Dominica needs a “massive cleanup” – Ron Green

Ron Green

Political Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Ron Green has called for a massive cleanup of what he said is a high level of corruption in the country.

Green told the 7th session of the People’s Parliament in Bataca last week, that the level of crime in Dominica is the highest in the country’s history.

“It is clear that a massive cleanup is needed in Dominica now. I am not talking about the drains and roadsides, I am not talking about that… I am talking about our country Dominica. A massive cleanup that we need now.

“When we look at the level of corruption, dishonesty and manipulation we must demand a massive cleanup. It must be undertaken…we cannot expect others to do it for us… we need to do it,”  Green said.

The UWP leader said he is also concerned that the electoral list has not been cleaned since the 2005 general election.

“Despite all of the struggles since 2005 for electoral reform, there have been zero achievements in regards to fully cleansing the electoral list. There are still no improvements to ensure that there is fair access to the state media and ensuring that our bribery laws are adhered to,” he said.

The silence of the opposition and the detruction of its institutions lead Haiti to where it is today. Ron yyou are doing what is required to save Dominica from this dictator. Some day Dominca will thank you for your role as avoice for the country. We have seen the next level and all we see is increasing crime and poverty.

Mr Green, a good leader lead by example. UWP was in power for four and a half years, why didn’t you all clean out the electoral list? Instead you all called an early election with an outdated list. Who were the agents responsible for selling Dominican passports. You cant indulge in corrupt practices when in power and champion the cause in opposition. Use another strategy. You are smarter than that.

This guy (Ron) sounds more and more like a fool each day that passes. UWP is starting to get more desparate in their attempt to obtain power, This country does not need all these devisive politics that is being preached by both parties.

Start attacking bad policies, corruption – proven corruption not say so, UWP must start being constructive in their attacks – they need to show us that they are a viable alternative to the DLP. So far they have not shown it. All I hear is petty politics and dramatics – eg. Edison’s claim of assassination attempt. What a load of crap. Funny though.

The majority of the comments here clearly indicates why we are where we are today. I thought Ron would have gotten a cool wosh, but he got much more than that, for what? For simply speaking the truth.

All you think it is easy to run politics in this country with these milionaires. I mean I am not saying that the opposition is giving their best shot, but they deserve some credit for trying against all odds.

We are the ones that have to assist in making a difference. We are not seeing the opposition party on the streets in Egypt, Egyptians themselves have taken things into their own hands, because they recognize that change can only be realized through them.

We need to learn something from that….

Are you calling on Dominicans to revolt like the Egyptians? Typical of all you people. Just a bunch of copycats. Why can’t you come up with some good ideas on how to uplift the country instead of it’s destruction. Did you ever think of the people and what would happen to them if this really comes to pass? I know for sure this would be the end of our beautiful island.
Some people may protest peacefully but the lawless ones will be hell bent on destruction.
Tell me, who is going to pick up the tabs? Is it going to be the tax payers from other countries who had nothing to do with it?

We must learn to think before we speak because some people hang on to our every word. Especially those they know will cause trouble and confusion. Pray for Dominica instead, we cannot afford another uprising like 1979.

      • -------------hmmm!
        February 11, 2011

100% Dominican I agree. Anyone who wants to subject there country to the kind of protests that going on in Egypt doesn’t want anything good for the country. Revolting will cause more harm than done

It is interesting that all the people deriding Ron have yet to refute Ron’s claim. Instead all we see is a barrage of personal attack. What despicable behavior from those who seek to disguise the truth. Note these are very same people who stated that the UWP while in power needed a cleansing. I must admit that I also resented and still resent their behavior but for the love of my country the very same dishonesty displayed by the then UWP government is now taken to a higher level. As one person said we need a new generation of political leaders however I am afraid that the widespread tolerance for corruption is so embedded in our society that I reluctant to believe that there is a new generation of politicians who can be honest and sincere. After all we thought that we had a young and honest PM. Without getting into garbage bin,Villas, Land deals chorus we can easily agree on the many other lies told by the PM. All of which are considered insults to us Dominicans. I considere those lies an abuse of power and malicious intent to deceive and mislead Dominicans.

      Hot Dog,
Pray tell of all the wrong doing of UWP while they were in office.
You were taken in with astaphan lies then and rather than admitting that now you still have to get your “I must admit that I also resented and still resent their behavior”.
There is no truth in your words now about love of country because as a believer of astaphan then you should still be asking him now WHERE IS THE PROOF OF UWP’S CORRUPTION WE PAID YOU SO HANSOMLY TO REVEAL.
Its now eleven years now and still no answer.

        February 1, 2011

Nac I wish I had an answer for you . I really dont understand what you are saying. You have your thoughts and ideas twisted.
nevertheless I tried to make some sense out of the non sense that you presented and I must say that you are no different than the ignorant laborites who are out there defending corruption. Like the laborites you are asking for evidence. My answer to you is ‘ the writting is on the wall”. It is so for the DLP and was the same for the UWP. Remember Shine Union and all the breaking ground fiasco; jobs for the boys. Like i said and hold Skerrit and company have taken this corruption to a higher level.
I dont put water in my wine because I buy my own wine. I dont depend on politicians to eat or drink. As such I call it as i see it.

” Political Leader of the United Workers Party (UWP) Ron Green has called for a massive cleanup of what he said is a high level of corruption in the country”

Who is Ron Green talking to?

    Ron you no audience!

Because if your incompetence, you single handedly killed what was left of the UWP, by babbling about how corrupt Dominica, and the members of the labor party are. Corruption did not creep into Dominica yesterday, so why didn’t you stop it in its growth whiles you were a minister of government.

I was born an infant, I had to grow into an adult, if you did not want me to be here right now giving hell, you should have stop me when I was powerless to criticize you. Now that I am a full grown man, you are powerless to control me, and no matter how much you talk about me that will not change anything!

You go from one extreme to the other everyday, one day you talk about the death of democracy in the country, and you are going to reincarnate democracy, discovering that you have failed in shucking democracy back to life, you now want to clean up corruption.

Are you not tired man, talking to yourself, nobody is listen to you nor are we interesting in looking at those old shirts you continue to ware from the 1900’s, man we are in 2011, the last time I bought a colorless shirt, was in 1981, all of your shirts are outdated, spend some time and get a new wardrobe.

Let go of the UWP to Spags, and other young people, you are bad news:

    Go home Ron; go home!

    Hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahah.

Old timer you are finished, I say your days are done, clear the way, and let Spags walk!

Mr green maybe tired but we should not disregard the message. While we seat by and blast Ron our country is being hijacked by a few people – Tony, the Bajan Hartley and Skerro. If the administration is clean then ask the PM to tell us what happened to the Layou River partnership and why cabinet to include the AG were not involved in the Layou river Hotel deal. The country did not vote for a bajan, nor Tony Astaphan. Yet these guys are making decisions for us. The sad thing is Dominicans are fully aware of that yet we choose to ignore the glaring facts.

Ron clean up your act if you really want your party to mean anything to the vast majority of the Dominican electorate. Three electoral defeats in succession (2000, 2005, 2009) says alot about the dirt and grime that is clearly evident in the UWP.

Start cleaning up by employing new strategies. The constant bashing of one man has not delivered the hearts and minds of the Dominican public to you. it was not so in 2005 and was certainly scandalous in 2009. Change or rather clean-up your mouth pieces. Rather than so love and peace to win people they are spewing a gospel of hate and divisiveness. They are in effective. Rather than draw people to your party they are distanting the VAST MAJORITY yes the VAST MAJORITY of the Dominican people. Yes you have a group that is very vocal, combative and have easy access to a certain media house and they make beleive as though they are talking for the masses. They are really talking for and to themselves and party stalwarts. Where it matters most they are literally and practically inconsequential Ron clean up your act today or forever hold your peace. You are and were not at the time speaking to those who matters most. You were actually speaking to your pary faithful. Isn’t it time that you clean up the “PEOPLE’S PARLIAMENT”. Have you seen any meaningful impact from these forums? Have it added to your numbers? Rethink this strategy as well and clean it up too. That would suit your prupose well.
