Plans for the documentation of, as well as the introduction of a new segment to the VF Inc. Phenomenal Caribbean Women Symposium (PCWS), are said to be in the pipeline.

“I am also pleased to inform you, that plans are underway to have a publication for the stories for the 7th which will be in 2016, and not only will it be the stories of the speakers over the last 6 years for the 7th year, but what we have plans to do, and what we have started to do, where as we have the follow ups, in Dominica, this year we are going to have follow ups where the speakers come from,” said Chief Executive Officer for VF Inc., Dr. Valda Henry.

Dr. Henry, who was speaking at the launch of the 6th PCWS over the weekend, added, “At that follow up we are going to invite all the women, especially the older women to tell their stories, so that we can document the stories and that those stories will also appear in the publication that will come out for PCWS 2016.”

She was responding to a challenge from the Parliamentary Representative for Portsmouth Ian Douglas to have the five years of PCWS documented.

Douglas: "We must record, not only on video, but in print all the five years."
Douglas: “We must record, not only on video, but in print, all the five years.”

“I want to leave this challenge that we must ham out, the five years, and the years to come, in a thesis, we have to have a book, we cannot just allow this to just be an exercise for a day or two and then we go back to our own homes. We must record, not only on video, but in print all the five years, because I believe that, we’ve leant a lot and we have a lot to give to the rest of the world through this Phenomenal Women Symposium.”

He said the stories can also serve as inspiration to those who are trying to find their true self.

Douglas was addressing the official start of the 5th Phenomenal Caribbean Women Symposium at the Cabrits national park.

Meantime, delivering the sermonette, Fr. Herman Sharplis urged women to find their own inspiration in their lives.

“You have the power and influence to change people, no matter the challenges that we are going to go through, God is always make us successful. The power is also there for us to share in that power because we can use that power to do good and to do evil. We can use it to build people and we can use it to destroy people and we can use it to be a better world or we can use it to make a very sad world.”

He also urged them to use Queen Esther in the Bible as inspiration, “a woman, who ensured that her people, would be a saved people. And so women, you have a role to play in Dominica, in your family, wherever you are, remember like Esther use that power in you to save people, and so God will empower you, and God will give you that power to deliver what God has promised,” he said.

Over 300 women attended the symposium, which aims to inspire women to reach their full potential. It is being held under the theme: “What you conceive you can achieve, because god has the power to deliver what he promises.”

A day well spent. I think more young persons should register for the symposium next year. Come and hear stories of persons who have gone through so many struggles in their lives yet emerged as phenomenal women. The adversities, struggles, hurdles and obstacles they faced and overcame because of their great desire to succeed in life and improve the standards of living for themselves and their families. Congratulations to Dr. Valda Henry and her staff at VF Inc.

Congratulations to Dr. Valda Henry and her team for hosting the 5th Annual Phenomenal Women Symposium. This was my second year attending the symposium and I must say they have been very empowering and inspiring. I was particularly touched by Mrs. Neva Edwards presentation. Such a warm, humble and kind-hearted lady. As she said in her presentation women need to uplift each other and not be the reason for one another’s demise and downfall. Too often we are quick to bring down another sister by our constant gossip and attack on their lives. If you don’t know the facts please don’t add to the gossip!! I am definitely looking forward to next year’s symposium. Continue the good work Dr. Henry. You are indeed a PHENOMENAL WOMAN!!!

Thanks Dr. Henry, this was one of the best days in my life I took for myself. I really enjoyed all the speakers contributions and it really uplifted my inner spirit. The morning worship with Father Sharplis and his team just set the tone for a wonderful day, as God was placed first in this symposium. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and can’t wait for next year God willing. Continued success Dr. Henry.
