PM Skerrit sees 2021 as an exciting year for Dominica

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit

With a number of projects in the pipeline, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit envisages the new year as an exciting one for Dominica

“2021 is going to be a very exciting year for Dominica,” the prime minister said Wednesday, during a live interview on DBS Radio. “You know, in every disappointment there is a blessing and we have to ensure that we take advantage of the blessing and going into 2021, there are many important projects and programmes that our country can look forward to.”

He identified the international airport as the major infrastructural project and said his government will be pressing on very heavily in 2021 with its construction.

“We have finalized negotiations for the lands, we have started to clear the sites for the construction of the residencies for those persons being affected by the airport construction,” Skerrit stated.

The Prime Minister said that he has given the go ahead to the developer to commence construction this month.

“God’s willing, by the end of February we would have been in the position to provide compensation for everybody whose property would have been acquired by the government for the construction of the airport,” he noted. “We continue to make payments on a phased basis, but hoping that by the end of February, we will be in a position to compensate everybody for their properties we require,” he remarked.

He said this will be a major investment for Dominica to create opportunities for employment for a number of people.

The prime minister also indicated that there are a number of housing projects in different communities across the country.

“Housing continues to be a major need in our country and we have given a commitment to build 5000 climate resilient homes and that’s what we are doing,” Skerrit said.

Thank you DNO for the clarification . I will admit that I usually take you to task. It’s not because I want to be hyper-critical but for my own selfish reasons, I expect a superlative standard of journalism from you. I want you to stand out like the shining light on the top of the hill.

The standard of journalism in Dominica leaves much to be desired. There is NO investigative journalism and the regular news media ate regrettably tainted by political bias.

The hostile political environment makes your job onerous but nothing good comes easily.

    Maximum Respect for replying.

    @Me

Thank you for pointing out the error but I knew it. I’m not infallible and everyone errs occasionally. You have been now declared the self appointed grammar guru. Cheers!

So now you are admitting that you are infallible regarding grammatical errors. What about others who have made grammatical errors, and you attacked them with insults, didn’t you realize that they may not be perfect. It is ok to be forgiven saying you are infallible making grammatical errors, but the opinions you express no. One of your most recent post you challenged DNO of being impartial of which you were brought to task for by DNO, you should be the last person to talk about impartiality, that is why I have always called you a joker, stop your flip f looping.

   Skerro, you have not yet COMPLETED the construction of the homes for the residents displaced with the attendant needs: roads, water, electricity, telephone, internet, etc but you have given the go-ahead to the developer to commence construction THIS MONTH!!
There are other concerns in the statement, but I wish to highlight this one for now.
Are the houses for the displaced residents going to be completed before or by the airport construction commencement date? If not where will those displaced residents live, and at whose expense?
This is a new year and you still have not ACCOUNTED for the 2.8 BILLION DOLLARS MISSING FROM THE CBI MONEY  :-x .
    HOTEP!

you can talk all the crap you want but you not touching my house and 2 piece’s of land until you pay the real price for them. you not taking my house and give me money that cannot give me back my house. If you skerrit want to take my house you will build me a house the same size upstairs and down stairs then replace my land and give me the keys to the house in a good location where I can get the view of the sea just like what I have. the money you offer for my property cannot replace what I have. I do not want any trouble when I come to Dominica I do not want your peanuts money. I cannot believe my ears what I am hearing from this crazy man.I want skerrit to replace my house and land. Then he will no what the cost to replace them is.I have what I have already I am not going through no harassment to build over house myself. what is wrong with Wesley people? Letting skerrit come take more land in Wesley give to Chinese? what’s wrong with the land that was already purchased? nonsense…

    Dear Mr Skerrit,
I applaud you on being able to build a new International Airport in Dominica in 2021.
However, I wonder if that is a feasible idea?
I am not as wise as you are Sir, but I for see the following problems with this venture:
(1)Dominica does not have the volume of business to justify this project.
(2)How are we going to pay for it? If for example the Chinese are funding it, and we cannot repay the loan, then they will take some of Dominica as part payment. This is the new Colonial policy adopted by China in Africa!
(3)COVID 19 will affect Air Travel for the next 2-3 years, limiting travel.
(4)Dominica has many other debts and more pressing issues, where we need to spend money. For example- paying civil servants, making Dominica self sufficient in Food, Building up viable export industries so that we can employ Dominicans. Rebuilding houses after Hurricane Maria 2019.
Sir, I know that you are very capable, but please think carefully.
We are all in your capable…

My dear Dominicans, Blessed 🙏🏽 Day 😇.
Please ignore, abandone Skerrit, his blind supporters and his failed highly Incompetent Labour Party Government of his. Skerrit has also failed our people of Dominica and all of Dominica.
We in DOMINICA desperately need mature, competent, trusted, competent, visionary leadership and commited ministers, loyal civil servants who are well versed in their respective roles and responsibilities.
Skerrit and his blind inmature Labour government and too many blind Ministers, Failed Loyalists who hang on to him as this empty inmature pappyshow and Clown.
There is absolutely no development taking place in our Dominica and our people where this failed fake incompetent Questionable inmature Skerrit and his failed incompetent Labour government who are blind to the poverty, unemployment, where families, farmers and our Youth are victims of this failed incompetent Skerrit who has failed our people and our country and stained our Government. Skerrit OUT!

Presumably DLP parl reps don’t feed back to the pm the reality on the ground: abject poverty, not enough food to eat, lack of basics – bedsheets, hygiene, clothing, food – kids going to school because thats the only place they get a meal, only to find out their teacher has decided to go shopping in town, victimisation, lack of opportinity, no markets for farmers, imported labour taking jobs …. If he did no about this, would he still feel excited about spending all that money on an airport, on luxury home rental, on bribes ? This pm is either completely out of touch or he simply doesnt care.

Judge a man by his actions not by his flattering words. This unscrupulous stuttering demagogue has been making false promises for the last twenty (20) years. Think about geothermal energy, electoral reforms, international airport, salary raise for civil servants, enhancement of Roseau,. But, alas! All the people have gotten in recent times are a cheap salty ham and a foreign turkey. A Colossal Insult!!!

To safeguard yourselves from disappointment, shock and emotional pain believe what Skerrit does NOT what he says. The man is a notorious, barefaced, compulsive LIAR Trump’s twin buddy.

Skerrit is a joke and should have never been in this Odd Prime Minister position. Prouncing that Dominica will be “Whatever” in 2021. You and your failed incompetent Questionable Labour government has ruined our economy agriculture culture employment in the past 20yrs. Therefore Skerrit, you have failed our economy, agriculture and rural areas over these years. You have been in our Government wasted our economy, our Development and our resources.
It appears that you may have no understanding of Socioeconomic development, crucial to the development our ailing Dominica and it’s people.
It appears that you have no motion nor vision for the Development of our people, ignored the poverty of our urban and rural areas but you rather create the so-called “Red Clinic”, there you engaged our suffering people thru begging at your “Red Clinic” because you lack leadership, foresight and engaged in pappyshow politics meaning that you have no foresight nor interest in socioeconomic…

Over 20yrs this man so called failed Skerrit has done nothing of substance to elevate our people into permanent jobs and raise the profile of our Nature Isle.
This corrupted deceitfulness Red Bobolistic Clinic deceptiveness must be stopped. Be advised my people, there is no meaningful development taking place in our Dominica over 20 failed years.
Skerrit has mischievously killed our Agriculture and economy and then blindly and deliberately coerced this corrupted Red Clinic Deceptive hangout of our States funds where he managed for fame and votes dismissed the Welfare Division that with its highly trained professional trustworthy reliable Social and Welfare Officers designated to undertake the work of conducting and addressing those in need that they and their children are assessed for Welfare Assistance that our families & children receives the needed financial services. Skerrit therefore has abused our people’s finances that he created Red Devious Clinic for fame and loyalty…

DNO I fully appreciate that the work of a journalist and the news media is particularly difficult in Dominica. Getting information from government entities is like pulling teeth. However, I wish to challenge you on your claim of impartiality.

Almost everything Mr. Skerrit says or does you publish it without as much as a question.. Many of the things are quite inconsequential. At the same time, the parliamentary opposition leader, for the most time, is blatantly ignored.

Mr. Lennox Linton , for the umpteenth time, was dragged before the court this week in connection with the BOLDFACED LIE about the attempted coup fabricated by the corrupt PM and his army of bodyguards (police). The case against him was yet again postponed until July. No other Dominican has been persecuted like this man. The persecution (not prosecution-willfully so) team, once again, asked for a postponement. Not a mention by your news outlet nor any of the other cowardly reporters.

    See the BIAS?

ADMIN: We were not aware of this specific court appearance ,and in retrospect, nor did we have a reporter available at the time to cover it. However, your point here is noted, we have already begun and will continue to seek to increase our court coverage.

We actually do not claim to be impartial or unbiased. We make an even bolder claim – to be partial to the truth over any other side.

In practice, we are also partial to releases (once they meet basic standards such as no rumour mongering, no libel etc)

The Freedom party ,for example, has taken advantage of this and has a regular free column with us.

The government by the reality of being the government generates the most news and has the most public releases of any organization. We don’t assign arbitrary quotas to the number of articles we publish from them or any one source.

Our platform remains open to everyone.

PM Skerrit can pretend as much as he wants; he can lie as much as he wants; he can say it’s a bright sunny day when he knows dark clouds are hanging over him and he can say the hurricane is going to pass over us and no need to prepare, like he did during Maria. But folks, people of Dominica PM knows what dark clouds, what heavy load that awaits him in the US, and he knows the doctorate he is about to receive in the US is not anything to be excited about. At this time PM should be real with Dominicans and, instead of lying to them he should prepare them for the very heavy cross he has to carry. It’s not going to be easy for PM and therefore I calling on all Dominicans to prepare for what’s coming. According to the song “Not an easy road…” PM the extra ham and turkey you gave to your supporters for Christmas will NOT save you from an unpleasant trip to the US sometime before June 30, 2021

Anyone of you who sill believes this compulsive, pathological congenital, serial LIAR I have a palace and five (5) acres of land on the sun to sell you at a discounted price of just $150.00.

The future and economic predictions are bleak for many thousands of Dominicans but ruby red rosy for the figurehead Doctor and his functionally unlettered wife.

Look at this. The Skerrits live in a $64 000 monthly fortress paid for by taxpayers. Roosevelt pockets $12 000 monthly as PM, Melissa takes home a cool $8 000 as a Minister of government. These two are further blessed with allowances and perks. Monthly, they easily deposit approximately $90 000 in the bank, yearly it amounts to one million and eighty thousand dollars ($1 080 000).

This is an outrageous and ridiculous abuse of the country’s financial resources. Meanwhile the minimum wage is stagnated for decades at $4.05.

This is MORALLY REPREHENSIBLE. By the way, NOTHING goes to charity. Avaricious, unconscionable parasites!
