Labourite says he is voting UWP

Dr. Benjamin said he has been a Labourite since 1985
Dr. Benjamin said he has been a Labourite since 1985

He vowed that he is a Labourite and a member of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) but resident psychiatrist, Dr. Griffin Benjamin, said in this general election, he is voting with his head and will be going with the United Workers Party (UWP).

“I am a Labourite. I have been a Labourite since 1985,” he said on privately-owned Q95 on Thursday morning.

According to Benjamin he registered with the DLP in 1985.

“I don’t think I have not lost my membership because I have paid enough money to the Labour Party from my salary to pay loans for the Labour Party that Rosie (Douglas) and the others took,” he stated. “But this election I am voting with my head. I think we need to move forward.”

He stated that he has been rubbing shoulders with those in the hierarchy of the DLP for a long time but “this time I am rubbing shoulders with Lennox Linton and the change movement in Dominica.”

He described as “distasteful” some of the comments made by prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, about Lennox Linton, leader of the UWP.

“When Mr. Skerrit became the leader of the Labour Party and the then prime minister, Mr. Edison James went after him, calling him a little boy with a toy,” Benjamin said. “This morning I heard the prime minister say that Lennox Linton is a little boy who wants a toy. Now I find that so distasteful because when Edison went after Mr. Skerrit, Edison got blows for that and Dominicans rallied behind Mr. Skerrit.”

He added, “now Mr. Skerrit looking at a man saying that he says is uneducated, or whatever, that doesn’t make any sense to me because Dominicans know that Lennox Linton is a very intelligent guy, very articulate, he is well read, well researched and he seems to be a consumate professional, a guy who sits down, reads, organizes. I know that now more than before because I look at the party and its organization towards victory in this election and I say they are sticking to a plan and one person is now leading that match forward.”

He believes Skerrit should debate Linton.

“Now don’t tell me that you can compare a guy who is willing to debate a sitting prime minister of all government’s policies for the past 15 years,” Benjamin noted. “He is willing to say let us talk about what you have done, I will be the underdog, let’s go. And these people are not coming to debate so that people like me can say I have a very good prime minister as my leader or there is a challenger who is better. I think Skerrit could have taken on Lennox in this campaign in a debate and make his point because he has led this country…”

Dr. Benjamin went on to say he thinks Linton is more intelligent than Skerrit because Linton has “so much common sense.”

“I see Lennox Linton by far a much more intelligent,” he stated. “See what happened at Melville Hall. He threw out the possibility of going to Melville Hall and as soon as he saw the reaction, as any intelligent human being or animal, he says, no we must not go anymore, that is going to play into their hands.”

He continued, “so he may not have the degrees… but what he has is common sense and my mother always told me, you can go Grammar School if you want, but common sense beats education, you can get all the degrees you want, if you don’t have common sense you cannot make it. Mr Linton have far more common sense.”

Benjamin said he listened to Skerrit at a DLP rally in Lagon on Tuesday night and he thinks the prime minister has conceded that he is going to lose the election.

“I listened to the entire speech last night of the prime minister and i think he conceded that he is going to lose the election. He says to the people don’t come to me and cry when Mr. Linton becomes the prime minster,” he stated. “Now I found that amazing. You don’t concede five days before the election, particularly if you are the incumbent.”

Skerrit is scaired. He would not take on the debate in the campaign because he is not as intelligent as Mr. Lennox Linton. He, Skerrit would not be able to comprehend the terms that Mr. Linton would address. I compare these two, to Bush and Obama. There is no way Bush is as intelligent as President Obama. So, Skerrit is backing off, so he wont peeeee his pants and protect himself from further embarrassment. Thank you. Good luck UWP. YOU have won. I know it already.

We have three more days for the rest to show their faces. I admire the Doc. Why stay hidden? Show your true colors. Be proud of whom you support.

At least the DLP knows for sure who they have been dealing with; no more guessing. I would think the next best thing for the Doc to do is hand in his resignation on December 9th because the Dominica Labour Party will form the next government. I would think after this coming out he would no longer want to work for a Skerrit lead government. Makes reasonable sense.

His coming out will not change anyone mind as to how we are voting, that is why we have a democracy in our land; we can vote for whom ever we want. But there is a big difference in how we vote which is normally private and how we respect our employer and our jobs. The two are entirely different.

Poor Doubting Thomas. Do you follow American politics and elections? Members within the party criticize their own party for poor policies. We need to grow up and let the debate go on. All views must contend. Dr. Benjamin is a great Dominican. “To whom much is given, from whom much is expected”. Too many professionals sit on the fence and look at wrong and injustice and remain silent. We need more people like Dr. Benjamin on both sides of the political divide to express opinions without fear of being victimized or labelled. Where are the mentors for our youth? No wonder so many of our youth are so disconnected. They need to demand answers from our politicians!!!!!!!!1

This is not right. Doctor benjamin is supposed to be a psychologist , and one should very well know the influence a psychologist can have on people with weak minds. This is unethical in so many ways…………shame on you doctor benjamin, using your power to influence people politically……..there is no way i would go to you for a psychological evaluation

“seriously?”, no wonder the Labour party decided to use the unsuspecting doctor in a photo to mislead those weak minds. Guess they figured he would just accept it as is and leave those weak minds with the wrong impression. I am glad the plan backfired. Kudos to you Dr Benjamin for exposing their evil plot.

“Me”, the Labour party should have known not to use this public figure in a photo to deceive the public and to destroy a UWP candidate. That is how low Labour will go. Dr Benjamin had every right to speak out under the circumstances.

Thank you Dr Benjamin This is not our fight for our country this is God hand working to bring in people like urself to educate the dominican electorate.
    > I agree with you that the leader of the UWP is very well verse in a many areas and one does not neccessarily needs a degree to lead,by the organisation of lennox campaign strategy you can tell he is going to represent one of the best that Dominica has to offer, with lennox at the negotiating table Dominica will get high ratings. I know of a friend who admits she had to write a letter to a some high department of government and copied to a high level official outside of Dominica the letter was drafted and send to five people for editing, A high school principal, a primary school principal,a canadian law student, a lawyer and lennox linton the views presented by lennox was so well articulated in that letter it received so much praise. so put your faith in team Dominica and vote good leadership and good governance. i firmly believe that power corrupts and if dominican continue with that foolishness if not skerrit who else we are turning Dominica into a one man show. After 15 years of skerrit it is time for change

We labourites are truly thinking with our Heads and that’s why we have everything to think our our beloved Country, family to ensure that the UWP doesn’t see the reigns of Office here in Dominica ever again. DNO I think you should explain the context of Dr. Benjamin’s statements. You should explain that he only came to make these statements because members of the labour party made certain statements about him in relation to Joshua Francis. As it is your article suggests that Dr. Benjamin just all of a sudden came out of the blue and declared how he was going to vote and did Dr Benjamin say he was voting for UWP or for Joshua Francis?

    Thank you.

    December 4, 2014

Dr. Benjamin it appears that your decision to switch is based on your analysis of statements made by Mr. Skeritt, some of which you have quoted. As an educated idividual with common sense, did you also do an analysis of some of the statements made by the leader of the party which you now intend to vote. Just to remind you the Leader of the UWP refered to young people as PROSTITUTES, verbally ATTACKED a female Journalist, threatened to disanoint a pastor, some of his main supporters have refered to the Bishop as a BLOODSUCKER. The anger of your new leader is legendary. These things don’t factor into your reasoning, so you are just changing based on your right to vote for a candidate or party of your choice, nothing wrong with that. Your attempt at applying reason to your decision is total rubbish.

One question I would really like to be answered. DA’s general election is just a few days away. Yet up until this time, the PLP of the country, hasn’t gotten the debate that they have been asking for. Why is it so difficult, to let the PLP of dominica listen and know the different views and opinions of the two?????PM and UWP. Those are either of the two who will b in power. Guys, think with your heads. Person who say common sense bits all, that’s a fact, bc in this 21 century, regardless of how many degrees you’ve got, that don’t say much, we are undermined by the uncertainty of achieving what we want, bc of corruption, bribery, and unfairness of those in POWER. Be your own person, we all have a brain to know what we would want @ this point in time. Dominica is, and has remained stagnant, and the change we need for this beautiful country, is for the better, economically, creating jobs for those who have got the qualifications needed. One thing for sure, don’t let the poor get poorer. Opportunities can’t be one sided. Forward is a must for this country. Nevertheless, we will be all feeling it, in the near future. We are all under the same umbrella. THINK PPL, when casting your votes on Monday. PRAY FOR DA..

To me both parties have the wrong men in leadership, the labour party made a mistake in not changing the leader, and workers well Lennox will do as he has a team to help him. Every one have to start somewhere.
The Party which loses must respect the electoral wishes and conceed defeat. No more talk about heating because no one is cheating. The election rules are fair. there is no bribery going on. So campaign vote the best candidates and no matter which government wins the world will continue rotating around the sun, and rain will fall and the sun and moon will give their light by day and night. well all the Marigot nd Wesley people coming out for the Marigot boy. Labour can still win but the majority will be reduced. I am not certain who will win,but the PM sounded real tire,so he does need a rest , and so it does not matter if Lennox win,if he is no good then Dominicans can always throw him out as they did Eddison.

I always thought common sense beat education. I remembered when I was a young man, a union official that always impressed me with common sense was one time President of WAWU, Mr. Louis Beniot. Louis was very uneducated, he never used big terms, most of the time he spoke patois, but whenever he sat around a table to negotiate with all those shipping big boys he always got what he wanted for his union members. On many occasions, bright men in Dominica would marvel at the amount of common sense he possessed. These days we don’t have men like Benoit in Dominica, because all kind of man believe once they come from college or university, they know it all. Mr. Edward Leblanc and Christopher Loblack had no university or college education, all they relied on was pure common sense.

Linton and members of his Party have made many derogatory comments, even threats against the PM and his cabinet. Now you are stating that you have turned against DLP?
Come on, Dr. Benjamin! For an educated man you should know better than that to be a Yo Yo, Party hopping. You cannot even make up your mind and for good. I am informing you, you have made a grave error.
In addition, why did you find it necessary to go to a Radio Station to voice your opinion which is posted on DNO? Who really cares? You have an ulterior motive for stating this. I hope you will not live to regret your decision.

I also listened to the speach, the good Doctor has the right like all of us to vote for the candidate of his choice. He does not have to explain or give any reason for his choice. The PM spoke for close to 30 minutes explaining why his party should be reelected and asking the people to vote DLP, however Dr Benjamin took part of a sentence of this presentation and claimed that Skerritt had conceded to loosing the election, a total misrepresentation. The Doctor has spoken> Let labourites talk now! Long time, the PM showing signs of a man who has no commonsensical wisdom and is sharp or philosophical when using his brain…..
Yes according the learned psychiatrist Dr Benji, Mr Skerrit is very decisive but that’s not all the qualities needed to be a leader. Perhaps Mr Skerritt has succumbed to the temptation of sudden gush of wealth and prosperity. He is now addicted to wealth and riches….Its like a drugggggggggg… Its very evident by the ammount of riches and the luxurious house and other items owned by a once very very very poor young man from the neck of the woods in the north……..
Mr Skerrit in reality has lost it in every way…………………… He is a perfect example of the many problems that come the way of super stars around the world….. He doesnot know what he is about now,,, the PM calling has elluded him most blatantly… Its a very bad, Dominicans should read the Book entitled: Learning to be Man by Barry Chevannes….
Skerrit and his group of advisors- who are getting him into much hot water- are just running Dominica like a rogue state with laws only to defend their wrong doings.
Skerritt, is manifesting signs of a controlling and vindictive young man…. Mr Skerrit seems to be a stranger to the truth and very manipulative in many ways. Its like he is the center of gravity: young must come to him, boys must come to him, girls must come to him, Old must come to him, sick must come to him,,,,, He is like the father of the nation a title that he bestowed upon himself…..
At last minute, all one is hearing from the labour party especially their leader is just untruths, mapweey, billboards, big bands entertaining people…………………… Imagine, this Pastor from the UsA came to Dominica and tellling people he wanna be on the winning side…. I like his music, but was very disappointed that a pastor could come to a country during elections and technically campaigning for Labour. These are all signs of things to come…… But one thing, Dominicans are the worst in the world, to be stomaching years of hardship, poverty, backwardness, crime and violence, and even rampant abuse of poor people through sewo, sewo, and Money just moving around for a few month….
The majority of Dominicans are very very poor and really don’t have money to do what they are to do. If they have a conscience, they would never ever vote labour because they have crippled the country…
When i think of Dame Eugenia, Rossie, Mike we like, Pierro, Eddison James and the other great leaders its a disgrace to see the labour leadership and papishow.
Pooooooor Skerrriiiitt, Poooooor Labour because its like the blind leading the blind………….. The labour party and their campaign team needs deliverance, that’s what the Pastor from the USA should have told them and exorcise themmmmmm………….
If Skerritt was so confident, why bribing voters and playing on the poor peoples minds, Dominicans like to much freeness……………………..
Last thing,,,,,,, there is a group of labour supporters who doesn’t care for Dominica, but just voting so as to be kept being fed by the state financially and so forth…. Theyyyy are singing for their supperrrrrr and its
the town that the list is very wrong…
well said Dr Benjiiiiiiii,,,,,, let them know their placeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. One Love Dr Benjiiiii

    December 3, 2014

Mr. Dr. Benjamin, you see it is really funny that most time you hear this phrase being used, “common sense beats education”, it is used by an educated individual who tries to appease a “not so educated individual”. With all the common sense you have, would you have been admitted to school to become a doctor? While we all have heard this phrase at some point in our lives, we live in a world where common sense can’t get you a job. Have you ever heard the expression that “fathers send their sons to college either because they went to college, or because they didn’t”? (L.L Hendren). Given a choice, I will chose an educated man any day of a man with no education because an educated man has the ability to listen to almost anything without losing his temper or his self-confidence. I can’t say the same for a man with common sense. I guess there will always be educated men like you who think that you have not gotten your due diligence from the current DLP or was snubbed in some way and feel that not voting for Skerritt will make you feel better. That being the case, vote on my brother.

    • Consider...
      December 4, 2014

Consider this: Education is valuable only when one is able to reason. Moreover, to be able to reason effectively, one requires common sense. One can become quite knowledgeable when both reasoning and commonsense are articulated, especially since these traits are innate. An educated man may be slow to anger because he possesses these traits. A lack of education is certainly no hindrance to conquer societal inventions…people do not need to be confined to a formal educational system to become “educated” or well-respected. Some of the most successful people in the history of our culture never attended college. They read, explore, ask questions, learn from experience and discuss subject matter with people who have different perspectives or share similar interests. While education is important, it’s equally important to analyze what we truly value in education. If it’s success that we value, one’s potential should not be devalued because they do not possess a college degree. Just ask the likes of Henry Ford, Bill Gates, and Michael Dell.

The things some of you have stated about the PM. Where on earth would you be justified to state this and not be arrested and asked to prove your words? You find fault in him. Find fault in yourself and the others like yourself. This is why I state some of you non DLP supporters are not fair.

And where on earth would a person like Linton get into office for all the bad comments he has made like calling minister rapists, calling women prostitutes, calling the vulnerable greedy. Come on. You can support your party but both have said things that were not nice.

Dr. Benjamin can choose to vote for Lennox if he wants but he should not come on public radio and say that he is Labourite. He is not.

cant understand why people who say that they are so smart or intelligent are so irrational, unbalanced, provocative, violent, disruptive, disrespectful, unmannerly and wicked in their attempt to win votes and a general election. You all disregard the law of the land simply because you have lost the fight. what is that you all did not receive from Skerrit that you all hate them man so much. Doc come better than that, you are free to vote for whoever you want that is your right. However the reasons you are giving for not voting Labour is bias, based on the fact that you have only analysed statements and actions of Skeritt. What about the statements made by the leader of the UWP and his agressive and hostile attitude when cofronted with certain situations. The leader of the party which you now support refered to the young people of Dominica as PROSTITUTES, some of his top supporters refered to the Bishop as a BLOODSUCKER. the leader of the party which you now support has threatened to disannoint a pastor. Based on what you are saying it looks as if you have jumped from the frying pan into the fire.

While everyone as the right to choose in a democratic society, what I have a problem with is a civil servant, regardless of which party you support, being so blatant as to their political comments. Isn’t there a rule that civil servants are not suppose to brandish political colours and get so directly involved in politics on a such a wide scale? At 8am shouldn’t he have been at the hospital doing morning rounds like he is being paid to do by the Government? He could have simply come on air and addressed the issue of the photo which was taken of him and Mr. Francis and let that end there. Being a civil servant I don’t think it was right for him to go around calling names which he is politically affiliated to. If the DLP wins and he and the other doctor get sacked for being so politically entwined, I hope they will not cry victimization, because there are rules against that. Do correct me if I am wrong. Or is their reason for showing their political prowess due to the face that they are respectfully the only Dominicans on island trained in their respectful fields, there for making it difficult for any government to sack them, hence they feel they have a bit more wiggle room than the average civil servant? Hmmmm

Is it okay for civil servants to openly support the Labour Party and call the radio stations and go on the platforms? Since Skerrit has come into office it appears he has signalled it is okay to lie, cheat, steal and be unethical. I mean just look at that blatant lie about Labour not paying for voters airfares. Certainly, it’s clear that the majority of the country is awakened with all what’s going on in the country. Doctor Benjamin is on point in Layman’s term. I hope the Laborites put that one to rest about Mr. Linton’s capacity to lead. The time is now for every citizen of the land to have a good look in the mirror, and ask his or herself, is this what you want to continue for your child’s future?

This is not about Laborites, Freedomites, UWPites, it is about Dominicanites. We are witnessing a regime that is becoming bold in its action against the constitution and against the people of the land. The supporters are misguided by their leader who said, “No law, no constitution can stop him.” So what do we expect? Go figure!

Just like many of the old civil servants who left high school with 7 GCEs got jobs got appointed and never improved themselves. And after 15/20 years became useless walls in key positions. That is why Dominica has fallen behind the rest of the OECS/Caribbean.

Now you have touched a nerve. Wesley and Marigot people do not like neither are we seeking attention. You are forced to give us the attention even if we do not seek it because of our intelligence, Common sense, ambitions, honesty, integrity, loyalty and independence. You give us attention because we are capable of reasoning, understanding, and intelligent analysis of issues. Lastly, you give us that attention because when you look at your reflection in the mirror you realize that Marigot and Wesley people have all the qualities that any sensible person should aspire to. However instead of aspiring to attain such and believe that you are capable of the same you cloud your path of someone who you would like to be, Roosevelt Skerrit, because it is easier to have him think for you instead of you thinking for yourself.
Wake up, be ambitious and strive to be like a Marigot or Wesley person and then you will get the attention that comes naturally to Wesley and Marigot people instead to be left in the shadows craving the said attention.

However to ensure that I get published on DNO, I have implied that the elections will be close, but I sincerely believe that UWP will take it.

The organisational ability of Team Dominica is head and shoulders above DLP. If this one does not put things in perspective for the few Labor Supporters still blindly following Roosevelt Skerrit, then I just don’t know what will. My fellow Dominicans, this switching of allegiances by some of the most prominent Labor Stalwarts is a clear indication that Dominica is at a crossroad where each and EVERY Citizen must decide between right and wrong, between obedience to the law and lawlessness, between honesty, integrity and transparency and lies, corruption and secrecy in Government and, last but not least, between Democracy and Communism.
The issues of the economy, foreign policy and national security, though important, are really not the most important factors in this election. The most important factor is saving Dominica from a man in the name of Roosevelt Skerrit who is hell-bent on taking away the freedoms, independence and sovereignty of ALL Dominican Citizens. A man that has allowed power to get to his head in the worst way. A man that has shown his willingness to use all the Institutions of the State to suppress the will of the People. A man that opposes dissent and victimizes anyone who dares to speak against him.
Laborites, we need you to wake up and start looking at things without red colored lenses. Our PM is winding out of control. No Dominican can afford to allow the Prime Minister to take Dominica down the same path as Cuba, Syria, North Korea and other Countries where only one man and a few of his close friends control the people indefinitely. If this is allowed to happen, whether you believe it or not, Labor supporters will feel it too. Why? Because in a Communist System there is NO middle class. If you are not part of the Elite Ruling Class, you are in the same boat with everyone else, blue, red, black, green or yellow!!!

  82. Barbara Saunders
    December 3, 2014

    Now Good Sir,
    Number one,
I am not sure whether you had done a similar public disclosure when your support was with the labour party, but why should the public care where you as an individual plan to cast your vote? I thought that would be a private matter. Look at the lengths that the electoral process goes through to ensure that you exercise that right in privacy. Any intelligent person should immediately look for the hidden agenda of this public disclosure and a few others that I have seen in this last week leading up to the election day.

Number two, since you are an employee of the state, I suppose you have thought about how you intend to continue serving the government “professionally” in the event that the Labour Party is re-elected, or have you completely ruled out that possibility? That’s the purpose of the restrictions contained in the laws of the public service governing public political activity. They are geared at protection of the same people who seem to be doing everything to discard that protection. When you openly behave as a politician, you forfeit that protection and must prepare yourself for the eventuality of a political response and outcome, right?

    Number three
So an intelligent person makes blunder after blunder then withdraws/flip flops after he sees the reaction of intelligent people?

    – The President has been illegally elected to office in breach of the Constitution and should not be acknowledged or recognised. (Even lay people on reviewing the procedures contained in the constitution are still looking for the breach)
    – Children of Dominica, boycott the youth rally! (dragging children into national disrespect and defiance of authority)
    – Dominicans, don’t attend the National parade of uniformed groups and other cultural expressions which we have grown to love so much and which people like Raymond Lawrence worked so hard to inculcate in the population. ( He has to turn this on its head and even attend along with his team in 2014)
    – Beneficiaries of the government’s social programmes are greedy, not needy and young people prostitute themselves for assistance from the public purse. (When the people react, it now becomes part of his plans and he even promises to expand on the programmes. I guess there will be a blue clinic?

    – Ministers of Government are rapists ( He is now facing a law suit)
    – He spends money like it comes easy to lead a team in the dead of winter to cities in North America and Europe and the Caribbean to paint Dominica as the worst place on earth to be and the people as the most mendicant and disadvantaged. The economy likewise is the worst in the hemisphere. (He then turns around and promises the same people to shoot the economy to the stars when he takes office with almost no taxes to be paid and a heaven on earth to be created in quick time! Really?)

    – He badmouths Presidents, Bishops, Evangelists, Journalists, Churches, members of his own team that he wishes to discard, just about everybody, (but he really means well and has the welfare of Dominica at heart including those he badmouths)

    – He breaches the election bribery laws by making offers of money to specific groups of public and police officers who are employees of the state if they elect his party to office and then he turns around and leads a campaign against lawfully registered Dominicans living overseas who are exercising their right to come to Dominica to vote.

    – To crown it all, one week before elections he calls on thousands of supporters to find their way down to the airport to confront Dominicans returning home to vote, a few weeks after his own party was pointing out their perceived danger of an organised state event of renaming the airport, even to the extent of warning people about the risks and hazards of driving on the new highway style Paygua road if they were to participate in the re-naming event.

    – When the security forces react and plan to defuse or prevent anarchy, he presides over the airing of a recording on Q 95 of the Chief of Police giving instructions to his men (senior police leaking security details to a radio station, the trend for the future of national security?) and then is forced to call off the demonstration.

These are just a few examples of the judgement and decision-making abilities of the Leader whom you are promoting and for whom you are putting your private voting privilege and professionalism on the line. Of course, in a democracy, every man to his own order and perhaps if I were to list gaffes that the Labour Party leader has made the list may be longer or just as long but it is not about him is it? For me it is about the one who is asking me to remove that one and put him instead. That’s where my concentration is so I can determine whether I will be doing Dominica a favour with my vote or dealing her with the opposite outcome.

That’s why, variety is the spice of life and we can’t all think and behave the same right? And that is why we all have the privilege of determining what is intelligence and what is not!

I do wish Dominica all the best, because after December 08, we all have to live here! Well except those who work in Geneva and Washington and come in to talk at the opportune moment.

Excellent! As I keep saying, who would want to vote for someone as that? If he wins, God forbid this should happen, I will feel extremely sorry for Dominicans. My strong instinct informs me that this person will not make a suitable leader. Dominica would be down in the dumps. I will say a special prayer for Dominica and nationals that they vote wisely. PM Skerrit would make a better, by far Prime Minister of Dominica.
Lord, you who know see and hear all things and whom nothing is hidden from, please grant us our wish for the benefit of all Dominican nationals. Thank you Lord!

Well said Dr. This is the most intelligent post I have read in a long time. Now we know that when people take their constituents and put them in position over more senior people, especially when they have not a clue, yes not a clue about health.. Glad you saw the light and voting with the man with common sense. One of our first order is to unappoint all those high ups that were appointed in the last year because of political affiliation. Start from the top PM Linton.

When Tim Tim and Bannis moved over to the DLP, Skeritt thought it was the end of the UWP. In infact, he tried to convince Dominicans that he would govern Dominica for the next several years. Little did he know, a deliverer nicked named triple L, Leader Lennox Linton, like the Dice said, was waiting to take over the leadership of the country at the right time, which is now. In appears, very soon, the novice, uneducated high school drop out, a fraud, a nonentity, as referred to by Skeritt, will be sending him into hibernation for a long time. I say a long time. When Vince handed over his well established St. Joseph constituency seat, that was a plan, maybe without the knowledge of Skeriit, to advance his education with the intension of returning to Dominica in order discard him from the leadership of the DLP. When Skeritt looses the election on December 8th, he is gone politically, maybe, maybe , he might return as the President of Dominica in the year 2035.

Wow! I am voting with my head this time. Mr Linton is far superior than Mr Skerrit. As an academic person, I think Mr Skerrit has taken us as fools in this country. Power has corrupted him absolutely. He will pay the solemn price for his greed and arrogance. We are on our way to deliverance from this corrupt regime. They will answer question.

    December 3, 2014

Thanks Dr, Benjamin, that was my exact reaction to Mr. Skerrit speech, I felt the meeting was that of tired men who knew they were losing. I will give the labour Party credit for the work it did in the 15year of being in power, as an objective , unbiased observer, the Labour Party did what it could however, they have ran out of steam, and it is now time for the people of Dominica to move forward, towards true democracy and not the feudal past of the Skerritt regime, I am a life-long labourite, as my parents were founder members of the labour party, but after listening to last night compared to the workers party meeting I too conceded that the Labour Party had done what they had to do and now they must be removed by the people of Dominica for new blood to revigorate the economy and bring true prosperity to Dominica, prosperity which can be sustained with effort and hard work.
So Dominicans do not let fear prevent you from voting for the UWP. Linton may not have paper qualifications but he is not uneducated. He is not a boy and yes he has a team not a dictatorship but a team of qualified ministers who will take Dominica forward unlike the dictatorship of Skerrit and that evil, evil, evil, man Charles Savarin, Old labourites, remember Charles Saverin had only one goal self-preservation, so he sold out the freedom party after he destroyed Dominica and the Labour Party and a second time he has destroyed what the Labour party and Leblance stood for. Vote UWP all over Dominica, let us get that landslide victory but let it be blue , blue I love you.

I am done with such a remark…. The progessive this country as made is due in part to the DLP administration.

There are some people that belive that they are not part of the progessive so they will do what ever it takes to derail the DLP administration.

I wish to state his criticism of the Prime Minister is more childish that what Mr.Edison James and Mr.Skerrit has said or done.

Now, that is a typical example of an independent minded person. One can be a Labourite and vote for another candidate or party and any given time, if they are looking at the issues and putting Dominica first. I have looked at both parties in the running right now and both have some good candidates but UWP is superior to the DLP when it comes to candidates with credentials.

However, I am still undecided and may have to complete my review of both manifestos before I can endorse a party. Tentatively, I am leaning towards supporting individuals as opposed to party and as direct result; I will have candidates from both parties that I think will be in the country’s best interest.

Oh MY GOSH. You’ve just expressed everything I have been thinking for the past few weeks. Welcome aboard Dr. Benjamin. Misplaced loyalties will not take us forward. We must put country first in everything we do. It is a free country, and I applaud your stance. Not many are as brave as you to do this publicly. I agree with you 100% and I will be voting the UWP even if my family cannot be persuaded otherwise. Dominicans need to stop blindly following parties and look at the relevant issues affecting our country. Sometimes I am just amazed at the level of stupidity…all these funds being spent on the campaign but some of us University students are not able to graduate because of non payment of fees by the government. This government is not concerned about us as the future of Dominica. And that…made me change my views towards them, among many other things. Beware, however, you are going to be placed under a lot of pressure and victimization from party supporters.

Sounds like the good doctor is infatuated with Linton. I agree with his conclusion though, for a couple of reasons:
    1) Never let a political party take your vote for granted. This is what is happening to the black community in America.
    2) It is wise for a country to change it’s government every few terms to keep from falling into dictatorship.

Couldn’t be better said. Dominicans need to change their mentality. Hey need to think, think, think for themselves . Do not let any one man take your mind. Think f your children’s futures. Analyze for yourself. You don’t need a PhD to do that. Common sense wins every time. Education is great. I am well educated. But I use Godly wisdom and common sense much more than any degree, every Ttime. Rise Dominicans, rise. Skerrit will take you down with him.

I have echoed similar thoughts for some time now. Dominicans appear to still embrace the historical and fundamental beliefs which made the labour party. We have cherished the social safety nets, positive discrimination, higher education, fundamental human rights, the place of the family and the role of the ordinary man in society and the economy. That’s some of the things which make up the labour party. I believe that most of us in Dominica are Labourites! But it does not end there. Being a Labourite does not automatically translate to voting the shoe. You see, those who lead the party determine how Labourites vote. When Labourites no longer identify with the leadership of the party, they vote, but not for the party. And this is what will happen next Monday. There is an implosion taking place right now; an implosion fuelled by a leadership crisis, value corruption and loads of unanswered questions. So, me too! I voting UWP!

      yes of course,

It is good for some of you to come out in the open instead of hiding behind DAIC and DEF and arranging debates five days before election and asking the public for their opinion on debates without telling them who will be the moderator, what is the format, who will be posing the questions etc. In the US Presidential debates they select their best and most brilliant media personnel to conduct the proceedings and have a series of debates on various aspects of governance. What was intended here?

Anyway, I just fail to see what business it is of mine or anyone else where Achille Chris Joseph intends to vote. What is his locus standi in the national scheme of things? All I can see is an attempt to try to persuade voters in a certain direction but I urge voters to weigh all that they have seen and heard in the balance and let that guide their decision on Monday 08.
