Bernard said there will be a massive urban renewal program in Roseau

Dominica Labour Party (DLP) for Roseau Central Alvin Bernard has outlined some of his plans for the city of Roseau if elected as Parliamentary Representative in the December 8 general election.

Bernard made some of the plans known at a meeting at Lagoon, Roseau on Tuesday night.

He said there will be a massive urban renewal program in Roseau.

“This massive exercise in urban renewal will upgrade the physical appearance of Roseau, while preserving its architectural heritage,” he said. “The plans include improve drainage and sanitation, resurface roads and improve pavements, more parking spaces and better traffic management. New and renovated private housing and public buildings.”

He said there will be a “greening the city, the creation of sporting and recreational facilities such as a large indoor sports stadium, an Olympic size swimming pool for the young people and a tennis court.”

He stated that the Roseau River Promenade, which has already begun, will be completed.

“A modern vendors’ market, more venues for the performing and visual arts and we will continue ongoing support for a wide range for the cultural industries,” Bernard said.

He said under his watch Roseau will “not only the political and administrative and commercial capital of Dominica, but also the entrepreneurial and new business hub of Dominica, the sports capital of the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the Cultural capital of the Creole World and the Eco-tourism capital of the region.”

“We have even gone further and secured the funding for the complete renovation of Roseau,” Bernard said.

Hellooo, isnt that the same Allo who has been sitting as Parliamentary Representative for Dominica Labour Party for how long. He suddenly realize that the city is in a mess? Why he never think of speaking with our “red mayor” and the inefficient Roseau City Council (councillors and mayor, I think the staff are doing their best with what they have) to get them to clean up Roseau? Since 2000 Austrie say he sign an agreement with the Kuwati Fund for $8 million to fix Roseau, where that money go? Mister and that Mayor should be ashamed of themselves to have Roseau in that state.

    • Fire and Ambulance Services Division
    • Prison Services Division
    .Pay Charlo his rent

HAHAHAHAHAHA “Olympic style swimming pool?”… really? That is ok, we know and LOVE our river.
Last night, i see you do something and i will not talk about it but as a politician i have one piece of advice for you, even if you “think” or know some one is a workers, it is better to treat them nice than fresh. If i had any feelings to vote for you like i did for the past few weeks, that change. I would not vote for you nor Isacc but you play me fresh. GOOD BYE! too late to apologize. (i coming up to talk to you and you move out on me, you see me coming and you move out? I never ask you for money, i just wanted to feel your vibes and that you doing? Well i going to tell my cousin and tell my neighbor and tell everybody what you did and guess what, i know i can be very influential on all of them, your loss)

“This massive exercise in urban renewal will upgrade the physical appearance of Roseau, while preserving its architectural heritage,” he said. What has happened to the inclusion of the North Roseau River wall project within this vision? there is no beautification or urban renovation going on this project. where is the “greening the city”? as this is a renovation project! it’s clear that you guys have no developmental plan for the city of Roseau. this plain retaining wall which has been constructed adjacent to the buildings has no space for greening or parking or even a footpath or a combination of any of those options. so who are you truly trying to foul?

Urban renewal in layman’s terms means that Roseau will get a face lift with a certain level of modernization in infrastructure including roads, sidewalks, walkways, parks, traffic flow, the tourism sector, craft and other creative industries. The promenade construction has already begun. The quality of life in Roseau is going to be improved. I hope that this is helpful Mr fake Jon Carson.

All of them are saying the same thing, promises upon promises, LABAR DABAR, has to go, try the other party, and if they are not delivering they have to go too, but just give them five years to prove themselves at least that.

  12. ****
    December 3, 2014

All of them saying the same thing, LABAR DABAY has to come out of there, “enough is enough”, give the other party a chance, if they not delivering, then they have to come out of there too, simple, but give them a chance.

Approx. 4 days count down to election and you suddenly fly from the coocoo’s nest announcing you paln to upgrade Roseau. You think you can come in like the gunpoint president. We, the public, will be casting our votes wisely, and we will be voting you out.
    Workers!!!!!!!!!!!!!The SAW for sure.
By the way, have you ever had a death in your family? Just be reminded that skerrit’s sympathy was a pretence. You have no shame to be in league with such a heartless man. Bye.

This is old news that has been around for over ten years now Alo. What happen to the sporting centre you all promised construction would start immediately around 3 years ago behind the stadium by the Grammar School, you all cleared it and grass just grew over it. Today it hasn’t happen, and you all want people to vote for you all. Dominicans have woken up including myself who would never have thought I would put an X by UWP, but times have changed LABOUR HAS LOST ITS WAY!!!

Where you getting the money for all that Mr. Bernard. Politicians just love to come and talk about plans they have when election come around. The budget for Dominica is an average of just about $400 million per year. On that budget we struggling to pay Public works salaries and teachers salaries and maintain the roads and govt buildings. Now and then we get a grant from EU and china to do major projects but I doubt they giving you money for indoor swimming pool and indoor sports stadium.

I made a similar comment on the article for the St. Joe workers lady. Politicians have to be realistic. Who they think they fooling I don’t know. All these things sound nice but there is no way he can deliver on all those promises. I guess both UWP and DLP will say anything to get in power.

Upgrade yourself first Aloe and don’t let Skerrit treat you like a little whipping boy so we can all have more respect for you. Good luck brother.
