49 new voters for bi-elections

Chief Elections Officer Marina Williams says 49 new voters have been added to the electoral list.

The electorate in Salisbury and Marigot are voting today to elect a new leader.

Williams is also urging voters to pay attention to instructions posted at the polling stations.

“Persons who are standing in the line need to take time off to read instructions before casting their ballots. The presiding officers will ask persons to leave their mobile phones on the desk. We are taking precautionary measures because the ballot is suppose to be a secret one and we will try as hard as possible to make that as secret as we can,” she said.

She said in the December 18, 2009 there was a total 2,599 voters in Salisbury.

She however said for this bi-election, an additional 26 voters have been added.

“In Marigot we had 2,536 for general elections and now an additional 23 new voters. We notice that there are some constituencies historically have a low turnout but we are asking the voters to go out today and cast their votes,” she said.
