Dominica’s Attorney General Levi Peter has been called on to review the Standing Orders of the House of Assembly in order to decide whether the Opposition can legally carry on with its boycotts of parliament.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, in his apparent disapproval of yet another walk-out staged by the United Workers Party (UWP) parliamentarians from the House on Tuesday morning, charged the AG with the responsibility of reviewing the related laws.
The UWP have cited fraudulent 2009 general elections as the reason for the boycott which began in January 2010.
“I am not sure how long the parliament can allow something like that to continue and I believe that it is important that we charge the Attorney General, Madam Speaker, to review the standing orders in respect to that. These are substantive bills before the House, Madam Speaker, substantive bills,” Skerrit told parliament this morning.
“Our own domestic, regional, international commitments to fighting terrorism to fight money laundering, Madam Speaker, these are substantive matters that every member of the house should be here to shout and to say ‘yes I support it.’ But instead Madam Speaker, they say that they do not want any anti-money laundering law in Dominica, they’re not interested in any anti-terrorism financing law in Dominica,” he said.
He added,”We have a $62-million supplementary appropriation Madam speaker, projects which touch the core of the people of Dominica, the core of the economy, the core of the infrastructural development of this country Madam Speaker. They are saying we’re not coming here to support this $62 million supplementary appropriation.”
Has the opposition violated the constitution?Roosevelt Medard Skerrit did on many occasions.Was the opposition consulted on the appointment of the police commissioner?Therefore we’ve got an illegal police commissioner.Was Roosevelt Medard Skerrit qualified to be nominated as a candidate for general elections?Therefore he is holding the office of Prime Mistake illegally.After taking a loan to build a state malice,was there a bidding process?Therefore the Chinese are here building the state malice illegally.If we have an illegal Prime Mistake,an illegal police commissioner,therefore all the institutions run by this illegal government is illegal.So anyone who is a law abiding citizen,who respects the constitution should not attend this illegal parliament.Otherwise they would be breaking the law by aiding and abetting.So UWPis right.
But Ron Green violated the constitution even before Skerrit. Remember he was an MP and minister for 15 years while holding a US passport.

Live in the Town for example since most Town folks are from the country. another note is that persons can move from one consistuency to live due to most persons are renting. DNO, the question that Roosevelt Skerrit would like the AG to investigate is whether the payment of the salaries of the Opposition Members can be stopped if they continue to boycott the Parliament not whether the boycott can be stopped.

Mr Prime Minister, you cannot control what the UWP Reps choose to do but you can neutralize them. Get 4 volunteers among honourables Johnson Drigo, Ivor Stephenson, Ronald Toulon, Kelver Darroux and Sam Martin . Have them resign or “fired” from the DLP to become independent Parl Reps. Section 66(5) will not allow any of them to be the Opposition Leader but Hector John won’t have a majority of opposition Parl Reps. His title will be rescinded and all his Senators will be gone. If they want to play hardball, give them hardcore politics. Continue to take care of all constituencies as far as resources permit on a priority basis. It’s unfortunate that it has come to that but these are the options our democracy provide. Bring it on!!

That’s a good point but in our democracy, majority rules. If the majority wants a national ID card as opposed to a voter’s ID card, then so be it. How can the minority dictate to the majority. They can suggest; ok, but acceptance is optional.
As far as the voter registration list is concerned, every UWP Consttuency Association, if any, can verify and clean up that list. They can present any bogus names to the Electoral Commission (EC) and to the courts, if needs be. The UWP appoints members to the EC too.

we need complete reregistration . Is time my father MR. leon lewis stop vote in my constituency as for the 33 years of my life he have never lived there and never has been . Again one should not register in a constituecy that he or she have not been residing in for the last six month. This has long been ignored and more reason for reregistration.
If the national ID contains both place of birth and eligible constituency to vote ( because voting is note where you were born but where you resides in the last six month) then we can accpet national id bearing in mind that those who never lived in dominica or hasn’t lived there for six month would have that space on their national ID card blank and not eligible to vote.
