Police confirmed today that a male suspect has been arrested at his residence in a northeast community early this morning in connection with the shooting that occurred at the home of calypsonian Narrin “Trendsetter” Murphy on January 19, 2025.
The police have been actively investigating the shooting, which has raised concerns within the community and among Murphy’s supporters. According to reports from the police and Murphy himself, the incident occurred around 2:30 am on Sunday when multiple shots were fired at Murphy’s vehicle, which was parked outside his home at Jimmit. Fortunately, Murphy was not in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Narrin Murphy, known for his witty calypsos, expressed his determination not to be intimidated by the violence. In a public statement following the shooting, Murphy emphasized his commitment to his craft and his belief in the power of positivity and resilience.
“I am not intimidated,” he said, reinforcing his resolve to continue his work despite the unsettling event.
Police officials have not released the identity of the suspect or details regarding potential charges, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. However, they have urged anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward and assist in the inquiry.
The President of the Dominica Calypso Association (DCA), Davidson “Observer” Victor, in a statement following the incident, stressed the importance of unity in the face of violence, and urged all Dominicans to come together to demonstrate their collective disapproval of such actions.
Here we go again! The police will not release a name but someone was arrested. What kind of BS is that? We are now left to assume that the person is a minor and is not a rider on Dee Pee Pee truck as many of us thought although I doubt that.
If its De Pee Pee trucker rider we suspect, I am calling for a lengthy sentence if convicted because he tired get away with high crime. He like teflon, nothing can stick on him. From the AM to the PM scared of a little man that like to play mahjor. I hope the judiciary does not meddle in the case simply because its alleged the suspect is currently the main rider from country to town on De Pee Pee Truck.

People like Francisco-DOGG is misleading the public through DNO.Statutes of limitation is NOT for persons charged.
But what song he sing nuh!!!
I am trying to understand DNO reporting according to law a person cannot be arrested before he is charged. That person must be told about the offence he is being arrested for.So the person must be charged, arrested and cautioned.A person can be detained for questioning, not arrested. If the person is arrested in the Murphy case,it mean the person is charged with malicious damage, discharging a firearm amoung others.A suspect cannot be arrested,a suspect can be detained, that is the law.You Mr.DNO I am arresting you for wounding the media whore you have a right to remain silent, anything you say may be given in evidence, you have a right to call a lawyer.A person can be detained as a suspect in a matter for 72 hours if not Charged that person must be released. In law there is a difference between arrested and detained.
KUDOS to the police department for this timely apprehension. The state should make a statement by sentencing this individual if found guilty to a very long prison sentence. A lengthy sentence will send a signal to other would be criminals that we will not put up with this type of behavior. Anything short of several years behind bars will not act as a deterrent. It is time to seriously address the growing problem of illegal guns on island. Failure to do so will only lead to more gun violence in Dominica.
