Darroux promises focus on youth in parliament

Kelver Darroux at swearing in of Prime Minister Skerrit yesterday

Newly-elected parliamentary representative for the St. Joseph constituency, Kelver Darroux, has promised to champion issues affecting the youth of St. Joseph in Dominica’s parliament.

Darroux, 30, won his seat at last Fridays general elections over Henry John Abraham of the United Workers Party, Marcella Boatswain of the Dominica Progressive Party, and Roland Mitchel of the People’s Democratic Movement.

He said he will effectively represent the young people in parliament.

“I am a young person, and one of the things that drive and motivate me is to see young people around me achieve. I will be working closely with the youth both on a national and constituency basis to ensure that they continue to benefit and be provided with opportunities,”  he said.

“I am … humbled by the fact that I am the youngest one in parliament because it really shows that the young people can achieve. It is now left up to me to continue to work with the people of the constituency because they have entrusted me,” he said.

Darroux said his success must be attributed to God and a solid team.

“Being involved in a political campaign is not an easy job. Going house to house, trying to convince people to vote for you, isn’t easy at all,” Darroux admitted.

The new MP is also concerned about the mentality of Dominicans.

“When individuals begin to understand that it is their responsibility to ensure that they portrait positive behavior, that change will be seen in the country,” he said.

Darroux said he will meet with the St. Joseph community in an effort to better understand their concerns.

so, how do you plan on doing that Kelver? Let me first suggest that you set up and email address…[email protected] so you can read for yourself the request and concern of the people. Unless you hear what the youth wants and keep it in front of you, you will have a real difficult time following through on your promisses.

Congratulations young man. As an accomplished young Dominican myself, I wish you great success in your parliamentary endeavours. I am not a member of and neither do I support any political party in Dominica, but as a Citizen of Dominica, the Government of Dominica is also my Government! However, it is as one young Dominican to another that I congratulate you and pray God’s guidance for you in the service of our country. May you be a true role model and rise to be an exemplary citizen for your fellow young Dominicans – God bless you in your new role as Parliamentary Representative for St. Joseph.
