PM, Astaphan scoff at UWP leadership change

Prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, and Senior Counsel, Tony Astaphan, have both scoffed at the idea that talk show host and journalist, Lennox Linton, will be taking over the helm of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP).

Astaphan described Linton as a man “who has failed in the front line” while Skerrit said he does not feel threatened by any leadership change in the UWP.

On Monday, Member of Parliament for Marigot, Edison James, made it official that he will not be seeking re-election in the next general election and also said that he will be giving up his role as political leader of the UWP.

James said he would support Linton, who is being considered for the role of the party’s political leader.

At a press conference last week, even before James’ official announcement, Skerrit said he does not feel threatened by any move in the UWP’s leadership structure pointing out that he was able to defeat the party at the last general election.

According to Skerrit at that time Ron Green, Claudius Sanford and James were all leaders of the party, yet they were defeated by the Labour Party.  He said the same thing is going to happen at the next poll, no matter who leads the UWP.

“Whether it is Lennox Linton … it could be Ronnie Isidore, it could be (Claudius) Sanford and so forth, anyone of them is six and half a dozen,” he said. “They are all the same.”

Astaphan said on the Next Level program on Kairi FM on Tuesday night, that Linton had failed to provide a winning momentum for the UWP although “he was on the radio every single day for the 2000 and 2005 elections.”

He noted during that time the Labor Party actually increased its majority in terms of the popular vote and seats in parliament.

“The party has now decided to put a man that has led the campaign for the United Workers Party on the radio for approximately 13 years … and you take this man who has failed on the front line to produce a winning strategy, a winning momentum to enable the United Workers Party to have some success,” he said. “In fact between 2005 and 2009 when he was at his most venomous on Q95 the UWP lost 4,000 votes.”

“So I am saying, why him?” Astaphan queried.

Thank you DNO for being an information source to Dominicans (at home and abroad) and friends of Dominica.

I’ve been prompted to comment by the contributor who kindly carried out a “survey” of responses regarding support for the political parties in Dominica. S/he points to the overwhelming support in favour of the UWP over Labour and concludes that the overwhelming majority cannot possibly be wrong.

I would like that contributor to consider taking a much bigger sample (could be random) of articles and responses. I suspect that s/he would see similar results.

my own (non scientific) observation lead me to question the ‘quality of the comments’ on DNO articles and which articles are being commented upon.

Finally, I would like to suggest to DNO that it should offer a periodical ‘editorial’ like most other news providers.

The main goal of every Political Party is to be elected to form a Government but before that can happen a plan or strategy has to be put into place. What The UWP is doing right now is executing such plan for the next coming elections. The announcements that Lennox is running for the party Leadership unopposed is all planned. The UWP is riding on the popularity of Lennox for their leader to win the next election. The UWP thinks that a change of leadership in disguise will give them victory over The DLP. Let us not for get the DFP and the DLP joined forces in 2000 to defeat the UWP, again a plan which was executed by both parties to form a Government.

When The Hon.Edison James comes before the electorate and pretend he is stepping down as Leader of the party and would not oppose Lennox when he runs for the leadership of the party this just tells me that Edison is executing a plan set out by the Party in hope of winning the next elections.Let us not forget it is the same with The Hon.Hector John.I do not understand why all this hoopla. How can people not see this as strategy being implemented by the UWP for the next election, it is all about winning.

Now as to Lennox being the next Leader of the UWP and being hailed as a icon who is going to bring integrity, good Governance, stimulating the economy and reducing employment in the country is somewhat a fallacy.Politics and Politicians is not what we sometimes understand it to be.The electorate are always outsiders looking in and that view is not always accurate.Political necessities sometime turn out to be political mistakes. We are witnessing a very interesting time in our development Politically, we just have to wait and see how it unfolds.

I love the fact that some people consider UWP DEAD. i love death.Jesus Christ died too. A seed first has to die and then blossoms into a beautiful fruit tree. i was a 1st time voter last election.i loved my PM and campaigned among my friends on the ground. but the Hon. PM has done too many negative things. This time i will be campaigning For Lennox linton. i am an ardent listener of his program and was just praying silently for him to join the political arena. Dominicans just needed a good option. we were shaky with spags but we are more confident now. Spags no hard feelings. All the way with lenny> the comment from Rereree is right on point.

What about Tony Astaphan for Leader of the Dominica Labor Party. Tony for prime minister. What about that peeps.

  7. July 18, 2013

Silly, hypocritical and naive comments truly dilute the facts in any matter. We ALL know that Dominicans are without doubt going to sell their votes to whomever gives them money. For the last 13 plus years this has been the case, why in Heaven’s name do we expect it to suddenly change. The fact is Skerrit goes abroad and gets money to buy votes and UWP just does not have that ability. Linton may or may not be a better choice but with no money he certainly does not stand a chance in hell. In an article earlier this month Skerrit has already announced to his fans/supporters that he will be borrowing another 54 million dollars or so. I guarantee you that 54 million and whatever else he can get from China or Venezuela or Cuba or France or….will be strategically used to win him another term in his Office! That is why the man is confident and assured. It is because he has studied the People of Dominica and realized that a little bit of money thrown to the right people and and right places can guarantee you 100% an election in Dominica. I know it and EVERYONE commenting here does too. So all the talk that UWP supporters are doing here is just that…TALK! As long as Skerrit can find money to give Dominicans he will remain in power and THAT IS FACTS!!!!!!!

What makes you think that you have the facts on the matter. I think you are the one who is silly and diluting the facts. Most of what you said is such nonsense. When you said quote “Skerrit has already announced to his fans/supporters that he will be borrowing another 54 million dollars” isn’t that diluting the facts, using the words fans/supporters,and why are you so arrogant insisting that you personally guarantee that the $54 million The PM got from the various Governments is going to buy the upcoming elections. You have a right to believe what ever you want but you must also know a belief can the death of intelligence.

      • July 18, 2013

Gary your comment made absolutely no sense! My opinion is based on a track record that has remained steady and unchanged for over thirteen years in Dominican Politics. No matter how you choose to dissect the common sense truth it does not change the facts that Labour has access to borrowed funds and UWP just does not! It does not change the facts that Dominicans has voted for the party handing out the most money and promises for a number of years and will not break that trend based on rhetoric or speeches of condemnation. You know your Country as well as I do thus denying what has always been right before your eyes for decades is simply wishful thinking! IT TAKES MONEY TO DEFEAT MONEY!!! Sadly, UWP is no match in that Department! Dominicans will vote their handouts with the utmost joy only to cry in later years until handouts come around again in another election! Dear to tell me that’s wrong and then call yourself a HONEST Dominican!

Supporting a political party is one’s democratic right. However, the questions which begs to be asked are “Has the DFP, UWP, DLP made the standard of living better for All Dominicans”and “how many sustainable have been created by the parties in the last 32yrs?Additionally we must also bear in mind unlike the DFP (15yrs)and DLP (13yrs), UWP was only there for 3 1/2 yrs. By pure logic the time spent in office by the parties can only be fairly compared if DLP and DFP terms are used because their times are nearly equal. One might argue that there was perceived corruption under UWP but after spending using 1 million dollars of tax payers money Mr. Astaphan has yet to furnish a report to parliament and the people of Dominica. There might have well have had some corruption, for example there was the issue of the telephone bills to Belize by the then minister of communications and works which was brought up by the deceased Pierre Charles in Parliament and the also the West Indies Oil GAS Station log sheet which certain supporters had access to filling up their gas tanks like they were government workers. Hence we had the garbage bin scandal, the villa scandal, the passport scandal etc etc under the DLP. Under the DFP there was the Grace Tung passport and hotel issue, the Grenada money issue which was to be paid to police officers and was kept by the govt, theere was the tendering issue whereby on a certain contractor was given contracts in Roseau no matter who tendered, there was the selling of Domlec etc etc.
I see nor wear any party color, but as a civic minded individual I am worried about the trampling of rights and the inability of any government to provide affordable and practical standards of living for the people of this country. When do we as a nation demand more of our elected leaders? They all have fallen short but there is still time for redemption but the onus rest on the people of Dominica to define and demand that. For example, (no matter what party was in power) we are entering into another election cycle and we do not have voter registration cards or a purging of the electoral lists for each constituency. We cannot sustainably continue indefinitely along this path with any of the parties.

The Fact that Mr. James announce he will not be a candidate for the next election; now is the time, for the Prime Minister take the opportunity to thank Mr. James for his service to Dominica, on behalf of the Dominican people recognize his contribution to the development of the country.

This is what a leader does, you may not agree with the man, its ok to have differences of opinion; but show gratitude and respect for your predecessor.

Affirmative. He is very concerned because he does not know whom to believe anymore. He even distrusts members of his own cabinet. The worst thing is that neither he nor Tony Astaphan know when, where and if Lennox will expose the skeletons that remain hidden in their closets. If you have a clear conscience you would not have to worry about such things.

The Laws you say our Politicians go to Parliament to pass and impose on us,I would like to ask you
what makes these things The Law.It is the Law because we give them consent, that is what makes laws exist by our consenting to them,it is not the Politicians passing Laws in Parliament which makes something lawful

        July 20, 2013

@Gary your saying am narrow minded but are u for real with those quotes..”It is the Law because we give them consent, that is what makes laws exist by our consenting to them”.. So your saying we gave them consent when Pierre Charles pass tht levy on us also when Skerrit add his 15% Vat?..

“it is not the Politicians passing Laws in Parliament which makes something lawful”..??? okay so wait i’m confused..Isn’t that what a Parliament is there for?? ..Oh lord i’m having a debate with someone that hav no idea what his talking about..You aint worth any more replies, plzz educate yourself some more buddy.. Let me break it down to you…

Parliament- a system of government having the real executive power vested in a cabinet composed of members of the legislature who are individually and collectively responsible to the legislature.

Legislature- a body of persons having the power to legislate; specifically : an organized body having the authority to make laws for a political unit.

Legislate- to perform the function of legislation; specifically : to make or enact laws.

It nice to read all these comment and came to my own conclusion; There is a Wind of change in the air. People on a hold will only take so much, there will be a time when everyone says enough and that time is near :) Due to Sherrit’s record,
ANYBODY that’s going up against Sherrit, ALL DOMINICANS should rally behind that person, you don’t have to be a rocket scientice to know that :) Since after the bin bobbol, Dominicans should get reid of Skerrit and Co, but it’s never too late, there is a great desire for change and sherrit and Co know it, as a mater of fact it all begins to fall apart around Skerrit, his appointed Police Chef bailed out, and the one from Portsmouth Ian Douglas ready to jump ship, because after so many years, only now he wanna do some representating, dont buy that, he got to go.
No mater how linton is, I think he will be less corrupt that Skerrit and we should ALWAYS vote the less one, sensebel knowlege

Any body who actually vote labour again is shall I say it nothing but wicked you guys have been voting labour for the party couple years and cause the youth like me to go through this terrible economic state we can get any jobs and poverty is ever rising

A VOTE FOR LABOUR IS A VOTE FOR CORRUPTION AND GREED

A VOTE FOR WORKERS IS A VOTE FOR CHANGE

I hope the older generation will realize this and stop imposing poverty on the people

Then he was out.Remember he had all the gigs! marpin , what about, DCP public relations king the man was walking not only on workers but on cloud 9 then he had to run, then deported from Birdland to waterland. so now politics is all that’s left.i will be first to say he has some ability in oraration after all his parents were both teachers hence if the others didi not learn somethng he might have. But this guy is an opportunist just like all those boomboom flies of the infiltrated DLP looking for their pocket.
Eddie know he soon dead.He will never again will be or could have be prime minister again. The dream of becoming president when he picked Instru over Ron etc was proof. He still has espoire mal papay if in his dreams Local larry king wanna be (once upon a Past time_) wins the party nomination and becomes leader and by a dream(in our dreams) becomes P.M Eddie could be president.
But for this to happen pig will have to begin to fly. Metamorphosis takes thousands of yrs so not in our life time pigs gonna grow wings farless begin to fly.
DA needs some diaspora sisters and brothers who have their own monies to run for office as poverty always trip the local population.Look at poor(once upon a time)Medard and his associates.

One thing I know for sure is that there are many influencial and capable people who now purport to be Labourites who will come out and openly support the UWP in the next elections. These people are fed up with Skerrit’s arrogance and lies, and Tony’s meddling in the governance of the country. There are also many good candidates who will surface and be counted for the opposition. I know of a CEO of a private sector association who will provide much support and give much advice to the UWP when the time comes. I personally believe Lennox is a good choice for leadership of the UWP. He brings to the office much more than Skerrit brought when the latter was made PM. Read my lips.

If I might add. No matter who runs for Prime Minister, they should not hold the position of Finance Minister also. This will bring to question the Integrity of the Office. A professional in the Accounting field or Business would better show the honesty of the government. I do not mean to say or accuse anyone of not following the rules, it holds that any question of funds misuse would be removed.

And this is why I never liked his style of journalism. You cannot be a journalist and be bias. You have to keep that in check. Lennox has had a long career as a journalist, he didn’t just fall off the banana truck. He has worked tremendously hard and honest to be where he is today. You may not like his politics, fine, but show the man some respect. His reporting is mot based on lies or deceit but truth. You need to ask yourself why you vote for Skerrit but it’s Tony that speaking. Did you also vote for a CEO of Dominica? We need to stop embracing corruption and give men of goodwill a chance. So my comments has to be limited to the comments you made regarding Lennox Linton’s ideology on the international scene.

In case you do not know the name Dominica does not ring a bell internationally, unless it pops up in some bad or derogatory way. If you goggle (criminals want forging passports to buy,) the first name of any country that will pop up is Dominica, and I am talking about our Commonwealth of Dominica!

Other than that, the name of Dominica politicians does not ring any bell outside of Dominica; except, perhaps on some island in the Caribbean!

Skerrit cannot be happy with the prospect of going up head to head against, arguably, the greatest communicator in the country. In fact I believe Skerrit must be peeing in his pants, knowing that his oratory and communication skills lack polish and sophistication.
A second reason I believe Skerrit must be feeling uncomfortable is that he and his followers will not have the luxury of the “barabas” factor. In my view, and I suspect in the view of many, lennox Linton can match Skerrit if the metric is charisma.
And thirdly, and most importantly, a Linton administration would be a breath of fresh air for the country’s image and reputation. If the truth matters voters will have a real choice because Linton has the luxury of an excellent reputation, impeccable poise and exudes a sense of confidence that Skerrit cannot fake.

We need to hear unequivocally from both leaders what their plans are for the next couple of tears. The Dominican people should set the stage for open transparent debates and we will judge. The ministry of employment needs to put out the job numbers in the last 6 months or last 10 years?
At this juncture in our sad economic state of affairs, change is not an option, its a must for us to go forward. Why do we rant and rave over politicians.. create drama and tribal war… We are always in their interest at least in their heads we are.. still they end up being crooked politicians in our eyes… because it comes with the title..they make decisions some we like …some we dont is simple…we put them in power … We cuss over them we put a next party in power and then we cuss them too… so we love to cuss… why don’t they do this better or this one would be greater… on this leader is the best and then we always find something that dont suit who we are… then we call them dictators and do something stupid like alert the us government… that we living in chaos… man we need to walk the streets of Bagdad or somalia or even Haiti to see what chaos is… sometimes we dont even know what we have till we loose it….fix the damn pot hole in front of your front door…. and dont depend on politicians to be your moses… if every man can his own Moses what a greater place this would be…

Dominicans! Look at the most prosperous country on earth-America. Do you know something about their president? He can only last for TWO terms (8 years)! You know what that does- new vision, improvement (obviously not in all case- but generally true). If something is working, why don’t you try it? Look at countries that had the same leader for decades, and compare. I am not a Lennox fan, but I have listened him over the years and find him to be very brilliant, and believe he will bring some integrity and new vision to the governance of Dominica. I am certainly interested in Dominica politics again!

Young people! it is time for us to rise up, put our fingers to work and vote out the Dominica Labo Party. They have not created any opportunities for us, I can well understand that when opportunities don’t come knocking, we must create our own, but a lot of us have tried only to be pushed deeper into the gutter. I have never voted against the UWP because I have always seen the potential in the persons who were willing to represent us, but alas!, Alas! Our people are being fooled and for what, a $100.00 bill or a few building materials. 80. Hmmmmm
    July 17, 2013

    Dear Mr. Skerrit

True, you may not be worried but middle class people like myself are seriously considering this new option. Why? Because we have been left out by your party. We are not poor and begging so we don’t get anything. Yet we pay the most tax. Most of us before we see our salary you have gotten yours. We pay VAT on everything we purchase. We build our homes (Cause we cannot get free homes from the government) and then we have to pay so much VAT on building materials. We are the ones truly suffering in the country. But we are hardworking and we have pride so we just take it one day at a time. We won’t get scholarships for our kids becuase your party assumes we can afford. So we further tighten our belts to give our kids a good education that the poor are getting and the priviledged ones.

So we are therefore once again considering the UWP. Because we voted for your administration with high hopes and you have failed us.

    • July 17, 2013

Did you vote for a house and a scholarship? Should it not be those that are unable to help themselves that need assistance the most? Well, well, I must say, it is true that those who have it have it all and want more, and those who do not have should remain the HAVE NOT.

I guess on that note SKERRIT WILL WIN because there are MORE people that need assistance than those who do not.

      • justice
        July 17, 2013

You need to educate yourself and get a job. Begging is not the solution. Don’t you want development, money in your pocket, and freedom? Why bring yourself so low for a party? :(

  81. Reason
    July 17, 2013

I’m a UWP support and is very thankful for the work Lennox Linton has done re investigative journalism. I think he has done and continues to do an excellent job. But I’m just not sure if he is the best person to lead the party. I have no objection with him as a candidate for any constituency and even a minister If the party happens to win; but just can’t get it with him as party leader and possible PM? Additionally, I’m concern that he might continue to focus his attention on the “bads” of the DLP administration rather than focus on the development of the country. We know all about the corruption, we need to hear of the plans for the development of the country. I really have not heard much of that from Linton’s programme (I’ve heard some, but not much).

Further, we need people like Lennox Linton to continue to do what he has done re investigative journalism. As a party leader (even if opposition leader) I don’t see it’s in the best interest of the party for him to continue to focus on investigative issues as he has done in the past. So who will if not him? (Maybe this is not a good enough reason). I believe in the talent base philosophy, and it’s very clear what Linton’s talent is; but then again maybe we might not have seen all he has to offer. Maybe there is some hidden talents within waiting to be harnessed.

There have also been concerns about Linton not being “in-touch” with the man on the street. I don’t know Lennox Linton personally so I can’t comment on that, but for the many undecided voters these concerns may become a factor, especially running against a personality as Skerrit (call a spade a spade, Skerrit has the personality to win any election).

The question therefore remains who is the best candidate? Prevost? (my top pick, but maybe on the mature side and some may claim the party needs a younger leader to help rebuild at this stage. I think the party needs an experience seasoned campaigner. If they go with Prevost, should we expect a new leader within the next 2 elections? Age may be against Prevost in building the party. But how safe is the RC seat? My opinion, maybe not unless there is some accommodation with the DFP. Offer them a Ministry for this accommodation and go head to head with the DLP will be a safer bet). Fountain? (excellent choice but, maybe not a party faithful and insufficient presence on the ground in Dominica)? Sanford (why not?, would his race play against him? He’s young, intelligent, would almost guarantee the CT seat which is never safe in my opinion) My boy Hector? (Current opposition leader, young, in-touch with the people; maybe not Prime Ministerial; but who thought Skerrit had PM pedigree until a few years into his tenure?)

I hope UWP remember the Earl Williams/Julius Timothy case. DLP won the 2000 elections based on allegations of corruption against Timothy; what happened after he was passed on for leadership of the party? We all know. It maybe be a different situation, but I’m certain the DLP will dangle some millions in front any UWP candidate that is passed on this time especially if it’s a UWP strong hold.

    Reason this out party faithful.

    • July 17, 2013

You said it, Lennox Linton has done an excellent job in investigative journalism, but “I’m just not sure if he is the best person to lead the party”. Yeah, he could be a candidate for any constituency and even a minister IF the party should win; but cannot see him as party leader and possible PM. Agreed, I do not know him but apparently you do, if you are concerned that he might continue to focus his attention on the “bad” of the DLP administration rather than focus on the Development of the Country, I, personally, think he should not be a candidate for election. According to you, he has NO PLANS for the Development of the Country because you really have not heard much of that from his program (“I’ve heard some, but “not much””).

According to you, people like Lennox Linton should continue to do what he has done best, “investigative journalism”. “As a party leader (even if opposition leader) “I do not see it”. “So who will if not him”? MAYBE NO ONE. I think maybe this is a good enough reason for him to not waste the people’s money and their vote. You said, and I agree that “his true talent base philosophy and it is very clear what Linton’s talent is “investigative journalism”. I think you have seen what he has to offer, “investigative journalism”. Maybe there are NO hidden talents within waiting to be harnessed. You cannot wait for hidden talents right before election.

You asked, “who would have thought Skerrit had PM pedigree? Answer, those who voted him into office, and a few years into his tenure he has PROVEN that he HAS PM PEDIGREE.

PM Skerrit can sleep comfortable at nights with Lennox as leader of the Opposing Party. Even though many claim that the UWP team have acquired degrees, the fact remains that their actions prove other wise. The Electorate is not going to put an x to a name based on qualifications, it will come down to empathy and sympathy for the people. You must interact with the people, go to the most impoverished villages and sit with the people, never act like you are superior to others. Visit the homes of the poor, listen to the cries, and propose solutions to lessen their burden. Both PM and Mr. Astaphan are right, Mr. Linton is no threat. He is seriously lacking. Wake up from the fairy tale dream, get real UWP. Stop boasting about degrees while your actions contradict your claims.

We must not toot the trumpet too quickly. It is all well and good that Mr. Linton is going up for elections, let us evaluate their policies.

Skirret is very arrogant and if he wasnt scared he would never had commented on the change. I think UWP would be better cause we need a change. The people cant stay dependent on the government like this we need a government which can create jobs for the people and build the economy . These greed driven politicians need to go.

Uwp will develop the country better .. cludius is an economis and dr.fountaine is an economist as well so they will know how to build a country . Uwp members is much more humble

Voted for skerrit I left college maintain a high GPA still can’t get a successful job. High time skerrit focus on the relevant issue in dominica n quit focusing on the irrelevant. I support Lennox’s candidacy for one reason: For years now Lennox has been advocating good governance, honesty and fairness particularly among the leadership on the island.

It would be funny, if he gets he is chosen as leader just to make his words backfire on him. That would be a hard slap, he will never recover from….so, as for me and my house, I will give him a chance…

I always say, with all the dirt heaping around Skerrit’s feet….I mean, come on people, we cannot be naive and say some are not true…Skeritt has tarnished himself and his reputation, he cannot be trusted, is embroiled in too many questionable practices and thus has defiled the office of PM.

Skerrit needs to be replaced and for me, and whose the best person to put there but Lennox, a man who has been for more than a decade, on the radio highlighting Skerrit’s ills…

Let me see when he gets there, if he won’t fall into the latent traps that accompany leadership…I’m giving any fly on the ballot in my constituency a vote, if it is Lennox who will be Leader of this country at the end.

And I won’t be silly like many Dominicans, who see the need for change, who lambast the government for its supposingly wrongdoing, but would say, I not voting….so, why speak!

I am no fan of Lennox Linton, but he has demonstrated more leadership skills than both Anthony Astaphan and Roosevelt Skerrit combined.
Every single story Lennox has broke has proven to be truthful, this includes the Prime Minister’s wedding, which even Tony did not know about.
Thinking of Lennox as PM is a bit frightening because this was never part of my thinking, but if an unknown boy from Vielle Case could end up being Prime Minister, who is Tony and Roosevelt to ridicule Lennox? Who I’m sure will do a much better job than Roosie Douglas, Pierre Charles and Roosevelt Skerrit combined.

    • July 17, 2013

I am no fan of anyone, but what kind of leadership skills has Lennox Linton demonstrated? I thought to be a PM takes more than talking on the radio. Lennox is a reporter, he should report the truth.

The Prime Minister’s wedding WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A PUBLIC AFFAIR, it was his choice/decision to keep it that way. Tony nor anyone else had to know about it. Someone commented about the PM’s wedding, which I agree with, stating that Dominicans, those that are not in his favor, would have said he took THEIR MONEY for his personal use; therefore, he did what he had to do with HIS MONEY, and kept it a private matter. Kudos to him.

I agree that the thought of Lennox as PM is frightening. I do not know who Lennox is anyway, but the UNKNOWN BOY from VIEILLE CASE could end up being Prime Minister AGAIN. UNKNOWN BOY from VIEILLE CASE? I think Roosevelt has reason to ridicule Lennox. Lennox may do a better job than Roosie Douglas and Pierre Charles, but so far, Roosevelt Skerrit has done a DARN GOOD JOB.

I think the Dominicans that continue to say “if not Skerrit, who else” are those who know the difference, and have seen the difference. The UNKNOWN BOY from VIEILLE CASE, as you put it, WILL CONTINUE TO DO A DARN GOOD JOB.

By-the-way, the correct spelling for the Village is VIEILLE CASE, NOT Vielle Case.

        Dear Observer,
I sincerely hope that the elections will be conducted fairly… First, for example we still do not have voter registration cards and a purging of the electoral list.Second, the DLP can still bring in vast numbers of the diaspora to vote with impunity even if like myself they have been out of Dominica for years. Third, I hope that they will not for example go to persons homes (in Pte Michel) and give seniors four and five hundred dollars to vote for them or purchase crack cocaine and marijuana to give to young men of the village to vote for them. I hope the DLP conducts this election openly and fairly.

I see ARROGANCE AT ITS PEEK. He must be convinced that he is doing a darn good job – which he is not. His confidence comes in his Chavez style forte to bribe the weak voters. And sadly enough, he may win at all cost to Dominicans at home and abroad.

    • July 17, 2013

Guys, do not let your guard down. Do not be too confident. Do not be too overly zealous. Anything is possible. Linton may not have done his part in bringing forth enough voters for the last two elections, but as much as people want Roosevelt out you never know.
