Dominica opposition politicians meet with OECS leaders

UWP Leader Ron Green (left) and DFP Leader Judith Pestaina (centre) at the airport in St. Kitts

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, CMC – The leaders of Dominica’s two main opposition parties have held talks with the Prime Ministers of St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines concerning alleged irregularities in the December 18 general elections in their country.

The leader of the main opposition United Workers Party (UWP),Ron Green, and the leader of the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), Judith Pestaina, were part of a three-member delegation from the newly formed Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD) that travelled to St. Kitts seeking an audience with the leaders from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

The OECS leaders were here to sign a treaty to establish an Economic Union among the nine-member sub regional grouping.

Green and Pestaina said they met with Prime Minister Stephenson King of St. Lucia and his St. Vincent and the Grenadines counterpart, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves.

Green told reporters that the election which the ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP) won by a convincing 18-3 margin should be declared null and void based on a number of irregularities including the payment given to more than 4,000 Dominicans residing overseas to come home to vote in the election.

“First, their travel was paid and second their expenses, money was put in their pockets to come to Dominica,” he told reporters.

He said that many of those Dominicans had arrived on the day of the elections “voted and left the next day”.

He said the police in some instances provide security for those overseas Dominicans.

“Gross abuse of the democratic process and that is why we say the elections were fraudulent and for all practical purposes we can say the elections in Dominica on the 18th of December 2009 were bought”.

The UWP has said that its members would boycott the new parliament as part of their protest against the results of the election that was monitored by observer teams from the Organisation of American States (OAS) and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

Both the OAS and the CARICOM Observer Teams have said they were pleased with the conduct of the polls, with the OAS saying “the environment in which citizens exercised their franchise was peaceful and without incident.

“There were no reported instances of intimidation of voters or any other serious irregularities,’ the OAS said, while the CARICOM team noted “the process was transparent and the secrecy of the ballot was respected.

“The Mission believes that the outcome of the election was a true reflection of the will of the people,” the CARICOM Observer Team added.

But the DFP leader told reporters that she did not share the position of the observer teams and also indicated that her party, which failed to win a seat in the last two general elections, was now in the process of rebuilding.

“We had to put our foot in the door and we really did not expect to win,” she told reporters, adding that the main supporters of the party had drifted to the camps of the two main political parties there over the years.

“So we went into this thing with our eyes open,” she added.

The MRD said that the new poll should be held within 18 months under new terms and conditions that include an updated voter registration and the implementation of voter identification cards.

@ hj…….The voice of the ppl is the voice of God….I guess you forgot when the voice of God’s ppl the Israelite demanded a king they could see and God hearing the cry of rejection of him, he went ahead and gave them a king they could see….did you know what happened????????????? They went under so much tribulation that they went back to God begging to remove the king they had wanted. So before we go about saying the voice of the ppl is the voice of God, we need to remember sometimes we get what we ask for to be taught a lesson, God allows things to happen as we all tend to think we know best. God allowed us to see how …..but responded saying ‘his good out weighs his bad’, ‘we all lie so what the deal’ we made all sorts of excuses to polish it out and still wanted him so lets wait and see if ‘the voice of the ppl is the voice of God’ and not a repetition of when the Israelite demanded a king they could see.

NB I am not comparing UWP to our all ALMIGHT….just illustrating that its not all the time that the voice of the ppl is the voice of GOD

it seems to me that most of the times it is the uwp supporters using this blog to post their unintelligent comments. We need to accept the fact that labour has won the elections. the voice of the people is the voice of God. Instead of criticizing let us come together to work towards a better dominca. I came down to vote on the 18th nobody bought a ticket for me and no money was put in my pocket.

Lord, please guide our people. The 17th of September edition of The Chronicle editorial, says it clearly, “that God step back and examine the hearts and minds of those who are calling the name of God as a political weapon”. Our people must be honest to the things that are happening around us. Do we sit and just accept hand-outs from our presidential style government, or a people who are willing and ready to work hard in developing our country? Where are the industries to sustain our economy? Why are we a sole dependant grants’ economy? Remember our private sector was once owned by locals? Today, it’s a lot of dumping taking place in our country from China. This is due to our lack of vision by this government.

Brothers and sisters, be honest to your selves, we know that the election was not “free and fair” despite what we heard from the so called observers. Now, some people are rejoicing with a stollen election, but let’s wait and see. I strongly believe that the people who are benefiting directly would kill to ensure that their benifits continue by keeping this kind of government in office. It should be country first. Remember, that every goverment must and will continue to do structural work and meet the country’s social needs.

If our God fairing peopel and those with a honest heart stand up for this country by coming togeather to ensure that this prsidential style government be in check , are going to be in serious trouble. This leader is very authoritative and we see many examples in the African countries how these kind of leaders keep their people (depending on handouts), that is going to keep this country very poor. We are after Haiti in the caribbean and we will get worse if we continue that trend.

NO VISON AND OUR COUNTRY WILL PERISH

God, please guide this country, Dominica

Why did the opposition parties took part in an election they knew was illegal or had irregularities?
Is Mrs Pestina saying that the few votes her party receive was illegal because they did not have ID?

DLP presented their plan to move the country forward while UWP and DFP focussed more on corruption, DLP fulfilled their promises in their last manifesto and have proven to be a reliable government. If Dominicans say they poor, tthe Government must have money to provide jobs and other social services to them therefore DLP is the right pick. All government have corruption even those from ST KITTS and ST VINCENT, UWP,DFP.

We cannot play GOD and say that people are currupt, who are we to judge, lets focus on nation building and move the country forward, the government of dominica is the people of dominica

Poor Dmoinica that beautiful land that God has bless with water and green mountains. Something has gone wrong with the people of this land. Where are our principles, integrity my GOD! I heard the refund for the Bins …. that is coming from a labourite my GOD! what has gone wrong with my people.

We are lost at material things. When adults, who are able to work voting because they want the government to give them a house without toilette what does that say? Our people are lazy, they do not know how to work and achieve. What example is that to our children? Maybe we should tell our children do not go to school, when u ready for a home the government will give u a home, or u can go sell drugs, the … will give u some to sell. Labourites tell you children it is ok to LIE and STEAL, tell you children when they are caught in the act say I am young I made a mistake, I will refund the money, or say is not ur damn business I steal or sell drugs.

SHAME ON US DOMINICANS, we have sold our soul for a stove, ALBA gas, building materials, ask yourselves what can these material things do for our next generation. Shame on the Churches who has fail to speak out on the very foundations of society which is being broken.
The religious leaders are failing the church and if society loses respect for the church u know society is lost and this is the way we heading.

    HELP US LORD.

I am a dominican who lives in America and I must admit that I have been following the developing stories pertaining to and revolving around this last general elections. It has truly been an election that was full of emotions, consequently, there were verbal attacks on some people’s character. There were times that people whom we know are of the educated elite let their emotions take control of them subsequently causing their political demise. The things that polititions say or do make them better or worse; their perception can be enhanced or diminished.
When we analyse the allegation of bringing overseas Dominicans to vote, many of us consider this to be unfair to the point of saying that it was done by the UWP, why can’t the DLP do it? Some others say it was wrong when the UWP did it, therefore it is wrong today. My question to the latter, why didn’t you say it was wrong then? Was it alright because the DLP did not fuss as much but took it as grown people? If the oppsition does not like what transpired, now is the opportune time for meaningful engagement to have this issue resolved once and for all. The introduction of voter I.D is a novel idea and is a step in the right direction but behaving in the way the opposition is doing consequently complicates the process; resorting to such actions and rhetoric lead to political suicide.
There are some of us who ascertain that Dominica is now a one party state. If that was the case, which some of us know it is not, who caused it? Those of you who come to the conclusion it is a one party state, are you telling me and others that if you were running a campaign that you would run it in such a way that the opposing party or parties would win enough seats to be a viable opposition? If the answer is yes, then politics is not for you. What if the DLP had won all 21 seats, would they be blamed for that? My advice to the opposition, UWP in particular, is to be part of meaningful engagement, give praise where it is merited and counter by implementing ways you would do things better. Such actions on your part will be complemented by people respecting you as leaders and one day your trust can be reestablished and maybe you will be given another chance at governing Dominica.
I am somewhat baffled by the actions taken by the UWP to the point of asking who is giving them legal advice? I am not a lawyer but by their actions I do not think that I would want that type of legal representation. There are some people who make the argument that only 30,000 plus people voted from a list of 60,000 plus. Are you telling me that almost everyone on the list has to vote? People can register to vote but decide not to vote on election day. The Atlanta, Gergia mayoral race can be used as an exmple; during the first round of the election less than 30 percent of the registered voters voted – during the second round some analyst thought it would be lesser but it was a little more than 30 percent. For argument sake, (constructive argument) come up with rational ideas because there are people who are smarter than most of us who read and analyse what is printed on DNO. For the good of Dominica, it is imperative that we move forward and to do this we must level the playing field by meaningful engagement.

The Prime Minister or any other Minister to be can come from any Poor persons’ home. We have very inteligent young men and women who come from the poor homes nowadays.

Gone are the days when only a few attended CHS, WHS, DGS, SMA etc, now all can enter Secondary School and College now so don’t fret. Z’enfant tel tel mounde can be a great person tommorow and let us be happy that our young people are being empowered. As Adults let us encourage them not discourage.

The New State of the Art College is coming — Even those grownups can go to College. Be empowered.. They could not afford or the opportunity was not there . Eh Bien MRA take note.

tee tee what is your problem man? UWP was going to win the election and they did not. The election was bought. Why don’t u say something that is honest.

Election and everything was bought including the Pastors, Priests etc . So everything bought.

Soon you will say that someone bought the Heavenly Father too because you seem to forget the Heavenly Father’s role in the whole equation.

The Father is the Supreme Being and the one who brings up and bring down Governments.

I think is you LABOURITES that should be ASHAME of you’ll selves. The election was bought no doubt about that. You all were rejoicing in ANGER and the leader of the DLP knew DAM well that the UWP was going to win the election when he said that he cannot afford to loose the election. SHAME SHAME ON THE DLP THAT COULD NOT STAND ALONE HAD TO LET THE DIASPORAS VOTE ON DEAD PEOPLE NAMES. WHO WERE MORE DESPERATE. PAID PEOPLE TO COME DOWN TO VOTE, WHO WERE MORE DESPERATE. TELL ME WHO WAS MORE DESPERATE. THE MRD IS ACTIING ON THE BEHALF OF US GENUINE DOMININCA WHO WANTED TO BE FREED FROM EVIL MEN. WAT WERE THEY DOING IN FOUR CORNERS EARLY IN THE MORNING. WHO WERE MORE DESPERATE… WHO WAS MORE DESPERATE.

CAN U ALL REMEMBER THAT ON THE 18M BEFORE NIGHT FELL A BIG PIECE OF THE LAND AFTER POINT MICTCHEL CAME DOWN, THIS WAS GOD TALKING. HE SAW MEN IN DESPERATION. AND I AM SO SORRY BUT WE WILL SEE. ALL THE SACRIFICE THAT WERE MADE WE WILL PAY FOR IT ONE DAY.

THE TRUE DOMINICANS AND THOSE WHO ARE GENUINE DOMINICANS LET US PRAY FOR OUR BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. WE CANNOT DEPEND ON THE PASTORS NO MORE AND THE PRIEST AND BISHOP BECAUSE THEY WERE PROBABLY BOUGHT ALSO IT SEEMS. THEY ARE NOT TALKING WAT IS REALLY HAPPENING LORD WE WANT TO KNOW. HOW CAN THEY SEAT BY AND ALLOW ALL THIS AND THEN SAY WE MUST PRAY FOR THE GOVERNMENT, NO NO NO WAY. WHEN U LOOK AT IT THE PEOPLE WHO ARE LIVING HERE WERE NOT GIVEN THE CHANCE TO CHOOSE THE GOVERNMENT OF THEIR CHOICE IT WAS THROWN DOWN IN OUR THROATS.

TIME WILL TELL, TIME WILL TELL

Question? do the dominican people make long term plans?
Do they understand what it means to elect a government?
what are the things that a party needs in order to govern a country?
Do they accept lie and fraud in a prime minister?
Do they think that it is just and fair that people who use to be dominicans, now living their good life abroad can come and vote in an election were they are no longer citizens of dominica and are not registered to vote are allowed to vote?

answer these questions fro me please, i need to know.

they can take the money and the building materials and all that they get but at the end of the day all things have their time. theft and lies cannot run a country in the next few years. dominica will be left in the dust.

CHARLIE MY QUESTION TO YOU IS, CAN YOU LEGALLY VOTE, DO YOU MEET THE REQUIREMENTS. I RESPECT YOUR ARGUMENT REGARDING YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE BUT THE LAW IS THE LAW. YOU MUST OBEY THE LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES JUST LIKE YOU SHOULD DOMINICA’S. CHARLIE DO YOU KNOW THAT IT IS A FELLONY TO CAST AN ILLEGAL BALLOT ? WITHOUT THE BILL OF RIGHTS SO MANY PEOPLE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO VOTE IN THE US – NOW THE BILL OF RIGHTS IS AN AMMENDMENT TO THE LAWS OF THE USA. SO TOO D/CA HAS LAWS ,LAWS THAT PROVIDE THE GUIDELINES FOR THE RIGHTS OF VOTERS. CHARLIE I AM SURE YOU KNOW BETTER THAN TO BLURT OUT SUCH COMMENTS. IT IS BETTER TO REMAIN QUIET ON ISSUES OF WHICH YOU ARE NOT KNOWLEDGABLE. TWO THINGS EITHER YOU DO A RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE OR LISTEN TO THOSE WHO ARE VERSED WITH THE TOPIC. AT THIS POINT SO MANY OFF US ARE JUST MAKING BASELESS AND MORE THAN OFTEN COMMENTS BASED ON EMOTIONAL ATTACMENTS TO ONE POLITICAL PARTY. COMON PEOPLE LET US BE MORE INTELLIGENT THAN THAT.

Dumb-Me-In-Can tsk tsk, such anger on display seems like you’re consumed. I too share some of your disappointments and dissatisfactions ( diasporans accepting tickets to come and vote ) among others, but to call my ppl dumb, then to suggest we burn and destroy to display that frustration, we’re not that dumb.

Some of us are angry yes, but Dominicans are no more dumb than any other ppl, No more. So many of us claim to love Dominica to death, but have so little luv and patience for fellow Dominicans we disagree with that we’re always quick to label so many negative terms unto each other. Do we just luv the land (Dominica) or the ppl and the land, cause it ain’t no luv calling ya ppl dumb or whatever.

For those of us who oppose, we will do it civilly and try to implement laws to prevent any kind of political misconduct by any party, it may not happen at once but we’ll keep our heads down and keep at it until we succeed.

We won’t follow these extreme suggestions. We’re not crusaders.

There are in St.Kitts pleading their case to prime ministers of St.Lucia and St.Vencent, guess I expect them to tell Skirrit to call another election, so they can win their seats. There next move is to travel to England to see queen and cry to her. Shame, shame on them.

By all accounts it seems like we do have a serious problem hear in Dominica. What we must ask ourselves is whether or not we would like the situation to be repeated and if not how do we prevent this unfortunate situation from happening. What we are experiencing here is the DLP on the defensive only because the truth could be ugly. The MRD is not just concerned with disenfranchisement but that they are also power hungry. The DLP must duely respond to the allegations – after all we deserve a response on the issue. Is it true or is not true that there was considerable importation of Diasporan votes. If so then is there a possibility that some of these people may not have been legitimate voters? We need to get out of this old slavery type mentality and be independent thinkers. After all our democracy is at stake – Whichever party takes up the role of leadership we the people should insure that our elections are fair and unadulterated.

At this point in my existence I am not inclined to voice my opinion on which political party is best for D/ca but what I do know is that my conscience would not have allowed me to get on a plane or ferry just to go vote for any one political party or candidacy in D/ca. I do respect the varying opinions on the integrity of a Diasporan vote but to those of us who have been away from D/ca for “UMPTY YEARS” (not withstanding the many return trips) –How can we decide what political party is best for Dominica. About 14 months ago a Dominican based friend (senior Law enforcement official too) vacationing at my home expressed similar concerns on the issue of Diasporan vote. In fact he hinted that there could be legal implications. Note that the discussion was strictly civil and non political. I called this very friend just a couple of days ago, after reading about the issue and I was stunned by a complete turn around in his opinion. The punch line is “ if something is morally wrong on Sunday then why is it not on Monday- Is the law remote control and battery operated”.

I challenge every reasonable D/can to look at the issue objectively don’t be blinded by partisanship. We must stand for something else we fall for anything. If those in power are serious about democracy and transparency then they must address the issue-identify the problem and fix it. I’ve seen and experience the effects of a fragile democracy, a corrupt government, a questionable law enforcement institution – It gets really ugly ..

I believe the government should not take these people lightly. In fact comments such as that of ‘Dumb-Me-In-Can’ shows how dangerous and desperate certain factions of the opposition can get. I believe the actions of many of these people before and after the elections is bodering on the line of TREASON and should be treated as such. When the government settles down I believe a lot of these people should be investigated and the guilty one tried for treason. Can you believe that even kidnapping and bomb threats were issued before the elections to certain airline companies who were believed to be carrying Dominicans back to vote? If it was in the USA many of these folks involved would have been rounded up and tried for terrorism and sent to Guantanamo. PM put your intelligence in place and let’s put some of these folks under investigation and possible trial for treason against the State for surely there are a lot of wicked, dangerous individuals running amock, bent on destroying this beautiful land.

Whether or not people were induced to come from abraod to vote, Labour was sure to win the election. However, with 32,000 people voting out of 67,000 registered voters something is terribly wrong. Why are we not commenting on that?

Labour wining 19,520 votes is about 30% of the elctorate. This does not represent the majority buy there must be a government in place and therefore the Labour party fared better than the rest not withstanding the fact that money played a major role in the victory.

This lead me to believe that any party that can raise at least 20 million dollars for a campaign can win an election in Dominica. In this day and age money wins votes not ideas an issues.

No jobs , foods for the kids, cannot pay your mortgage etc. I hope when the people from the diaspora come you got contacts from them so when the hard time hit, you can call them and beg for a twenty dollars. I also hope that the RED Clinic continues after the election, cause it going to be HARD HARD HARD in little Da.

    To the Dummy

We are born Dominicans and we will always be. There is nothing that you can do about that. You heart is full of hatred – please take a moment and breathe – let the breathe of God cleanse your soul and spirit. Violence achieve nothing but more violence. I challenge you to be more positive and engage in some positive life changing activities and see what good comes out. Whether we are in Dominica physically or not we still passionately care about our Country and fellow brothers and sisters. So don’t make us feel like we are aliens to our own country.

What we should do is come together as one people and do good for the benefit of “Aye Dominique!”

When Dame Eugenia was prime minister many of us spoke so negatively about her – when the world saw and acknowlegde her as a very great leader- it was only after she was not in office and when she died that we began to acknowledge what a great leader she was. Dame Eugenia was one of the world’s greatest leader and we had that privilegde but many of us (like that DUMMY) could not accept that .

Let’s not just focus on party politics but encouraging and expect great leadership from all government officials.

So to my fellow countryman/woman who call him/herself “dummy in a can” – first of all by calling yourself that speaks volume about you. Dictionary meaning of Dummy: a silent and stupid person. And to make matters worse you have enclosed yourself in a can. So please re- think and think about what you are declaring yourself to be to the rest of your fellow Dominicans and the world.

    Love

Ron Green speak of the 4000 dominicans who were paid to come here and vote. Ok lets’ take that into consideration and remove those 4000 votes from the labour party……still the opposition loses by a huge margin. Why are they still fighting? Power hungry individuals and sore loosers who will stop at nothing to “get what they want” and that’s a quote from Mr. Green himself. When does it all end. Teh opposition will fail and fail miserable with their tactics.

THE CENSUS THAT WILL BE DONE NEXT YEAR WILL BE VERY INTERESTING TO CAMPARE TO THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO VOTED. LET THE “OPPOSITION” DO THEIR WORK AND LET THE GOVERNMENT CONTINUE TO PROVE THEM WRONG

    1) 32 thousand votes were counted in the 2009 Dominican elections
    2) DLP got 61% of the popular vote, over 9 thousand more than UWP who got 35% of the vote
    3) 13 of DLP’s 18 seats were won by a margin greater than 250
    4) UWP initially alledged that 600 voters were imported now the number is 4000
    5) For weeks on end, peoples names, phone no and adress was distributed online talked about on the radio as illegal voters
    6) We were told by the legal pundits that there would arrests made, green cards cancelled and US citizenship revoked

    Some questions:
    1) Assuming UWP is correct with their numbers; Which seats would they have won to change the outcome of the election? The people have spoken sorry SHOUTED but a minority is of the opinion that they know better.
    2) Every Tom, Dick and Harry has a cellphone with a camera, where are the pictures or videos of all the planes landing (in a UWP stronghold) Bus loads of people leaving the terminal, disruptions at the polls?
    3) How many people were arrested? If 600 – 4000 came there must have been a case against at least 1.
    4) Who selected/voted for the MRD? We just had an election and did not see them. Who do they represent? What is their agenda?
    5) Do we advance Dominica by launching a pathetic campaign to discredit, distract, disrupt?
    6) How old will these oposition members be in the next 5 yrs? Will running the country be their retirement job?

These clowns have no credibility – – – – – -SHAME! SHAME! SHAME

Come on Ron!!!!! 4000 people? I mean really!!!!! You expect us to believe that??? So people came in to vote…not the first time by any means….but 4000 people? Really Ron? For that to be possible the labour party would have to charter 80 flights with 50 people each or 10 jumbo jets with 400 people each to land in Dominica on the 18th as you say. I mean really Ron that’s primary school math. If you can arrive at such ridiculous logic you are not fit to lead this country. I mean REALLY!!!!!!!! Where did they land? At the Wesley Edison James International Airport that the UWP built???? REALLY????

The government officials are not occupied with what Ron GreeN, Para and Judith are doing in St. Kitts. They are more concerned with fattening their bank accounts and putting money in their friends pockets. None of you blasting the opposition stand to gain anything substantial from the governmnet.

Lets’s face it, if you have money to buy an election would you worry with an MRD? Stop chastizing Dominicans with opposing view points. Its high time you accept that every one can not be Labour but everyone born in Dominica is a Dominican. The election is over stop hating.

The folks went to St. Kitts and were cordially recieved. Anyone who can’t stand people who are not riding on the same political train with them has a serious problem. In a democracy everyone has a say whether or not what he says is in your favour. Labour party can not rule Dominica for ever. What goes around comes around. The same folks who put you where you are today are the same ones who take you down tomorrow.

I just don’t get it! 3 Dominican opposition politicians meeting with regional leaders to express their disastisfaction with the electioneering process in Dominica basing their contention on bribery which they need to prove in order to to have a legitimate case against the Labour party. And Dominicans with dictatorial tendencies are seeking to shut them out making it seem that dissention will not be tolerated in Dominica under a labour party government.

I think the MRD has every right to protest if they are convinced that the elections were bought. If they are wrong then history will prove that. Just let them exercise their right. What are you all afraid of? Fresh elections don’t happen just because a group of people call for them. The MRD is on a recognition campaign and has began the campaign to oppose the Skerrit government on a broad front to undermine it from now until the next general elections in 2014.

If the MRD play their cards right they will be rewarded in the long run. If they play them wrong we can only say “give a fool enough rope and he will hag himself ‘ and that also goes for the Labour party. In the mean time it is business as usual. The rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer.

Let the opposition talk you know it is their right man. If they are not happy about something they have the right to comment .While our election seems fair people should not be paid to come from overseeas to vote by any party , people it really happened, I know where I am coming from. If Dominican choose to come home to vote by paying their own ticket , once they are on the voters list let them do so. I also supported the introduction of ID cards , most countries inthe caribbean do so anyway. With all these fraud nowadays ID cards are required to indentify individuals. To write my examination at university I had to produce my Id. I supported the PM and the labour party ,but I am not a Boom boom fly or a party fanatic.

Dominicaan must stop being party colouur blind, we must be fear in our comments give prasies when its due and speak out when something is wrong.

Seriously how could UWP win 11 seats to form a Government. There were perhaps 7 seats that may have been considered close by any stretch of the imagination. All this antics is simply to mask the ineptitube of the opposition.
UWP has simply become a party that appeals to the worst in us, while the Labour party, though flawed continue to appeal to our better nature. When the PM says to a rally he would, rather loose the election than have someone loose their life. Can anyone imagine Edison James making such a selfless statement.
The reason for refusing to accept the election results is not about what’s best for DA or the people, it is base on pure, naked, selfish ambition. These people sincerely believe that the Government is illegal so the election no matter what the observers say is void. The issue is not about Election good people, it is about an inept, weak, irrelevant opposition who cannot provide the Electorate with a more appealling alternative. They know they cannot compete at the polls, so their only alternative is to try to discredit, disfigure, demoralise and disembowel the Government.
My advise to our people is to be vigilante and remember what happened during the first 5 years of Freedom party rule 1980-85. Do not ignore these people they are indeed desperate. We all know what desperate people can do.
Hon. PM gird up your loins and let not your guard down, the Lord is your Shepherd.

‘Dominican lover’, you ask, What do they expect the Prime Ministers of St.Vincent and Grenada to do? May i remind you that it was our own prime minister at the time (Dame Eugenia Charles) that gave Reagan the nod to invade Grenada after the killing of Maurice Bishop, rather than allowing the Grenadians to sort out their problems internally. This resulted in the deaths of hundreds of innocent Grenadians through the indiscriminate bombings by the Americans. This included the bombing of a mental hospital on the island which resulted in the deaths of dozens of mental patients who had nothing to do with the ongoing political strife. This should give you an idea of what they can do in response to your question. Don’t be surprised at what Ron and the ‘Pest’ could be cooking up in their meeting with these two heads of states. Dominicans just need to be vigilent over the next few months and be prepared to fight to defend our democracy. these people are power hungry and will stop at nothing to get it by what ever means.

(Both the OAS and the CARICOM Observer Teams have said they were pleased with the conduct of the polls, with the OAS saying “the environment in which citizens exercised their franchise was peaceful and without incident.

“So we went into this thing with our eyes open,” she added.)

I find these statements above very interesting. Know that Mrs Pestaina on her website noted that she have conducted several observations around the world, with one of the same group of observers that were in Dominica, is sh now implying that because her party or well Uwp lost that the observers were bias? were they corrupt too?

secondly if she knew she was going to lose (didn’t expect to win) why should she be surprised that or against the fact that the dlp won fair and square given that the majority and yes we all know it is the majority of freedomites drifted to the dlp camps based on mammo’s recommendations.

secondly the opposition speaks of the democratic process not being upheld in the last election, well i think we ought to go back a few years and say that when the uwp that process was also not upheld, because we votes under the same circumstances. Parties paying the passage of Dominicans overseas to come home to vote is nothing new, we all know that! we all have evidence of it from all parties, including this year!

I realize that these men must still be in disbelief and or denial, to have gotten a beating like that when u see yourself as the one and only intelligent person on the island is something hard to accept. I guess we just need to give them time, they will come to their sense soon.

But in the meantime we must also let them know that while they destroy their party further by making fools of themselves, do not try to bring down the good name of our country and our people! Stop calling us unintelligent voters, stop calling us Dumbinicans, and stop calling us illegals because we leave outside of Dominica the land of our birth and the one we continue to contribute to. also stop calling for the destruction of out country, i have head this so called lawyer almost every day call on a particular program and continuously calling for the destruction of Dominican! it’s a real shame i tell you! it’s an embarrassing shame listening to him!

It seems like because some of us are angry about the outcome of the elections, we have forgotten the word love, we have forgotten how to love our fellow country men. finally to the UWP i will say plain i don’t support your party, i know that you guys were not ready in spite of the fact that who have been declaring elections for five years before it was called. But we do need effective opposition that have the country’s interest at heart and not their own personal interest, it’s not the Government who are failing in their responsibilities if you do not attend parliament it’s you. it’s not the government that is looking to give a one party state ( though i think that this term is the being used wrongly but i understand that it’s a political thing) it’s you!

All UWP supporters take a step back & think about this, your party the UWP said before the election that the DLP is going to bring diasporas to vote in the election. People on Q95 was even calling out flight numbers on the radio, but yet still with all the prior knowledge & flight numbers in hand no one from the UWP or Q95 could get to the airport & take a picture for us to see? We are in 2009 people digital & video cameras are cheap & if they don’t have one every cell phone takes pictures and video. Why did they not take a pic of the bus load of people with the police protection getting off the plane going to vote? Think about it people don’t make fools of yourself! The airport is in a UWP strong hold, Mr. James is from the area, and i’m sure he has family that’s living there. .. you mean no one with a cell phone or a camara could have taken a pic of the illegal Dominicans breaking the law coming to their homeland to vote? There are no UWP supporters working in the airport with a cell phone to take a pic ? The other thing is the UWP had 6 seats, DLP 15 for UWP to win they had to get at least 9 seats, ask yourself truthfully which 9 seats were they going to win? Can’t you see through all this…isn’t this just all sour grapes!!??

My friend at the ECCB, called me earlier today and informed me how disappointed he was when he saw the three political greedy people in St. Kitts earlier on today. He said he was so ashame, although he knows one of the person’s personally, but felt he did not have the guts to allow him to see him in order to be greeted, instead he docked for cover like in the old cowboy movies and said ” oh my what ashame, I can t believe that some people can stoop so long just to hold public office. I am not a politician and never will I be…today I don t want to be known in St. Kitts as being a Dominican..shame on my countrymen.” After thios episode was related to me all I could have done was to look to the heavens and asked deep within” is this really true or my friend was just pulling a fast one on me.” But knowing the individual being a no nonsense person, I have no reason to doubt him…before ending our converstaion he said he hope that one day he will get the opportunity to relate to his experience today.

I then started saying again shame on you Madam Pestina, Mssrs Ron green and Mr. James…you all will never get what you all are in search of…what I gather over the last few days is to every UWP supporter, there are two LABOURITES to out do you all, so this is the message I am sending to you all. Stop making fools of you all selves, the world is watching and many are asking” what’s wrong with thses power hungry people, are they losing their heads?”

I my humble opinion you all are total jokers and my eighty three years old granny would say.

You all enticed Mr. skerrit to call election, the gentleman had no intention of calling election at this time, but because he knew you all were not ready the request was granted, now instead of accepting the cut asses and go pray for forgiveness for the harm you all has done, you all are touring over the place saying you going to see other regonal leaders. Don t you all jolly well know that they cannot do anything for you all jokers?

I wonder who was the person or persons that funded this trip! Could you all tell the Dominican electorate?

Stop being laughing stock…this is definietly not funny for learned people like you all.

All over town persons are asking each other for tickets to go to St. Kitts, for sure this one is very funny and I have realized that the talk of the town now is all about St.kitts.

Mr. Green, You are forever lazy and nothing will change you, for if you had done your homework,Peter “Petter” St. Jean would have never beat you, but because of your laziness, now you are seeking sympathy regionally…shame on you all…I feel I can write till kingdom come on you all…SHAME.

utter rubbish by the MRD and all those involved. it’s about time that the opposition accept defeat and show respect for dominicans and the decision that we made at the polls. dominica’s democracy must be respected by the opposition. if they choose to remain out of parliament then this is going to be done on their own accord not from pressure nor impropriety on the part of the government elect, in turn the opposition must stop trying to intimidate and use threats and the propaganda campaign to call fresh elections. a new election is not merited as this one was transparent, free and fair the defeat of the opposition at the polls was the will of dominicans, dominicans seeking continued development and positive growth in the country, dominicans fed-up of the bickering and lies and the oppositions wild imagination, dominicans who could not stand to have visiting dominicans threatened by violence and acts of terrorism by the opposition and the allies of said body.
