Officials of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) in Marigot say they have started putting measures in place to make sure the party wins the constituency in the next general election.
The Marigot constituency is presently held by Political Leader of the Opposition, United Workers Party (UWP), Edison James.
A release from the Chairman of the DLP Marigot Constituency Association, Aurelius Gordon, said the association will be highlighting some of the projects implemented by the party in Marigot recently and has thrown its full support behind Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit.
“We do pledge our solid support for our government headed by our dynamic and beloved party leader Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit,” the release said. “The Marigot Constituency was once represented by Hon. Wills S. Stevens, a founding member of the Dominica Labour Party who is the Father of Marigot’s development.”
The association said it intends to highlight 11 projects which were implemented by the DLP. Some of them include, the Melville Hall Airport Rehabilitation and night landing project, major road development project from Melville Hall to Canefield, the Melville Hall Fire Station Project, the North East and Concord Water Development Project, the completion of the North East Comprehensive School Project, the ‘Yes We Care’ program in Marigot, among others.
“We therefore pledge to do everything possible to, once again, return the Marigot Constituency to Labour,” the release noted.
But James appeared unfazed by the DLP’s intention to send him packing. When contacted by DNO he only said that if he was the one writing the release, he would have added “we pledge to ensure in the shortest possible time that everyone in Marigot, including teachers, can afford to put electricity in their homes.”
“And that is my response,” he said.
You guys go ahead and laugh but understand this – winning that constituency is not only dependent on uwp votes. You forget La Plaine?
DLP has unlimited funds and zero conscience. Also, Labourites and freedomites just dont care what Skerrit does leaving the arena wide open for Skerrit to do whatever he wants including illegal, unethical and immoral strategies.
DLP must win Marigot to ensure once and for all, the death of opposition in Dominica. That and the complete demoralization of Dominicans providing years and years of wide open spaces for DLP to suck this island dry like the blood sucking disease-ridden vampires that they are.

I am fed up because We uwp are not ready. Its like a fluke party of 1995 but trust me Dominicans don’t like UWP nor its current leadership at all. I am so very proud of one of the brainiest Marigoian to get fully involved in Labour Pary in Dominica and Marigot. Mr. Aurelius Gordon is a brilliant man with a heart for the poor. he has molded so many young people and is not egotistical nor self centred nor arrogant nor thin-skinned. he taught many of our kids and has made a tremendous difference to the lives of many. So many parl reps are into politics to fill up their bank accounts but Mr. Gordon is about helping the porr out of poverty especially by enlightening them with proper education. So many kids have gone overseas to study thanks to the foundation provided for them by Sir With Love Aurelius Gordon.
I am with you all the way and so many calls are being made al over marigot about the great stance/decision you have taken to become part of the developmental team. Being from Marigot and knowing this region for the past 5 decades, it is interesting that the current government fail to see the arrogance in their approach.
Their orientation assumes that the average ‘Marigotian’ [non-pejorative] cannot decipher their disdain for a generally brilliant sector of the Dominican Electorate.
NONE OF THE “DEVELOPMENTS” listed has direct benefit to the community. As a consequence of the gravest error (failure to carry through with greater Air Access) perpetuated on the Dominican Populace, DLP had no alternative but to develop Melville Hall. The Fire Station, Road Project etc are all part of the package and have little to do with Marigot. It has everything to do with a meager attempt to correct an almost irreversible, non-recoverable error in judgement.
I have been in the island yearly for the past several years and contribute the economy (throug direct employment) despite being away from the island.
Here are some key Questions that DLP and their supporters need to answer about MARIGOT:
1) Why are the village (Marigot) roads and, more importantly, the Feeder roads in such disrepair”?
2) Why are the sidewalks overgrown?
3) Where is the Welcome mat for Foreigners and returning Dominicans who arrive via Melville Hall Airport? The unappealing shacks that Visitors encounter once traversing the Melville Hall bridge are a disgrace!!
4) If they are committed to Education, explain the education failure in the largest North Eastern community and the North East (in general)?
5) Why are individuals occupying ‘Government of Dominica’ land at Londonderry and areas previously purchased by the Government of Dominica?
6) Why do visitor feel “Unsafe” in beaches that we enjoyed as children? Is it because the current administration and their most ardent supporters have benefits from being in power while the rest of the island languishes into oblivion?
BTW there are no significant means of Foreign Exchange in Dominica, yet government ministers and their supporters seem to be doing just fine.
Marigot generated 10s of Millions of Dollars in Foreign Exchange for the Island in the 60s-80s!! How is the government planning to restore this great community? Road to “Elswhere” won’t achieve this.
One final Comment: The Marigot hospital is in a Deplorable State. This is an area that could experience significant Trauma. Yet, these brillant DLP intellectuals did not envision that, like the Fire Station, the Marigot Hospital should been part of Airport Development.

I heard the talk on the grounds and there is even more to come. Its evident that there is a ground swell amongst the youth and young intelligentsia in this Constituency and also the elderly who are returning to Stevens Party.
Gordon is no nonsense and is embarrassingly bright and thoroughly influential and competent. He will cause the tide to turn in DLP’s favour in Marigot come the next election.

I know the issue is not about her, but she is a member of the ruling government, however, you Sir, Wesleyman and Wesley has not gained anything from her representing our village, but you are certain in James short tenure, Wesley was about to benefit big time.
Note: my comments here is not an indication that I am for one political party or the other, but sometimes one have to become the equalizer when balance is tipping too far in a bias way!

Jaso I think Mr.james loves Marigot and Dominica I really do think he does. Maybe if the party was just made up of him alone it would be a different story. Today, UWP has no backbone or solid foundation; since they(his party members) disrespected him in so many ways.They made a member leader who had to run from Dominica among other things.Members of the UWP could not even see his worth. In addition Edo’s time has been completed 15 years ago. Marigot need young vision to seriously a-line us with what’s going on in the world today and as a matter of fact the rest of Dominica and so we need a person who understands that and can line us up again. Sounds likes Aurelius does not even know what he talking about. BUt I have to say let the projects begin. I do not think that the people of Marigot will refuse those projects at all. So If Aurelius going to let the Melville Hall Road project and the NEC fool him, then he is on his own. Marigot people need to run after Aurelius in their yard.
One thing I do know, Marigot people are one of the hardest working people in Dominica. I remember UWP days when bananas were booming, the people from Marigot put their hands in the soil and planted, reaped and sold. I had never seen more new pickups on the road from the north, houses were built and children went off to study in grand style.
If DLP has an agenda to empower then I would say, at least let’s hear the plans, but do not come with your under house economics of giving a man a fish for a day. The people of Marigot do not need handouts.
The DLP has failed the people of Marigot and by extension Dominica miserable and they MUST be voted out of office come next election.
We need people who put M’got Village and other Villages before personal ambitions notthose who believe they know what is good for them
M’got folks like doing the right thing they need better educational systems, sport field, road to their garden one of the things that they do very much they need a community centre, they need the housing situation resolved a hospital in full swing that covers the village and those around, proper water system we talk about night landing that is not the answer for bringing tourist into the Island we need a better airport, what about the selling of passport and what is the money used for does M’got have any project that part of the money paid for ect
M’got is a village that knows and refused to stand for corruption of any type why would they want to change now and even if Mr.James wasnt running it still wouldnt be the DLP candidate so Mr.Gorden you have to clean house before you come to the people and ask for their vote your party have contempt for M’got and you know that see all the educated folks in Govt is from M’got and is the banana industry that send us to school.
I just ask others to respect you and your party dont get into personal act stick to the facts but I will tell you you will have a difficult battle to win, by the way we had a man in M’got who used to say vote for everything else but dont forget what is best for M’got and the whole Island.
