Overseas officials to arrive for seminar with local parliamentarians

House Speaker Alix Boyd Knights

Several resource persons will arrive in Dominica to conduct a two-day post election seminar to commence on Wednesday.

A post-election seminar is meant to help new parliamentarians with the familiarization of  matters of the House of Assembly, covering number of topics including understanding the Standing Orders and the various committees.

Speaker of the House of Assembly Alix Boyd Knights said the contingent includes secretary general of the Commonwealth Parliament Association, the clerk of the House of Trinidad and Tobago and former clerk of the Dominica House of Assembly, among others.

She said the upcoming seminar is very important and all members of parliament should try to attend.

“There is so much that one can learn from the seminar. Life is a learning experience and you are never too knowledgeable in any subject area. There is always things you can learn to better your presentation,” she said.

The Speaker said the House of Assembly officials will present the parliamentarians with knowledge that will make them better “all round”.

What is the point of improving their skills. Debate in the Dominica parliament died on the 18th Dec 2009.
All legislation can now go through unopposed and without any checks and balances. In fact even the speaker can join in the fun since she does not seem to understand her role of political neutrality.
    Viva Da, viva!

Please, these people have their own political agenda, such events are below their level in their view. Let them stay out still. Dominica is much better without them.
