PM promises, after December elections, to fire any parliamentarian who underperforms

Skerrit addressing crowd at November 19 rally

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has issued a warning to his Dominica Labour Party (DLP) colleagues that complacency will not be tolerated this term should his party be reelected into government.

In this regard, the DLP leader vows, should anyone on his team take a lackadaisical approach in providing representation to their constituents, they will be immediately fired.

“We have work to do,” he said. “And this is why I am saying to my colleagues that we have to be better representatives to our people. We cannot ask people to vote for us and they not see us until general election, that cannot happen in this term ladies and gentlemen.”

Skerrit’s comments came at the DLP’s rally on November 19, 2022, at the Newtown Savannah following the party’s walk for “Peace, Progress, and Prosperity”.

“I am sending a message to them; they all here and I ain’t fraid them. I am saying to them that when you the people of Dominica go to the polls on December 6, to vote them, they must deliver for you the people of their constituencies.”

Skerrit is of the view that more groundwork is needed by DLP parliamentarians and assured his supporters such will be the case if the DLP is victorious in the upcoming election.

“I don’t want people to come and sit in office whole day. Go and meet the people where they live and where they work. That’s what you will get in this new term ladies and gentlemen, better representation, more accountable representation, and more transparent representation from your parlreps.”

“I am saying to them, anybody who mess around in this term, fired, fired,” he declared.

Skerrit averred that inadequate representation by DLP candidates is a thing of the past.

“I am dead serious,” Skerrit asserted. “Too many of you walk in and out, working and working and working, and then when you message the parlrep he not answering your WhatsApp or he tell you he coming but he not coming, he tell you wait for him and when you do he ain’t showing up, no way, not in 2023. That is of the past ladies and gentlemen.”

The DLP leader, who recently replaced ten of his candidates, told the new candidates who recently joined, to brace themselves for the hard work ahead.

“They say they young, so hard work on their back because the people of Dominica deserve proper representation, respectful representation, caring representation and compassionate representation.”

He opined that the electors should be respected by the MPs because, “we are not your masters, we are your servants. We are there to serve you the people of Dominica.”

According to the Prime Minister, many complaints by constituents have not fallen on deaf ears and as such he has ensured that proper representation is placed in all 21 constituencies.

“These ministers and parlreps they tell you ‘I busy’. You too busy to go in your constituency but when is to travel overseas for two weeks, you not busy, when is to go and party, you have time, so why can’t you make time for people who come in and out, rain or sun to vote for you on election day.”

The Vieille Case MP continued, “When Skerrit call election they coming by you, boy I didn’t see you long time but COVID, which COVID you telling me about? They have, and they will, and they must do better by the people of this country.”

He urged citizens to reelect his party at the December 6 election to afford him “the authority I need to have decent majority so I can deal with them when they form the fool.”

Skerrit, if you was to keep your word, you would fire your wife first and then yourself. I mean what exactly have you done in over 20 years that benefited ALL Dominicans? You divided the country and you lowered the moral compass of most citizens to a standard that is on par with that of yourself and that of your wife.

@Lawyer, although I do not completely agree with the manner of PM’s wording, to his Parliamentary representatives, I understand what he is saying, unlike yourself.

In order for him to accomplish anything in Dominica, he must have the elected members of Parliament doing their given jobs all throughout their stay at Parliament; to go to their given constituencies, to talk and plan with the people, to find out what ways are open for them to improve their community–that is the only way we can see the Prime Minister’s work in our country, for he is simply their guide.

For example, When I was employed, my job involved travelling all over Ontario to do our Employers Business.

It was always our supervisors and us at the office at 6:30 in the morning –including weekends.

We almost never saw our Employer because he was always at the Office, maybe at whatever time he got out from his bed Monday to Friday–not on the weekends.

Skerrit seem so sure of himself. This sychofan always say he want all 21 seats in parliament and he will achieve his aim by subverting the will of the people come what may… and you did not allow the constituencies to choose the candidates of their choice so what are you saying…

The double doctorate dude is making false promises again. What the hell has Melissa done for the physical improvement of the Roseau central constituency? She’s known for putting on glam in the city for which we don’t need a government minister as there are agencies capable of putting on the shows. Roseau central needs a representative with vision for it’s improvement to be a major central capital in the subregion. At the moment Roseau stinks, the sidewalks are uneven, the drains are uncovered and look horrible. She repeated the same promise Skerritt made years ago to upgrade the capital yet all we have are festivals and snipers and navy seals. Don’t wait until after the next election go ahead and fire the queen of glam as Roseau and extension Dominica deserves better.

Mr Prime Minister, while one can applaud your leadership of this great party in accomplishing all the good things that we as a nation are benefitting from and are truly grateful for, one cannot help but observe that you seem to be losing the plot and possibly your party. Openly criticising and goading your members so publicly is a sign that all isn’t well within the party. I think you have reached a point in your political life to take a backseat and allow someone more level headed, such as Vince Henderson or Doctor McIntyre to take over the reins. I have supported you and recognised you achievements over the years and your legacy cannot be erased from our history as the best and longest serving leader in the Caribbean, but I do believe you should do the right thing after the elections and allow someone else to take the lead.

Since this general elections campaign started, every word and action from Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit have been to show and tell Dominicans that after 20 years of his failure as Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, he should be fired!
I hope Dominicans are seeing and listening to the words and actions of the Prime Minister because his own words and actions say it all. This man has nothing more to offer Dominica, and let’s face it, except for lies and empty promises he has given Dominica nothing? Dominica is now last kakarat in the Caribbean thanks to the mismanagement by Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit!

Dominica is in dire traits for who, surely not the vast majority of Dominicans.Dictatorship is when a minority want to impose it’s will on the majority, like in the case of the opposition.Anytime any Minister turn his back on the people who elected him,we are going to Skerrit to FIRE HIM.I know a number of poto UWP whose houses were covered, whose medical bills were paid, who received $250,000,$300,000 and $400,000 houses and apartments, while DLP SUPPORTERS who put them in office have to beg. That BS must stop.If the Clown have to defend Minister’s of government on complaints brought to it by DLP supporters, just think of the complaints taken to Skerrit.FIRE THEM.A poto DLP supporter wanted blocks to HELP him build a house, they have the man walking up and down ministry, while they helping crooked UWP supporters are getting all the goodies.A number of them were voted into office because of Skerrit.

Lin Clown, yours is a very good contribution and explanation to what the Prime Minister has said to the coming Parliamentary representatives.

Fainnes to the people has to be the norm of parliamentarians’ work. The Prime Minister, as the head, has the right to dismiss (fire) those unfair representatives, who are earning wages for all the wrong reasons.

Honorable men and women live by one rule, the buck stops with the leader. When there are shortcomings the leader accepts it as his error but not this double doctorate dude. In less than two years after he reshuffled his cabinet and put a new team to govern the country he completely changed the composition of the slate. Now who’s failure is this if not Skerritt. He’s now threatening to ditch underperformers but as the saying goes when you point one finger three point back at you. After over twenty years of failure by the pied Piper he’s pointing his finger at others. It’s time for the architect of failure to exit the scene and allow for effective political leadership in Dominca.

“When there are shortcomings the leader accepts it as his error”

Jonathan, where did this concept of yours come from? What leader wants to simply accept the work of his employee as an error of his, when he has trained that employee to do that job?

Could that be the reason the meg minority of you people are claiming that the Prime Minister has done nothing for Dominica for the past 22 years. Well how foolish!

Must be that is the false accusation that he is tired of accepting, the reason he has reconstructed his Parliament, and has spoken to them firmly, about the works they are called to do as Parliamentary representatives.

The Prime Minister wants to show people like you, that he is not a failure to claim error.

He wants the good works done on behalf the people who chose Him as their Prime Leader, but he needs men and women of Parliament to work positively with him, not excusing their constant negative moves as mere errors in his part.

Prime Minister, Sir, I can perceive your need from your fellow Parliamentarians, and after all those years as Leader of your Party, and Prime Minister of Dominica, you know what you are talking about and asking for.

However, firm and fear leadership must go hand in hand with stern caution, to not provoke anger in the mind of those whom we lead–regardless of the organization.

Verbal communication must be well-set for its purpose, not to provoke retaliation from those whom we lead and work with.

Remember to allow our Lord God to guide your work as the Prime Leader of Dominica’s Government, so that your work will always be in the favor of the people who has chosen you and your governing body to serve them; and most of all for the glory of God.

@MEME, “He run things physically” but spiritually, by the guidance of the Master, Almighty God, who appointed by the voice of the People. He is their servant

At my workplace, a group of us used to go out to do our Employer’s work through the guidance of a “Supervisor”. The supervisor was trained to guide us, the workers, on the job site.

So he was the servant of our Employer, but he was the one “running our Employer’s Business.

We, the workers always left him at the jobsite, when the work was finished, to complete all the reports to give to our Employer.

And just as only our Employer can fire him, if we the workers are always complaining about his attitude and conduct on the job site, so it is with the PM Skerrit.

I am saying that only God Almighty can remove him from his seat as our Prime Leader, once again, by the voice of the majority of the people. NOT THE MINORITY. Until then, he is the ONE running things, chosen by the people

But if Dominica wishes to move forward, he will first need to change the culture by getting rid of these lazy employees. I have never seen anything like it! Not just the parl reps, but also the government workers in the ministry. It’s time to clean up the place. They don’t answer phones, they don’t reply to emails, and they have zero customer care skills. In 2022, these are must-have skills. Skerritt MUST start firing people if they want progress.
