PM issues stern warning to incoming cabinet

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has made it clear that slackness will not be accepted within the new cabinet of ministers.

Skerrit announced a new cabinet at Windsor Park Stadium on Monday after securing 18 of the 21 seats at the last general election.

Despite suggestions that the high number of winning candidates will give the Dominica leader a hard time in assigning cabinet positions, Skerrit says while it has its challenges, the high number gives a “greater mix of talents” to select from.

“It can be easy and it can be difficult at the same time; it depends on how you want to look at it,” Skerrit told state-run radio.

However, Skerrit underscored that ministers chosen, must perform.

“No minister is going to come in this 2010 and work eight to four, and not be able to respond to things practically, when the prime minister asks. You have to work.

“I’m not going to waste my time in this cabinet; we have a lot of work to do; this is a very serious matter; we dealing with a very difficult environment; men must not just come with a tie and a shirt and say they are ministers, you have to roll up your sleeve and put your boots on and go in the field and solve the problems of the people of Dominica and to create better opportunities for them,” Skerrit asserted.

He was also quick to point out the likelihood of a cabinet reshuffle in the future.

“Nobody is expected to be there for five years in a position…When you see how people perform, whether they’re up to task … where they may be better suited based on their contributions to the cabinet and their interests, and then we have to make some changes around.”

An address to the nation by the Prime Minister will form part of the swearing-in ceremony; part two of the occasion will comprise performances by local and foreign acts.

  2. Dominican to de bone!!!
    January 5, 2010

Yes Da, I hope that all works out for the best but there are a number of things that you must ask yourselves! Why is it that the Prime Minister is so arrogant about being in power, remaining there and answering questions related to the bobol allegations among other things? Does he not understand that he HAS to answer to the electorate? Why are there so many allegations………there is no smoke without fire!!!!!! Why is it that since the government of the Freedom Party leftoffice that ministers no longer feel that they should pay for their own car, service it and pay for the gasoline they use? How much more are we paying for………..their phonebills, light bills, water bills etc too nuh? Remember Miss Charles used to drive her own little Mazda 323 to work until her life was threatened and she was forced to travel with bodyguards?????????? What an example that was to us all!!!!!!!! Remmember my people? Ask yourself who is putting the gas in their cars for them to dweeveh???????? If it is us Dominicans then it should not be (and WE ARE ENTITLED TO KNOW!!!!) If it is Comrade Chavez giving free gas, ask yourself why?????????? In exchange for what??????????? MAYBE BIRD ISLAND……..BEHIND OUR BACKS??????????? Look now that this Nigerian boy tried to blow up that plane over Chicago they are talking about MORE RESTRICTIONS ON SUSPICIOUS OR UNFRIENDLY STATES………..Look out Da because with Mr. Chavez (a smooth talker who knows what the poor man wants to hear and says it to get his favour……..BUT WHY…..AHA!!!!!!!!! TO STAY IN POWER TO ACHIEVE HIS GOALS!!!!!!!!!!) we are heading for a headon colision with the USA, Canada and others because they will say that we are a problem just like him and we will see what will happen with the visa situation………….WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!

REMEMBER DOMINICANS, MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS THAT YOU ARE THE ONES WHO ELECT YOUR LEADERS AND YOUR REPRESENTATIVES HAVE A RESPONSIBILITY TO BE HONEST WITH YOUR MONEY AND YOUR FUTURE, NOT A RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE THAT THEY BENIFIT THE MOST BUT THAT THE COUNTRY ON A WHOLE BENIFITS THE MOST!!!!!!!!!!

ANY MAN WHO IS ARROGANT ENOUGH TO SAY THAT HE IS NOT ACCOUNTABLE OR CANNOT BE REMOVED OR WILL NOT HOLD FURTHER ELECTIONS OR THAT HE WAS CHOSEN OR APPOINTED BY GOD DOES NOT DESERVE TO BE IN THE POSITION OF POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bE CAREFUL DOMINICANS BECAUSE MR. CHAVEZ, THE EXAMPLE HAS SHUT DOWN RIVAL RADIO STATIONS AND NEWS MEDIA IN HIS COUNTRY BECAUSE HE SAYS THAT THEY CANNOT CHALLENGE HIM!!!!!!!!!!! SKERITT IS LEARNING FROM HIM……………….WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One love for Da and for my people!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    are we Dominicans or Dummy-ni-cans?
what qualifies one to be a minister for education?
are we really serious about education in this country?
there should be no more need for qualification to be a teacher when any teacher can just move up to Minister for ed.

We know already that they can’t even talk in your presence,so you will deal with them.I thought Dominica was doing extremely well, and the environment was not at all hostile. That’s what i understood during the campaign. In fact we even gave money to 2 countries.
What is Darroux doing in Fisheries and Environment? What is Justina doing in Sports?
We must stop playing game with Dominicas development.

    January 4, 2010

    Thank you Prime Minister Skeritt

Gone are the days of Rhetoric! We need action!

Gone are the days where ministers go around with a brief case pretending to be busy!

We need productive and committed ministers!

We need ministers who can perform and deliver!

We need ministers who can provide efficient service to the Dominican people!

We need parliamentarians who provide good representation to their constituents and who work towards meeting the needs of their constituents.

We, the Dominican people will be scrutinizing the performance of every single parliamentarian!

    Patriotic Dominican

This man has said he is appointed by God….imagine that.
This man compares himself to Obama and thinks he has done better than Obama.
We have a nut case running the country.
Thankfully not everyone believes in this fake called Skerrit.

Like I already said, Tim will have his 6 or 7 faction in the government and he will show off his true colors and challenge you for leadership of d party and as cabinet head!

This afternoon I looking and see if u smart as most people does think and see if u going and give Tim Tim to head Finance and make Ambrose a backbencher!!

You better create a Ministry for Ambrose – anything – call it Minister of Implementation; Minister of mobilization; Minister of fraudulent and mafia relations, whatever.

The media from here and far will be there and will be reporting your first set of good moves or bad moves in this new term!

    Sincerely

    Your new opposition counterpart

    Sheldon

P.s. One more thing… remember you must always command the majority of elected members to remain as Prime Minister so careful how you treat big men and women in d cabinet – especially those that older than you and have assets just like you and can flex their political muscles and make you get mal vat and cold sweat! And we know Ambrose can flex.

The first 6 months of this year will be quite interesting!!!!
