DLP-government helped country from sinking financially – Blackmoore

Blackmoore

Public Works Minister Rayburn Blackmoore has said the restoration of fiscal integrity to the governance of Dominica is one of the most important achievements of the Roosevelt Skerrit-led administration.

Speaking on Kairi FM’s Heng Programme on Thursday morning, Blackmoore said he recalled a time when Dominica was “just over a cliff, waiting for a little breeze to throw it down”.

He said, “Government’s debt ratio was 131 percent which means we had no money to do anything. We had no money to pay salaries…we could not build roads so we were selling passports like hot bread and doing other things and creating a false impression. There was an illusion that there was money in the country. In fact Dominica was just over a cliff for a little breeze to throw it down”.

He said were it not for the ability of the Dominica Labour Party government to stabilize the country, the country would have sunk.

Blackmoore added that when the United Workers Party was in government (from 1995-2000), they were unable to source funds to pay salaries and resorted to commercial loans, which further plunged the country into deeper debt. He said the then Edison James-led government were not paying social security for civil servants at one time and that under James’ watch, the country could not afford to build an international airport.

Blackmoore added that there has been constant attacks on Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit because his detractors believe that if Skerrit falls, the whole party will crumble, which is not the case.

The minister added that it is time that everyone put their differences aside and unite for the development of the country. He said the electorate voted 18-3 in favour of this government and not 18-3 in favour of the main Opposition party.

Blackmoore also noted that Dominica is doing much better than most Caribbean countries during the recession.

Mr. Blackmoore really thinks ALL Dominicans are dumb stupid. I suggest that before he and the rest of our ministers make statements, they write them down and go over them at list 10 times and if they need help they should seek because they should no that the world is listening and they should not embarrass us. In his statement he has raised several issues and sure sounds babyish. Because of time I would like to respond to one. In comparing the UWP administration to the current Labour Government, he said that UWP ran the country broke and it took the labour party to turn things around and as a result, listen to his foolish point: “Under James’ watch, the country could not afford to build an International Airport.” By the way, I was one who jumped with Labour party to oppose the international airport . How stupidof me! But this of this friends; UWP was only in power for 4.5 yrs and by then they bought land for the International airport. Had we not voted them out, and I say we because I helped to vote them out, no doubt we construction of an airport would have been a reality, although according to Blackmore, the country was broke. Now that we have money according to Blackmoore, and the DLP has been in power for 10 years, why are they not even thinking of an Internationl Airport? What have the done in 10yrs? I know they spent millions on Melvillehall just to accomodate Wynair and their 13 passanger commercial flight that lands here at night. But how will that turn things around for us in DA? Does anyone think that even if Liat joins Wynair and schedules late flight that will turn things around in Dominica? Mr. Blackmoore, under James’ 4.5 year watch we did not get an international airport; did we get one under your 10year administration? Big FOOLS!!

The saddest thing is what we are witnessing now with the state of us, the young ppl of the land. From the looks of it, if all goes well, perhaps in the next ten years, Dominica will be transformed from this degrading country (infrastructurally speaking), to a more modern country. Things are really shaping up in that respect and i like that. The problem in the next ten years does not seem that it would be the infrastructure. We will still have an environment hostile to investment, even if we have hotels, cheaper utilities, international airport etc. The crime rate is destined to soar. Any one walking on any street in Dominica or even taking a look at any of our high schoolers can see it. it is written on the faces of the youth.
There is a sence of helplessness, hopelessness, laziness. If we do not make provisions somewhere in our development plan to address the issue of youth illiteracy, employment etc. then we will be doomed.
It hurts my heart when i see my fellow classmates and almost everyone younger than me living day to day with the only ambition is to take up a joint in the morning and sit on the roadside.

    ***************************BLACKMOORE”S VISIONS OF THE PAST**********************************************

    Please Hon.Blackmoore…….!!!!!!

    Can we look ahead?????

Stop reflecting on the past!!! Can you please tell us where you would like to take us in this country? AND don’t just say you’ll take us to the next level. Please tell us your vision for us in DA!! So far the DFP and UWP has yet to tell us their vision AND certainly DLP still has yet to tell us their vision for DA!! All I hear is …..”the next level” with no real substance on details!!

Instead, you seat here telling people the wrongs of the UWP. Do you realize the election was recently called? Your party won!! If you can remember!! By the way…at one point your party also had problems paying civil servants. It was MAMO who came in and rectified that!! Also, DA under your party rule still can not afford to build an international airport!!

Blackmoore needs to think before he makes these embarassing statement. He needs to understand that although a high percentage of Dominican’s especially his supporters are dumb, deaf, blind and ignorant, we still have educated folks in Dominica. I can raise issue with almost everything he said, but for now, I only want to highlight one of his stupidity. Folks listen to our minister of public works and you will understand why he was a failure to the police force. In comparing the then UWP administration to the now Labour Government, he said in essence that UWP had no money to do anything. He ended by making this idiotic statement “Under James’ watch, the country could not afford to build and international airport.” Listen people, let us not forget the UWP was only in power for 4.5 years and yet the had the vision to build one and went as far as buying land. On the other hand let’s nor forget that this Labour Government is into their tenth year at a time when according to Blackmoore, money is flowing. Then under their watch they should have been far with an International Airport. Doesn’t that make sense? But what have they done? They threw millions of dollars on Melvillehall Airport just to accomodate Wynair and 13 passangers. Wher is the vision? Can this nonesense under their watch pay for itself? Just think man and don’t take us as fools.

I KNOW YOU AND YOU ARE NOT A TOO SMART GUY, SO LISTEN AND LEARN.

2)WHICH AGRICULTURAL CROPS HAVE YOUR GOV’T INVESTED IN?

    3) HOW MANY COLLEGE GRADUATES HAVE YOUR GOV’T EMPLOYED BOTH LOCALLY AND THOSE COMING BACK FROM OVERSEAS?

    4) HAS CIVIL SERVANTS SALARY INCREASED?

    5) HAS THE LIFE OF DOMINICANS AS A WHOLE IMPROVED??

I COULD HAVE GONE ON AND ON BUT THESE ARE SOME OF THE AREAS THAT YOU HAVE HAVE TO TEST YOUR PROGRESS AGAINST BEFORE YOU COME AND MAKE THESE STATEMENTS ON RADIO.

THE LIMUS TEST IS TO PUT YOURSELF IN THE SHOES OF A LOCAL CITIZEN WHO DOES NOT HAVE THE LUXURY OF SKERRIT HAND-OUTS AND THEN YOU CAN COMMENT.

DA is itself unique among the other caribbean islands, most of the others are desert islands that attract the tourists with their beaches. But, DA has the terrain to survive with what will be coming down by the end of next year.

    December 16, 2010

First, I think some people like too many handouts! I’m not into politics, but I think a lot of people get comfortable. They think that having a college degree means automatic money, automatic jobs. Having a college degree helps a lot, but you have to get up and try. Get up and look for the opportunities. Don’t sit home and say God is good and apply for one job thinking that you’re going to get it because you went to college. God helps those who helps themselves. Then, all the politicians I see are corrupted! ALL!! Not just Skerit, not just labor but all of them. I don’t see any politicians yet that want Dominica’s best interest at heart. It’s all about money and power to them. If skerit go out it’s not going to get better and you people know it. I don’t see the opposition talking about ways to improve, I only see ways to bring down. I barely see what the current government is doing. All they’re doing is fighting amongst each other, throwing words like a bunch of high schoolers.

What is needed here as well as worldwide are individuals that are selfless and whose first priority is to serve the people, ensure freedom and democracy and maintain a balanced budget. To also lower taxes, get rid of VAT and making an atmosphere where business’ can thrive while at the same time keeping a handle on pollution and overgrowth.

My friend Chinese are taking over all over, not only in Dominica. What I see with the chinese, they see an opportunity and they take it. It could be a restaurant, nails, or even hotels, they get together with an idea, and they move from there with their idea, and it seems to be working. No only in Dominica, but in the USA, areas that are Afro-American, the chinese come in that community and do the same thing.

We need to learn a lesson from that, get together as a community (County) and see how can we build our own country, instead of having someone from outside come in and do it. Before you know it they will be rich with the same money Dominicans think that they don’t have. But instead the chinese will get rich over them.

Dominica is doing MUCH BETTER than most Caribbean countries during the recession. I understand the need to hi-light some of your accomplishments especially during these days where there are a barrage of accusations levelled against your government, but be careful with your exaggerations. Remember we may be more enlightened than you are…we are not as gullible as you might think.

If DA is doing so good why isn’t the reverse happening, where Dominicans are fleeing Dominica for their fellow Caribbean countries. Am not aware of people flocking to DA looking for opportunities. Again your effort is noted but we know an exaggeration even as subtle as it may seem.

Dominica’s economy is a pansy scheme just like Bernie Maddoff Pansy scheme, begging one dictator to pay the other dictator. If anyone believes that a country can sustain itself by not producing anything, just taking loans, producing bogus reports to show progress and the bottom will not eventually drop from under you, it is worse than I thought… You people beg and borrow, take three quarters of the proceeds for yourselves, use one 10th to keep your blind followers happy, use 55 to show that you are doing something. Produce false reports to show progress and you call that good fiscal management… Rayburn dear Skerritt is no Bernie Maddof who took the consequences and did not take anybody down with him. All of you who enjoyed the fruits of the pansy scheme are coming down with Skerritt… You know him better than me, so I don’t have to tell you… Many chairs are going to be broken when the bridge eventually comes crashing down from under the crooks.

“Isla de Aves (Spanish for “Island of Birds”), or Aves Island, is a Caribbean dependency of Venezuela. It has been the subject of numerous territorial disputes between the neighboring independent islands, such as Dominica, and European mother countries of surrounding dependent islands, such as the Netherlands. It lies to the west of the Leeward Islands chain at 15°40′18″N 63°36′59″W. It is 375 m in length and never more than 50 m in width, and rises 4 m above the sea on a calm day. According to the UN Law of the Seas it is classified as a rock, which would only give Venezuela a twelve mile economic zone. However, Venezuela claims it is an island which grants it a 200 mile Exclusive Economic Zone. Mostly sand, a small portion has some scrubby vegetation. It is sometimes completely submerged during hurricanes. It is 115 miles southwest of the closest land, Montserrat, 140 miles west of Dominica and 340 miles north of the Venezuelan mainland.

For some time the island has been in danger of eroding altogether, and Venezuelan authorities are considering ways to protect it, along with the territorial claims to the Caribbean Sea which radiate from Isla Aves. The impact of Hurricane Allen in the 1980 Atlantic hurricane season divided it into two parts, but accretions of coral have subsequently reunited it. On August 17, 2007, the force of Hurricane Dean severely eroded the island.”

Iran Ends Oil Transactions In U.S. Dollars

Why did France commission its agent as Caricom/ECCB/Dominica PM to implement EU policies?
‘A shift by OPEC to the euro would rapidly confront the US with an economic “nightmare scenario.” Major oil importers would need to transfer some of their funds from US dollars reserves—stocks, bonds and other assets—into euro reserves. This would see a sharp fall in the value of the dollar, possibly setting in motion a further withdrawal of funds as investors became nervous over the value of their dollar assets. Suddenly the burgeoning US debt, which at present plays little or no role in day-to-day financial calculations, would become a factor of considerable importance.

In other words, a switch in the financial basis of the oil export market, or a significant part of it, would have major consequences for the global financial position of the US, quite irrespective of whether oil was freely available or the price charged for it. However, if the US were in control of Iraqi supplies, either directly or through a puppet, it would be in a much better position to block any currency shift by the OPEC countries.’

How many wars did France fight to get control of Dominica’s resources (then wood and water)?
    Today:

Geothermal energy: how many islands can Roseau valley can supply?

Nuclear fuel: what provides the energy for the boiling lake and makes Dominica the most active volcanic nation on earth?

Fisheries: how much do french fishers sell 1 blue or Yellow fin tuna for?
‘ BBC News reports that a single bluefin tuna has been sold for the highest price in the past nine years at a Tokyo fish auction. The 232 kilogram (511 pound) fish fetched 16.28 million yen, or a bit over $175,000:
Japan drives the global market for bluefin tuna, eating more of it than any other nation, and while this particular fish was caught in waters off Japan where stocks are not as depleted as they are in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, the price itself and the increase over prices for similar fish last year is significant’

Please!!! How are we doing better with higher unemployment, the death of agriculture, a national debt you all refuse to reveal…where is the better? 2 roads you all build with no D/cans working on them and a Helicopter pad you renovate in Marigot, you call that progress. Dominica does not have an striving economy mR Blackmore. Tell the people what D/ca export for foreign exchange. The DLP has NEVER negotiated any business deal for D/ca. Everthing they have done was given as a gift atthe same time NOT telling the people how they have to pay back –Eg, the MOU, what is in it, tell us! Mr Chavez gave money not because we nogotiated it, he just wanted some scape goat on his side so money is a way to buy a few, that what he did. What has DLP really negotiated for the benefit of D/cans? We don’t mind loans if we get the full benefit of the loan. We don’t mind gifts and grants but please dont sell the soul of the country for a few pennies……IN that case we will take the EU loans and else where…That we will spend with the pepole in progress in mind…DLP has destroy D/ca. All the money and work you all receive has brought a curse to the country…WAtch the type of crimes, the youth are all astray, worst in our history. Evry gvtmnt official is tainted with corruption, morals and values you all have sent to the pits….Our good D/can name in the mud. Even the Bajans are laughing us because we promise them food and fruits and we yet to sent them a lime much less for a plantain….Blackmore u and all the Bandits NEED TO GO!!!

where are the stats for the increase in unemployment? because I know certainly that is not correct. You people need to get a life because there was a published report that dominica is the only one who saw a surplus in 2010 and no one had anything to say about that. Is people like all you that bringing allu own country down.

get a life and appreciate what we have stop complaining and FINALLY you know what!!!

People never appreciate their country until they leave for a few months and see how bad things are in other place they will say BOYYYY I MISSING D/CA WE.appreciate you country and the people that are trying.

Did you say: “national debt you all refuse to reveal?” Did you really understand the “theme” of the news article above? Did you not read the message of a news article a few days ago which says that Dominica has a surplus in its budget for the past fiscal year? Or is it that you do not know what “surplus” means?

Come on you guys think before you write, or do not write anything if you are not sure of what is your mind.
