Police recruits reminded their duty is to the State and its citizens

28 police recruits graduated from the training programme

Chief Police Training Instructor, Inspector Anthony Lawrence, has called on police recruits to never fail to do their duties and to remember that their duty is to the State and its citizens.

“Your primary duty is to the state and its citizens. The level of discipline you exhibited on this course must be maintained throughout all your endeavours,” Anthony told the graduands at the graduation ceremony of the 34th Police Recruits Course at Windsor Park Sports Stadium on Wednesday.

He told the recruits that they are now joining the service at a time when much more is demanded from the police and when the police service itself is under greater scrutiny from the public.

“You will face numerous challenges and will be called upon to make tough decisions as police officers. You may be prosecuted for doing your duty or the subject of disciplinary proceeding for the manner in which you perform that duty but never fail to do your duty to God and country,” he advised.

Lawrence urged them to never compromise their ethics for what the public may see as excusable but be true to the oath of office which they took to execute their function without favour or affection, malice or ill will.

He urged them, in performance of their duties, to always respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons regardless of their background.

“Recognise the need to improve your knowledge and skill, read, research and ask questions and above all make the Lord Jesus Christ the centre of your life. It is your faith that will sustain you when the challenges seem overbearing,” he said.

28 male officers graduated from the training school.

Best Recruit award went to PC Delroy Jno Charles who also received the awards for Best at Drills and Best at Self Defence. 1st runner up went to PC Calian Scotland.

The other awards were as follows:

Best at Physical Training – PC Romeo Hypolite

Best Shot – PC Timothy Warrington

Best at Weapon Training – PC Aaron Hypolite

Best Turned Out – PC Sachin Titre

Commissioner Shield for Most Disciplined Student – PC Marvin Augustine.

Baton of Honour – PC Delroy Jno Charles.

I get the feeling that they are trying to seperate the state and the citizens. These are one and the same. The state belongs to the citizens and if you think the state is the government then their boss is the citizens. We have a government system where the citizens are incharge and not the other way. I see a technical message being sent here. Our parliamentary system defined that, though it seems these days we are an autocracy disguised under sheep clothing

Okay, so if you believe that the State is the citizen, not the Government, why are you all complaining about Church should be separated from the State?

Isn’t the Church the citizens as well?

Because they are two seperate institutions with different objectives. Sometimes the methods used to get to the objectives are the same and that is what causes confusion when the two are mixed. Religious values are not necessarily civic values, hence the reason for marriage and civil union conflict. They are both the same animals that must be kept apart. Politics is mass manipulation and so to is religion. Together they are potentially very toxic in there deception. Ultimately it is the objective that is important why they should be separated. Hope you understand.

Their duty is to Skerrit, Savarin and the rest first. what they say goes, regardles of the law which they swear to uphold. Papa Skerrit is bigger than the law, so they will follow his commands first, why? because they dont know any better. the average policeman doesnt even know what is in the constitution. He doesnt even kow his own rights according to the law.

This police force , with Daniel Carbon Dioxide as commissioner, only performs at the behest of one man. How can this once revered institution function efficaciously when the head and the members of its top echelon are so compromised. The top brass of the police force needs to be fired and replaced by persons of integrity, impartiality , intelligence and independence. Talk gets you nowhere, action does.

Nothing in the article said that, shameless. Grow up, everything doesn’t have to be about party politics. If you do not have a job, go find one and concentrate on building a decent family, and on wealth generation so you can effectively care for them. In that way you avoid growing horns.

It is narrow partisan politics that has Dominica languishing in the bottom position in the OECS in terms of economic and infrastructural developments, minimum wage and good governance.

You need to live in Dominica, open your eyes when you walking around, and read between the lines. Nothing in the article said that as you rightfully said, however everyone in Dominica knows how things run. The PM says what police do and dont do. Carbon just follows orders. For example, at a national assembly at Independence time, the PM’s personal protection, (I know he is attached to the PM’s personal detail) a police officer, was sent to take Dr. Irving Pascal and Mr. Sanford from the Kalinago territory, out of the audience area because they brandished a protest banner against what is going on in the country. No crime was committed.

I do not live in Dominica. I left in 2005 but I am aware of what is going on there. You all are the ones glorifying Skerrit. You associate his name with everything on the island. This is pathetic.

What a fine bunch of clean and brave men. Bless are the peace makers, for they shall inherit the kingdom of GOD. Your OFFICE CODE OF PRACTICE. goes like this ;Trust no one; Believe no one, and don’t get involved. The criminals can see you but, you cannot see them. Obey the law; prevent crime and., bring criminals to justice. Good luck.

This is a strong statement as I often wonder how could a country have a police force and still so many things which are supposed to be wrong are being conducted by everyone including police officers. Vehicles drive with ALL windows and windscreen completely blacked out, park anywhere, curse loudly in the presence of officers and children. Well we are not even going to address smoking, drinking and driving, use of cellphones, seatbelts, just name it. Yes they may seem like small things but if they cannot control the little infractions can we expect them to tackle some.thing as big as integrity in public office, fraud etc.

Naaaah. Their duty is not to country, but to The Supreme leader: Roosevelt Skerrit. He is talking bull *bleep* in public; he very well knows that they serve him, and him alone.

I believe this place should be renamed Windsor park entertainment arena. This cannot be a sports stadium when you have 1% of sporting activities annually.

Haha look 28 fellas just made the mistake of their life in joining that unprofessional… Victimization chamber..I mean they pay these guys peanuts for a salary.. that’s unbelievable .. how do people even contemplate on joining that thing? My best advice to you recruits is to use this as a stepping stone and join some other police force because if u fail to do that ur life will just be wasted.. man can u believe That a man like Daniel carbon and others can be heading a police force? These guys are uneducated and no nothing about leadership.. they abuse they men and expect positive results .. my God .. not my son that goin in that.. pa la .. never ..
