‘People’s court’ must address alleged firebombing of former magistrate’s home – Edison James

James

Dominicans must intervene in the fire bomb case of the home of Glenworth Emmanuel, former Prime Minister Edison James has said.

He believes police are not vigorously pursuing the case and “the people’s court” must address it.

He made the statement at a meeting of the Citizens Forum For Good Governance held on the weekend in Layou.

“We must understand that if we do not stand up and liberate ourselves then we are in serious trouble,” he said.

The home of Glenworth Emmanuel, a former magistrate, was allegedly firebombed early in the morning last Christmas Day. Emmanuel and his wife were in the house in St. Aroment during the incident, but were uninjured. The fire destroyed Emmanuel’s vehicle and certain sections of the house.

Police have been accused of doing little to arrest the perpetrators.

James said Dominicans must let their voices be heard on the incident.

“I am urging Q95 to set aside two or three days next week, or soon, so that the people can discuss this on matter for three days and bring all the different aspects to bear on this matter,” James proclaimed.

Eddison has no qualms about accepting a salary at the end of the month, while he Norris and Hector keep boycotting parliament forget Ron Green he was not elected although he continues to blow a lot of hot air, our country remains desperately poverty stricken, Eddison has not done anything constructive since 2000 in politics, yet this petty man presents himself as the answer to our economic prayers and we Dominicans being fair minded people that we are fell for it, this shameful individual is just a power crazed robot, that clearly doesn’t yet understand the concept of democracy, he keeps stating the obvious and describes the problems, but offers little by ways of solving them, listen politics is like a curry the different elements help improve the flavour. Better watch out Eddison time is not on your side that also applies to Ron/Norris all you old men touching 70 years so my humble opinion is to step a side and let younger people have a go, it’s quite obvious that you old men are out of your depth and you have a formidable enemy in Sherrit he is a pretty tough cookie

      @Stanalone,

Time is not on your side either and many of us. Age is not a criteria for death dummy, health, lifestyle, natural and or man-made influences oh and snap ACCIDENTS and Un-Explained circumstances can cut you down in your prime. Hope you will live to 70 and look well enough as Eddison does. The ignorance some of your spew is beyond comprehension. Is that even a point of argument? How many young people have Eddison and company out lived? For many of you and your reckless, promiscuous lifestyles you will be lucky if you make it to 30.. Deal with the issues or shut the hell up, you are exposing your weakness to hold a substantive debate.

Well daid Honorable Edison James. Winner of cheated elections and Buy elections. Against all odds! Your people/constituents have spoken despite the the large influx of Haitians and rush to give them residency status and passports by DLP after the earthquake/before the buy election. Remember you still got back your votes with an increased margin. 2005 election. Dil not the UWP get more total votes?
Previous election was it not only a coalition of dlp and dfp that denied the peoples decision?

‘The People’s Court’ in my mind spells ‘Vigilante and Mob Rule’.

Yes there should be a througher investigation. Mr Emmanuel deserves justice. Someone must answer to this terrible crime. The police/fire department should do all in their power to solve this.

Lets leave this for the proper channels to deal with, not a kangaroo court, and certainly NOT a trial by media (Q95).

Its really frightening when an educated person comes out with such a statement.

Remember the old adage “When your neighbour house is on fire wet yours” Today is GON Emanuel tomorrow is yours. THe police needs to investigate that fire. Send for Scotland Yard and find the perpetrators. We all know who committed that crime. The arsonist has confessed.. Let us not be hypocrites those you are involve in such a heinous crime should pay dearly. If this crime of arson is allowed to go without the people involve paying their dues trust me Dominica will feel the wrath of God.

corruption plagues the country so much that many Dominicans are not even concerned about justice anymore. They will continue to condone criminal acts and even when justice is delayed and justice is denied it doesn’t matter. Don’t you all have a HEART? WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE MOTHERS, FATHERS, FAMILIES STILL IN PAIN BECAUSE THEY HAVE LOST THEIR LOVED ONES THROUGH CRIMINAL ACTS AND MANY of THE CULPRITS ARE FREE, WALking the streets?

When the guy was murdered in Pagua, you should see the crocodile tears and hear the hypocrisy. But there should be no outrage regarding the firebombing of two senior citizens of Dominica.

The comments on that particular firebombing horrendous criminal act speaks volume of where Dominica is heading and how some people think. There is so much hatred, dishonesty, deceit, corruption that some people do nopt care two hoots when a Dominican’s home is firebombed and the investigation is being contaminated.

There are some with special interest in that attempted murderous act on Emanuel. Continue to support firebombing and other criminal actions. Shame. Run but you all will not be able to hide when crimes will be at your doorsteps. When your family member will be the wilvictims of criminal acts what you all will say. crime semm to be deep rooted ion my once peaceful land. Crime is on the increase. Heinous crimes are being committed. Other criminal acts by those in high places are being committed, but some Dominicans keep supporting directly or indirectly such criminal attitudes?

The Nature Isle brand cannot be about support for criminal acts irrespective of who are involved. Patriotic Dominicans will never be fooled. We know why some of you do not want to hear anything about the firebombing of Emanuel’s home. That crime is interconnected with other actions and everything pertaining to those matters must be defended, protected and covered up , much to the benefit of the few involved. Crime is crime is crime and crime is wrong, is wrong, is wrong.

May God help us! As deplorable the present regime may be, history tells us that a “people’s court” brings nothing but terror. This is exactly what brought Victor Hugues and the guillotine to Guadeloupe! We must have and independent judiciary and nothing else will do. Please mr. James, concentrate on this and steer away from mob rule. It does not become you.

The police must receive instruction from the government in order to investigate crime in Dominica. The people must help the police regain their independence before the people take law enforcement into their hands.

Eddison James must have finally lost his marbles. Peoples court indeed. Are there any intelligent people with common sense left in the Workers party.
This is not the way to impress the people that they are a viable opposition and replacement for the government.
We need an opposition of men of virtue and integrity. Integrity would make them return to parliament. They accuse the PM of disrespecting the laws of the land then they do the same thing. What example for the next generation. Shame on you Eddison James. You will never again be PM of Dominica. Your Party is just history.

Jump high jump low unless the opposition goes to parliament and give the citizens of this country an alternative to what exists they will soon be history.they can not continue to be parasites by depending on the talk shows. The speaker is absolutely no excuse for absenting themselves from parliament.

My sentiments exactly. In my humble opinion the continuing boycott of Parliament by the opposition is disrespectful, thoughtless, inconsiderate and indeed an insult to the people who, despite all the odds, went out and voted for them! It is time they do the right thing, go to Parliament and represent those who have placed their confidence in them by electing them as their Parliamentary Representative.

That case is for the police and magistrates court it is not for people to intervene and take matters into their own hands. The opposition must start seeking truth to power by encouraging people to respect and go through the proper legal channels to deal with crimes of any nature in Dominica. U cannot encourage people to pursue the course of justice by taking matters into their own hands, pretty soon u will be calling for vigilantes to uphold and execute the law when u feel that it is not moving at your preferred pace or in your specific direction.

Q95 and People’s Forum are not the courts of law nor are they responsible for casting valid judgement on any legal matter in Dominica, it is one thing to have the public voice it’s opinion on a matter but it is the right thing to let the law take it’s course and have justice done without interference and through the proper legal channels.

All this talk about the Police force being incompetent in handling the matter is pure rubbish. The opposition’s over interest in this case has the sole purpose of making political mileage. The opposition did not give the police a chance to investigate the incident, they went ahead and did their own investigations, gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses the morning of the crime and had their case and assumptions on the radio from the morning after the incident. All this publicity could not have benefited the police investigations but the opposition used it to precisely create a platform upon which they could discredit the police commissioner (with whose very appointment they had issues), the police force and by extension the entire justice system and then drag Skerrit and his Government in their bouyon with accusations of interference and obstruction of justice.

For the opposition this case is not about solving crime it’s about playing dirty politics and making false accusations with the hope of misleading and miseducating a sympathetic nation.

Wow!! That’s interesting!! First there was the “People’s Parliament”; now there’s the “People’s Court”. I wonder what’s next; the “People’s Militia” and “vigilante Justice”? Looks like a dangerous and disturbing trend to me. Lord protect us from the politicians, propagandists and pessimists (tripple P’s); and bless us with economists, engineers and entrepreneurs (tripple E’s), so we can move this country forward. Amen.

I really do not understant this Oppositon..”He believes police are not vigorously pursuing the case and “the people’s court” must address it.” Wasn’t it the same set who chastize the government the day after the incident for wanting to bring down Scotland Yard?

When would the Opposition learn that bring down the Government through this method would not allow them to win election…What is their 20 year national plan for the country if they win in 2012? What fiscal Policies would they embark on…What Internation Relation method would the adopt?, What can be done to decrease Unemployment, Increase pension and Salries? that is what i want to hear
