Linton thinks election process was tainted

Linton said the election process was tainted
Linton said the election process was tainted

While noting that the United Workers Party (UWP) had fought a good fight in the just concluded general election, leader of the party, Lennox Linton said the process that led to the result was tainted.

“This election is as a result of a process that we are all aware was tainted,” he told privately-owned Q95.

Preliminary result from the general election, which was held on Monday, showed the Dominica Labour Party winning 15 of the 21 parliamentary seats in Dominica. The UWP won the next six.

According to Linton, the process leading to the results “was tainted with behaviors that really have no place in a democracy.”

“But we continue to tolerate them and we continue to blame the opposition for not being able to do anything about it,” he said.

He said it doesn’t matter how much “we shout ourselves hoarse that bribery is wrong, that bribery is contrary to the latent spirit of Section 55 of the House of Assembly Elections Act, we continue to have bribery, we continue to have irregularities in terms of people brought from overseas coming in to vote.”

He noted that many who came from overseas to vote did not meet the criteria for casting ballots in Dominica but were allowed to vote.

Linton wondered whether the mandate now recieved by prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, will allow him to give the people free and fair elections.

“Or is it that we are going to wait another five years and then he will repeat the same procedure again because that is how you win elections in Dominica,” he pointed out.

He noted that the election has come and gone “leaving us with issues to resolve” such as the violating of the election code of conduct put together by the Christian Council.

He remarked that the UWP fought the good fight during the campaign.

“We are proud of the campaign that we ran, we hope that we have set an example for others to follow,” Linton said.

He hopes that the next time around “we are not going to be denigrated and dehumanized, and set aside by members of Mr. Skerrit’s political organization because that was the stock in trade of the election that has just ended.”

Election reform has serious implication. Why someone residing out of his/her Constituency present his constituents? Why when there is a village reunion most people involved are living overseas? Why we always call on them to make a contribution? Why we tell them dont forget where they came from? Why their money in the banks help others? Why we tell them come back home? Why we tell to buy land and build? Why we cannot have absentee ballots? Why we treat them as outcast? Why they cannot be involved in Nation building?I would like to know why a elected official lived overseas while he was a member of parliament?

If the Prime Minister felt secure in his practices over the past few years, he would not have needed plane loads from the diaspora to come and vote. Many of these people have no interest in investing in Dominica. They probably don’t even send a barrel home at christmas. The election was not fair. It was bought! Dominicans don’t understand what to look for in a leader, therefore they don’ know how to select a leader. The prime minister needs to look at CNN when other world leaders give speeches, and emulate them. There’s no cheap shots! strictly professional. Why bring people to vote who board a plane and never look back? They are not the ones who will face the hardships that continue to plague the island.
All the money wasted to buy the election could’ve been used to fix roads, the hospitals, open training centers, fix school, and pay the mountain of debt that Dominica has. Lazy, unambitious people who always want hand outs, are the lost gullible ones who can’t see past the foolery. We are going further down the drain, and the day will come when some people will finally see the light, but I’m sure it’ll be too late! Those who have no escape plan will eat grass like cows, if the grass is still green. ZOR FINI BAT!!!!

Tainted or not, there was good and bad in the outcome. Good that the most promising young politician in Dominica won the opportunity to gain legislative experience and learn the art of parliamentary debate; for that I congratulate Joshua Francis. Good that the people thought it wise not to re-elect Ambrose George, a veritable disgrace to Dominican politics for the last several years. Good that Lennox Linton was given the opportunity to hone his political skills as Leader of the Opposition and add intelligently to debate in the House of Assembly, bad for the UWP that Grand Bay, Portsmouth, Calibishie and Castle Bruce voted against the notion that DLP was responsible for the dire state of the economy in those agricultural communities. Bad that Roseau emerged with no credible representation and good that DLP will have a great opportunity to concentrate on the rehabilitation of the city in collaboration with the Mayor. Overall, it was the best of choices and the worst of choices according to Charles Dickens. The noisiest authorities swore that “change is a must” and the loudest detractors plugged their ears while the dispensing the vilest profanities upon the PM in the superlative degree. To claim that the UWP lost because of cheating is a statement of desperate expediency and churlish immaturity; but labour’s work is never done. La luta continua!

    December 11, 2014

Based on the figures reported the total number of people who voted amounted to 41,408. The real victory in the 2014 general elections favored the UWP and I will explain why. Now for an analysis of the 2014 general elections. In 2009, UWP captured a total of 12660 votes (3 seats), DLP captured 22235 votes (18 seats). In 2014 UWP captured 17639 votes (6 seats) an increase of 4979 votes. In 2014 DLP captured 23769 votes an increase of 1534. The UWP had an increase of 28.2% while the DLP had an increase of 6.45%. Speaking about the 3500 diasporas. If there was no influx of the diaspora the DLP would have captured a total of 20269 votes based on the above figures. That would have demonstrated their lost of support with a decease of 1966 of their 2009 votes. So do the maths, the UWP are the only victors in this election. Congratulation guys great job, keep pushing there is definitely light at the end of this obviously very dark tunnel. This is a progress to inevitable change. Please do not give up, not everyone accepts change, so give the rest of them who didn’t vote for UWP some time to ponder. Expect trouble as an inevitable part of life and repeat to yourself the most comforting words of all; this, too, shall pass.

Enlighten me Mr. Linton what was so tainted about the election. Was it the distribution of bribery money -rolled up and bound with rubber bands- by your party’s representative in virgin Lane on Saturday? Was it the campaign of “Skerrit is the anti-christ…666” with no significant issues to talk about or CHANGE? Was it the fact that the very Christian Council that you spoke of, comprised of members who are ‘BLOOD SUCKERS’ as well as some who personally need to have the OINTMENT OF THEIR ANOINTMENT removed? And just in case you were not aware of it, some visiting Dominicans who did not meet the criteria for voting came across on a UWP ticket. So I guess I agree with you, the elections were in fact tainted.

  10. December 11, 2014

It was never a level playing field UWP never stood a chance. Fight for Thompson seat, demonstrate every day outside the house of assembly this is democracy. Nip it 8 the bud if justice can not be served it will get worse not better over the next 5 year’s.

When you have a situation where the leader of the country is also the minister of finance, controls the courts and has no term limitation, you have a dictator. Plain and simple. And a dictator will make sure that he stays in power with whatever it takes. Term limits should have been introduced long ago.

tsk, tsk, tsk. UWP supporters keep making comments about a fair election but they don’t seem to take note or keep in mind that Lennox Linton & the UWP did as well pay for persons to come back down to vote. Listen to your news people. The US ambassador to D/CA was appealing to both sides of the party to stop paying tickets for persons to come down to vote. So PLEASE stop the hypocrisy!!!! BOTH sides did it!!! Now the election is over and we have 5 more years. Roosevelt Skerrit has done more for us than Eddison James & his band of idiots have ever done. The only person on the UWP side with a brain is Joshua Francis.

The roads look good and the houses on the hills look good but everyone by roadside drinking – alcholism has become the norm. Mr Pinard has gotten financially FAT – big houses, lot of land and these fools in the village screaming ” Labor Working”. I say shame on my people. We had plans for investing in Pointe Michel to put peoiple back to work and your own DLP – killed that dream. They want to keep these people drunk and uneducated. I have washed my hands off Pointe Michel. There is no olive branch here. Waht is going on in Dominica saddens me . It is a display of decay of education and the increasing drug use and alcoholism and unemployment. The rich soild above La Pte goes to waste while the young sons of the land asking for their SEWO……..SAD!!!!!

The reasons why they lost is that a lot of people here in DA don’t want to bother to vote, the old registers were never purged, the poor were given a small payoff, and diaspora were chartered in to vote, plus the IMF funded the DLP election.

The Government of Dominica today is an international government not a colony that is left to its own affairs… we are in charge of our destiny and Skeritt has realized it, that is why he is the best man for the job at this time.

The desperation to steal the elections could be vividly seen. No electoral reforms, no FREE and FAIR elections. No prayer could prevent those willing to cheat. The “illuminati’s” spell on the Wednesday, church service/ sashing by the Secret Order Society of the Catholic Faith from Rome, was stronger.

Sections of Dominicans in 2014 decide to embrace cheating, stealing, fraud, illegalities, disobedience of the electoral Laws. Plain and simple. Experimenting with DICTATORSHIP a la Haiti. In Haiti, all institutions, Judicial, Police, news media, Trade unions, were controlled by dictators Papa and Baby Doc. It was systemmatic. It began with small steps of injustices, illegal acts, greed, lust for power, quick wealth by dubious means by a few unscrupulous men and women. The entire country became impoverished, bloated with corruption.

Reminder. Haiti was the first Black country to liberate itself from chattel slavery. Toussaint L’Ouverture and the Haitian freedom fighters defeated the mighty French Army of Bonaparte.

The cabal fraid investigations and court cases. Well, Fire-bombing case close. The case of 42 charges of fraud filed by Mano close. IPO cannot interview Skerritt to make sure re. his declaration of his assets to them. Judicial Review granted by the court to Skerritt’s lawyers block IPO.

Imagine, the same OAS, which recommended in 2009 elections that reforms are seriously necessary to prevent irregularities in 2014, concluded that elections were FREE and FAIR, even though the things to make it FREE and FAIR were not implemented. Reforms were resisted and blocked. We all know the events. What Nation finds comfort in and rejoices actions that are not righteous, fair and corrupt? Mental Slavery has turned many into Zombies. So many have lost their reason.

Can anyone imagine in 2014, teachers, educators, “professionals” “Big” men and women in Dominica support Skerritt and DLP in their foolishness about not debating an opposing politician? Scared to the bone about questions of bad governance, corruption, quick wealth, secret passport sales, etc., etc.,

Just observing you ask for the evidence of bribery well let me tell you it was recognise that ambrose was going to lose his seat and so hastily the government decided to build some apartments in Fly city , silver lake, and here is the bribery the apartments were given free no rent no price to the inhabitants, Both Leblance and Patrick John started the housing revolution in Dominica, better housing for people with improved sanitation, but it was dole to the people at a manageable price, the government then made it possible for the people to have work and be able to get soft loans to pay thus retaining their dignity and sense of achievement. In this case the unemployed should be given housing assistance and a low rent, not free housing this does not help a nation to grow economically, it does not encourage enterprise, it encourages dependency and abuse from the benefactor. When the benefactor feels that because he has given you some money he can demand from you, sexual favours or your vote, and if you do not comply with his demands you are called ungrateful. Patrick John our first PM did not use benevolence or his position of PM to abuse the people thus, he gave them homes which they had to pay for so they had a legacy for their children , yet the Freedomites and the St. Mary Academy and those who wanted power incited the people against him. He was replaced with 15 years of brain drain, lost of the banana industry lost of the copra industry , lost of the will to self-determine and the only government which tried to resume our industries the UWP was again undermined by the same group, the freedomites to regain power this time using the name of the Dominica Labour Party. Today the Pm has ruled by selling Dominica to the Catholic church and he openly stated he believed in Church and state union well Dominicans prophecy has to be fulfilled and it has started in Dominica. The union of church and state will usher in the persecution of those who do not accept lost of their will to think and disagree.

Mr Linton I know that you are disappointed, I hear the frustration in your voice and your sense of helplessness. It must be really hard for you to fight against a force that is evil and no easily destroyed, because in reality the United worker party would have gained more seats, if not won the election if voter were not brought in to vote for the DLP. Mr Linton you ran a really good race, I am proud of you and your party. After reading you manifesto I was pretty sure that the United worker party would have taken Dominica to next level, the level that it needs to be at in 2014. Dominica needs some development. Dominica to me still sits at a primitive level in comparison to some of the other Caribbean Islands. I look forward to hearing you and feeling your presence in parliament for the next few years. I will give the United Workers Party all of my support and if time permits my appetite for development in Dominica may just drive me to put a new and younger face to the UWP candidate for La plain constituency in the next election.

As individua human beings our actions are decided by our convictions. Some people go through life with a clear conscience and others don’t care. Bad entrenched habits are difficult to break. My point is, in my humble opinion, the DLP utilized some unconventional and questionable tactics to return the to power. They have admitted it publicly. That’s gross arrogance when a candidate can welcome the factor that decided his victory at the polls. This deliberate machinations by a political institution does not auger well for a young developing democracy. The notion of going through life “by any means necessary” demeans one’s very character.
I must commend the UWP for its high level of discipline espoused during this campaign. Again, we can argue back and forth but there appears to have been obvious and blatant irregularities. The OAS observer mission made little or noo sense. They were aware that their recommendations were not acted upon. Yet theere freeness and fairness. What a shame.

Political ignorance is alive and well in this country. Unless we all make a concerted effort at learning and teaching basic civility we will be not prosper in many aspects of life including politically. Let it no longer be said that we’re a nice people but very gullible.

Lennox, I agree that the playing field was not level; the election was not only tainted; it was dirty, the stench covered the four corners of the island, nevertheless, some poor choices were made in regards to the selection of the candidates selected.

You should have known that Ron Green was not the appropriate candidate to compete against Petter, you should have remembered that the people of that constituency had already rejected him, he also should have realized that, and back off, giving a younger person the opportunity to bring a new message, and new hope to the people of that constituency.

One of the UWP mistake was that you all focused basically on the agriculture, and just about everything the DLP offered. If there is going to be any significant change in Dominica, as far as jobs are concern, talking agriculture, and building Roads, and feeder Roads, specifically to accommodate agriculture, which is a lost cause as many times anybody brings up that subject, they are most certainly casting gloom on their candidacy. When Ron Green should be talking to the people about industrialization of the country, and the hope that some form of industry would be brought in the vicinity which will provide work for the people, the man was busy talking crap about some dumb playing field.

Who cares about recreation when their belly is empty, who cares about track and filed, cricket, when they do not have money to buy a pair of trousers, dress and some shoe. Yes we need sports, and recreation, but that is not all that is required in life.

When I read “know your candidate”, I am from Wesley as you well know, in comparing the promises of Athena, and that of the Bazel boy, they offered the same thing; almost verbatim! except Bazel educational background was more detail, truth is Wesley and Woodford Hill people rejected Athena for obvious reasons, but believe it or not she came very close to defeating Bazel!

I found no absolute difference in what they both offered; and Athena, if you only spoke about your vision for certain areas of Londondeery, of which we spoke about in Canada more than five years ago, though you left out a hotel resort, from your plan during our conversation; the time you took to attack, and ridicule Lennox, while you read the script handed to you; if you stock to your original thoughts, the people would have realized there could be some employment deriving from such a project. People do not want to hear anything about Ten Shilling Road, and how you will complete it and invest in agriculture. You need to Remember all the paved road around Wesley in recent years came through no efforts of the Central Government; god Skerrit government.

The people knows who to thank, and those are the ones in the Village Council, mainly Arnold Telemaque, and old man Kenneth Telemaque, nothing accomplish was due to the effort of ( mr. god) Skerrit. The fact that without millions of dollars to buy votes one can say the UWP was a success at the poles: going from two representatives in parliament, to five is quite a leap, it is only a matter of time before our people come to their senses and realize our nation cannot live on handouts form Skerrit and his party! Five years from now he will be doing the same thing, buying votes, has anybody wonder why Petro Carib cannot be paid? Such are the source of that sixty million, dollars, giveaway along with the thousands of passport sold on the black market, I suspect that is Skerrit’s source of the money. For years we know that an oil refinery was mentioned, if we are going to steal money to buy votes: would it not be better to steal sixty million, and invest it into an oil refinery, hence providing Jobs to the people. When Dominica born Frank D. St. Hillaire built the West Indies Oil Company on the island of Antigua, the whole project cost $40, 000,000.00 dollars, that is the same refinery the Labor Party led by Patrick John rejected. Our nation would be much better off if Skerrit had form a company ad go into the oil business, which serve a better purpose than using it to buy people.

It is one thing to talk about International Airport, that is a stale matter, nevertheless under Skerrit, Dominica will never see the light of day of an International Airport in our country, that is not on his agenda, as I said the only Dominica will be freed from Skerrit grapes, there shall be a revolution!

Mr Telemacque, you started off well but then you went off on a tangent. I sincerely believed that this was the year for the The UWP to win the election, but they made a lot of mistakes. They got intimidated by the flashy DLP rallies and lost their focus. Let me remind you that the DLP put the UWP out of office in 2000 when UWP was the party with the big bucks. Where there is a will there is a way. The UWP just has to find the way. Stop being diverted by the man Skerrit.

francisco ,you are dead wrong ,agriculture is key ,and will always be key ,If you observe ,since when mamo spoke against agriculture(Truth).

Well, if you believe that our nation shall forever be the poorest country under the face of the sun. If you believe that agriculture is the way into the future, then I count the Dominica hope all lost!

If you can name me a single nation on earth which have survived, based on an agricultural economy; I will agree with you with you that agriculture is the way forward. Nevertheless, I can take you back to the days of China, which once depended on Agriculture traditionally, the ideology of the Chines, was that the people of China would not have survived without agriculture: Hence, China once produced the most rice on the planet. During that long period; China remained a very poor nation until the communist nation decided it was time to industrialize China, that was less than forty years ago.

Since the industrialization of China, that nation has become one of the wealthiest nation on this planet; China has become rich; so rich, they have enough money to lend to even a great and wealthy nation as the United States of America; I will not give an explanation why, but that’s the reality. If we take a look at Russia, and the former Soviet Union Nations, controlled by Russia during the years of communism, all if which economy was based on agriculture, they all failed!

Russia failed, however, recovered when they abandoned their agricultural concept, by then communism failed, they invite outside industries into Russia, hence they industrialized their nation, as a result they produced the most millionaires over the shortest period of time in modern history. Prior the industrialization of Russia, some people life was worst of than what we have in Dominica; i.e. people utilized the pit-hole the same as we have today in Dominica: interesting to note one pit-hole served a whole village, or all the residence in an area. Unbelievable as it may seem, it is true. All of that has changed with the advent of the industrializing of Russia!

We talk about Cuba: if we understand the term economy, and apply that to Cuba, we will find that Cuba has no economy.

        Why?

Because they depend on an agricultural based economy, Cuba has been a failed state from the day Fidel Castro took Cuba into communism, to the day he handed the nation to his brother. Look at it this way, Antigua’s economy for a long time depended on Sea island cotton, and the production of sugar, that is agriculture too, nevertheless, since the collapsed of the sugar industry, in Antigua, the nation focused on Tourism, thus Antigua, has become one of the most developed islands in the Caribbean, as a matter of fact, because Antigua is so prosperous, the island has become a heaven to many Dominicans, that is why more than twenty-five thousand of our people are living there.

Do not misinterpret my position, I am not contending that our people and government should abandoned agriculture completely. I would have to be fool to suggest that, since most of our staples derived from the food grow, nevertheless, for anyone to insists that agriculture should be the total source of employment for the youth of our country, is totally ludicrous! Our country will never make any significant progress as long as we insists that an agricultural economy is the way we should go into the future.

Are we forgetting that we are now existing in the twenty-first century? I mean politicians in Dominica, like to talk about agriculture, because they know that is what the older uneducated people long to hear, they use that against the people to get their vote, however, they are not informing them that the Banana industry is never going to return to the days as it was when it was referred to as Dominica’s green gold! There is no market in Europe to sustain that. Again I am inviting someone to ask the Jamaicans what happened why they stopped exporting bananas to Europe way back in the late 1970’s; the industry in Jamaica collapsed all due to a lack of market in Europe. And if there is anyone in Dominica who disputes that without the knowledge of what transpired ,I am willing to pay their passage to go to the island of Jamaica and find out for themselves!

What Mamo said may have troubled the mind of, I do know the details of what she may have said; and in spite the fact I never like her because of something she did to me when I was a child, I do believe if she suggests our people should look forward to something new, she may be correct.

From what I have read, one day everyone will go back to the land. There will be no technology, etc. It may not happen in our lifetime but it will happen.
This will occur after the “Three Days Darkness” which will come upon the earth to purge it of all evil people and things. There is a great possibility that it will happen.
A few years ago, I got this information and more at a prayerful gathering which I attended. This is no joke and one to be taken seriously. Would love to state more which should not be doom and gloom but something to look forward to for our earthly happiness and peace which the world is in dire need of.
Let everyone do good and keep on doing good. Let them “Love thy neighbor” as Our Lord Jesus Christ has commanded us to do. In the end this is all that will matter and what which will determine our eternal destiny.

But this is the first and only article I’ve seen on here that speaks on the poor strategy of UWP and the fact that the focus of their campaign should have been about creation of jobs through industrialization. Great post. You are spot on.Ron Green lost his seat as party leader to a novice peter st jean. Why would they think that he can win again? I must say I have misjudged you. When I see a man that can call his party out on their nonsense it makes me think that you are objective in your decisions of which party you support. I will now be more open minded to your suggestions and advice and I hope we can put our differences aside and continue to build a better Dominica. You see with me it is not the politics; with me it is all about and the welfare of the county! Some people does not know when to bow out gracefully when the time arrives. Ron has served his purpose to the nation, and fail to realize he will never become a minister of government ever again, it will take a miracle for that to happen.

People such as Edison James, and guys like Provost knew the time had came for them to quit, As for Edison James, if he ran, there is no he could loose, the people of Marigot if given the opportunity would have voted for Edison forever. However, James realized it is time to hang up his political ambitions, his time has passed, so what’s the point.

On the other hand men such as Ron views Dominica, and Dominica’s politics their estate, and if they are not involved their life will be empty. Ron failed the party when he became the leader of the party, he became so incompetent, that he did not have the commonsense to produce a manifesto tot the people, five years ago, Ron Green singled destroyed any chances the UWP had in winning that election.

The manifesto is traditional in Caribbean politics, how can you tell people over and over they can read your manifesto online, when more than half of our nation is so poor cannot buy food never mind buying a computer which thousands of dollars in Dominica. I looked for Ron Green Manifesto online, and never found it, the thing did not exist, why lie when you know you had not produced one.

In the United States, we do not here the term manifesto, but, we here the term proposition: Such information are sent out in a manual to every home where there are registered voters, upon receiving those, we read, and reject the people we believe would not be good to run the affairs of the state, and that included governor, judges, and council men, and women, so before we go to the poles our mind is already made up as to whom we are going to reject, and who we wish to vote for every agenda is outline, and they had better keep their promise otherwise they will be gone by next election.

I do not play politics by supporting an individual, simply because I like them, because that is not the idea of politics, and hate should not be an influence, one political opinions should not based on like and dislike, if I believe the individuals program deserves support, I will support that individual regardless of the party they are affiliated. I think when our people commence concentrating on the country, and what can make it better for the good of all Blue Green and Red; I do not know the colors of the independents, but unless we put the welfare of the people, and country first, Dominica is doomed!

As for the differences you mentioned, such does not bother me, I could care less, when people dabble into politics anything is expected, I will never like everything you write I am sure you feel same about my comments, I do not take anything said politically about me personal. At least in this case I might be smarter than that!

As for Ron Green, I thought, poor Ron, he should bow out of politics and UWP. He was unsuccessful in the last election and he was unsuccessful in this one. Maybe James should have given him the Marigot riding or suggest that he took it. Linton won there, no doubt without much exertion on his part. Be planning to ask intelligent questions in parliament of the PM. Please ensure that the PM keeps his manifesto promises to the people of Dominica, start studying the manifesto of the Dominica Labour Party and in parliament and on the radio ensure that the people of Dominica know tht you are looking after their interest. Do not allow Skerrit to be a tin god and Dictator in the land, yes he has enough votes to get his policies through, and when the policies are for the good of the people, vote with him. When it is bad bring your arguments to the house and present them so the people of Dominica can see what is being done, some things should need a referendum , yes it will be harder, but remember do not behave like the retardicans, show the world what true democracy and consensus government can be like. As a Dominican living in Britain who gave us our democracy model. I must say that I have never once been given anything to vote for the Labour Party in England. I am a socialist because I believe in the betterment of the poor. So my natural inclination has been and will always be to vote for a socialist government. However, the open rampant bribery which went on in Dominica need to be curtailed, as it does not help the people of Dominica to be educated as to why they vote and for whom.
The Dominica Labour Party has not done itself or Dominicans any favours. A government who has been in power for 15yrs should have confidently been able to win a landslide election if it ad been working for the people. The fact that the PM is reported to be campaigning in Grandfond constituency up to the morning of the election, is a indication that he is nervous and afraid of something. Why was he so determine that Mr. Fountain did not win the seat to be in parliament as his opposite number which would have been shadow Minister of Finance. Dominicans are just happy, that their party win. From my calculations the labour Party would have still won the election, they did not need to do all the bribery that they did, however the margin would have been a lot smaller at least four more seats would have and should have gone to the opposition, and that would truly have been a free and fair election. As a socialist I am happy to have the DLP in government , government is about stewardship, ensuring the rule of law and order respect for the spirit of the law and constitution of the land. Sadly as a socialist with integrity I am sorry that my party resorted to the antics of gross bribery and corruption to defraud the people of Dominica.

As a civil society we live by laws. The law says the accuser must prove his/her case. In Dominica, because PM Skerrit is the accused the law should be changed so that the accused assists the accuser to prove a case against him/her. So staying in Britain and listening to a particular radio station spew out unfounded allegations after allegations, day in day out, night in night out, week in week out, for five straight years none stop will not assist your learning about developments in Dominica. The saying which should be a principle for all, if you were not present and did not see it, keep quiet. Furthermore, it is none of your business.
There is always the benefit of the doubt. One has to be certain to prove what they heard and read are accurate. There are too many of them who hear and read and accept it as factual. It makes them look like fools.
The Media is not always correct. We cannot go before the Heavenly Court, before God and say, “I heard and read.” Likewise before the earthly Court. It will not be acceptable.
Who will listen and pay heed about hearsay anyway? Who wants to consistently read and hear about that? What good does it do and to consistently repeat it? It makes for boring hearing and reading as a broken record.
This is why I will not listen to that Radio Station. I cannot stand consistent accusations, judging and loud talking which deafens the ears. If this is all they do, I will not listen to them. They spew propaganda because they do not support DLP. Those who do not put on their thinking cap may have none. They will agree with what they hear and keep on repeating it. At the same time they should cleanse their souls.
If I told them I had a dream about God or I saw Our Lord Jesus Christ in my dream (which I once did) and what He once told me at a Healing Mass I attended while resting in the Spirit, they will say to me it is not true, I am making up a story and I lied.
Tell them about gossip and hearsay they will believe it. Oh yes! I will also state about my Catholic faith and its devotions. They will ask, where is it in the Bible. That is some human beings who take for granted what they heard and believe without questioning it. So much for them. Big bunch of hypocrites.

Castle Bruce in 2000 =1494 votes casted. In 2014=1710 votes=increase of 216 voters
    La Plaine in 2000 =1322votes. In 2014 =1538 =Increase of 216 voters
    Salybia in 2000 =1513. In 2014 =1875. Increase of 362 voters.
St Joseph in 2000=1829. In 2014 =2128. Increase of 299 voters
    Roseau Valley in 2000 =1146. In 2014 =1786. Increase of =640 voters
    Morne Jaune in 2000 =1,026. In 2014 =1222. Increase of 196 voters

I reside in Ontario. I voted. The only people who have the list are those who are authorized to do so.
Canadians vote and all unauthorized people have no access to the lists of voters. A new strategy should be implemented in Dominica that voters do not see the list and names on the list. Those who want change, this is another change which should be a must.

UWP just there arcusing the Labour Party of all soughts of things that they were also involved in both parties did the same bringing in voters, canvassing outside polling stations etc, and not forgetting that one of the Candidates and another party member were outside polling stations in an area looking fir disaspora. In Roseau North the UWP candidate was just walking up and down in polling stations like its his place – even walking in with people to vote. Both parties were doing the same thing.

Lets talk of whats up for the Opposition in the house and the way forward. Hope is not another time of people staying out and my tax money paying them for walking out and staying out. Lets behave like grown Doominican who knows better

  47. December 10, 2014

Mr. Linton we all know the election process was damaged but what we want to know if Team Dominica UWP is getting together to plan what the next move is going to be we want to make sure that justice prevail, look what is happening in the constituency of Grand Fond I didn’t even knew that you and your team were prevented from coming into the Grand Fond on the Sunday day before election day all of the was wrong and what was that all about Why is it that Skerrit is determine to keep out Thomson Fontaine, and why is Gerald Burton not at the re-count why do they have this woman and others of the Skerrit operatives involved . Dr. Thomson Fontaine we are standing firmly by your side and God is going to work it out and you have won your seat and you have won the heart of the people of Dominica stay strong for you a covered with the blood of our lord and that’s the good one not the evil blood.

, Team Dominica UWP stand your ground don’t just walk away from Grand Fond and it’s people they need Mr.Fontaine but over all The Commonwealth of Dominica needs Thomson Fontaine right now we need him in Parliament to be able to hold Skerrit and his administrations to their feet, we want Skerrit to answer the questions about those deals and all the different schemes that he put Dominica in .
Thomson Fontaine worked in one of the highest institutions in the USA he is well trained and have the qualification for the job and that is why Skerrit and his administration don’t want him but it’s not up to them it’s up to the people of Dominica.
The people of Grand Fond and all the other of his constituency you have to come out in large numbers to support him and don’t believe you will be alone other constituencies will join you , you are not alone in this fight We are all in it too..

Thomson Fontaine will be in the Parliament one way or the other but he won the election and it’s his right to be in there with his leader Lennox Linton and if they still try to prevent him all Lennox have to do is bring him in as a Senator and they cannot do anything about it But justice have to prevail because he won his seat.

And to those people of Grand Fond that accepted money and other items from the DLP and Skerrit how do you feel even on election days so many things that were happening around and you were part of it how do you feel now All the other persons that came in Vote gone back to the different countries leaving you in a mess what is that doing to your CONSCIENCE they didn’t stay back to make sure this situation is settled before leaving they left and you have to deal with it and do you still believe what you did was right, well it was not so deal with it.
So help Dr. Thomson Fontaine and Team Dominica UWP to correct the in justice that’s been done to prevent him from taking his place in the parliament of the Commonwealth Of Dominica without provocation by the so call PM and his supporters .
The power is in the hand of the people exercise your legal rights we are still a democracy .

It was indeed a good fight…better than ’09. But UWP has been singing the same song since ’05 about tainted elections. This is not a strong enough motivator to captivate the Dominican people. I strongly suggest that every member of the UWP take a look at how Mr. Francis magnificently maneuvered his way to victory in Roseau South. The man connected with the people, and by all means it appeared to be genuine. If the party can learn from that, a lot more Dominicans will cross over. Heck, this is exactly what the PM has been doing, connecting with the people when campaigning. If the UWP cannot do that, the only other option is to make Mr. Francis leader of the party and have him use his polarizing personality to draw the masses in.

Even though some Dominicans are poor, they do not have to look like poor people if they have pride. They do not have to walk around the streets with torn up clothes. They want to look like that. Why do you not assist them and at least give them some clothes so they will not look poor?
There are some people who are poor, who have pride and who dress becomingly. One could not tell if they are poor. They look well-groomed and clean.. It is a matter of people’s concern for themselves and what they wish to look like. Some are uncaring.

  52. Tell it like it is
    December 10, 2014

This is the man´s personality. Do you honestly believe he will change? Dominicans are in for another five years of the same nonsense and that is why at the next General Elections the UWP will be beaten again. Guys like Lennox Linton never learn. It goes to show that this party has no vision for the development of Dominica. I have said before, and will say it again, UWP is bad for Dominica. We need people who are genuinely interested in the development of this country to come forward, maybe to form another party that is not tainted like the UWP to really put a case for Dominica. Certainly not Arthie, Griffin, Crispin and the usual suspects. We need fresh untainted blood.

  53. so unfortunate
    December 10, 2014

Mr. Linton, please show the people of Dominica, especially those you believe that you are the “Saviour” for Dominica, that you are much more than you appear to be. Show them that you are humble, you are grateful for their ability to vote for you and your party because they see that you are the “Change” that they need. Show them that you are willing and ready to work for them in the position that you have been given so that you all could have clear governance in Dominica. Lift your head up, make them proud, make them feel like there is hope and the end of the rainbow!
Please, lead by example, do not let your people see that your level of maturity is that of a teenage boy that did not win his basketball game, after the referees decided that it was their decision. You complain about everything. The people are not looking for that from you! You send no positive messages out to your people, that is so sad! Always negative vibes, that aura is not good for the soul Sir.
We live in a world where we dislike more things and situations than we like, but life has to go on, and with that negativity you subscribe to, Dominica will remain stagnant.
You and your party won six seats, that is a major accomplishment for you, especially after you were alleged to have so many negative qualities!
God sees all things, and he makes all things possible, Is it hard to see that it is not your turn, and in fact, your turn is not so far away??
This situation is sad, you will forever be whining, and for that , your followers will do the same! Let Dominicans, whether Labourites or UWPites, at home and in the Diaspora be proud to say that you Lennox Linton will do your job to the best of your ability, because it is a job that you love, because you love the people of Dominca, all the time, not some of the time!!

      @so unfortunate December 10, 2014

Thumbs-up #1 is mine to you. I really like your opinion.

Negativity is extremely bad for the mind, and that is all I read from Lennox and his followers since I got here, on DNO–that man is just too negative, and maybe angry, to be qualified as a leader over our people

To tell you the truth, with Lennox Linton as a member of Parliament, I think I will be afraid to even see a news headline, about what is taking place there, much more to open that news article–good Lord.

We, the God fearing people of Dominica needs to continue in prayer for the sake a sane mentality among in and among us–for if there is anything that is tainted in our Dominicans it is our state of mind; having been fed with that disgusting food of negativity–for much too long.

Roosevelt Skerrit is NOT my Prime Minister and will NEVER be!!! After this stolen election, complete with the utmost display of bribery and corruption, Laborites must have woken up this morning with the realization that that they ARE the minority on Island! The fact is, the majority has spoken and (absent Diaspora Judas Voters) thirteen of the 21 seats were given to the United Workers Party. Our true Government sits at home and a few in opposition in Parliament while the minority celebrate the illegal and criminal victory of the most CORRUPT Prime Minister in the Caribbean and his Labor Party.
Prime Minister Lennox Linton, cannot afford to accept this lop-sided defeat and hypocritical offer of an “olive branch”! The REAL Prime Minister has a duty to mobilize his supporters to bring an end to the theft, misuse and abuse of the Public Purse. Mr. Roosevelt Skerrit is now fully exposed to ALL Dominicans by his actions during this campaign season. The Laborites who celebrate know that something is wrong and that their PM is afraid of SOMETHING!!!! Laborites why is your PM so afraid??? What is he hiding??? Do any of you want to bet that within the next five years you will be crying and lamenting the 8th of December, 2014???? I, Trubble Sum, prophesy and predict that within the next two years or less, the entire Dominica will be in SHOCK and that revelations and occurrences will have ALL of us in bitter tears!!! Mark my word! I tell each of you that what will be revealed in Dominica will have Laborites, Pappyites, Workers and Freedomites praying that Roosevelt Skerrit, Anthony Astaphan, Hartley Henry, Alick Lawrence and Vince Henderson were never born!!!! 65. December 10, 2014

Linton is 100% right, and the proof of the pudding is that every single voter who accepted an inducement to cast their vote in favor of a political party, whether cash money, building material, airline tickets, alcohol, jobs or any other form of inducement knows the election was tainted.

for me the key message I have taken from the outcome of this election, and the biggest problem Lennox Linton and by extension Dominica faces, is the mentality of Dominicans.

There should’t be anyone of voting age in Dominica who cannot recognize the issues within that country over the past number of years. They have been offered a viable alternative with a well thought out plan of action, yet when push comes to shove, they voted for more of the same, for a few dollars more.

The actions and behavior of the ruling Labour party was predictable and there are only two recourse’s to address that, and the most potent is the will of the people via the ballot box, or through the courts of Law by the laws of the country.

The people have shown comprehensively that they condone and support this sort of behavior and that is the voice of the MAJORITY of the people who voted in the December 2014 elections.

for me the only difference between those that were transported in to vote and those on the Island who accepted payments, is that the imported voters acted out of GREED and WITHOUT responsibility, and those on the Island acted out of GREED and STUPIDITY.

In conclusion the country did not get the government it deserved, instead the people got the government they derserve

Change never comes easy, just look at the civil rights movement in America. Persons were killed ,jailed, beaten up etc, etc.Unless we Dominicans the 17,000 plus who voted for the UWP stand up and demand change nothing will happen. We need to demand that the voters list be cleaned up,demand absentee ballots for the diaspora and demand that election laws ,codes and conducts are enforced. In other words we the people, not just the opposition need to get off our backsides stand up amd be counted, demonstrate.I for one will memoving back to my country in a couple of years and i plan to be an activist for change.no clean voters list =no election let they alone vote.No ballots for overseas voters =no election let them alone vote ,then the eyes of the world will see what is going on. There is no point going into a fight knowing the game is rigged against you and then complaining when you lose. Let us level the playing field.

I honestly agree with Mr. Linton. It is not fair when one doesn’t play by the rules wins and comes and say everything is fine lets work together. Mr. Timothy has expressed the true feelings of the Labor Party. He will not work together with the Parl Rep. He will work with the person who will replace him. That is LABOR PARTY TO THE BONE. Trust me, they will continue to marginalize the Parl Reps who are not on their side. I just ask of the UWP parl reps to make their cases in parliament, make their cases on the radio, make their cases in their constituencies and make their cases wherever they have the opportunity. Mr. Skerrit telling his supporters that the Parl Reps will be fired if they don’t stay in their communities is a true indication of what the UWP Team Dominica and many of the people residing in Dominica that there has been no representation; Work in constituencies are measured with the next election in mind and the Prime Minister can come a week and a day before election to bribe and issue promises. What a shame. The process is slow but it is surely coming around.
