The Dominica Christian Council (DCC) and the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches (DAEC) are deeply concerned about statements made recently from the political platform and on the radio with respect to candidates. These statements are contrary to the spirit of the code that was signed.
The DCC and DAEC are concerned that the general spirit of the code is not being observed.
The DCC and DAEC remind all concerned of the commitments made and the implicit agreement to self monitoring. The DCC and DAEC remind all parties that character assassination will only lead to further confusion and deterioration of the currently charged political environment.
As we move closer to the election date, let us be reminded that we are all citizens of Dominica, that we are our brother’s keeper and post December 8, we are to live and work together for the furtherance of our country.
The DCC and DAEC ask their members to lead the way in keeping sober discourse and peace. This weekend, rallies are being planned for the Castle Bruce and Carib Territory. The churches are asking that wisdom and good sense prevail as the parties traverse the same route.
The DCC and DAEC will convene meetings with the political parties to further discuss the matter.
The Christian council is spineless. Be clear about what you supposedly stand for and don’t hesitate to call a spade a spade. WWJD!

The only church I’d go to is Pastor Rodney, cause he was the ONLY religious figure who was MAN ENOUGH to call out the accuser and denounce such horrible vilification. All dem other religious figures have lost their way, their voice and the strength and confidence to say when Wrong is Wrong! And for what? A church donation or a state funeral?
I would advise team dominica not to take part in the meeting. It is a waste of time. Keep your positve message and focus on issues as you guys have been doing. Let the DCC call out those who breach original contract. They need to focus on thier congregation. The church has been the one kissing skeritts ring and this is all a show to save face.

It is pointless, the conveners could not even get the parties to exchange a hand shake!!! So this is no more than an attempt by the conveners to appear relevant!!!
It is said that the election code could not be policed, hence not giving it any teeth, but if you will allow, may I suggest one enforcement tool that can be effectively used? I suggest that the conveners warn the politicians that who ever breaks the code will be named and shamed and DNO will undertake to bring the full text of the naming and shaming into the public domain. Though this may not eliminate the possibility of breaking the code it will go along way in helping politicians recognise it.
Because contrary to what the polls will try to have us believe, this election is going to be pretty close!!! Look at the crowds, Skerritt knows that, this is the reason why he has resorted to such low down tactics. December 8 is drawing closer, this UWP presents Skerritt and his acolytes with their most formidable challenge.

Roosevelt Skerritt knew exactly what he was going to CONTINUE doing, that is why he did not go and sign any CODE OF CONDUCT. The Christian Council must be tooo ashamed of the leader of the country to address this situation as it should be addressed. If someone is doing wrong, no matter who it is, UWP, DLP, PM, President, Priest, Bishop, Pastor, the common man or woman, they should be called out on it. Why is that so difficult? Is it because of fear of retaliation or reprecursion? What message are we sending to the young people, to those who are trying to do the right thing?
DCC and DAEC, COME ON, YOU KNOW WHO BREACHED THE CODE. Skerrit is the one who disregarded it recently, when he addressed his supports in Castle Bruce saying, among other things, that he would not want his daughter, if he had one to be like the upright, and brave candidate for the St. Joseph constituency, because he wouldn’t have a grandchild. That was a loaded comment, coming from one who wants people to vote for him, one who just received a ‘holy’ medal. Hypocrite, nomme maypuisant , Skerrit. What bothers me is the way the crowd, including women cheered him on. Call him out on that. Don’t make any blanket statement. DCC, DAEC, stop being scared. Act in the interest of ALL DOMINICANS and women, by extension. It’s high time that people call a spade a spade. No respect, no law, no constitution.

In the name of humanity and decency let her iniquities go. The words that were uttered by the DLP was on called for. The UWP paved and exploited the young lady in the worst possible way. When the lady was presented on a platform it was said over and over by the men about her beauty and big body parts! That is plain out Sexual harassment. How many people condemn the UWP!

He is stubborn as a horse, but change is inevitable. It is the way forward. Most of us know of his behaviour with student when he taught at PSS. Consent or not, it was illegal to undermine the under age. Old habits die hard. We usualy say leave it in the hands of God, that why such behaviour coninues.
In future traversing the same route should not be. The police should vet the itinerary and work out a schedule where the routes are different.

We all know the Code of Conduct is just a formality and nothing more. The fact that Skerrit snubbed the signing tells you that he thinks little of it. So do I, actually. What can you do if it happens again, as it will from the DLP? Send out another statement?

My fellow countrymen and women, Christian brothers and Sisters, this requires critical self introspection but is worthwhile undertaking. Whether you support one political party over the other, this should not be about party politics, but about common decency and respect for the human race. I certainly don’t want a leader or Prime Minister whose mindset is that “low” about women and his own mother and wife are women. A leader who obviously has no regards or respect for us as citizens of this country, that he would look at us and tell us not to take a shower or a bath on Election Day.
Anyone who has any ounce of common sense can conclude that the leader of the DLP has gone knots – he has lost it. He obviously has regarded us as “gullible” and can tell us anything and we will jump. How can you tell me not to take a shower, what nonsense is that, when you have a health system that is already deteriorated? After I cast my vote, and I become ill, where will I obtain medical treatment? Should I go to the PMH where I may risk the chance of perhaps not returning home alive? Where I may have to end up suing the same government that told me not to shower and their doctors? For my viewpoint, for the leader of the DLP and his party to gain any respect, amongst any sensible citizens, he should simple humble himself and do not send any Spokesperson, but he (himself) should stand up on one of those political platforms and apologize to the general public and in particular, to all the women whom he have insulted including, those in his camp, though he may consider them to “gullible” to even comprehend the impact of what he has said. Only then can the leader and DLP redeem itself in my view, although, as sad and hateful as it may sound, the reality is, given us as a people is they will be re-elected to government.
In the meantime, enough of this belittlement, these insults and personal attacks, as they are not paramount or germane to the development of our country – rise above that DLP.

These two organisations have been supporting Skerrit’ inspite of his behavior, Over the years not one of them have condemned his words and actions. Recently, Fr Thomas came out striking against Dominicans who do not support the DLP. He was so vicious in his attack, yet not even the Bishop weighed in on that. I wish these hypocrites would treat everyone fairly and not take sides. When any politician violates the spirit of the agreement , there should be penalties. For too long Skerrit has been insulting the intelligence of the electorate and it is time for this to stop.

It’s good that these organizations are calling for civility in this season of heightened political action, but they must understand that this is the nature of politics the world over.The purpose is to get advantage over your opponent. In their high and mighty way these churches tear each other apart, especially the Catholic church. So they can’t do it to gain advantage and pretend it does not exist in their own sphere of operations.
