Pastor concerned over ‘gutter politics’

Daniel is concerned over what is being said on political platforms

One local pastor is expressing concerns over what he described as ‘gutter politics’ and the use of it as campaign for a general election heats up.

“I am calling on all political parties to refrain from gutter politics,” Rev. Griffin Daniel said.

He said he is very concerned about what is being said on the platform, radio and television and pointed out that nation building should be the main focus.

“We must remember we have a nation to build not forgetting people around the world are listening to what is being said,” he stated.

He is hence calling on all political parties “to be careful of their choice of words.”

The pastor also had words of advice for journalists, pointing out they have to be careful of what is being said in the media.

“I would also advise that our journalists be careful as to what is being said on radio and television at all times,” he stated.

He noted that a great person once said there are four things that cannot come back and they are “the spoken word, the sped arrow, the past life and the neglected opportunity.”

“As a spiritual leader I am calling on all concerned politicians and others to be extremely careful as to what you say during the time of campaigning,” Daniel remarked. .

I sometimes think that these men of God speak only when their eyes do open and close it to the real social issues affecting this country. If not they better hold their peace.
Squatters were evicted just like that, did I hear any so called men of God ask about where these families were evicted to and what circumstances and how many children and mothers have been affected????….when at the same time, $5000,00.00 is given to Bishop just like that to buy loyalty from followers…

Are you not interested in the so called abuse of our many school students and young women allegedly committed by high ranking government ministers and interested people …are you not concerned?
Are these pastors (some) and (some) priests not concerned over what brought about poverty and suffering in this country??
We have a very corrupt and dangerous government in place.

Don’t worry pasta, you will still get an opportunity to star at the swearing in ceremony. No need to start kissing a** this early. I don’t like hypocrisy hence my comment. So many immoral and wrong things happening around us. I cannot remember the last time I heard your voice. Now elections are nearing, you are trying to influence people by telling them what to listen to and what to say? Ridiculous! You know how long the catholic church has been trying to re-roof the cathedral? How comes suddenly $500,00 becomes available? I don’t want to go into the many issues I wished I heard your voice. You were silent then, please remain that way!!

It would appear that Tony has no intentions of leaving the political mapuis out of the homes of Dominicans who listen to the so-called animal show. How can Tony justify blatantly calling Dr. Thomson Fontaine, Mr. Joshua Francis, Mr. Joseph Issac, Mr. Claudius Francis, Mr. Ronald Charles and Mr. Hector John dunce cats. If Tony wants to call those Dominicans dunce cats, that will he call Regie, Blackmore, Kelver and Petta St. Jean. I wonder if them feller even have a school leaving certificate .

My fellow Dominicans have you no fear for God and his servants?
A man of God has spoken and you can’t tell the spirit when to move. Don’t be like the Isrealites who complain and murmur about everything. Stop mixing politics and religion, be not decieved God is not mocked.
Good word pastor i love you.

Same to you and the gentleman “be not deceived God is not mocked” you evil people hide behind quotes like, touch not the Lords anointed, spiritual things are spiritually decerned and your one above to hide you true nature and fool the people. The “spirit” would never move him to speak when Mr Linton spoke the truth that we all know.

Your opening sentence say’s a lot about what religion has done to your mind. What is all that nonsense about Dominicans have no fear of God and his servants, who appointed The Rev. a man of God.

When you said do not mix Politics and Religion i wonder if you really understood how these two things affect the lives of people, yes both are man made, they both have the same goals, to hoodwink the human race, just look at the world we live in and tell me where all the deception is coming from. Here is something to think about. In religion and politics people’s beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination, from authorities who have not themselves examined the questions at issue but have taken them at second-hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions about them were not worth a brass farthing.

I do understand the message the Rev. is sending out, any person of intelligence can arrive at the such conclusion, this has nothing to do with a message from a servant of God.

But seriously though. It is easy to tell who a preacher supports. I think he is right in what he is saying but how comes he only responding now that the DLP has issues with the truth Lennox spoke of. Frankly, whoever is responsible for this attitude in Dominicans these days, cursing Pastor Priest and King and badmouthing everyone for everything, I really wouldn’t like to be in their shoes when they stand before the maker. We can’t spend our time poisoning the minds of ordinary people so that they are now so hate-filled and irrational. That will be a heavy burden to carry I am sure. What a legacy to leave behind.

    Thought for the week –

He must also speak to those who support UWP and who never fail to lambaste the DLP government. They are also causing “gutter politics” on this Website with also their accusations which could land them and DNO (for posting them) in hot water, in Court to respond to a libel case and to be sued for millions of dollars.
In addition, it appears that DNO favors those who are UWP supporters and those who are against the Catholic Church and Bishop Malzaire for accepting the PM’s contribution. Their comments are quickly moderated and posted.
The comments of those who are on the side of the Catholic Church and DLP are not moderated and sometimes for days. This could be a cause for a Court Case of favoritism and discrimination.
Be fair DNO. All things are temporary. It also includes a business.

Maybe they even read from the lectionary on Sundays at your Church :)

        “staunch”
I did not start this. Readers have stated that DNO is pro-UWP. I wonder why are there so many UWP supporters commenting and few DLP’s?
Why is it whenever there is an article pertaining to the PM as posted, so many UWP supporters comment who also give thumbs up and those who support the PM gets thumbs down?
Something is radically wrong. Others have complained about their comments not moderated and posted. Makes me wonder.

The Church should be neutral not bias we know what is happening every pastor is looking for their pocket those who praised God because money was deposited in their bank account or given to them directly . now no church or Pastor can speak because none is neutral they speak publicly telling their sheep who to vote for . do not come now and talj about gutter politics you are in the gutter as well. we are not hearing of any crusades are all souls won for Christ in DA? let us go back to preaching the BIBLE not promoting that corrupt Government. You all have become blind and leading the blind so we must not follow and emdup in the pit with the blind. it is sad when well respected spiritual leaders and POLITRICIANS are placed in the same bag….. it is true Dominica has issues that needs to be taken care of but Dominica is not worst than other countries, in as much as the island needs good political leader they also need the wisdom of good spiritual leader, not leaders who are concerned about the weight of their own pockets at the end of the day, MY PRAYER FOR MY COUNTRY IS THAT THE ALMIGHTY GOD AND FATHER OF US ALL RAISE GOOD LEADERS AND GOD FEARING ONES TO RUN THE AFFAIRS OF THIS ISLAND! in any case if you guys need me to go up and represent you i am available !

Why now Pastor Griffin? Why are you not speaking out about the corrupt government that you support? The pastors such as yourself have not taken up your mantle as a leader when it comes to speaking out on what is just and right. This is one of the reasons Dominica is the way it is today. You uphold a leader whose vision is to keep Dominicans poor and begging…and the list goes on!
Your message should be that Dominicans should pray to remove the wicked and corrupt men in office and replace them with men of moral and character.

It is so amazing that the PRO of the DLP, Philsbert Aaron told the World that UWP under the leadership of Lennox Linton believes in the politics of truth and truth has no place in politics. When Aaron made that statement, we expected all bishops, pastors and preachers in Dominica to advise and implore their congregations to support the UWP because they believe in truth. We expected the spiritual leaders of the land to denounce the DLP strategy of lying and deception. Their silence remains deafening on this phenomenal statement coming from the DLP. In the mean time we continue to live and experience the lies and deception of the DLP. Skerrit tells us that our economy is the best in the region, when in fact Dominica is the worst performing economy in the region. DLP say unemployment is at the lowest level in our history, when we see the amount of small businesses which have closed down, the thousands of jobs lost, the poor state of the agri sector, bad feeder roads, declining tourist sector and last ca-ca rat in foreign direct investments. Our debt to GDP ratio is over 100 percent, with nothing sustainable to show.

We know of the lies about the bin and fertilizer bobols, the illegal land tranfer deals, robbing the treasury of thousands of dollars. We also know of the PM villas and multi-million dollar house. Didn’t the bishop hear about the Chinese ambassador huis who paid for sexual entertainment for the PM and his ministers in Macua?

We want the spiritual leader to be specific. I challenge him that if he has to cite specific examples of gutter politics in Dominica, all of his examples will eminate from the camp of the DLP. The bishop heard Reggie vulgar and disgraceful attack on Monelle, he listens to Tony spue hate and venom. The spiritual leader knows very well where gutter politics and lies are coming from, he just lacks the moral strength and testicular fortitude to confront the PM on the issue of lies and gutter politics. JOHN THE BAPTISTE WAS SPECIFIC AND CONFRONTED THE LEADERS ON THEIR SPECIFIC SINS. HE LOST HIS HEAD IN DOING SO. IT IS TIME FOR OUR SPIRITUAL LEADERS TO BE LIKE JOHN THE BAPTIST IN THESE TIMES.

Pastor, good words, but direct them to PM Skrit and his ministers especially Reggie. UWP is running a nice and clean campaign; they always start with prayer and praise. God is in the centre of the campaign. DLP’s modus operandi is movay lang and mepuisay

  31. Wilderness voice
    June 5, 2014

I do not like general statements because one side will always blame the other and that leaves too much room for guessing who and what. If the pastor is serious and concerned about ‘gutter politics’ then he should point out such statements so all could see what he talking about. Now after pointing out gutter politics he could go ahead address both camps; about what is expected. By his statement he has some bloggers like @ mee suggesting that calling people rapist is bad. I hope that’s not what the pastor is referring to as ‘gutter politics’ because I have heard pas. Griffin and others refer to unmarried persons involved in sex as Fornicators and non tithers as Thief. So let’s stop playing technical and defensive.

  32. June 5, 2014

Pastor Daniel, before you shoo you need to learn to be precise because otherwise you may harm innocent people. Pastor, I agree you must not be seen as being political and therefore you have to try to address both sides. However, because the Church sat there and said nothing when Skerrit was laying his foundation for gutter politics, it has almost too late to correct him. Let’s be honest guys and please point me to at least one gutter politics style statement made by the Lennox Linton UWP. I beg u please! On the other hand just go back to the DLP May Day rally and you will see what gutter politics is especially from the lips of PM Skerrit and Austrie. I have an 12 year old girl and a 10 year old boy. If I am going to listen to a UWP meeting I can put up the volume because I know I will not hear anything gutterish from them. However, it is different with the DLP starting with the leader. The man has no problems telling the nation to “Go to hell x 3 times; he has not problem describing the ugliness of Lennox. Sometimes he behaves like a person that is under the influence and you never know when he going to curse. The same is true with Regie and his cow meat none sense. So the pastor should call out the “gutter politics” he referring to.

  37. Doc. Love
    June 5, 2014

I wish to agree with the pastor. He knows were the gutter politics is coming from. I am sure he has never heard Mr. Linton, Mr. Fontaine, Mr. Francis using those choice words to describe other politicians or supporters of a party. For instance, mosquitos, kakadors, jokers, school drop out, sconce, diarrhea mouth, pathological liar, black sigatoka, eating like pigs from a trough, big black ugly politician, rottweiler, to name a few. The Pastor should also be concerned about talk show hosts, both man and woman, who listen to these obscenities and not intervene.

What else is new? Other countries have the identical problem. I just heard a commercial pertaining to one of the Parties campaigning for the Ontario Provincial Election which takes place next week. A Party Leader was criticized. It was stated, why vote for that Party. The name of the leader was mentioned. This is politics which heats up prior to an election. An exciting time I would say, primarily for the Parties coupled with anxiety and stress. I am as cool as a cucumber, waiting for the day to caste my vote to get it over and done with. This is how I feel about voting and the aftermath. Then the excitement of anticipation to find out which Leader will be elected. I hope the one I support wins. :)
Granted, they must weigh their words and be careful of defamation of character. Also, on condition they do not swear at each other and tell lies about each other in addition to making lavish promises which they are aware they will never be able to fulfill. Keep the campaign clean and honest.

Then again is Dominica we are talking about where politics is center stage 365 days and not every 5 years. And now you come like Pontius Pilate and make a mockery of what Christ stands for. Please don’t be a hypocrite. Call a spade a spade. Go back to the drawing board and say something that make sense. Man of God? or Good words? these men are not genuine. this pastor told me he had no problem with the gay boats because the country needed money. according to him “we have to make sacrifices.”
he should speak forthright and call a spade a spade… say it as it is, which is ask crazy t, ghost, mammies, Astapahan, etc.. and Skerro and Regie to cool out..

Pastor Daniel….where have you been, in solitude….in confession? Have you not been about to know of the political nonsense going on. Your concerns and ours, the public, does not seem to match, it seems your are out of touch of the problems plaguing Dominica.
I have not heard you talk of the prostituting matter in Dominica. Are these men protected by you, pastor?
    Can you please speak of:
1, The level of abuse of our young girls….by top ranking people. They don`t have a voice, please be theirs.
    2. The increasing poverty in Dominica
    3. the abuse of power going on in this government
The abuse f public funds to churches where poor people and families are neglected and deny help while people enrich themselves.
Pastor Daniel, get real until then you have no authority to advice us, we are poor, desperate and in poverty while the states funds and being prostituted for personal wealth. Just look around pastor, also go to Savanne Paille, go to Bois bwa.
Pastor Daniel, the country needs prayer and new government , good governance and decency in high office. Please preach to us and the government on these disciplined themes.

      June 5, 2014

I am reflecting on us as a nation and wondering what makes us tick. We call on religious leaders to speak out, when they do we use anonymity to hurl derogatory comments at them. Am I to understand that one must speak out on every issue that affects the country. To my mind that individual would soon be viewed as a public nuisance. Pastor Daniel I believe was just too vague, he needed to be more specific but the call is a timely one. God bless you Pastor Daniel, never you mind the detractors.

Pas. Griffin, why only now? Where have you been? What about all your prophesies? Pas. Griffin, the fact that when gutter statements were made you said nothing, you should know that it is too late now. You should have said something when Lennox chastised ministers for alleged sexual misconduct but you said nothing! You should have said something when your friend and fellow preacher, now education minister compared Skerrit to Jesus but you said nothing. I expected you to say something about the half million dollars Skerrit gave to the Bishop yesterday, but again you said nothing and instead,, you tried a leg-break this morning. No one respects the voice of the chuch in Dominica today, so you just speaking to beat the wind

@Mel, If I know Tom cursed Harry and instead of telling Tom he must not curse, I went on to make a general statement like “Both of you must stop cursing” wouldn’t it be clear that I took sides? Preachers ought not to take sides because they are servants of God put there not only to preach salvation but to be forthwith and cry aloud against wrong doing in the land like John Baptist did to king Herold.

Or what about when somebody says” GO TO Hell?” how would you describe this? One thing for sure” The evil that men do will haunt them.” God is Good! @mee, In Dominica we call a person that repairs a car Mechanic whether he is certified or not. We call a person that can put up blocks Mason whether he is certified or not. I hope the pastor was not trying to say statements made by Lennox about what is plaguing our nation as “gutter politics” because if that is gutter politics then the pastor might and the church might be guilty of preaching a gutter message too when they are rightly calling a man and woman sleeping together and not married “Fornicators’ and members that are working but do not pay tithes Thief.

Griffin Daniel, your words are correct; just that they are lacking substance. If you were and are concerned about gutter politics, why are you not and did you not condemn the gutter politics as soon as those gutter statements were made over the radio, Tv etc. so we would which statement you did not like? Don’t try to be technical because we know you as well. If you are a true Spiritual leader as you claimed to be, why not stand on God’s side like Jn Baptist did, and say, Lennox, this is what you said and it is wrong, Or Mr. PM, my very good friend, these are the statements you made and they are wrong. To come now and try to play with words is just pure hypocrisy and I rebuke it. I guess you just trying to give people the impression that you are ready to pastor one of the largest Evangelical churches on the island, so you trying to sound nice. However, no one will listen to you because they know you as part of the problem

they have no idea how bad these words and fueds make Dominica look bad to outsiders. I live overseas (stx) and whilst traveling on a passanger bus i heard news on Dominica come on saying things that i know to be untrue. i felt so bad especially knowing how some of the other islanders think low of us. to have them hearing these untruth of my beloved Dominica. it hurt to the core. we must speak better of our country. the opposition does not need to defame the country like this in order to be considered for office. all the had to preach is ” the government has done a good job, but we feel we can do better by doing this and that.” simple . but by not laying out plans they are just defaming the name of Dominica in an ill fated attempt to grab power. good luck to them.
