DAIC criticizes Minister Savarin’s boycott request, “disassociates” itself from Brisbane’s letter

Minister Savarin

The current discord surrounding the issue of Mr. Brisbane’s letter to aid donors and the response from Minister Savarin for a boycott of OD Brisbane & Sons is a distraction from more pressing national issues.

The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) disassociates itself from Mr. Brisbane’s letter which, in effect, casts aspersions on Dominica’s good name among donors.

The Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC) does not believe that any Minister of Government should be calling for a boycott of any legal business establishment in Dominica.

Implicit in the constitutional right to free expression is the obligation to act responsibly to avoid tarnishing the names and reputations of individuals, institutions, businesses and yes, Dominica.

Reason and good judgement must always prevail.

yes DAIC it is ok to disagree but in the meantime if the UN and the other institutions had taken the letter seriously then other people would certainly be out of job; so jerry should think before he had written that bogus letter! so people would be out of job on either side!

My God when is this game of cat and mouse between Savarin and Brisbane end…looking to be included in the Guiness Book of World Record???

But wait nor DAIC how when they say to boycott Astaphans and Cost u Less to but vegetables in the market instead all you eh talk. To late the damage has already been done to our Country.
Both sides the Government and the man who wrote the letters would have to send home employees anyway.

Government would have to stop all projects that maybe employing hundreds and so people would not have money to shop and the man would have to send home staff- sales slow. So think of the consequences on Government and the SUpermarket in question. We have to watch what we say and do.

Minister Savarin is out of place to make such comments about anyone, for the same whip you use to beat can be used on you in the future. But really Mr Brisbane is completely out of order to write those letters to the donor community that Dominica depends on. Really, how did Mr Brisbane expect his letter to be received? Mr Brisbane actions could have serious long term implications with the relations we enjoy with these donors.
All in all, both Mr Savarin & Mr Brisbane need to look carefully, and most especially, SPEAK CAUSTIOUSLY!

This is what happens when the powers that be have influence over all orgainizations and institutions in a state, no one can speak TRUTH to power, they wrap up the truth in so many different layers that it is impossible to get to it, or what they really mean by what they are saying.. What utter verbiage from the DAIC. And LATE at that! They should simply say that they AGREE with Savarin and shut up. Because that is what their ambivalence says. How in the world does Brisbane’s letter “tarnish” Dominica’s “good name”. What “good name” are they talking about? What does the letter call for? Is it a legitimate call? Who they fooling.

I think that this whole letter incident was Jerry’s way of getting back at the government for providing incentives to an new business (Save A Lot) for beginning operations in Dominica. If we follow our news we would have been aware that just a few months ago Jerry came on one of the local radio stations talking about the different tax cuts and preferential treatment which the new company was receiving form the government. well, Mr. Brisbane if you was at school up to 4th or 5th form level you would have learned that government often do these things so that new business can start operations in their country to bring jobs and revenue into the country. So as far as i’m concerned we should just drop this whole topic because eventually it will cast a bad light on our country and the out come will be good for nobody maybe except Mr. Brisbane and his family who don’t need the money new businesses would bring into the country.

    November 28, 2010

Is it true that there is division in the DAIC?
Is it true that they could not come to a mutual decision in response to this letter/boycott issue?
Is it true that they are so divided that there has been ‘cussing up’ amongst them?
Is it true that some members entertain the PM and Charlo at their home so have to defend them?
Is it true that some members believe the DAIC should be disbanded as it is non functional?
Is it true that the DAIC is just another example of what associations have become in Dominica, divided, partizan, corrupt.

This statement by DAIC is to play a balancing act in the interest of the board of directors not its members. I would like the members of DAIC should show there dissatisfaction if they are not pleased with this statement.

Today is O D Brisbane tomorrow it can be any of you the paying members, And DAIC will still distance it self cause it is not in the interest of the board of directors. WHAT A SHAME

To say it is a distraction from pressing issues. DAIC had given 5 points before budget so that government can include in there budget. Guess what Government has so much respect for DAIC that none of the issues were taken under consideration. All Jerry is doing is to see that all money put in projects are used properly given by the donor agencies , Dont u do it in your business board of directors

Talking about Jerry cast aspersions on Dominicas good name. i would like DAIC to show me where in Jerrys letter he was trying to do that. There is no difference in the statement made by CHALO and TONY and the DAIC just turning the facts. SHAME ON YOU DAIC.

Regarding the statement against Chalo i can say it was really balanced. COMMENTS ON JERRY WAS MADE BY MANY ON THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND COMMENTS ON CHALO WAS JUST TO ACCOMMODATE 2 OR 3 BOARD AND MANY GENERAL MEMBERS. SHAME ON YOU DAIC

Last two paragraph is to please every body and come out looking clean and pretty.

Sum Fing Wong is obviously a DAIC member who is disgruntled. He is blaming the DAIC for his failures. He stated that the Government did not consider DAIC’s proposals in the budget. Can he also tell us whether the Government listened to him in his crusade against the Chinese? Sum Fing Wong better concentrate on his shrinking business.

It seems as if you your self is also the member of the DAIC or on the BOD. MY CRUSADE AGAINST CHINESE WAS AS THE RESULT OF INEFFIENCY OF THE DAIC. WHEN DAIC DONT HAVE BALLS TO TAKE ON ISSUE WITH REGARDS TO PRIVATE SECTOR AND THE PAYING MEMBERS YOU HAVE TO DO WHAT IT TAKES
GUESS WHAT AFTER MY RADIO PROGRAM DAIC HAD MEETINGS WITH CHINESE EMBASSY AND MET PM AND LOT MORE.

Quoting from DAIC’s release above “Mr. Brisbane’s letter which, in effect, casts aspersions on Dominica’s good name among donors.” How did Mr. Brisbane’s letter tarnish or cast aspersions on Dominica’s good name???

Mr. Brisbane obviously was vehemently against the construction of this $27M palace and wanted that money used for more pressing areas of need. He chose to deal with the matter by writing these letters. The EU’s response so far has clearly indicated that it looks forward to continued good relationship with Dominica.

Have any of the other recipients indicated that they have lost trust and confidence in Dominica since receiving his letters? If so, instead of everyone giving his/her own interpretation, get the responses from the recipients of the letters.

Maybe Mr. Brisbane, after reviewing all the feedback he has received from all quarters, should withdraw back to his privacy and let the chips fall where they may, thanking all those who have supported him since the call was made by Minister Savarin to boycott his business.

On last night’s edition of the Next Level program on KairiFM, it was made clear that the PM is clearly moving ahead with the plans for the palace, that he has no interest in the results of the petition – that he will not even believe that the signatures are legit, and that he treasures Minister Savarin and is surely not considering dismissing him.

    Mr. Brisbane should take note.

” … cast aspersions on Dominica’s GOOD name ….. ” Is this some kind of joke? Is the DAIC implying that Mr. Brisbane’s allegations are totally unfounded? Or are they attempting to play NEUTRAL, (a euphemism for burying their heads in the sand) like the Vatican did during the Second World War?

NB: The Vatican collaborated with Nazi Germany during World War II.

Seems we all want good for Dominica and Dominicans, but also seems we want to be the one that can say,,,,,,”we did this, or I did that….”
Brings me back to Daddy Chess calypso……like crabs in a barrel. Is that what we are? I do no want you to shop at Brizee Mart..or i do not want you to mention Charles Saverin name…ahhh nonesense. Time we grow up.
We do make irresponsible comments at times,,,and we should be “big” enough to own up and say we made a mistake and move on. We just like to dwell on the negative things far too long…More reasons to create tension between individuals and groups.
We are coming to the close of 2010, can we all, for a change put Dominica first in 2011? Can we strive for togetherness and towards common goals?- Top of the line health care; Improved roads conditions; among others.
Remember we are the ones to build our Country. Not someone else.
