DLP pledges support for Venezuela’s Maduro

Maduro is facing his biggest challenge since the death of Hugo Chavez

The governing Dominica Labour Party (DLP) has thrown its support behind the president of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, in light of recent protests taking place in that south American country.

“The Dominica Labour Party re-iterates its strong support for the United Socialist Party of (PSUV), its Leader and democratically elected President of Venezuela,” the party said in a declaration on Monday.

The party also said it rejects “the violence experienced by Venezuelan citizens during their peaceful participation in events commemorating the Day of Youth and the battle of La Victoria which left three dead and several injured…”

It is reported on that day, last Wednesday, vigilantes on motorcycles fired into a crowd of protesters, setting off a stampede.

The protest was held to vent frustration over Maduro’s handling of the inflation-plagued Venezuelan economy, worsening crime and human rights concerns.

Both the government and the opposition blame each other for the shooting which set off days of clashes in the streets between protesters and security forces.

The DLP also said there are efforts “by the Right wing Opposition to provoke a violent overthrow of the democratically elected Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”

Meanwhile tension remains high in Venezuela.

On the weekend thousands of pro and anti-government protesters took to the streets in rival demonstrations in Caracas.

Euronews is reporting that in a live television speech Maduro “warned the country’s elite that if it tried to topple the democratically elected government, it could expect an armed response.”

He accused the US of plotting to overthrow him. He expelled three US diplomats in retaliation.

He also called on his supporters to take to the streets to march for peace.

Last week coordinator of ALBA and Dominica’s ambassador to Venezuela, Dr. Philbert Aaron, said Dominica strongly condemns the violence in Venezuela.

He also pledged Dominica’s support for Maduro and Venezuela.

Dominica government always gives support to the wrong side, especially to some criminal organization, or government such as the dictatorship of Venezuela, and the oppressive communist government of Cuba.

While our government supports the oppressive government of Venezuela, the United States have this day kicked out there (3) Venezuelan so called diplomats out of the United States, all due to the immediate events in Venezuela.

What a difference; our small nation of less than seventy thousand people uphold and supports the oppression of the of the poor in Venezuela, the United States with millions of people, and the most powerful nation on earth shows support for the poor in Venezuela, by ordering the diplomats of an unjust dictatorship out of America!

Chavez has failed the people of Venezuela……Maduro is trying to step into his shoes and has failed miserable. Skerrit and the DLP has failed the people of Dominica.
The question is, what exactly is the DLP in support of…? The current labour party and it`s leadership in Dominica is a disgrace and has lost all values and principles of the Labour Party…and is therefore not a reputable, honest people party. Venezuela will have to deal with the mess created by Chavez. Dominica has no pat in this nonsense.

Any leader who nationalize their resources is a target for the international companies whose only interest is making money for themselves. Why is Africa so marginal when they have so much natural wealth.

How can someone support a dictatorship and dictators like Chavez, Maduro …?

Venezuelans need freedom, human rights respect, political opposition, strong private sector, like in any “real” democracies.

    Communism is over !

Once again we see the ungratefulness of Dominicans in full bloom. We have received endless assistance from the Venezuelan Government through Mr. Skeritt. Today, when we should be in full solidarity with the Government, many Dominican appear to want to turn their backs on the Government. This cannot be fair.

    • Francisco Telemaque
      February 19, 2014

Cecil Joseph; I suppose you much prefer to sell your soul to the devil for the crumb the devil throws on the ground and command you to grovel for, and you’d do it gladly; and in return you become so loyal, that you are blinded to the atrocities the people of Venezuela suffers at the hands of the dictators who runs Venezuela.

In the first place, the average man in the street of our country does not travel to Venezuela and beg for anything. It is the government of Dominica, and people like you which crawls on your belly to beg for handouts when you should be doing something productive to create employment for the people of Dominica.

A country cannot develop, and prosper on handouts, and borrowed money which in most case might be used to pay on an outstanding debt.

Again Dominicans does not owe Venezuela any thanks or loyalty for the handouts you people get from them. If the powers that be want to go around the world kissing the feet of every little dictator that suggests some form of diplomatic relationship on paper with Dominica, in return for the left over crumb, and you want to be grateful to them for remnants, that is you prerogative!

However, Dominicans are not ungrateful as you think, what it is that the people are fed up with substandard living, all of our people exist below the poverty level according to Worlds standard, and you are here talking crap about ungrateful; where is your conscience man!

They say you were Mayor of Roseau, somebody correct me if I am wrong, if I am not addressing the of the same, please let me know, but in every country of the world one of the responsibilities of a mayor is to create employment for the people.

Here is an example, you hear about Los Angeles, Hollywood, and Century City, When you look at Los Angeles, the way it is right now, it was not like that, there were no Sky Scrapers, no (LAX) Los Angles International Airport, until the election of a former black police officer, the late Tom Bradley, who vision transformed Los Angeles into what you see today.

Stop lowing steam, if you want to be poppet that is your choice, but yo had an opportunity to do something to help the people and country, you did nothing except called yourself, Mayor, and involve yourself into petty squabbles, with private citizens.

How many foreign business have you attract and brought to Dominica?

Not one, you have no conscience, shut up, just shut up, you had your chance and blew it!

in Venezuela there have been serious electrical failures , food shortages and an overstretched inflation has affected the lives of Venezuelans. According to the Government of the country, it is an orchestrated national and international right to destabilize its management plan. More specifically , it is the opposition party Primero Justicia , linked from the beginning to the most extreme wing of the U.S. Republican Party , who conducts this called ‘ soft coup ‘ to gain control of the largest oil reserves in the world.

To achieve lawlessness and overthrow a president through nonviolent means, the American philosopher Gene Sharp came up with the ‘ soft coup Manual ‘ , which, among other things , in the application of psychological operations and economic boycotts . Submit three stages: protest , noncooperation and intervention. ” The Obama doctrine of indirect intervention , mild stroke , is as hard as Bush preemptive war taught us that after the attack on the Twin Towers ,” insists Menry Fernández , Colonel and coordinator of graduate studies of the Bolivarian University of Venezuela Military .

If they continue demonstrating and rioting they will never win for it destroys a country and lives.
God has more patience with them than they have with others as also their government. They are in dire need of and to practice the godly virtue of patience. It is one of the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit without which they will never obtain earthly and heavenly happiness. They do not practice what Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us: “Be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect.”

Whatever happens, I pray for the speedy solution to this situation. This is the start of a potentially fatal end for the Venezuelans.

To the Gov of Venezuela, I suggest urgent talks be held with the people and find familiar grounds for the country’s progress – with the needs of the VENEZUELAN people at heart – afterall its their country, their hardships, their struggles the same way it can be their development, their progress. Its about THE PEOPLE, not parties nor affiliations or rather it should be.

Do we know this as a FACT?

Rejecting violence the country is having is ok. But let’s not get too involve in other countries domestic political issues!!!

In situations like this, it is best if we stay away from other countries’ “DOMESTIC POLITICS”!!

This party is now an embattled party, whose weaknesses have been exposed to the core, SINCE SOON TO BE PRIME MINISTER Lennox Linton took over as party leader.Corruption in government, leaders who cannot debate, leaders who cannot properly articulate themselves, leaders who disrespect the people, leaders who have been accused of all kinds of nefarious dealings like unaccounted wealth, leaders who have impoverished Dominica, GREEDY LEADERS,and leaders who cannot defend themselves AMIDST A MYRIAD OF ACCUSATIONS.. I support the right of the Venezuelan people to protest. Thanks God we will not have to do so (protest) in Dominica, to DISCARD ARROGANT AND INSULTIVE SKERRIT. It is safe for me to conclude that the DLP is now a socialist party because we have seen the works of the red clinic, housing revolution, government owned abattoire and hotel government development and ownership of geothermal and airline. The list goes on. We boldly show support for a cuban revolution the imprisons its citizens and like all good socialist and dictators blame america.

Now inspite of venezuelas declining economy, increase in crime and threat of violence against civil/ peacfull striff we will support no matter what. Guess we also agree with venez president that america is trying to overthrow them. If our people does not realize it is time for this labour party to go i an afraid we have been brought down a dangerouse path and needs to be stopped next election before it gets any further.

Look at China today and tell me who more capitalist. They claim communism while the polititians and ther friends are wealthy and gaining more everyday. It is People like you that are continued to be fooled thinking you depend on the Gov for everything and they keep information from there citizens to control them. That is the same thing that was done to keep us in slavery. You can go ahead and stay dependent on the Gov and let them dictate to you what you need in the Socialist/communist ideals and remain poor. I will stay in a system that rewards hard work and independent thinking where i can speak out against the evil of a controling Gov and not worry about victimization. I will continue to work hard for what i earn.
So keep fooling yourself about socialism. Look at all the socialist Gov and tell me who are wealthy. Anyone who tries to tell you what you should and should not read or say has only one goal. to control you. Open your mind my friend. Capitalism is not perfect because human sinfullness can come in (greed, selfishness, lust etc) but these sins also exist in non capitalist Governments. So pick your poison

I think you need to be a bit more informed before making this kind of statements….do you consider helping the poor all of the following: if you can not afford an armored vehicle, like all government official and those who can afford it have…there is a very big chance that you are going to get killed to either have your vehicle stolen, your shoes stolen or you can plain and simple be shot for your sun glasses if you dare wear a brand name…is it helping the poor…when you go to a supermarket and you can not buy basic items such as butter, coffee, sugar, toilet paper, etc…..is it helping the poor that the only ones allowed to wear brand name items are government officials since they are the only ones with access to US dollars and to travel freely (we work very hard for our money….but we are not allowed to spend it as we wish!!) buying US $ is illegal….you only have an annual allowance for internet shopping that will not get you more than a pair of shoes and a shirt in a year…IF!!! Is it helping the poor when the only meat you can buy in supermarkets are chicken legs (and I’m not talking about drumsticks)… is it helping the poor to ask them to invade others peoples private property just because they are not presently being occupied? There is a very long list of things that come to my mind. Speak to a Venezuelan and really inform yourself of what is truly going on. Media houses have been threatened that they would be closed if they show all the footage that has been taken of venezuelan armed forces shooting at our young students
