Edison James and Hector John came to the ‘Red Clinic’ – PM Skerrit

PM Skerrit - says the UWP politicians came to request government funds to pay Trinidadian lawyer

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has accused two United Workers Party (UWP) members of seeking assistance from Government to pay lawyers for a legal matter.

Skerrit told a public meeting in Morne Rachette last night that UWP elected members for the Salisbury and Marigot constituencies Hector John and Edison James came to the “Red Clinic” last month “asking for assistance to pay their lawyers”.

“When they tell you that they cannot find Skerrit, they knew where the Red Clinic was last month, when they came to ask Skerrit to take money from the Treasury to give them to pay lawyers to contest the Speaker’s decision in the House of Assembly,” he said.

Skerrit said the two members were requesting $70,000 to pay a Trinidadian lawyer to “come right to Dominica to file some foolish case”.

“Why didn’t John come to tell me that the public convenience in Salisbury was bad and need fixing?” he asked.

However James has described the statement as “lies”.

“Roosevelt Skerrit is deliberately misrepresenting and lying about the matter. He talks about a public convenience and what he said here is fit for that public convenience. He is simply disgustingly misleading and lying to the people,” James, a former prime minister rebutted.

He said anyone who speaks to Prime Minister Skerrit, “whether it’s about their organization or personal matters” must be cautious.

@jahlive, redemption soon come: Your words are so true and timely. My prayer is that Dominicans will see the light by the next election and seek out those leaders with a backbone, equitable distribution of the country resources, respecting the people.

I honestly believe that with this new law the Prime Minister wealth should be investigated according to the salary he receives. The Prime Minister and his Cabinet should never accept montary gifts while in power. Investigate them

Thinking that the UWP is a force to reckon with is a delusion.

Ponder on managing the country’s finances for a sec, point out the differences between DLP and UWP. “Bobol, bobol, bobol and more bobol” all the same.

In the midst of all the tout pa toutism which was particularly pronounced under the UWP both parties managed to achieve some sound development projects but succeeded in one way or the other to drain the life and blood of the country confounding it to a state of confusion, wrecklessness and poverty.

Like members of the UWP did Skerritt has also lost track, pursuing his selfish, egotistic ambitions. This is a sad state of affairs for our beloved Dominica, and rather than fight for this party or the next, we need to Demand integrity from ALL the politicians. Otherwise, the very same independence we are fussing over, we may as well erase it from our minds and go back to being a colony so that we would have no choice but to operate according to the rules of slave master in order to do things properly and the right way.

“For those who joyously march in rank and file, have already earned my contempt, for they were given a large brain by accident, when a spinal chord would have sufficed”.

And if that were the case, why does Skeerit feel the need to share that with Dominicans, if not to smear the issue, more drama.

Skerrit exhibits no form of professionalism, and I am at times so ashamed that this is the man in power. He is impulsive and that is to his detriment, see all his cracks and flaws show through when he is implusve… time will tell. Dirty games…name calling…
Do you think I am swayed or impressed with this revealation, not at all!!!!!
I want to hear about what this government is doing for me, for my children, for my husband to get work, for my grandmother, that’s what i want to hear about… not this crap.

Instead of buying Dominicans trust and admiration through hard work, and good deeds, you are relying on tainting the opposition. Why, you say they don’t count, so why all the effort to smear them. Prove yourself , and ignore the UWP.

But that’s not possible, cause the truth is: TEH UWP does matter, and they are a formidable force to reckon with. You know the truth don’t you? And you are scared, so you have to resort to this….Smear campaigns, failed bids to embarrass them. I am still so uncertain as to WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS???????

Sometimes we need to set aside the politricking, and really come together on the table and do what is best for DOMINICA and ITS PEOPLE.

This is so anal, so childish, kind of what I would expect from my teenage kids. Not from a grown man leading a country and head of major organizations.

But i guess we do not know better…..Mr. James, don’t stoop to that “next level” please, you are already above and beyond such reproach.

based on this display of unnecessary attention seeking underhanded outcry, I don’t think our narrow minded Crime Minister can ever come together with any opposition or member who opposes him, in debate, or can he ever see eye to eye on any issue. if its not his idea, its no good, and that is the down fall of the country. If we all put Dominica first, then things would be different and we would then be able to put our political differences aside and agree on what’s best.

But that will never happen in Domincia, or the Craibbean for that matter, our politicians, red, blue, green, organge, purple, they are all too narrow minded, selfish, shortsighted, greedy boys.

Now back to the issue, This comment or issue, is not news worthy, and you Mr. PM really should focus on things like paying tuition for the college students of Good Hope who just got kicked out of school as the tuition you promised was not paid, you should be focused on creating jobs, changing the attitudes of your public servants who practically suck at customer service, you should be finding ways to get more educated and skilled Dominicans back home, getting more retirees to come to dominica, you should be finding long term solutions to protecting our invaluable resources, you should be talking about what you are doing to stomp on crime, you shoudl be coming clean with your assets, you shoudl be answering teh question swe have been asking, fix the health care, and never mind that they came to ask you for money ( if the ever did)

This is SO CHILDISH….. SPOIL BRAT SYNDROME.

Have respect Skerrit, You should start with the man in the mirror. You take it to the next level first.

Acquired RESPECT is not the same as GIVEN respect, and you have a long way to go before you can earn my respect and you have long loss the admiration I once had for you Skerrit. You have forgotten who you were and what you stood for, time to go back in time.

THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO ‘ASK FOR MONEY’ if u wish to say it that way….geezzz

It is not a shame that the prime minister stoop extremely low. He knows what his followers expect of him and he delivers. If his followers wanted more than (row-row) and propoganda he would not have said what he did. There was a survey made rating the characters of the leaders of various countries and Dominica Prime Minister rated very high and by reading the comments made I came to realize that a high percentage of Dominica cannot understand the english language therefore reflects the leveland quality of education in Dominica. Maybe he wants to keep it this way.

@ Ric Ross: “How can you go to the government to request from them money to fight the very same government? …what is so effing hard to understand?” Ric, we understand. Here’s why, if you can figure this out. Why would you write to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, whom you do not recognize as being legitimate, to excuse you for being absent from a parliament you do not recognize as being legitimate, when you are out protesting against the very same parliament, Speaker and the government which elected the Speaker? Sounds complex. Isn’t it? No, it’s politics. It’s more than meets the eye, my brother. Refrain from the effing ’cause at the end of the day you will be stressed out and the politicians will be ok.

@Jus Saying: In case you didn’t Sout Man posting, her you go,,,Read , please read comrade…don’t let emotion come in your way, be very objective.

    SOUT MAN POSTING:

Yesterday, some people commented that Dominica’s ambassador to the OAS sings for his supper. Any government appointment, project or assistance is described as a bribe or “red clinic”. The term “red clinic” has been generalized in such a demeaning and derogatory way by the opposition and their supporters, that no one feels comfortable associating with it. It’s like food stamps in the USA.

Even if “red clinic” is closed, I believe that the PM was using the generalized concept of seeking govt. assistance. The PM does not make public announcements whenever people come to the “RC” but that alleged case is special and unusual. These are the same people criticizing every legitimate govt. assistance as “red clinic” (RC).

Why do you have to be a “fool” or “idiot” or “gullible” to believe that Mr.John and Mr. James seek government assistance for their legal defense. They probably did. The PM used the term “red clinic” figuratively, but everyone is commenting like it’s used literally. Mr. John and Mr. James would have a legitimate reason to ask the govt. for funding. Their case involves a matter directly related to their offices as public servants. The Attorney General is paid from the public treasury and she represents all govt. officials. The opposition represents a large percentage of the population and they need to have legal support for legitimate matters related to their offices as public officials.

So it’s not difficult for me to understand why they probably approached the PM along these lines. They just didn’t anticipate the PM scoring cheap political points on the matter. So be careful when you stick your neck on the block for any politician. Both sides are politicking, but I have not seen any denial. The term “red clinic” only infuriates the UWP because they have made it derogatory like food stamp, welfare, trailer park, socialist, nigger. They even try to take the “N” word out of our vocabulary. It should not be used to insult others but we should always use it to describe that era of our history whether the perpetrators are embarrassed or not.

Remember the elections when he said that DA was doing so well that we were now giving money to Antigua……..or was it some other Caribbean Island? I mean we all know that the man is noted for being a liar and is not today. Too bad some of the labourites are too blind that they can’t see that. What makes you all think that politics is going to change the man. Just look for that sly smile and dimples when he is lying. I guess those fake smiles is what brings lazy Dominicans to their knees.

The best response to this kind of gutter politics by the PM has already been given by Mr James. He is definitely the most pompous PM the caribbean has seen, and he feeds on the ignorance of the people. He keeps his supporters poor so therefore they will always crawl and grovel to him to buy bread. Therefore they are always enmeshed in his net..James should also tell him go and take care of a country he took in tact, but has fallen under his care into a state of moral, economical, social and even institutional crisis.More drugs, higher unemployment, agricultural decay, educational clumsiness. In the meantime he and his ministers are living like monarchs of all they survey.
Dominicsnd need to be alert and to be wise like the Salisbury and Marigot people. These people work hard, think independently, and cannot be easilu bought. I JOIN HANDS WITH MR JAMES IN TELLING YOU THAT THIS RUBBISH TYPE OF POLITICS BELONGS TO THE LATRINE HOLE NOT TO DOMINICANS AND DOMINICA..

Instead of taking the high road and letting the people know his government`s intentions for their community, he tries to dirty the names of two good men. And you know it`s an insecurity issue that he has. The PM knows that he can`t compete with the likes of Mr. Edison James on any level, so he has to stoop to what the domey nicans know, and that is meypwi. Why do you know that in the general elections last december he didn`t want that debate with the other party leaders, the man can`t debate anything in a respectful manner, he was afraid of us finding out that his level of intelligence was only in his smile. well, well, well Skerrit takes the cake for been a pompus …. He is so arrogant that he feels whatever he says Dominica will just gubble it up. This man is on such a power trip that he feels he can do and say anything. He lies like there is not tomorrow. If skerrit say to you run, please walk. Dont ever trust what is coming from his mouth unless you can record him for evidence.

He places his minister in situtation where they have to agree with him for their super. The are a bunch of scared men afraid to push back because he will pull the rug from under their feet. He rules by instilling fear in his ministers…

He is getting so pompus that he will screw himself over. The situation in Dominica is presenting the perfect opportunity so all can see the real skerrit.

God is good all the time and is working this opportunity to open the eyes of all Dominicans.

Now that is where the PM will bring himself down. Truth is you can take the man out of the country but you cannot take the country out of the man. I don’t care how much Pm dresses up, no matter what he puts in his bank account, no matter what he is exposed to , he is going to remain a little country bookie acting the part. Pm must rise to the next level. This is nonsense now. Who cares about who came to Red Clinic? Tell me about how you plan on stimulating the economy, and fixing the backlog of trained teachers who cannot get jobs! tell me about the road project. PM you need to come better than that, you really acting childish. Take a page out of Obama’s Book. Now there is a CLASS ACT! hen again is Chavez school you are in. No kind of class, but Chavez is still an intelligent man. PM Please take time to read books on the profession, and up your skills.

Word of caution: Roseau Bourgeois are getting tired of you. Check yourself. You just may find yourself back in Veille Case the same little country bookie you left.Behanzin looks like he is waiting in the wings. Bourgeois for Bourgeois they would rally with him he is STILL A DOUGLAS

Mr. James and Mr. john and the UWP in general have been critical of the Red Clinic Activities. They call them handouts. They claimed that the government is creating a nation of beggars. Why therefore should they request funding for what ever purpose? you are critizing something that you secretely want to benefit from. They should raise their own funds. Ask your support or learn to beg .

I support the Primeminister in exposing their hypocrisy!

  75. Pollitrickslicking

Why would the UWP meet with Skerritt and not be transparent about it? Whatever the discussion was about, only the three know excatly what went down. After all, Edison did not deny having met with Skerritt.

And who say that part of the deal was not Skerritt smiling with his dimples saying,

“No problem man, all you know Alix already she like to play hard, I will give all you de money, but I will say at the meeting all you come Red Clinic eh.., ha ha ha he he he?”, with Edison and John responding, “Weh papa, hmmm. If someone goes to the Prime Minister (no matter who it is and what they ask for) that should be kept confidential.
This is making me think that the Prime Minister cannot be trusted with peoples personal matters.

It outrages me to think that if I go to the red clinic that what i say in there is not confidential.

What he need to do is get rid of this ..woman who has cripled the parliamentary system.

  95. dominican texas
    July 9, 2010

I said in a previous comment that the tax payers will pay for the uwp boycot and no one was paying attention, simply because the elected officials refused to attend parliament, the goverment should send them a bill for the expense, because in my view if any other party member refuse to attend the business of the people, the constitution should be amended to punish that individual in a punitive way because of the cost to tax payers. People decides to sit out and then ask for money to pay for the expenses.
