The United Workers Party (UWP) candidate for the Marigot in Friday’s by-election Edison James is optimistic that he will be re-elected as the Member of Parliament for the constituency.
House Speaker Alix Boyd-Knights announced that James and elected UWP Member of Parliament for the Salisbury constituency Hector John vacated their seats after missing three consecutive sittings of Parliament.
“I am not aware that I have not taken any blows, certainly I have not felt any blows. The people of the Marigot constituency are standing firmly behind me based on the representation that I have given them over the years. We are ready for the by-election and we are confident that we will win,” he said.
James is also refuting claims that he had not effectively represented the people.
“I have been talking to the people. I have been with them, I have engaged them; we have had public and private meetings and we will be having one tonight. They are satisfied that we have made the right choice … they are firmly of the view that we should be voting with ID cards…” he added.
James said he is also concerned that the Dominica Labour Party Administration is moving towards a one-party state.
