DFP says engagement with people going “quite well”

Vital said the DFP has been engaging the people

Leader of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), Kent Vital, has said that a program embarked upon by the party to engage the people has been going quite well.

He stated over the past two years the party has increased engagement and discussion with the people.

“We have been doing that through our radio program and other means and the response to our radio program has been tremendous,” Vital stated. “People meet me in the street and they say we have been listening and we like what you are saying,”

He said everytime he walks through the streets of Roseau people say more and more of them are listening.

“So our message is getting out there,” Vital remarked. “People like not just our message but they like the approach to our message, they like the way we are bringing it out, there is no malice, there is no hate, there is really the issues and love for country.”

He added that the DFP’s messages is not about “bringing down individuals, there is no attacking anybody, there is no wishing people go to jail.”

“It is really just about our country, where do we want our country to go, what do we need and an opposition party needs to be able to do that,” Vital said. “That is what the Dominica Freedom Party is doing.”

Mister Vital, i firmly believe that if you cut your hair simply for the sake of politics and to be given a fair chance to lead my country, you have proven to me that you are willing to compromise your personal values through peer pressure. I urge you to keep your hair if that is what YOU want to do for yourself, because at the end of the day, half of these people dont even care about you. They are only out for themselves and what they can get. Your hair should not be an issue, one minute we want to play so most back to your roots next minute we want to play house negro. Do good work in your respective communities so they are forced to take you seriously. With that being said i wish you and your party the best of luck.

Why is everyone knocking the man over his dreadlocks. This is part of Caribbean culture. Why is everything that is part of our culture is considered bad? I am just wondering.

Long hair is seen as unprofessional. Politicians should be clean cut and well shaved etc. All that hair is not professional and no it’s not racist. It would not be professional if a white prime minister or president would have long hair either.

No one is knocking the man locks. What we are saying is as a politician locks is not for him. This is a turn off on the world stage but if he believes that he will be accepted by the electorate and other world leaders then keep his locks. We go see who has the last laugh?

      Assertive like Mama Eugenia!?

because slavery has brainwashed us to think we need to cut our hair to be considered decent. Many of those who cry down his hair are “decent christians” who go to church and read their bible. the same bible that speaks about the nazarene vow in Numbers, or figures who themselves had locks. A popular story is that of Sampson who when had his locks cut lost all his strength until they grew back. I have always wondered why we do not accept our culture, why we think we need to put on another mans jacket/suit to be taken seriously. WE dont need their validation to know our self worth. This man’s hair is not the problem. It is mindsets like these who cry down dreadlocks without just cause that are the problem.

You may love Labour as children like ice cream, but you can’t say after 4 consecutive victories you are satisfied with Dominica’s development. Forget Maria. If you have never left Dominica’s shore and your answer is yes,I can forgive you because you cannot compare it with the neighboring islands.
I don’t see UWP as an alternative. So Mr Vital fall in line like our neighboring leaders, its not about you, cut this locks of yours. Then you will be taken seriously.

So you will deny a man a chance to do tremendous work maybe change dominica and propel it light years ahead of where we are now, because of his locks? If a ship that you are on is sinking and the captain of the rescue boat has long bongos down to his ankles, would you stay on the sinking ship because he had locks? jump in the water and try to swim on your own? or jump into rescue boat with the man with locks? brother, get over your prejudices and your false conceptions.

I think you are a good man , and means well for Dominica. But you have to come to terms with the workings of today’s world as far a appearance is concerned. A picture tells a thousands words. Listen to the voices.

For the sake of Dominica we have to come together to kick out this immature..inept PM and his rotten no good book government. Skerrit must go…he has to go. He has been a waste of time with people deeper in poverty….no agriculture.. no jobs……no initiative…no vision.
    Skerritt must go.
    We must have a disciplined government in place. We no longer can tolerate this immature childbbthhs;

As shameless said it’s just a hairstyle, but I can remember my first visit to Canada in 1990 my big brother told me “brother Ju, people still judge you by the way you dress and first impression last.” so Mr Vital I don’t have to say more.Take my comments in sincerity,A freedomite indeed, the last election the party contested I sent $500 and if you are serious the party can count on my wife and I

Ken garson, clean up your appearance if you want to be taken seriously. Curiosity killed the cat but a “stubborn” attitude wiped out his litter. Dominicans will not take you seriously regardless of what they say to your face with that locks on your head. Yes we know its just a hairstyle and this is the modern world but you MUST listen to a majority of your supporters my friend.

Assertive like Mama Eugenia!

I guess he is not willing to listen. Hard heads make soft b!!ts. I would like Mr. Vital to tell me which leader today will look at his picture and want to seriously meet with him! I mean it should not be that way but this is just how the world is. Antics matters my friend, listen to the masses. We are poor and they are rich so they pull the strings. Step up and cut it.

I hope you don’t look as DUMB as your comment. What does a man hair style or religion has to do with that. It just goes to show small minded we are as a society, that even if a man character is good or clean you will not ,make him represent you because of the way he looks.. WOW.

you are contradicting yourself in your statement. If you know it is just a hairstyle and this is the modern world why do you feel the way you do? what about his appearance is unkempt?

Freedom party has always been my party. I am still DFP . I hope we get enough candidates to contest the election in June 2018.
One door at a time will be knocked on to get the message out there. Just like during Ms. Charles time. I will help pass the word around.

    • March 15, 2018

Miss Charles is the one who have you people in that mess right now  I can see the DFP messing things up again. Please let DLP and UWP contest the next election 8-O

I agree with you Peaches. Elections are just around the corner and the DFP doesn’t even have a full slate of candidates to contest the upcoming elections. What kind of impact or inroads can they make? Although it has the right to contest the next election, this party can only be a spoiler. The DFP needs much more time to carefully select its candidates, formulate its policies and to canvass for support. This takes years as there are no quick fixes. By the way, they are some who insist on dragging the leader over burning coals for his hairstyle. I say to them to leave the man alone. There are some politicians with very low haircuts, jacket and tie, and they are most corrupt.

Freedom cannot do it on their own…currently followers have dropped and we only have and see and hear only the four executive members.
In order to get rid of this corrupt Skeerit regime we have to come together…not for self but for our ailing country. Skerrit must go.

Oh yes. Your party needs to boost it’s social media presence as well. You will connect with a greater range of people especially the voting youth. As long as you bring forth a solid candidate in my constituency – you have my vote! :)

For me Dominica comes first before self and party. Yes the Freedom then in government did well and transformed Dominic a to a level if continuity. Today they do notbhavebthst following and the alternative is Hon Linton and thebtrysted UWP…with an exceptional good and trusted team. Dominuca comes first..we need to take her back and save her from this corrupt violent disrespected corrupt Labour government. Skertit and his clowns have failed us.
      Let’s take Dominica back.
