BRAVE PATRIOTIC DOMINICANS HAVE OVERWHELMINGLY DEFEATED THE PRIME MINISTER’S PLANS TO ESTABLISH A ONE-PARTY STATE WITH HIMSELF AS DOMINICA’S FIRST DICTATOR.

On Friday July 9th 2010; the people of Salisbury and Marigot put COUNTRY BEFORE SELF and handed the Skerrit led government a resounding defeat at polls in those two constituencies. Candidates of opposition United Workers Party who had previously been technically denied access to the Parliament by the Speaker of the House; were returned with extended majorities of not less than 300 votes and in one case over 500.

One government supporter was reported to have confirmed that the election was unfair as it had been rigged by the opposition. According to her the opposition UWP had corrupted the process and cheated the DLP out of what should have been a sure victory: A prominent senior counsel is said to be reviewing the matter before filing election petitions at the High Court in Roseau

Can we, at least, agree on the constitutional requirement for a by-election? It is mandatory, compulsory, obligatory. Whenever a seat becomes vacant, a by-election must be called. A seat becomes vacant when an elected parliamentarian dies, resigns, is jailed or misses three consecutive sittings of the House of Assembly without being excused by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, who happens to be Mrs. Alix Boyd-Knight, at this point in time. The Prime Minister, who is Hon. Roosevely Skerrit, at this point in our history,is ogligated to call the by-election after consulting with the President. That’s not a question of, if he wants or maybe he should, but who will get vex. Umm umm! No if, but or maybe; he bound to, as we like to say in D/A.

So why accuse the Speaker and the PM of wasting time and money for doing their job as required by the constitution? Hon. Norris Prevogt knows the constitutional requirement. So does the Speaker, the PM and Attorney General. The member for Marigot and the member for Salisbury also knew. While making public pronouncements about the reasons for their boycott of parliament, behind our backs they were begging the Speaker to excuse them for unstated reasons. It’s like telling all your classmates that you were skipping class because you were not prepared (no assignment) and you write to the teacher to excuse you without giving a valid reason. “Miss, please excuse me for not being in class because I am not in class”.

So this is not party politics. The PM might have rushed the sittings of the House, but, hey, he’s the boss. Everyone knows who misses the sittings of parliament; but only ONE is responsible for issuing excuses or leave of absence and that’s the Speaker, Mrs Alix Boyd-Knight, whether we like it or not. So why don’t the politicians educate the people on constitutional matters when they arise, instead of exploiting our ignorance? The issue of one party state is another area where politicians keep fooling the people. In a country with 5 political parties and dozens of independent candidates, how can we be a one party state? Even if one party wins all 21 seats, it won’t be a one party state. Politicians are dishonest when they perpetuate such ignorance. They laugh behind our backs when they sit down to drink their whisky

I am at lost to understand why a labourite would call the people of Marigot and Salisbury stupid for sticking to thier party. When the freedom party won by a landslide the people of Portsmouth and Grandbay must have been called fools then or i guess were cosider fools for sticking with labour. But then again maybe the people throwing insults now might have voted freedom and called the laborites who they now support fools or they were just to young and now dont know there own history, poor them. In dominica it seems if u dont have my view u are a stupid person, funny, is that itself dumb since we suppose to agree to disagree but then only the smart people can do that.

So Mr. James and Mr. John are not expected to continue with their boycott of parliament.

I wonder what would be the legal, political and constitutional consequences if James and John were to continue their boycott of parliament.

Would the speaker declare their seats vacant again? Would the PM call another bi-election and prevent the further development of Salisbury and Marigot as monies put aside for roads construction and other development projects in these constituencies would again have to be used for election related activities?

I hope that the speaker and the PM got the message from their childish, arrogant and irresponsible actions. This entire process was a waste of time, effort and national resources. This is certainly not taking Dominica to the next level of development. It is just a higher level of stupidity.
In all of this I am deeply disappointed in the conduct of the President and the tardiness and slothfulness of the legal system in Dominica. The country is functioning in the absence of the rule of law., where the PM and his party seem to be above the law and the courts cannot be moved or persuaded to take timely action in defense of the Constitution.

Thanks to the people of Salisbury and Marigot. God bless our Nature Isle.

This makes no sense, the people of Marigot and Salisbury constituencies are very naive. You voted these guys the first time and they failed you by not doing their jobs. What is the point of voting them back in, if you don’t want Labour party then find an independent candidate that will do the job. Everybody talking about how drugs and guns going to destroy my beloved country, but it will be these stupid politicians that are going to take Dominica down. These idiot politicians needs to stop acting like power hungry children and do their damn jobs.

It is sooooooo obvious that UWP took that little byelection , bi-election, buyelection , call it whatever election so seriously!!!!

Those people go house to house we!!!

To prevent Skerrit and the Labor Party from taking d lead in the campaign they start to send mix signals: They filing injunction in court to prevent d bybyelction . They want d court to tell dem how d speaker get d authority to make their seats vacant. Then they turn and say during their preliminary court case that Skerrit doh learning and cannot stop himself from bribing people (their heart was starting to beat out of sync and that is when party members from all other constituencies converge on Salisbury and Marigot). And dat is true!!!

Those people start to look up all man name in directory from those two constituencies and start calling to make appointment to visit dem people – people early morning and late night phone call. Ehlas !! People have to go work to pay their bills and need all their sleep!!!!!

D light bill and phone bill of d office on Cork Street even higher than d general election campaign of last December. Budget for toilet paper bust, budget for paracitamol bust, budget for red bull drinks bust, budget for gas bust , money for legal fees get diverted into campaign and plan ah foot to hold radiothon to clear negative variance for d by-election campaign budget.

When king jahjah see d $25,000.00sss finish and July did not reach yet he come up with desperate strategy and that is where Skerrit win him – we will go back to parliament we and we will take our seats …..yes we!!! And that victory BIGGER than getting back d two seats.

Skerrit Administration gets recognized by all you!!!! All you political necks were on d rope and all u cave in!!! Who’s your Daddy now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now d results come out in their favor , papa people voice get back big and strong and dem man start to beat their chest as if it was chack they did had to look powerful. Drinks start to flow (never mind it doh pay for as yet as budget already bust but pretense must to keep up as if things are good) and this morning about 5:30 a.m. dem two man dere realize that Prevost going and vote for himself to be leader of d opposition and so d plan hatch to work on Prevost to give up his personal ambition for d sake of d party!!!!

More vibes to come, till den Earl sen and say plenty howdee.

    July 9, 2010

The people of Salisbury and Marigot have spoken in free and fair elections, and as a labour supporter I fully respect the decision of the people. They won with no voter ID, with the same old list, no free access to DBS radio etc. What then was the reason for the boycott?

So to the people of Dominica spoke on December 18 2009 under the same conditions why then the workers party did not accept the voice of the people? We still have eighteen to three in parliament.

I appears to me that when workers party win, the election is free and fair and when they loose under the same conditions the election is corrupt. This is hipocresy at its highest level.
