PM Skerrit calls for removal of blockade against Cuba

PM Skerrit (2nd from right) socializing with the departing Cubans at Wednesday night’s function

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is calling on the United States (US) government to remove the unjust blockade against Cuba.

He was speaking during a ceremony held at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Over 60 Cuban construction brigades were recognized at that ceremony.

They have been on island for the past 14 months to assist in the country’s recovery efforts post Hurricane Maria.

The United States currently imposes a commercial, economic, and financial embargo against Cuba. The United States first imposed an embargo on the sale of arms to Cuba on March 14, 1958, during the Fulgencio Batista regime.

“I will always stand in defense of the sovereignty of the Republic of Cuba,” Skerrit said. “Cuba has a right to self-determination and we will continue to call on the United States government to remove this unjust blockade against the Cuban people and the great people of the Cuban Revolution.”

He continued, “I will do so as a matter of principle and as it is said we can always negotiate words, but we must never negotiate principle.”

Skerrit said Dominica’s commitment to Cuba and its people, its independence and its sovereignty is unquestionable.

“This is why we have always opposed sanctions on countries, because sanctions only bring hardship to the ordinary men and women of countries,” he stated. “But not withstanding the sanctions on the Cuban people, see what they have done to humanity, see the contributions they have made to the world.”

Furthermore, he said the Cubans who have been assisting Dominica for the past 14 months have been exceptional ambassadors of the Cuban Revolution and the Cuban government.

“You have touched the lives of many ordinary citizens in Dominica, who, without you, would have had a difficulty in getting a roof back over their heads in quick time,” Skerrit said.

Meantime, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Chandler Hyacinth said the Cubans have made their mark.

“You have made your mark, 185 homes rebuilt,” she said.”The 14 rooms at the Dominica State College (DSC) that they re-covered and the primary schools that they reconstructed, in particular the Colihaut Primary School and now the Salisbury Primary School and you also did some work at the Dublanc Pre-School.”

She thanked the Cuban team immensely for their contribution to the country’s resilience building efforts.

“In particular, we admire and we give praises to you for the quality of work that you have delivered, the dedication and commitment that you have shown towards the efforts. We have learnt from your commitment and dedication to task,” Hyacinth stated.

PM Skerrit minister of finance needs to remove his blockade of the investigation of all the missing Dominican peoples money, he needs to show the real books not cooked books and explain what he did with millions of US dollars of missing Dominica treasury money.

Instead of being concerned about Cuba yours truly the PM needs to explain to the Dominican people what he did with all the missing money from the treasury especially the missing millions from his CBI fraud program. Millions of US dollars is missing, where de money go? His bogus concern with Cuba is a distraction from the missing Dominican peoples money.

“PM Skerrit calls for removal of blockade against Cuba” Skerrit is a big Joker.
Skerrit, go clean up your back yard first in your country before you focus on others who are well taken care of. Skerrit, We have in Dominica, going on now for over 19 years a Blockade of good governance, poor government, an obvious, well known, corrupted failed immature government and immature Prime (Odd Minister)/ That is where our focus is and after 19 years failed Skerrit, we have had enough and we need yo to go, go away, get lost, Get going and take your failed 19 ministers with you. These failed ministers have really crippled our Dominica, they are scared of Skerrit. Too much bobol, corruption, devious behaviours on going in our nature island. The Bin and Fertilizer Bobol, the abusive nature reducing our poor parents and families to one of begging and assemble at Financial Centre with hands our for cash. Very insulting, abusive and insulting on our parents que up at the Financial-Centre for cash…

Pm Skerrit, is entitled to his opinion and i agreed with him the British has been saying the same thing for over 15 years now this is ridiculous what uncle Sam is going on with in 2019. Waiting to hear what those so-called workers nut crackers have to say with their usual silly comments.

Man bite Dog, please tell us what is the definition of a blockade, and how does it works!
Man bite Dog, no intelligent person in Europe; or England; Britain or any place on the planet would spend fifteen (15) years calling for the removal of a blockade which does not exist!

That is in the mind of Roosevelt Skerrit: An an ignorant man farting garbage and lies from his mouth to impress his illiterate supports.

Cuba is doing fine, Americans and  Canadians are investing in Cuba; and Joe Linton don’t ask me to “tell us” which Canadian company doing business in Cuba, you will not like the result.

Roosevelt is farting from his mouth talking about Cuba, which is much better
      off than Dominica.

At least communism still exist in Cuba, but the Cubans are not allowing their country to be sold to criminals, vagabonds thieves and scamps.

They do not sell their communist passports to anyone; their economy is not based on the sale of passports!

Dominican parents find it difficult if not struggle to express love and appreciation to their children on every front as a measure of good parenting.
Nevertheless, they will openly call the radio programme or even go to political rallies where they express their love to their party.
I say Dominican don’t love the leaders instead love what they can get out of those persons. very hypocritical and this is why as a Dominican I find it difficult to trust one of my very own.

Mr.P.M.you are satisfied that you have improved the lives of the Dominican people, that’s why you are asking for an other term.So if the dictator have done the same with the Cuban people. Why don’t you call for removal of blockade against the Cubans, placed there by your friend Castro? If the Castro brothers have done so much good and the Cubans are satisfied with their performance. Please give them the liberty to vote you in as their president.

Mr. Skerrit, what are you doing with our CBI money? You pretend as though it was only CBI that helped Dominica recover after Hurricane Maria. All of us know that our people in the diaspora, regional governments and international aid agencies also played a pivotal role in our recovery. You are not mentioning them.
Yes, CBI contributed greatly, but there is a significant amount of CBI funds that was not used for post Erica/ Maria recovery that you, as Minister of Finance have not accounted for. It is either you account for our money or you resign. Your choice.

I totally agree that the blockage should be removed from Cuba but Cuba should come in an agreement with the USA so that new policies can be put into place. As a Cuban living now outside of Cuba, it makes me happy to see other countries petitioning for new policies be put in place, it means a lot. Thank you and as a Cuban and more importantly as a Christian there is nothing greater than serving others and that’s what God call us to do. I would like to say on behalf of all Cubans that you’re welcome for us working hard to recover your country from such catastrophe and thank you for giving us the opportunity to come over.

Cuba uses the foreign policy to gain support, being not genuine but business. All services are paid, nothing is for free. The main industry are the doctors that have to give the 75% of their salary to the dictator. Those who talk like that never experienced what is like living misserable with fear in a totalitarian regime. A regime that destroyed not only the infrastructure, but the culture, the private property, the rights of their population, causing massive immigration, separating families, causing pain and all for what? The education is a dissaster the health too, you don’t watch videos of YouTube please we are in the time of Internet, probably you should learn Spanish and study more before repeating what the Cuban government I’d telling you. They make a controlled visit for you, obviously to their specific places, while the country is falling appart.

    May I recall that there is no blockade against Cuba ;
There is only an embargo with the US ; and that is completely different.
Cuba can freely trade with any other country in the world.
But a dictatorship cannot expect to be able to trade with democracies without being sanctionned sometimes.

PM, here is a portion of scripture you and those around you should focus on because when I read this passage I you, my PM: 12 Then a letter came to him from the prophet Elijah. It read, “This is what the Lord God of your ancestor David says: You haven’t followed the ways of your father Jehoshaphat or the ways of King Asa of Judah. 13 Instead, you have followed the ways of the kings of Israel. You, like Ahab’s family, have caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to chase after foreign gods as if they were prostitutes. You have killed your brothers, your father’s family. Your brothers were better than you. 14 The Lord will strike a great blow to your people, your sons, your wives, and all your property because you did this. 15 You will suffer from a chronic intestinal disease until your intestines come out.” 2 chronicles 21:12-15.

You know what this evil, coward man is really turning me off and I believe with all my heart that had the US allowed to help Dominica during Erika and Maria less people would have died and Dominica would be far better off as far as our present and future are concerned. Whenever I hear this Roosevelt Skerrit on any given subject the first thing that comes to mind is this passage of scripture in Genesis 3:1. Let’s read it from three different translations:

    1. “The snake was sneakier than any of the other wild animals that the Lord God had made” Contemporary English Version

    2. “The snake was the most clever of all the wild animals that the Lord God had made.” Easy to Read Version

    3. “Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the Lord God had made.” Christian Standard Bible

After Maria when Skerrit went to the UN you remember what were his first words? Well here are his first words there: “The garden of Eden is destroyed”. PM you know why the garden of Eden was destroyed? Well is because of the scripture above when Satan entered the garden.

I hope that same serpent that caused Erika and Maria did not destroy Dominica

    • Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque
      September 6, 2019

Here is the King James version:
Genesis 3:1 “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.

And he said unto the Woman. Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Roosevelt comprehension of the English language is so poor it’s pitiful.

Just prior to Obama leaving office, that clown got on a podium in Cuba and screamed like rat “Obama must move embargo on Cuba .”

Now that was part of Obama’s agenda, while the Roosevelt was running his mouth; Obama had already conditionally lift the embargo.

The clown went to Dominica, and said “Obama should lift the embargo before he demit office!”

Now the word “demit” simple means to withdraw, or remove one self from a list of contenders vying for a position, or  resigning a position.

Interestingly Obama was in his last term in office with less than one year to go!

      That’s not how one demit.

If PM was serious about his call to the US to remove the unjust blockade against Cuba he would go to the UN . When he wanted the world to hear him after Maria, he went to the UN. When Venezuela wanted the world to know they cancelled our debt of over $ USD One hundred Million dollars, they went to the UN. So why you want to hide behind Windsor Park? Sacwe pocweet!
That call was nothing more than a diversion tactic. As a country we are involved in three major category 6 controversies dealing with and all three are pointing fingers at the office of the Finance Minister, especially the Minister himself. So to keep people in the dark about what is happening, PM spoke his usual nonsense. But Dominicans would much rather hear PM address these 3 category 6 storms:
    1. Where is our $1.2 billion dollars that missing?
    2. Why did Dominica sell a passport to Brenda Smith, who was jailed in NJ last weekend?
    3. Why is Paola Zampolli asking 5% or over US 20 million from sale of our passports?

Of course Cuba has a right to self determination and nobody is denying that, not even the U.S. mr. Skerrit. But it is a hypocritical for you to deny the same for the people of the Western Sahara, which is supporter by Cuba. The same applies to Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) and Kosovo, who’s claims you have not been supporting in the U.N. either. On the question of the U.S. trade embargo I agree this should be lifted but in return I would like to see a true democracy in the country instead of a one-party state, where people have no choice.

Roosevelt will always, and forever be the joke of the universe; the disgusting thing about this man is he makes us all look ignorant like him!
The government of the U.S has not imposed a blockage on Cuba, or any island in the Caribbean since 1962, there is no blockage on Cuba!
In 1962 the late President John F. Kennedy imposed a U.S. Naval blockage of Cuba after U.S. spy aircraft’s found the former Soviet Union missile sites on the communist ruled island of Cuba.
In a televised speech , Kennedy said “the medium-ranged nuclear weapons arrayed at nearly complete bases were capable of striking major American cities including Washington.”
Roosevelt don’t know the difference of an embargo from a blockage!
An embargo is an official ban on trade or other commercial activity with a particular country!

Quite often, on matters relating to Cuba, Dominica stands alone.
Whatever your political shade, we must always be brave and courageous on calling out injustice, wickedness and subjugation where ever and unto whom ever it befalls.
You may not like the PM or what he and his party stand for, but on the subject of Cuba, he’s been consistently right.
If you disagree, then please provide the justification and rationale for a country being punished in such away simply because they wish to govern themselves how they see fit.

This policy of USA government is based on USA ideology and the Monroe Doctrine. Before Obama there was strict embargo to the extent that gunboats patrolled the waters around Cuba for enforcement. There was even an attempted invasion of Cuba (Bay of Pigs).
Trumped has reversed all initiatives that Obama put in place to normalize relations with Cuba.
Skerrit position is not a one person opinion. It is a international position based on national sovereign rights as outlined in the UN Charter.
The USA has veto powers in the Security Council of the UN to promote its rogue regime attributes to protect its interests. This interest is the pursuit of wealth by corporate lobby entities under the guise of democratic policies.
Recently they wanted Venezuela oil wealth, now the are trying to purchase Greenland for its resources, like they did for Alaska, Louisiana and Texas.
Skerrit’s policy is articulated in the international arena. It is not a Skerrit thing.

In reference to Venezuela’s oil wealth being targeted by US interest, one must pay attention to the situation in Trinidad. Texaco controls 85% of Trinidad’s oil wealth and 100% of profit is repatriated back to the USA ; and Trinidad cannot do anything about it.

One more thing….what is USA doing in Afghanistan for almost 19 years ? Its profitable to make war.
Why not have strict gun control laws ? Control would reduce the money to be made. Its profitable to make war on your own people.
Is money making gun rights more important the right to life .
The same greed for money is the stimulus driving the uwp activist to demonstrations on a fake issue to gain political points.
