DLP senior official opposed to Labour boycott in Marigot

Assistant General Secretary of the Dominica Labour Party Felix Thomas has described as “a waste of effort” calls for the Marigot constituents to boycott the Dominica Labour Party candidate.

Former Chairman of the Constituency Association of the DLP in Marigot Harold Tyson has called for a boycott of the July 9 by-elections.

He said he and other members of the constituency were not supportive of the DLP candidate Dayton Baptiste.

But Thomas said the DLP has always operated as a solid block, “organised and well structured and there is no reason for such an action”.

Thomas said Tyson’s statements should be ignored and persons should go out and vote in favour of the DLP at the by elections.

“For anyone to call on a boycott is ridiculous. The party has a candidate in place and now Labourites and UWPites should go out and put their mark and support the DLP. They should play a full role of ensuring that the candidate is elected whether it’s their choice of candidate or not.” Thomas said that a vote for Baptiste is a vote for the DLP.

“The people of Marigot should realize that the UWP has disrespected them and taken their vote for granted,” he added.

“They need to ensure that the next time around they will have proper representation in parliament.”

What an interesting statement, i'm starting to wonder if you are part of the opposition forces trying to make it look like there is so much trouble in the labour camp in Marigot. Because somehow you just keep missing the point that it was never DLP who failed you in Marigot, it was your elected member Edison James who failed to make effective representation on your behalf!

I believe Marigot people want change and they will do they have to do to get it! I am no longer going to take on you rantings because you seem to be one mad man who is afraid of change. I am convinvced that you are actually afraid that DLP, through Dayton will bring about the neseccary change needed in Marigot.

sammie, you really do not have a clue about the people of MARIGOT I do believe your type of talk is nonsensical I do not care if you like or dislike MR.JAMES or not we do not vote on personality so your criticism doesn't worth much I also find your explanation very insulting what do you think we are not intelligent enough to make our own decision surprise we know that MR. BAPTIST is not the right person for MARIGOT at this time so giving him a chance what has he accomplished it would be irresponsible for us to vote for him so dont tell us M”GOT people what we should do and it doesnt matter if their is fighting in his camp he would be better off getting to know the people working with them and dont be a puppet on a string .

MARIGOT was there all the time we were always part of DOMINICA so why has it become so important to the DLP, Smmie dont ever try to tell us what we should be doing instead repect our decision just make sure you get rewarded for your efforts.

The CONSTITUTION of DOMINICA is the law of the land.

Well articulated Sammie's Voice. For the past twenty years Edison James demonstrated ineffective representation in Marigot . Marigot people are not happy with the level of disrespect that Mr.James has levied on the Constitution of Dominica after the December 2009 general elections. His poor judgement regarding the boycotting of parliment has depleted the country economically. We should not be having a bye- election on july 9th, 2010.

I will say nothing to you again Sammie – We will take all the actions we have to. TIME WILL PROVE EVERYTHING!!! People like you are only looking for handouts. We do not want Dayton Baptist, he does not have the capacity to lead – Marigot need better representation. Baptist has a psychological problem that he needs to deal with. His lies and deception we as educated and wise people will never accept him. The only reason why they take Dayton over the others is only because he is gullible. Eddison Jame has done his time and he must move on, get out of the way and understand that Marigot was not left there to him by his parents. You Sammie, when last have you been to Marigot? Do you know Dayton? If you get to know him you must have regrets at the end. Do you know that party officials has agreed the Mr. Baptist does not have what it takes for this thing. I will forever standout with Mr. Tyson and all the others of Marigot who will not vote at that by-election. Have you had a talk with these party officils to have this conviction like me to talk the way I do? I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. WE MUST BE TRUEFUL ALWAY!!! Stop fool people!!!

doctor you a so right and that's why we the people of MARIGOT have to say enough is enough no more handouts and we are not going to vote for the DLP, President, Speaker of the House, or PM because they are distroying the CONSTITUTION of DOMINICA because we are going to hell in a basket.

I’ve been looking out for your response hoping that you would take a more thoughtful, less angered approach to this discussion. First off, if this discussion is only for Marigot people to comment on then I would suggest that you bring your concerns and voice it only to people from Marigot. However, Tyson openly voiced his concerns, and this news release is open for all to see, read and comment on. So please stop with your nonsensical talk of I’m not from Marigot. I am Dominican and I want what is best for each constituency in Dominica, so I have nothing to be ashamed of.

Secondly your statements “we will in time set up our own government to channel our way through.” REALLY? Does that even make sense to you? Are you really thinking rationally? Have you even understood the situation at hand and why there is a need for by-elections? Are you prepared to wait another 10 or 20 years for change and development to come to your constituency (or well until you form your own government)? Right now Marigot has been given an alternative, an opportunity where you all can vote for change, and you’re suggesting that people should not vote?

I also went back and looked at the reason you gave for not supporting Mr. Baptist because I want to be fair. But one could argue that the mere fact Mr. Baptist took the initiative and opened an office, or started organizing transportation for activities indicates that he is one who takes the lead and does not depend on other to do that for him, which is what you should want from a leader! Your excuses are really just petty! And maybe you need to start reasoning things out in a different way.

The PM and his boys think that they can go around with their big stick and do what they want with us in Marigot but the time will come when we will revolt. We are not those who idolize politicians in any cultish fashion. We do not take bribes nor handouts and defending politicians. Look at the PM and his boys now smiling quietly to themselves saying “… we got all the fools in town on our side” – I am not a part of it and will never be a part.
Felix Thomas and all the others who are talking, I have never seen those people come to Marigot. The only reason they pass through is because of the Airport other than that they would not even look at Marigot. All my years with the DLP is the first time those men came to Marigot with their guns and order the DLP to surrender to Baptist – like him or not. They think they had their way but we know what we know – come the 9th they will get the message.
We are asking the people of Marigot to stay at their homes and do not go out to the polls. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!

Sammie- Are you from Marigot? And I know you are not. Marigot people do not talk like you. Marigot people do not reason the way you do. Please step aside – we will in time set up our own government to channel our way through. Again, can I remind you that we know what we want. Shame on you Sammie!!! SHAME!!! Have a nice day.

  12. Sammie's voice of reason
    June 26, 2010

Doc it’s so sad that you decided to respond in such a foolish way. I have to ask though is Margiot a country on its own? To my knowledge it is part of Dominica and what concerns one area may have significant effects on the lives of the people throughout the whole country. So I don't really care what party you’ve supported your whole life, the bottom line is the elected representative was Edison and not Baptist, and it was your elected representative who failed you!

Edison has been representing the area for years and still very little was done, he has not listened to your concerns, and went further to not go into the house to make representation on your behalf after the last election. So exactly what will you achieve if the people who want change boycott the elections? Are you and others prepared to accept what ever comes with Edison if you boycott the elections?

The thing with us Dominicans is that we like to lift people up so quickly and then throw them down as soon as we get the chance. So I will maintain that Mr. Baptist should be given the chance as your elected member and if he does not perform only then can you hold him, the party and the government accountable. Only after the elections if he does win can you say that he is not performing as your elected representative.

From what has been said the problem with Marigot DLP members seems to be about personalities (differences in personalities) the focus for the coming election should be about ensuring you select a representative and a party that can perform and bring about the necessary change in Marigot! Do not make it a personal battle, at least not until you give the man a chance to prove himself. The outcome of the elections is more that just one person; it should be more than just anyone’s personal problems with Baptist.

And about the ‘momo’ comment- have you ever heard the proverb ‘empty vessels make the most noise’? Edison is a living example of that! A loud mouth, but ineffective leadership and representation. Sadly based on your statements this is what you have grown accustom to and now it may be difficult for you to appreciate the value of a soft spirited person or someone who is quiet by nature. The ‘momo’ might just be the one who will bring change to your constituency my dear!

We in Marigot are fed-up with people like you who is not from Marigot – a true and rightful person from Marigot do not talk like you so please keep away from us. We do not want Dayton or Eddison. We damn well know who and what we want. And we will soon go to the streets if the PM and his boys do not want to give us what is rightfully ours.

Marigot have been in problems for the past 10yrs and counting and they have refused to get change for such a large community….cant believe that they wld even listen to someone like Eddison much less for Tyson not one of them have ever done any thing good for marigot and year by year marigot's quality have loss it taste….it is time for a change, something that have been long over due…so all those who does nt care for change leave those who want alone to have their change….EDDISON and TYSON stay d hell away….its our political right to choose who we want and that stupidness about boycotting election has grown old and weary….marigot people time to wise up

“They should play a full role of ensuring that the candidate is elected whether it’s their choice of candidate or not.” Thomas said that a vote for Baptiste is a vote for the DLP. This statement is laughable but even more it is relective of the level of disrespect that Felix and the laborites have been giving to us in Marigot. Yes, we are like animals you put your left overs in a dish and place it infront of us and we must just eat it because we a hungry and we cannot find food for ourselves. Well Felix you see Marigot has never been that way, we don't operate like that, we think, we reason, we lead not follow, get that through your thick skull. Maybe that's how the folks in your constituency behave, they shut their eyes and vote for a man who has been fired three times, they shut their eyes and vote for a man who went in search for a bogus bank oh by the way we understand that its that same same man who encouraged your proposed Marigot candidate to come home to contest the elections so you have to encourage people to vote for him. but my friend ah no so yea go a Marigot kip you farwordness to uself noh tel awe who fu vote fa a Marigot. We will be voting intelligently for someone who can advise us, guide us and speak on our behalf as opposed to someone who has to be told what to say and when to say it.

If not Mr. Baptist then who? This is the question that we should be asking? Were the people able to provide an appropriate alternative that everyone agrees on? Moreso not everyone is in agreement with the statements that Tyson made. Asking people to boycott the elections is taking the same foolish step and making the same foolish mistake that the UWP made. The people of Marigot need to realize that the person who failed them was the representative that the majority elected in December…. EDDISON JAMES!

There is now an opportunity for change where you can cast a vote for someone who represents the Government who will be able to make direct representation for you in and out of parliament and you’ll crying boycott? Do the people of Marigot really know what they want? Think about that.

Well It seems that the people are not being listened to in that they are not allowed the freedom to choose a candidate that they feel comfortable with. Why is it that we must be forced to simply pick the best of the worst? why not give us a chance to select from the best of the best?(according to the criteria the PEOPLE set) not the blind red candidate who is simply appointed for being one of the boys…
