The Marigot Dominica Labour Party (DLP) Association has said it is disappointed in a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, to be tabled by Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton, when parliament convenes on Wednesday.
The opposition is alleging that Skerrit has mismanaged the economy of Dominica but Dr. Martin Christmas, who contested the Marigot Constituency for the DLP against Linton and who was defeated in the 2014 general election, said the people of Marigot are embarrassed by the move, saying it is a waste of parliament’s time.
“We the people of Marigot and Concord have continued to be embarrassed by the level of poor representation afforded to us by our elected member,” he said in a statement. “His latest act of embarrassment constituted a blatant abuse of parliamentary privilege and a waste of parliament’s time.”
He said the association is confident the motion will be swiftly and soundly defeated, noting that the grounds for presenting it has “no merit” and is without substance and factual foundation.
Dr. Christmas said the people of Marigot have sat silently for two years while they observe non-representation from what he described as a “so-called leader.”
“We have heard nothing but rants going to the extent of jealously attacking our own and failing to represent the needs of the community,” he stated. “This last act borders on humiliating and clearly sounds the alarm that the opposition and its leadership need serious help. It would be less than unbecoming of ourselves not to interfere and once again call for representation for our people.”
He noted that for too long the people have not interfered and “quietly swallowed the bitter drink which has become our fate.”
“The people of Marigot deserve parliamentary representation which speaks on the behalf of the people and simply not against the government in office,” Dr. Christmas remarked.
The opposition is claiming that Skerrit has mismanaged the economy which is evidenced “by rising unemployment, sharp decline in the performance of agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, construction and service sectors and an increase in the trade deficit and a massive national debt.”
It said because of that, the House of Assembly expresses “its lack of confidence in the leadership of the Prime Minister.”
Martin boy, in the first place you did NOT write what you said. But on a more serious note, since after election in 2014 this is your first public statement. While you rant and rave, the following continue: no hospital at Marigot; no work done on the village roads of Valley, Windy Lodge, Creg, Barreau, Caye em Buck, the sea water over the road at Melville Hall continues and you talking all that CRAP???
Today the sorrow is not only shared but it has MULTIPLIED.

Mr. Christmas should be disappointed with himself. After all was he not the chief Doctor when news termite infestation first broke at the Marigot hospital? Was he not the LAST doctor to serve at the Marigot hospital because of uncontrolled termite infestation? You see Marigot DLP, your leader has done nothing but lead this once bountiful nation into massive unemployment, the destruction of industries, and he spouts a cowboy attitude when it comes to abiding by the Constitution. I have no time for politics so I will switch gears here and give a true life story that describes my name and have us to think twice.
Once upon a time there lived a poor lady in the woods of Neglect, who was born on Christmas day. she had a son who was given significant help by a local politician to attend university, so one day he could become a doctor or in a position to help take care of his poor mother. Needless to say that poor woman became a very strong supporter of the local politician as well as her son. Upon graduating he was given a top job in his community which made everyone proud because they all remembered his past. He decided to resign from his job, in exchange for public office, to fight one that helped him. When the poor old woman heard that news she was so crushed, disappointed, and vowed never to endorse her son because it violated her conscience of gratitude. Unfortunately, that move drove the poor old lady to her grave. Let’s be grateful folks

I am disappointed, Dr Christain did not comment on the $30,000 and the Petrocasas houses which were promised to the Marigot Constituency. Mr. Linton has accused your leader of being a liar and your concern is not supporting him, your concern is about whether a vote of confidence that everyone knows will be defeated. What Dominicans want to know is whether Skeritt is lying or not when he told you and rest of the Marigot Constituency he made gifts of houses and money, Mr. Linton has shown no interest.
