The police are investigating a disturbing early morning incident involving local calypsonian Narrin Trendsetter Murphy, whose vehicle was targeted in a shooting at his residence at Jimmit. The attack occurred around 2:30 am on Sunday when multiple shots were fired at the vehicle, which was parked outside his home.
Fortunately, Murphy was not in or near the vehicle at the time of the incident, having safely remained inside his dwelling. The Mahaut Police and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have launched a thorough investigation into the unlawful act and are actively seeking public assistance.
In a statement, the police emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging anyone with information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the perpetrator(s) to come forward.
Witnesses or anyone who may have heard or seen anything suspicious in the area during the early hours of the morning are encouraged to contact the Mahaut Police Station or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1800-8477.
Meanwhile, Murphy who’s also an employee of the National Bank of Dominica, in a Facebook post on Sunday, made it clear that he will not be intimidated by the attack, which he described as a cowardly act that only served to strengthen his resolve.
“The Lord is my shepherd, I will fear no evil,” Murphy declared, quoting scripture in his passionate statement. “No weapon formed, or fashioned can stand against me. You who took that cowardly act to trespass on my property to try to intimidate me, you did not succeed.”
Murphy recounted the traumatic experience, noting that nine bullets had struck his car, an act he believes was aimed at instilling fear. However, he emphasized that the attempt to undermine his spirit had the opposite effect.
“You have just made me stronger and more resolute,” he stated, addressing his assailants directly. “If that was your objective, you have failed.”
The calypsonian, who, only a few days ago, released his first calypso for the 2025 carnival season, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support he received in the aftermath of the incident, thanking friends and fans for their calls and messages.
“It is unfortunate, the state we have to be at, at this time,” he lamented, acknowledging the pain and anxiety the attack has caused his loved ones.
“I am not afraid to die, ladies and gentlemen. I have done nothing to hurt or harm anyone,” he asserted. “I have simply tried to assist where I have to assist and be a sense of reason where I have to.”
Underscoring his belief in justice, Murphy had a message of caution for the perpetrators of this criminal act.
“Whoever is involved in this, it will eventually catch up with you,” he warned, “Yes, you. It will catch up with you.”
Murphy’s message will undoubtedly resonate with calypso fans, inspiring them with his display of strength and resilience in the face of adversity, as they eagerly anticipate his presence on the calypso stage this carnival season.
There are just too many illegal guns and ammunition in the hands of criminals on the street.
There should be a tactical unit in the police force to deal solely with doing the surveillance and gathering evidence as to the persons responsible for the trafficking of these deadly arms into the country. The borders are much too porous.
Law enforcement needs more personnel, more resources, better training, A strategic and visionary plan to curtail or eliminate the kind of fire power on the streets. The CDPF should be staffed with our best and brightest. Promotions should be based on merit not political alignment with the administration of the day.
Happy that Trendsetter survived this most frightening ordeal. May the would-be assassin(s) be caught and carded off to jail.
I agree with Brian Paul if my memory serves me right Brian Paul is a former police officer. If Murphy was targeted for singing the song Dee pee pee why is the media whore constantly playing the song for the public?By doing so the media whore is putting Mr Murphy up for more gunshots and puting the life of Murphy in danger. It is like somebody beating you up and have another person teasing you about it.
all u want to kill a man for a song.. but we know…………
DNO and the media whore want people to believe it is because of a song Murphy was attacked.A few days ago Murphy was on Facebook saying he was instrumental in raising thousands of dollars for the medical treatment of the burnt victim in Pointe Michel.Murphy went on to say the money went into an account and the owner on the account was not giving an accurate account as to how that money was spent.Murphy went on to say he wanted an investigation as to how that money was spent and he would get to the bottom of it.DNO and the media whore should let the police investigate.Dice is always singing against the government. For years.he has never been attacked.Listen to Murphy on Facebook in connection with the burnt victim.
