Just three days away from the July 9 bi-elections and nominated candidates are expressing confidence that they will emerge victorious at the polls.

UWP candidate for the Salisbury constituency Hector John says focus on agriculture and development of feeder roads are some of his plans for the constituency.

“We are very prepared and everything is underway. We are just waiting for polling day for us to go and exercise our rights. We will send a message to the world that democracy in Dominica is alive and well,” he said.

John said he has been doing his best to bring to the fore, concerns of the Salisbury consistency.

He talked about a resource center, access road and proper water for Morne Rachette residents.

Fishermen lockers and a retaining wall was also mentioned as part of his intentions for the community.

Meantime, DLP candidate for the Marigot constituency Dayton Baptiste says improvement to roads, the construction of a senior citizens home, upgrading of the Marigot hospital and feeder roads for farmers are some of the priority projects when elected.

I am prepared and ready to go. I am just hoping that they would support me. I am ready and prepared to go to parliament. We have a great increase in support, they now have to come and vote on when the time comes,” he said.

According to him, all information on the ground is that the people of Marigot want change and better representation.

” We will send a message to the world that democracy in Dominica is alive and well ” said Mr. Dayton Baptiste. I’m sorry, it was said by John the Baptiste. Now I am very much confused. Is the reporter quoting Mr. Hector John, one of the architects of the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy in Dominica, or the DLP Senator, Dayton Baptiste, from Marigot? Democracy has apparently been restored. If that’s the case, credit is due to the Speaker of the House of Assembly for declaring the seats vacant and to the Prime Minister, for calling the by-election as mandated by the constitution.

Otherwise, I will need 4 academic degrees to figure this one out. Was the boycott of parliament and the staging of the People’s Parliament just a charade or does Mr. John believe that Dominicans have already forgotten the episode? Please help me understand. I do not care if you carry your academic degree in your pocket or common sense in your brains.

In the interest of tax payers, a psychiatric analysis needs to be performed on the Salisbury constituents. From all reports, if the Ex Parliamentary Representative Mr. Earl Williams had contested the last elections he would have won by a landslide even after being self-exiled for grand larceny and embezzlement. Mr. John has every reason to be confident. He like Mr. Williams is exploiting the daftness of the constituents for his own political gain – and who could blame them. Mr. John has not made it 100% clear that he will attend parliament when he wins the bi-election. I’m close with many people from this constituency who resides in the US and they too are confused as to how the majority of the voters remained medieval thinkers in the 21st century

“According to him, all information on the ground is that the people of Marigot want change and better representation.” According to our constitution the only legitimate place for representing those who voted for you is Parliament. Therefore the only to give “better representation” is to go to Parliament.
