Controversy in DLP Wesley camp

The Wesley Labour Party Constituency Association has elected a new executive but the man who held the Chairman position in the old executive is not taking the matter lightly.

As matter of fact Cleaveland Dodds is describing the election of the new executive as “bogus” and is promising to “retaliate.”

“That is a bogus story,” he told Dominica News Online on Wednesday.

According to information published on Facebook by Athenia Benjamin, who is the “caretaker of the Association” and who unsuccessful contested the Wesley constituency for the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), the body met at Cabrits on Sunday March 15 to “elect the executive of the Constituency Association.”

But Dodds said the current executive was never informed of the meeting.

“They left the constituency and went to Cabrits, I understand, and formed this thing,” he said. “They didn’t even have the courtesy to do it in the constituency. That is something they tried to capture the constituency unnoticed to the current executive.”

He stated the matter has to do with politics.

“I thought politics was over,” Dodds noted. “But some people, they will never learn at all as far as I see it and I will never stand for them and their nonsense.”

He is vowing that the old executive will retaliate on the behalf of the Wesley constituency.

“Our constituency will surely retaliate one of these days, it’s a matter of time,” he said. “Because what they are doing there is not recognized by the constituency. We cannot be happy. We will attest to it sooner or later. We are planning our next move.”

Dominica News Online made several attempts to contact Benjamin on the matter on Wednesday but was unsuccessful.

It is no secret that Dodds was unhappy at the selection of Benjamin to contest the constituency for the DLP at the last general election.

He believed that Benjamin was imposed on the constituency and had described the selection as a form of ‘dictatorship’ on the behalf of the DLP hierarchy.

The members of the new executive are:

Chairman: Wilson Honore
Vice Chair: Natadla Attidore
Secretary: Lyn Benjamin
Treasurer: Theodora Nixon,
PRO: Rosie Parillon
Education Officer: Algernon Shaw
Field Officers: Sherlock St. John and Federick Laurent
Ex officio Members: Ian Alexander and Reggie Severin
Caretaker: Athenia Benjamin.

Well, whereas I used the word foreign; I was not speaking in terms of foreigners, as people from another country. Foreign in this term means unknown to me after all you will realize that I left there so long that even when I return I do not know my own relatives.

One day I was at Londondeery River, bathing, I sat on a stone next to a young man, he was very quiet, I ask him how come you are not as noisy as the others: he said “I don’t know.” So, I ask the guy who are your family in Wesley, the boy told me “Barbara is my mother.” So, I said to then I am your uncle, because Barbara is my sister. I would go home nobody introduces themselves; that is not the only time that happened.

One night I sat drinking and arguing with someone, not knowing that the guy is my brother by father. Hahahahahahahahahaahahahah. A long time ago he traffic in Antigua, I went to buy something from, which I ask him how much, he said you can take man, I doh your money, he may have known we are…

I need to give it all to you: When I found out the it only then I realize why he gave me the bananas, yam and plantain I intended to buy from him. Here is one that will shuck you. One time I freshly came out of Germany, Evans Dods was a Methodist Minister in Antigua, he had a party and invited me and my former wife, and some friends from Germany. While sitting there a tall guy walked in.

My former wife said to me: You see that man, he is the one who told me I can come into his store, and take any material I want for free for my children. I did not like the guy all night he out talk everybody, I told violet I do not like that man.

What do you know that man is my biological brother by father, I only found out the night prior to our father burial, time sometimes takes it tole on people, when we stay away to long we forget faces too.

I was in Wesley, Julian Dods came speaking to me I could not remember his face he walked away angry, when he left they told that’s your uncle…

I hope you were at least polite to him. :) There are some people whom we have not seen in years and probably since we were very young, as children. Some may be older or younger. They recognized you but you did not recognize them. They will say, “Do you not remember me?” The polite response is, “No.” Could be an embarrassment. :) Oh yes! They could get angry and disappointed.
It has to be explained to some people that they should not take offense. Years go by and as some people grow up their features could change especially if they are either slim or put on weight or probably were (are) sick. People should not take offense if others do not recognize them. It is maturity for them to introduce themselves and clear the air.
It is too late now but later you should have gone to him and apologized and/or tell him you did not recognize him. This would have made him feel better. Unless he was so angry with you that he turned you off from approaching him.

My question to both the former and current branch executive is ” What does the DLP constitution say about the process for the eletion of the branch executive?” Aren’t there procedures to be followed? Were they followed? If they weren’t followed doesn’t that make the election null and void? Just asking those who may know better.

It is sad to see such infighting for power instead of concentrating on making things better for their constituents. That Labour Party will self-destruct, mark my words, because it is no longer true to the ideals it was founded on. I predict a split in two not too far away because there must be enough labourites that are disgusted what is being done in the name of their party. Well, they have a right to break away, that is democracy too.

The results of the last general election in Wesley is ample testimony about how a house divided against itself cannot stand. The two families in Wesley must mend their ways, bury the hatchet and move on. There is work to be done Since both sides seemingly have not learnt their lesson following the results of the last general election. There seem to be only one solution. The aggrieved side should simply go over and join the UWP. That should end the bitter family squabble.

You made me laugh.   This is true. Dodds created a lot of trouble ever since he knew Athenia was vying for the seat in Wesley.
You know, this man has no class, tact and dignity. One would think that he would not have made such a public fuss about this since they are both DLP members. It appears that Dodds is not a smart man. He is an embarrassment to DLP How many members will have respect for him after his charade and now?
Honestly, how can he mend the rift and harm he has done to the Party and to Athenia? Let us be fair. He really should resign.

      March 21, 2015

There is one thing you need to learn about Wesley; and that is basically every person from Wesley is related in one way or the other, either by mother or father side of the equation.

Your truly is the product of two cousins, and that’s just the way it is: And for those who might be quick to talk about incest, think about how this entire universe (world) became populated. Hint Adam was the first human created, from his body God extracted a rib (the first surgery) on earth, from which made Eve. They had children, hence it is obvious that brother and sisters had children.

There is an account in one of King Solomon’s in the Bible, read it no time to explain. And before anybody say “him father, and him mother is related.”

I suggest you take a look at the history of the Royal family in modern day England.

That is good for Dodds. I just cant get it that he and the others who were unceremonously booted out can support this regime, which calls itself Dominica Labour Party. TAKE WHAT YOU GET, AND SHUT THE HELL UP! Some Parl Reps will get their marching orders later down.

    • The Facts
      March 18, 2015

If he was booted out, he should stay out. No one needs his advice. He has created enough trouble and damaged his reputation within the DLP Party. He is of no help to them. He should just bow out.
For your information, the DLP is not a regime. If you think it is, so is UWP with aggressive and bossy leader, Lennox Linton who consistently has a demonstration as if this is all he is capable of doing and is an expertise in demonstrating.
Keep that in mind whenever you think of criticizing DLP in general.

Cleveland, while you are at it, perhaps you can advised our cousin, Athenia to pay the rent she and the Labor Party, owe my sisters, for the use of our late father’s house in which they played politics during the elections: and tell her she need to return the building in the same clean condition as it was when she entered into it.

Remind her did not get any permission to paint the front of the house red and white, therefore she need to paint it in its original color. I had to contain our sole sister who is the boss over the house from going to Wesley and deal with the matter.

The only person who had authority to rent the House to her is Izine, and Izine has no idea how she manage to gain access the premises, in addition she called police on our sister Bernie, in a house that she is part benefactor, I take that seriously!

What a tragedy, Skerrit stabbing his own supporters in the back, because you can’t tell me that all this was concocted by Anthea,.: “His will be done on earth as it is in hell”, yes Sir! How can there ever be unity in our little country with despicable behavior like this. You see all of that happens when people believe more in others than in themselves. Skerrit has many of Wesley people hooked on lies and promises. He uses people and when he is finished with them he cast them aside as an old pair of used shoe.

Everybody in Wesley gallivanting behind Skerrit, will eventually live long enough to regret it! The man has no respect for the people of Wesley, he believes the people are shallow, that is why he invited a hand full of people from the village to go to Claibishe to listen to an paid idiot from Barbados to talk to them believing that this Bajan clown words would influence Wesley people to vote for him.

My only concern is why Ms Benjamin who claims to be qualified in dealing with abuse and according to her has years of experience in that field – isn’t the one heading the ministry of Social Welfare.

I believe that her years of experience should be put to use here. Her abilities and skills and years of practice, is surely being wasted in the diaspora affairs department.

Otherwise, they can all continue to bicker with each other for position in their constituency association. Though the PM deliberately went against the wishes of the people, they voted for her! She had many many many more votes than she should have gotten – considering the disrespect shown by her “installation” as the dlp candidate – so take what allu get.

I just think based on the CV she gave on the Heng on the days leading up to election – she convinced me and even gave me hope that something was going to take place to improve the welfare of our vulnerable members. I vex the PM doh make her minister :-(

Facts, Skerrit is not interested in Athenia: he has used her for a long time. Around 2010 he made that woman travel to Dominica claming he was going to put her on the ballet. That was a lie, I got it from a inside source that the major players, decision makers never consider her not once! I told that to Athenia long ago.

The only reason they run Gloria, is because the people of Wesley, and Woodford Hill demanded Gloria, in spite of that Skerrit and his clones thought Gloria was too old. You had better shut your mouth because you do not know what you are talking about. While I was in Canada, when I mentioned to someone Athenia was going to be the candidate then; the person asked me “Francisco are you mad?” All Skerrit want to do is use her to campaign. As they say in Wesley, she talks good politics, but fall short in other avenues okay, and that is why some people did not vote for her.

I do not know why an old man like Algernon should be still playing politics. The man is over eighty (80) years old, he completed his career as an educator, if he wish to serve the youths of Wesley in any capacity; perhaps he should organized night class, helping to educate some of the illiterate people in the village, there are still people in Wesley who cannot read or write, and some of them are young!

And I hope nobody from Wesley opens their mouth on me because; both Athenia, and Algernon grandmother, mother is the biological aunt of yours truly! But I contend, it is the waste of time people like Algernon who aids and abate Skerrit in keeping the country down, and poor!

The old die, the young die and some very young. No one knows when they will “kick the bucket”. Is this a saying in the US as well?
Those who live to be a ripe old age, they are fortunate for in the New Testament, it is stated, the number of days/years is, 3 scores and 10, if they are lucky. The rest, people are living on borrowed time. They should thank God and pray to him and ask him to keep them healthy and give them a longer life. Hopefully, they spend the rest of their days fruitfully – doing good on earth.
I was never nurtured to speak ill of those who are poor, sick/infirmed and aged and to laugh at them and make sarcastic remarks about their age. It is not nice to do for all of us are aging and who knows for how long.
We should ever be respectful of them for we know not what will occur to us in the future. I could cite many instances but you should know.
