DLP sets eye on Roslyn Paul for Paix Bouche

Paul is being tipped to represent the DLP in Paix Bouche

Dominica News Online can confirm that Operations Manager at the Waitukubuli National Trail Management Unit, Roselyn Paul, is at the top of the list as the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) candidate in the Paix Bouche constituency for the upcoming general election.

Matthew Walter, the outgoing parliamentary representative in an interview with state-owned DBS Radio, stopped short of revealing that Paul would replace him but gave every indication to that effect saying, “she is a community person, very involved in culture and very soon her name will be released.”

When contacted, Paul a former school teacher with over 30 years experience in the public service, refused to confirm or deny that she would be the candidate.

“At this time, I cannot give any information…when and if I am able to do so then I will,” she said. “I am a public servant…maybe in the future but right now, I am not saying anything. I will not confirm or deny.”

A research into Paul’s profile and qualifications revealed that she spent 18 years as a teacher at the Paix Bouche Primary School. She then moved to the Women’s Bureau where she worked from 2000-08 as Programme Research and Development Coordinator.

Paul has also pursued studies overseas and is the holder of an MSC in rural development; she also holds a diploma in social work and management and is presently attached to the National Trail project.

She is also a founding member of the 30-year-old Paux Bouche Cultural Group and is said to have contributed significantly to the development of culture in that community.

DLP officials are not confirming or denying that Paul will be the candidate but said, “the announcement will be made soon and you will get that when it becomes available.”

If Paul is confirmed, it means there will be an all woman’s race in that constituency since the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) has released the name of female attorney, Eunica Anthony-Victor, to contest on its behalf.

The Paix Bouche constituency consists of the communities of Paix Bouche, Anse de Mai, Calibishie and Hampstead.

The” Wire Playing Field” is less than 1/4 a mile from where Roselyn’s house is and she knows that playing field has been abandoned by Matthew and Skerrit, and you mean to tell me she has the guts to run for Skerrit. Her decision tells me that she is not a person of principle and will not put people first. How does a person call people greedy, selfish, corrupt, child and many more names and less than two years later joining that same team? DNO please give us a chance to voice out our concerns as we continue to scrutinize those that intend to lead us.

Let me congratulate my friend , Roselyn Paul. I know her to be a very nice person but I am very surprised that she agreed to run with Skerrit. Can I trust politicians boy? The fact of the matter is, although Roselyn is going up in a labor strong hold, the fact that Matthew Walter served the Paix Bouche Constituency for 20yrs and 14 years of those years were while the DLP was in office, and has nothing to point to as achievement in the constituency, has me to question her motive. In fact Matthews best term was when UWP was in power as they were working all over the country. If Roselyn, who was a good friend of Matthew and was known long time ago as Skerrit’s choice to replace Matthew, and yet she could not bridge the gap between Skerrit and Matthew for the sake of the people, why should anyone expect her to get Skerrit to do anything for the people of Paix Bouche?

SKerit step to the plate as a junior politition with no experience at all while the others stood by and wait for him to crumble, because it was going to be the blame game and finger pointing. He made ith through. So why cant we say thank you.

guys this thing isn’t about who is qualified to represent the constituencies it doesn’t matter who the candidate is. the situation we in at this time in Dominica we need to think about good life for everyone not good life for the PM only. so lets put someone who will work for everyone that we all can experience what good life is. The country should have a separate person as minister of Finance not skerrit that’s where all the stealing going on and when that happens one man is getting good life ,no one knows how much money we receive so he takes what he wants. skerrit is setting up Dominica for a disaster and we all going to be in it, I don’t mind labor in power my concern is the person and the things he is doing. I don’t think the labor party in itself is a bad party the problem is the man

Roselyn is too new in the business to start with the same kind of campaigning the labour party does. Like, meeting young people and asking them “What do you want”? She should be asking what would they like her to do for the country or the village. Not if you want plywood or money or a house that may never come through.

Before I vote for a candidate I usually go beyond their impressive profile and and look into their private life to see if their life leaves me with questions. For example,
    1. I look at their moral life to see if I can trust them
2.I look at their reputation to see if they were ever involved in any social group and if money ever disappeared under their watch.
    3. I look at their financial history to see if they have financial need and are likely to compromise to get their debts paid
    4. I look at the team they are teaming up with. “Show me a thief and I will show you a liar” were the word of my mother to us.

Very pleasant lady and decent candidate. Known Ms. Paul and her work in paix bouche culture. In a different era i would say my choice btw the two candidates would be hard. But in this day i will go with eunica.
Here is why: the labour party has been representing the constituency for over 14 years and there is no question on the failure of the representative. It is partly because he has lost his focus and partly because he was made ineffective by an insecure autocratic leader.
After 14 years i have not seen anything substantial that allow young people to earn a future. I know folks working gov jobs for 20 yrs and cannot purchase property and build a decent home. Our arable land and fishing resources are under developed and not utilized. A huge hotel was built in anse de mai and not once i have heard the minister encourage locals in setting up cooperatives and aggrements to supply seafood , fruits, vegetables juices and other items that could generate income and growth and how we can tie in the hotel to allow locals to provide tours for scuba, fishing, and the list goes on.
the labour party has yet to task the douglas family to develop the vast resources they have. Out of the top 10 black sand beaches in the caribbean Dominica has 5, two of which is in hampstead. All i hear is robbery and rape at batibou.
After 14 years its time for new direction. Roselyn you are a great dominican and paix bouche native but i do not see a bright future with the labour party. We need new ideas by many heads not by one.
