Albert re-elected to head Canefield Urban Council

Albert

The Canefield Urban Council will inaugurate its chairman this afternoon.

Simeon Albert was re-elected to the post unopposed yesterday by a five-member panel. Three council members were absent and there were no other candidates for the position.

The inauguration ceremony is scheduled for 5 pm at the Old Mill Cultural Center.

Albert’s election comes in the midst of controversy from three other council members led by former nurse Justina James. The three caused the disruption of the election, which were to be held since last week. Their contention is that the appointments of some council members are politically motivated.

When asked for a comment on the position of the other members Albert said, “They are the ones saying that so they should know best about it.”

@VALDA BRUNO DURAND: Canefield People just remember. “NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION” we do not accept corruption. we are not about hand outs, we want to work and earn our living. Roosevelt Skerrit was out of state so he could not walk in Yander and Bena Ravine with Simeon because that’s how the prey on the less fortunate people, offer them things and fool them. They were there last Council election, did they kept their promise. Skerrit thinks he owns Dominica and behaves as if he is Santa Claus every day of the year.
You cannot pay Public Officers a decent increase in salary because they will be too independent, but you can give money at every function you address.
The cloud of darkness and corruption you cast on Dominica it will soon be broken, its just a matter of time. When we will open our eyes, you and people like Simeon will be history. All the people who bray for you will all be saying “I had warn him” they will be nowhere around you. I have lived long enough to witness it. I will be back readers.

@WOW: It is disturbing that the same people including the Prime Minister who just told Dominicans to respect the democratic process becasue they were voted into office, would turn around 180 degrees and dishonour the democratic process. Domnitchen levee!! Open your eyes!! It is good for the goose but bad for the gander. We have to respect the general election results but we do not have to respect urban council elections?

Father have mercy on us as a nation. We confess the sins of the people of our nation to you. Put a hand on all this talking talking. Have mercy on our people. “If my people would humble themselves and turn away from their wicked ways, then I will pour a blessing on them from Heaven and heal their land” thus saith the Lord. The people of this nation is the Nations worse enemy. They are only spewing negative and confusion in this Land of ours. The praying population please take note and do what has to be done for this land. Let us pray for all our Leaders in Government, Local Givernment and wherever they are and also the Opposition. Let us pray for Unity. Heavenly Father bless our lovely island Dominica.

Birds of a feather flock together. Is that how a woman, the Minister of Community Development, has treated another woman who is a LOVING, HONEST, HUMBLE RETIRED NURSE, MA JAMES? All Ma James wish to do is to give back to her Community. Ma James have given decades of dedicated, YEOMAN Service to her country Dominica. Dominicans Love Her. That move smells of dictatorial rubbish. Central Govt. should desist from trying to control the voices of the people. Let the people’s ideas reign for their own development . WHY do you all, GOVT., just want to throw your way of thinking on Communities, whether they want it or not?

It is not the first time that this Govt. has disrespected and ridiculed entire Communities. It is not the first time that this Govt., has rejected the genuine ideas and aspirations of the people in Communities. Numerous examples could be cited. Their approach is outdated. That dictatorial, TOP-DOWN approach has failed everywhere. Such actions DIS-EMPOWERS people in the Communities and drives them away from participating meaningfully in Community Programmes and Projects.

This is a total disgrace! Canefield deserves better than that. There must be something very special in the chairmanship that Simeon knows about so he cannot leave it. The Canefield people should not pay house rates, let the council run on air.

This is another nail in the coffin! You could fool some of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.

Coming events cast their shadows before them ………………We go see…………..

The President of the COUNCIL on AGING, due to his actions and being silent on that DICTATORIAL MOVE, has shown a refusal to protect the RIGHTS of the ‘AGING’. Isn’t Joseph part of that Council? One of them who is treating an elder person like himself with utter disrespect. SHAME ON YOU JOSEPH. SHAME on You Ex Top Police Officer. A massive SHAME. Time to REPENT.

Is that how a woman treats another woman? Minister of Community Development hijacked the democratic process because of her Partisan Political stance. Her action is a blow to women exercising their rights to participate fairly in their communities’ development. SHAME on you Gloria. SHAME on You, ex-school principal. Any remaining MORAL values you showed before, you use to talk to students about, has been thrown out of the window. A big SHAME on you, GLORIA, to treat another loving woman like Nurse James with so much contempt. Those actions are clearly dictatorial. That action is a MORTAL SIN in the eyes of GOD all powerful, all righteous, all Merciful.

Is that how you and your Govt. ridicule, and cast aside elderly persons like Retired Nurse James, who have given Yeoman service for decades to Dominica as a dedicated, committed, loving Nurse and you all hypocritically espousing ‘CARE FOR THE ELDERLY? Don’t you Care for another loving human being willing to give back to her Community.

Only RED colours and PARTY you seeing now? Wasn’t it you and your Govt. who came up with this year’s theme,’ Creating Opportunities, Empowering Communities? I am sure you know that throwing your ideas down a Community’s throat, whether it likes it or not, is DIS-EMPOWERING? Or should you be told to refrain from those selfish, Partisan motives?

The Dominica National Council of Women (DNCW) should make a statement and condemn such dictatorial actions, because DNCW praised you after the December 2009 elections for being in GOVT. Is Politics you all would give as excuses? That is Partisan Nonsense. But the STRATEGY by GOVT. is to deliberately FRUSTRATE GENUINE, HONEST persons in CONTRIBUTING and PARTICIPATING in their own Community AFFAIRS, SO that Central Govt. and their cronies could control whole communities. That is their PLAN. ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY. That saying IS SO TRUE DOMINICANS. IN OUR FACE.

    October 13, 2010

The Canefield people did not put Simeon back. Government did. In the Council election 5 people are elected and three are nominated. Three were elected from Nurse James team and two from Simeon’s team. The council then nominates three which they did, but they were all rejected by Minister Gloria Shillingford and then she chose three other people. The three who she chose for nominations were the three who got the least votes (were rejected) at the polls and are all on Simeon’s team.
Then you see Nurse James team:3 and all of Simeon’s team: 5. Simeon retains majority and they vote him Chairman.
Then Dominican’s do not see their democracy is in danger.

    Disappointed with this guy.

To the government: You may have the right to appoint or whatever, but you can also allow the electoral process to go on freely WITHOUT your involvement.

This prostitution of the law is more and more openly proving to be an abuse of power because a simple electoral process in a small community CANNOT even be respected. For as small as it seems, it gives credibility to the UWP’s case.

I tell you, this hand voted for you, but NOT AGAIN. Stop that crap!

And Mr. Chairman, right now it looks like you have a point to prove. The law, the law, the law… The law was not designed for this level of manipulation of authority or intimidation of our fellow country men.

Its amazing that people never see the opportunities given to them on silver platters. The Canefield community was given a chance to change directions and change their futures, but chose the same unproductive path. Simeon has been there for a very long time and he needs to allow someone else the chance to lead, if he is a true leader , as he so claims, he would just decline.

I believe the members boycotting the council is working perfectly for Albert, I am sure he would love not to have them around. They may have moral ground to stand on but not legal grounds. Althought i sympathizes with them i am lost to understand why they are after chairmanship you would think they cannot function without it. Right now they just doing what Albert would want and they dont even realise it.

Simeon, if I was in your position I would have refused the chairmanship of the council. Let someone else do it and you serve as a member. Please do not consider another term and you can even step down from the council.

Let those who want to be in charge get the opportunity. Not everyone is given the talent to lead.

I see a difficult road ahead for you.

I am so sorry that my people are all blind. Why should government be involved in urban council affairs unless there were some illegal activities going on? Canefield people have spoken and said they do not want Simeon. Teacher Glo come out from nowhere and set up committee and appoint the man who came on third. Are you serious? We sit down and allow people to treat us like floor mats. People rise up and seek justice. Our rights are being violated. They are rejecting the voice of the people who clearly chose Maximae as chairman. If Teacher Glo want to give Simeon a position put him in Ministry. He will do well there.
