PM announces date for general elections

Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said the next general election in Dominica will be held in 2014, as he dismissed opposition claims of a return to the polls this year.

Skerrit responded to the claims at the first delegates’ conference of the Dominica Labour Party, since the 2009 general election, held in Grand Fond on Sunday.

“There are those out there who ask for a date for the next elections and ladies and gentlemen I feel obligated to give them one; therefore, I am pleased to announce that general election in Dominica shall be held in 2014,” Skerrit said.

Meantime Prime Minister Skerrit and Education Minister Petter St. Jean have been returned unopposed to their positions of party leader and president, respectively.

The new vice president of the Dominica Labour Party is Health Minister Julius Timothy; Deputy leader, Ambrose George; Public Relations Officer, Dominica’s ambassador to Venezuela Philbert Aaron; Treasurer, Tammy Jean-Jacques; International Secretary Charles Savarin; Trade Officer, Bernard Nicholas; and Youth Officer, Ericson Robinson.

Sonia Williams was voted Education officer and Edward Registe will continue to serve as General Sectary of the Dominica Labour Party.

Now that the PM has publicly anounced that elections will be held in 2014, 5 years after 2009, all opposition parties should begin working toward that date, and maybe even a year or two earlier. Why wait for a day and month to be announced?
Start developing a plan to win the next general elections. Begin working with the people at all levels: grassroots, civil servants, Diasporans to develop a meaningful manifesto. Focus on how you will move the country forward. How will you address unemployment, how will you create employment opportunities? How will you address the social problems facing the country? What about crime and mental illness? domestic violence? child abuse? What incentives will you give to those in the Diaspora who are willing to return home? What will you do about agriculture? commerce? tourism?

Now is the time to develop that plan; to develop a new group of leaders who will move the country forward. Develop a new message that can resound in people’s hearts. Stop the criticizing and focus on rebuilding.

Without a concerted effort to organize an opposition, it is pointless to complain.

I DO NOT BELIEVE ANY THING SKERRIT SAYS. AND THIS IS JUST A FRONT FOR THE DFP AND UWP TO GO TO SLEEP WHILE HE CALLS A SNAP ELECTION LATER THIS YEAR . SO WE MUST BE A LERT AND SHOULD NOT BE SUPRISED BY ANY ANNOUNCEMENTS.

THESE PAID POLITIANS IN THIS NEW DLP ARE DESPERATE AND WE WILL NOT TRUST THEM.

ANY HOW,, IS NO WAY THEY WILL GET THIS MAJORITY IN PARLIAMENT, BECAUE ALL THE DIASPORANS WON’T RETURN TO PROP-UP THIS CORRUPTION IN GOV’T.

MANY ARE ALSO ASKING YOU TO COME CLEAN ON YOU DUAL CITIENSHIP ISSUE WHILE YOU CONTESTED ELECTIONS. SO GIVE THE TRUTH ON THIS ONE.

This was one of the best speeches that PM skerrit has delivered. He addressed all Dominican politically, socially, educationally, spiritually, and morally. I was deeply touched especially on the question of education and the quote of Nelson Mandela, oh boy, I was indeed moved. This just said to me its time to return home.

 “There are those out there who ask for a date for the next elections and ladies and gentlemen I feel obligated to give them one; therefore, I am pleased to announce that general election in Dominica shall be held in 2014,”
Common Mr. PM, you were once upon a time teacher. Many said you were a good teacher. Why now should you try and turn that plate around? This is not a date. That’s a YEAR!!!!! a date would be something like 14/02/2014

If I am right I think a day and month can only be given 21 days before election. The year can be given any time.

      February 14, 2011

Google is your friend you know that right?

      From Cambridge Dictionary Online

      date
      • a numbered day in a month, often given with a combination of the name of the day, the month and the year
      • a particular year
      • a month and a year

Notice the second one? Skerrit is in the clear so you need to chill out.

Well that’s when elections were meant to be and I didn’t expect for that to change. I guess it might if he is found guilty. But imagine if he isn’t found guilty. Then uwp may have just put him there for another 15years. I just wish uwp wod outline their future plans for Dominica. Plans if hey were to be elected. Plans even though they are not elected. Plans to Put the opposition under pressure to do even better. I mean please do just that and leave the slander alone
