Police investigating shooting incidents on Christmas Day.

The police are carrying out investigations into a shooting incident which, according to a statement from Police PRO, John Carbon, occurred about 4:35 am on December 25, 2012 in the vicinity of The Cove at Canefield.

He says in the release that  Albert Stevens and Arthur Bozel of Goodwill and Carlos Nicholas of Grand Bay are nursing gunshot wounds as a result of the shooting.  Stevens sustained wounds to his bottom and stomach, Bozel sustained wounds to his bottom and groin and Nicholas sustained a wound to his lower back.

All three injured men are said to be in stable condition.

Meanwhile the police are also investigating another shooting incident which occurred in Portsmouth on Christmas Day. Julien Thomas Bedminister of Zicack Portsmouth is a patient at the Princess Margaret Hospital nursing a gunshot wound he sustained to his left side of his face. According to Police PRO Carbon, “it was reported that Julien was shot while on Rodney Street in Portsmouth at about 7:45 pm on December 25, 2012”.

admin how comes i did not see a report on the accident that happened on christmas day in the area of morancie between pichline and bellevue where a young girl went down a 5oo feet precipice in a car she was driving and is serriously injured,is this not news and why dont you have a south reporter/corresponder since everyone in the south knows that.Again we from the south is calling on the government to install guard rails all along that section of this dangerous morancie road, lets not wait for another accident to happen may be to someone within the government circle for swift action to be taken,we know how it works in dominica lets change this in the new year.

Dominica has been nicknamed the “Nature Gunshooting Isle of the Caribbean” for its unspoiled natural beauty. It is the youngest island in the Lesser Antilles, still being formed by geothermal-volcanic activity, as evidenced by the world’s second-largest hot spring, Boiling Lake. The island features lush mountainous, illegal guns, rainforests, home of many rare plant, animal, and bird species. There are xeric areas in some of the western coastal regions, but heavy rainfall can be expected inland. The Sisserou Parrot (also known as the Imperial Amazon), the island’s national bird, is featured on the national flag. Dominica’s economy is heavily dependent on tourism, agriculture and heavy taxation. 8-O  8) :-P

Do you require a license to keep a jam in Dominica? How much is it? If not then the government is not ready.

  18. Free Thinker
    December 27, 2012

There is pure lawlessness! I wonder whether or not these guns are licensed? I am very concerned as to where we are headed as a nation. Some folks may want to downplay these incidences but when they reach home it will be a different cry.

  19. waw
    December 27, 2012

stop Gully and Underground from having jam without police as security. If Policemen were @ the door searching people coming inside the building all this would have been prevented. Many others could have gotten injured.Thank God nobody died @ that jam.

      December 27, 2012

Weather or not police was at the door searching people the incident could have still taken place because it happened outside of the compound. If you read the article properly it said in the vicinity of the cove not in it.

        December 28, 2012

You mean those people did not spend anytime inside the Cove before the shooting? Come on man, be realistic.

On the day when you should be home with family you out either shooting people or getting shot. What happen to going to church around Xmas time?

  26. Malgraysa
    December 27, 2012

On Christmas morne?? May God help us. Did the organisers of this event have a permit? Why did the police not shut down the place after the shootings? Sounds to me that today in Dominica people do what they want, when they want with impunity, disregard for the law and frustrate the judicial process when the authoprities do catch up with them. I guess money DOES talk and life is cheap!

All our institutions have failed us. The police is the worse of these institutions. Many of them are drunkards, they drink in public, they curse, make move on underage children, etc. They don’t care. The church has failed us, trading their roles for money, the home has totally abdicated its role again for money.Leaders in government are the worse among the group. The other issues of society are damned.Their concern is their pockets, It’s a society gone mad, so gun crimes and many other crimes will proliferate.

Dominica is a hypocritical society. So long we have been speaking about selling alcohol to minors. Everytime there is a shooting then the topic arises. There are things which need to be done and there needs to be law to ensure that this takes place. Young dudes walk into shops, buy a bottle of rum, then stand on the street corners to consume it in plain sight. The police sees it and do nothing because Dominica is a free society where people like to freeup with no worries and no one to bother them. While we cannot stop violence, we sure can reduce it but first there needs to be laws in place.

What kind of society allows minors to drink alcohol on any street corners they wish to. It is the same as lawless drivers doing what they want on the streets without repercussions.

There needs to be laws laws laws in place, in the absence of laws, the violence will continue. People get high and they react instantly without thinking. These guys were shot to maim.It makes no sense to talk about investigating, it makes better sense to put laws in place to prevent further violence. It is simple, all the police commisioner needs to do right now, is instruct his officers to start walking around town looking for adults and minors consuming alcohol on the bayfront and other street corners. fellas will think twice as to having these open bottles. All the energy is focus on looking for fellas smoking weed. Marijuana is a depressant, while alcohol is a stimulant.

Utter lawlessness. Never thought i would see the day when we will have shooting in Dominica like America.
Eugenia Charles may not have put all that infrastructure like skerrit but at least we had a safer more loving society. :-P

  34. ??????????????
    December 27, 2012

This is really sad, but it reminds ME of the politically backward society that we live in. I can clearly remember when the learned doctor from UWI told us that crime in Dominica was on the increase he waS villified, demonised, criticised,
insulted, vituperated,by many including the politically blind. Now the shootings are increasing exponentially and no one cares.. SHAME ON US
It’s a country with ‘NO Law NO Constitution’ and it’s the feature of a failed society.
It brings me to the point of the gunman destined for Dominica, with a gun and 59 rounds of ammunition and up to this moment, people in position of authority, are trying to sweep this serious concern under the carpet. SHAME ON US.
WHEN THE HEAD IS SICK THE ENTIRE BODY IS SICK ALSO!
