Pastor calls for prayers as parliament elects new president

A leading member of the religious fraternity here has called on Dominicans to pray from midnight tonight (Sunday) to midnight on Monday as parliament meets to elect Charles Savarin as president.

Pastor Randy Rodney said the prayers are against the nomination of as president of some one who is coming straight from the political platform.

“That is not in the spirit of the office of the president,” he told Dominica News Online on Sunday evening.

He stated that while the government has the majority in parliament and can do whatever it wants, the only thing that is left for the people to do is pray.

“While the government can do what the government wants to do, God always overrules whatever man decides to do,” he stated. “So I am asking people to petition God.”

Parliament meets on Monday at 10:00 am and among matters on the order paper is the Election of President and Charles Angelo Savarin will be government’s nominee for the election.

The opposition United Workers Party has said the election “will not stand” and has summoned its supporters to Roseau at 5.00 pm on Monday to protest against Savarin taking up the office of president.

No Sir. You are adding to Gods words. God said that ONLY in the context of marriage. ONLY. Read the Bible cover to cover from Genesis to Revelation nd tell me where you see that.

He said to pray for our leaders. He allows and disallows and vanquishes leaders. He gives the ppl what they are clamoring for, despite their disobeying his warnings. He IS God. He IS the Lord

I love Pastor Rodney, he is very open and frank, he says things as he sees it. I am not a member of his church. We studied together and he has always been that frank and open man. Pastor speak for those of us who are moo moo and afraid to speak because we have to protect our job, or other situations which we have no control of. Big up to Pastor Randy Rodney.
Those who are aggrieved, you have your opinion which I respect.

Brother Randy I really love you as a brother, but you see that call for prayer from you, I don’t support you Because, the scripture say Pray for those in authority, not against them How can you want to tell God to prevent Mr. Savarin from being President, while I am Praying to God to make him President. and to those who think that God is not in Politics He is because the Bible clearly said in Romans 13:1-6 Let every soul be subject unto the higher Powers. For there is no power but from God: The powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resisteth shall receive to themselves damnation. Daniel 4:17 This matter is by the decree of the watcher and the demand by the word of the holy one: to the intent that the living may know that the most high ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men. v 35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing. And he doeth according to his will in the army of Heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hands or say unto him what doest thou? so my beloved brother don’t join those men to fight against the doings of Almighty God. (yoland is Savarin Savarin is Yoland)I love him so much no body can device us. let us pray for him and the Government of the day. Because if it was the UWP in office I would pray for them. Or you might end up trying to fight God.

Skerrit doing whatsoever he please. Skerrit is the new Al Capone and John Gotti. The man is right. All we can do is pray. Protest or not, of God allows it to happen, it will happen. Not a soul can stop Skerrit cause apparently we live in a dictatorship system. Soon we cannot buy rice and flour, we cannot work for our 50 cents. Everybody have to line up FC to get their rice, flour and meat for the mini god named Skerrit. 90% of those of you who wanted him there 5 years ago alu seeing the blatant disrespect, arrogance and corruption with which he is serving the very same people who put him there

Is that the ideology that the religious leaders who should be encouraging prayers for the good of mankind are encouraging prayers to be against one another. What happem to prayers for love and guidance and togetherness. Pastor please stay in the realms of religion and leave politics for the politician. You r confusing your role. • October 1, 2013

When i say that religion has no place in politics that goes to all the religious leaders who partake in politics. One should not argue about religion nor politics because they devide people and leave a lot of bitternes behind.
So anonymous i am not asleep. Am very concious of what i say.
A pastor should be careful about what he preaches as his congregation may have there own views and if he side with one political party and show biasness his people will be devided and that can create anger among hid congregation.

The Lord is our shepherd we shall not want. Nice Pastor you can ask us to pray for the removal for the nominee of President. The Lord is good all the time and all the time he is good. Sometimes in praying we ask for things and we get something else. Pastor I would expect you to ask us to pray for the country, so there will be peace among our people, more tolerance and harmony, but again God knows what prays to answer and when. My pray to my lovely country is father be with us always, protect your children, red, blue green, yellow, orange, what colour we may support. Clean our heart oh God and make us kind to each other. Sit at your homes or in your churches and pray and Jesus will make funds available to pay our teachers better, fill the hospital with much needed medicins ,fill up to potholes, build sea walls..yeah yeah that’s all in Jesus’s mandate. No need to talk about a sustainable plan projects to revitalize the economy nope just got pray Jesus drops money from the sky…

I love and supported the PM, but Dominicans fellow Labourites, it is time to tell our PM, he is here to represent us, not himself.NO to Charlo as PM.,NO, No , No again,we have not forgotten how partisan and wicked he is. Pastor, you are enticing Dominicans to an uprising. You are encouraging them to disobey authority. Obedience to authority is in the Bible which you are preaching to the people.
What do you, as a so-called pastor have against the PM and Savarin? Do you not think that you are wasting your God-given precious time?
You call for prayers. Why did you not call for prayers when UWP nominated Linton and accepted him to be leader of their Party? Where were you? obviously you support UWP and not Labor. You should stay out of the business of politics and pray and make penance and sacrifice so as to appease God if you want Him to help Dominica and to be a peaceful nation.
Those who pray must be holy. They must practice the faith, be obedient and mind their own business. They should pray with a humble and pure heart that God might answer those prayers.

“Pastor Randy Rodney said the prayers are against the nomination of as president of some one who is coming straight from the political platform.” (Randy Rodney).

Have I read this guy correctly?

Let me emphasize that I do not believe that God plays any part into politics; and especially Dominica’s politics. We believe he does not interfere into politics based on these words found in the Bible: “render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar, and unto God the things that are God.” (The Bible).

According to what I read, it appears that between daybreak, and Sunset Tomorrow Monday, Saverin will be Dominica’s President, and there is nothing any amount of prayers can do to prevent that!

The fact the prime minister said that Saverin has already resigned his position as a minister of government in preparation for this new appointment is an indication the man is already confirmed president, and nothing except if his appointment is constitutionally illegal can change that!

It might be better at this time for people to focus on themselves in prayer, pray to God, for their personal benefits, and welfare, for it would be miraculous if Saverin is not the president as of Monday!

It is about 11:47 P. M. in Dominica, and 8:47 P. M. in Los Angeles, I suspect prior to midday tomorrow the 30th of September, Saverin will be seated in the Dominica White House.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

I doh evenknow what we have; white house or green house eh!

In any event only a court battle: “People Of Dominica vs Government Dominica” can resolve this one, and since the people of Dominica is the government of Dominica, and not those elected, I don’t know if the people can sue themselves: so, since you intend to pray from morning to night to God to prevent, the nomination, appointment, you might be better off contesting that in court.

Do not be too optimistic about the outcome though, since justice does not always prevail in our country.

    Francisco Etienne-Dods Telemaque

I shall be praying for my country. If the elected members of parliament do not have the testicular fortitude to tell their leader Roosevelt Skerrit, that he is going against the will of the people, and that he is dividing the nation at the expense of his legacy then, they do not deserve to represent their constituencies.

This is not about Charles Savarin or the Labour party, it’s about what’s best for Dominica. We hope that someone will convey basic commonsense to the leader so as to change his mind before it’s too late. This is another bad decision in the governance of our beloved Commonwealth of Dominica.

Pastor Randy Rodney is correct. We need prayers more than any other time in the history of the nation. So God Almighty, we ask as one people for deliverance and guidance, as we endure these difficult times for the survival of democracy in our country.

That is what the pastor is advocating, the intervention of god to open up our minds and hearts to truth, righteous and peace.

That is what the Pastor is praying for that we as a people can love each other and respect each other more and may his mercy be with us as his will be done.

I agree. Prayers, Love, Unity and Peace are required in Dominica, more so than ever; not division and war.
Those who propagate these ungodly traits which displeases God, will receive their just recompense from Him sooner than they expect and when they least expect it.

Pastor Randy, I h.ighly respect and honor you and sure believe in the power of prayer. However, there comes a point in life where ‘the people’ have to stand and this is the time. Skerrit and his DLP team are bent on destroying our country and we MUST stand up for our country. Would you stand up and let a man run with your wife and do nothing to defend her when you could have defended her? Or Would you just call for prayer? Such suggestion sounds good but its time to stand for our country, As for me, I shall continue to pray for our leaders but now is the time for me to stand for my country and that I will do tomorrow.

If only you would think God, He who is love and Peace does not think like you. He would never call any of his created children evil monsters. He knows that they are not evil monsters.
The devil, the detractor and destroyer of souls is assisting you and knows fully well they do not deserve that type of name.
Are the Labor Party, the PM and Savarin more evil monsters than you? God knows your heart. Go and hide yourself and keep quiet and pray. Ask God to forgive you for calling them evil monsters and pray to Him. This is what He wants you to do.

Stand up for what and against what? Are you better than the PM or Charles Savarin? You are listening to an instigator of a so-called leader who is out for trouble. You better cease your nonsense lest you, too, be punished by God.

You are foolish. Your heart is filled with hatred and following a leader whose heart is also filled with hatred. How can you expect your prayers to be ever answered? God is not in your foolishness and disunity which you have created. Leave him out of that.

Juan Pablo, maybe you do not understand our political system so back off!!! Our President is THE HEAD OF STATE!!!!!! THERE IS NO HIGHER POSITION UNDER OUR CONSTITUTION!!! And his job includes defending our constitution from that which may be destructive to it or contrary to the interests of our country!! The job of the government is to present and implement programs and policies for the benefit of our beloved land and the Presidents job is to protect our land and its people from all, yes ALL which may be a threat to it and to its stability, AN THAT INCLUDES ANY GOVERNMENT THAT MAY OPERATE IN ITS OWN INTERESTS RATHER THAN THAT OF THE STATE!! That it why Mr. Liverpool and now Mr. Williams have an inescapable responsibility to speak out about these issues as it is part and parcel of that which is demanded of them by the constitution!!! IF THEY NEED ASYLUM, LET THEM SEEK IT FROM A FOREIGN POWER AND THEN SPEAK OUT!!!!!!!!! If not, they have failed us in my book!!!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!

You people are blowing up a storm over nothing. Prior to mentioning the Bishop’ name why did you not ask him if he is in favor of a protest? He would certainly disagree with it.
The Catholic Church and Its Hierarchy do not propagate disobedience, rebelliousness and protests because they are not peaceful actions and are not of God.

Mr. Skerrit, his DISCARDED Speaker with the support of our brainless, spineless parliamentarians will elect Mr. Severin as their President. But he will not be the legally and constitutionally elected president of Dominica as once again, the government has failed to follow the constitution.

Charlo will be Skerrit’s president. He shall not be DISCARDED by Skerrit’s but he shall be DISRESPECTED by the people of Dominica, in whom the power lies.

What gives this UWP leadership the right to speak on my behalf. They are in the minority. They can only speak for less then 28% of voting Dominicans. In the Parliament, they only controls 3 out of 21 sits.
These people are only speaking for themselves and not for all Dominicans. I voted this Government and I am supporting Mr. Charles for President.
