Newly-elected Minister for Carib Affairs Ashton Graneau said he will continue to fight for the betterment of the Kalinago people.

Graneau won the Salybia constituency on a Dominica Labour Party ticket at the December 18, 2009 general elections. He took over the reins from his younger brother Kelly Graneau who had served as member of parliament for that constituency since 2000.

Ashton Graneau, who served in the education sector for several years, says he will concentrate on a few new initiatives including agriculture, markets for the craft industry and access to credit.

“Our people need some form of credit to advance them. We also want to concentrate on the youth because they need some attention. We also want to concentrate on sports and literary skills,” he added.

Graneau, who was officially sworn in on Monday, says he is also willing to work with the new Carib Chief to look at ways to enhance the lives of the Carib people

Meanwhile, he also  gave his commitment to working with the Atkinson Village Council.

Ashton and Kelly though brothers, are chalk and cheese. Kelly was a player, Ashton is a doer…

Don’t mix apples with oranges. Go Ashton! We asked for you, you answered, now we are behind you!

well suffice it to say its their land… we aint own … if that were to happen then we’d be the ones to pity on DNO. this topic would then read “Descendants of slaves, homeless after 400+ years lol”
but hey, i’d take my chances with this set up since the kalinagos are the sweetest most loving people i know in this country. if i had to be under privileged and looking for a place where compassion is, i’d take my chances with the indigenous. ya heard!!!!
