Deputy Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) Ambrose George said despite criticisms from a small section of the population, the party has performed well over the years.
In a statement issued Wednesday, George said government can also boast of positive reviews in 2010 and that the allegations against the DLP are unjustified.
He said the alleged massive smear campaign led by the United Workers Party should be condemned.
“It is incumbent upon me to strongly condemn the unjustified, unfounded, inaccurate, malicious and vindictive statements, coming from persons whom I can only describe as detractors, opportunist, malicious and vexatious,” he said.
According to George, to say that democracy is under threat in Dominica at this time is untrue.
“People in Dominica express themselves more openly and freely than ever before. We see a new trend in society by the disciple of evil who call evil good and good evil. All in their attempt to frustrate the progressive social, cultural, political, educational, health and economic strides which we are experiences today in our country,” George said.

We enjoy more freedom than most places in the world. We have the right to elect our leaders, and did so as recently as December 2009. We have freedom of speech, just turn on the radio and listen to the talk shows. We have freedom of assembly, the UWP had a “rally” in Roseau last month and while not many people showed up (less than 100, after weeks of promotion and transportation provide) it wasn’t because the were prevented from participating.
The fact that the vast majority of people choose not to support the opposition UWP is yet another example of our many freedoms.
Off course democracy is alive it does not mean that Democracy is not sick. In fact so sick that democracy seem feeble and unstable.

Mr George, Kill the allegations with the documented truth. Who really cares about any smear campaign led by the United Workers Party what I care about is DLP putting the lie to the unjustified allegations against the administration. Come clean, stop hiding important public information. Stop spinning the facts. Answer the public’s questions. I suspect however, if the truth was to come out the allegations will cease to be unjustified.

I try to be objective and I must admit that the UWP organization is by no means ready to lead this country. I also believe that given another opportunity to UWP and it’s cronies will operate no different than the current administration.. People like Groovy Bat and Lennox will be walking around like they are gods , DBS will be a one way station and the UWP business community will begin to flourish again. ( Not with standing Timothy cross under the bridge and Charles Saverin will no longer be selling roast Chicken – I know where some of the Chinese money gone by the way hmmmmmm ). Government contracts will be conveniently placed in the hands of a few hawks, ministers will be getting rich overnight and false declaration of assets will be the norm.
All Dominicans must be grateful for the efforts of the UWP – I am for sure. I believe that the work of Lennox and UWP Hench men have now given those crooks something to think of. Some of us may not want to admit the truth but the rapid corruption that was spreading through this administration seem to be a little bit under control. Why because of the scrutiny and disclosure of misconduct by the likes of Lennox , Matt and d Groovy Bat. Had this misconduct not been revealed or exposed our country would have been much much worse.
However disliked the opposition has done a great service. Much more Dominicans to include the diaspora ( To include chartered voters) are paying attention to what our government is doing. Our eyes are on you corrupt and crooked politicians. I am convinced that you the corrupt ones are fully aware of that. The truth is in the past people would most likely not become aware of Ambrose little schemes; The Garbage Bin and Fertilizer rip off may never have been discovered; the land tax evasion and those questionable land deals would be just another usual business. The level of scrutiny should be considered as one area of growth and we the people Green , Red and Blue must continue this trend now and in the future..
