PM says US action against Venezuela “unfair”

The Prime Minister at the ALBA summit with Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro
The Prime Minister at the ALBA summit with Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro

Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has described measures imposed by the United States against Venezuela as unfair.

He was addressing an ALBA summit in Venezuela on Tuesday.

“The imposition of this measure by the United States against Venezuela is really unfair..” he said.

Last week US President Barack Obama, issued an executive order which considers Venezuela a threat to the national security of the United States.

But Skerrit told the summit that “no country has such authority to impose a measure that way to a country like Venezuela or any country.”

He said the matter is not an expression of anti-American sentiments, but one of principle.

“And we should not negotiate principles, we can negotiate the words but not principles,” the Prime Minister said.

He continued, “So we’re here to tell the people of Venezuela that you are not alone in seeking justice …”

He went on to say that he believes in diplomacy and consensus to resolve differences between countries.

The Prime Minister described Dominica as a friend of the people of Venezuela and called for cooperation to repeal “this decision taken by the President of the United States” since, according to him, it has a “unilateral purpose.”

“I think, really, we cannot but express our solidarity with the people of Venezuela. I do not think we should be silent about the injustice of this action; we have a duty as leaders, officials to be accountable to our people,” he stated.

ALBA is made up of Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Ecuador, Granada, Nicaragua, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Venezuela.

    It is written:

”A doubled minded man is unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:8)

Obama has renewed diplomatic relations with Cuba in spite of their civil rights violations although Cuba has not changed, and is still as socialist and as cruel as ever.

Now he is threatening sanctions against Venezuela for what he perceives to be civil rights violations.

He has no problem taking on Venezuela yet does not dare to touch the Chinese government which limits the number of daughters a couple can have in China, kills baby girls, uses cruel measures to restrict freedom of worship, and has even announced that it is going to appoint its own bishops in the Roman Catholic Church contrary to the expressed wishes of the Vatican.

I have heard Obama say ”I and my wife are practicing Christians.” Yet it is known he is pro-abortion and pro-gay rights. He is also said to be a Muslim because of his Islamic leanings.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

Mr Skerrit looks out of place.
I hope dem alba leaders didn’t shove him into the spotlight as the fall guy. Just like he do to Kevlar darroux. Skerrit giving de impression that he represents the entire CARICOM on this. De sanctions isn’t against de government of Venezuela but selected officials with dubious dealings government itself has a nasty human rights records against opposition leaders/politicians, stifling dissent and denying its citizens right to pprotest.
Skerrit applaud de actions of the 7 government officials against who US assets are now frozen.
Dem officials hate ‘imperialit’ USA so much that they feel that their assets will be safe there as long as de local population doesn’t know.
Dem fellas have multi millions in Bandes Bank right in Venezuela, they living lavishly while citizens line up for a bread, soap, toothpaste, toilet paper
Skerrit should be ashamed of de thigs he support outside…making us at home feel he would do the same. Rotten!

Is that the same Roosevelt Skerrit I saw at the election in 2005? I’m shocked I really do not recognize him as the same man, honestly. He definitely does not look well, This is not a political statement as I’m really concerned about his well being. Is he receiving the care he needs?

Mr. Skeritt is normally the best dressed leader in the OECS. What happened this time? Mr. PM , whoever advised you to wear this shabby yard-wear (at this prestigious occasion) really blundered. You blew an opportunity to dazzle the audience and do your country proud.

In fashion sense it would not only be considered wardrobe malfunction but EPIC FAIL. Remember this was an official photo, and due to your majestic height and physical proximity to the Venezuelan leader it really undermined everything.

Here are but a few of the fashion violations:
    – Clothes is rumple
    – colour choice is inconsistent with the chavista socialist red
    – one solid colour is the preferred instead of the tacky stripes
    – shirt is unbuttoned in a casual way
    – everyone else is in formal wear
    – your pants is out of sync with the top.
    – this does not even qualify as a shirt jack, since the lapel is missing.
    – and much more…..

Dominicans and host country were shamed and insulted by this…

Did Skerritt know that he was going to meet with a Head of State? I mean the way the man dressed is deplorable to say the least. I’m embarrassed to be a Dominican when I see the leader looking a he a drunk night before a meeting. How can Dominicans support that noh!?

Dominica has bigger fish to fry yet Skerrit is bent on Venezuela’s issue with the US. It is only when each and every Dominican that applies for an American Visa is declined he will realize what he has done and maybe then he still wouldn’t even care… Skerrit is going down a terrible path… You cannot want to follow the leadership styles of Maduro and Kim Jong-un and then expect to sit with the President of the United States and laugh over tea. It is impossible. You are not fooling anyone but yourself…and just like the US invaded Grenada back in 1983…they too will invade Dominica for your foolery…

You are speaking for him. It is as if you know his mind. Who said he is following them? He is standing in support of him. There is nothing wrong with that.
You seem to be prematurely concerned that something bad will happen to D/cans. In fact, you made me laugh. Do not let your mind work overtime. Do you know the saying, “Your mind can make you sick or well?” It is time for you critics to think positively.
Venezuela has been assisting D/ca. It is a disgrace that you UWP supporters have so much to state against the PM and Maduro. Know that Maduro could be reading your comments; if not him but the Venezuela’s Ambassador.
You should be ashamed. You are giving D/ca and the government a bad name which none deserves. You should change and encourage others to do likewise.

You neo-Socialists are all thieves. I read your speech in Grenada defining your development strategy of aid and dependency which you call non-alignment! What is your view on President Chavez bodyguard now a billionaire, Mr Prime Minister? “The official listed on that account is Alejandro Andrade, who started off as a bodyguard for the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez and rose through the ranks to become National Treasurer from 2007-2010. Andrade was also president of the Economic and Social Development Bank of Venezuela (Bandes) from 2008-2010. During his time at the financial institution, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York charged four Bandes officials in a kickback scheme that generated $66 million revenue for a Miami brokerage, but Andrade was not named in the suit, according to the ICIJ.” What is your view on thieves in the brotherhood or comradeship as you guys call each other, my comrade Prime Minister?

Calling the U.S. actions unfair at an Alba summit in Venezuela is like singing to the choir. In order to ensure that Washington gets the message about its unfair actions against his friend, the Dear Leader needs to make it official and instruct his Ambassador in Washington to send a strongly worded diplomatic note to the State Department condemning their unfair actions and letting them know in no uncertain terms, that Dominica will not stand idly by in the face of their provocative and unfair actions . He should threaten them with sanctions like a trade and economic embargo, cutting off all Dominica aid to the US and imposing visa restrictions on all US citizens. Further, he should even threaten to withdraw his Ambassador from Washington. That way, they will understand that Venezuela is not alone in the fight but that they will also have to contend with Dominica , a very important trading partner and ally.

You find my writing boring? They can learn much from what I write if they have the aptitude. I cannot learn a thing from what some of them comment about. You should know that I am not the only one who commented on their writing. Therefore, do not make it sound as if I am the only one. Unless you do not make note of them but I have read their comments.
When I write the book it will not be boring. I have a lot of ammunition to write about.
I know what I write and it is not boring. Other people know what I write and they do not find it boring. The problem is some people do not like to hear/read the truth. They lambaste the PM and they do not want me and his other supporters to respond to their criticisms and nonsensical comments.
You must have noted how few DLP supporters respond to their comments. One day, UWP supporters will be the only ones commenting and no one will respond to theirs. Then you will have a concern and wonder why. This is what I mean.

You support your party and others support their party. Why are you offended when someone criticizes your party and you do the same toward their party?
Everyone does not respond to what you write so how do you know whether they find it boring or not?
You need to get a grip and stop thinking that everyone should support Skerrit. Individuals have the right to support whoever they want. Stop taking offense as though you are Skerrit’s wife.
You need to chill out and stop condemning people. People are free to be themselves and to express themselves via DNO. It does not matter whether you may consider some people to be illiterate but they are human beings just like you. Everybody does not get the same opportunities in life. Stop despising people the way you do and stop judging people through your religious, fanatic way.

At this time however, the Dominican Prime Minister’s speech of support lacked conviction and it lacked direction. March 18, 2015

DNO, as I watch the photo above, I am very embarrassed as a Dominican. DNO, six men were present in the photo and five of them were professionally dressed with their jacket and tie, while one of them, make it worse, standing at the front has a shirt that looked wrinkled, unbuttoned, and showing some chest. I really feel bad as a Dominican because I take pride in the way I dress.

“He said the matter is not an expression of anti-American sentiments, but one of principle.”

Skerrit so scared that he was very careful with the tone of his statement this time. Usually he is very busy to make anti-USA statements with boldness but this time around he based it on principle and not the usual tone. So yes he said something but what he said was very well calculated and very passive in nature.

This prime minister is a joke when it comes to foreign policy. He’d switch allegiances in a heartbeat if someone offered him a bigger check. Yes, we do support the people of Venezuela – we support them because they are being oppressed by a power-crazed lunatic, not because of US sanctions.

What rubbish is this guy talking about? The Venezuelan people are indeed seeking justice from the incompetent idiots who have brought their economy to a point of recession and their democracy to the point of frustration.
The Venezuelan people want to be free off Maduro and his Madness.

I thought Dominica was friends of the US too. What happened? SMH

      March 19, 2015

Well actually I thought we were ‘friends of all satellites of none’. Apparently we are only friends of Venezuela . Dominicans need to start speaking out against the government supporting Venezuela and their oppression against it’s own people.

The prime minister spoke about principle. He needs to take his own advice. He has compromised his principle over and over.

    Mr. PM
Did you do your due diligence and find out why the President Obama made such a definite statement/sanction against Venezuela? If Yes what was the reason? if No dont you think you are making an uninformed decision for the people of our country? putting us in crap that does not even affect us in any kind of way?

Mr. Pm i waiting for your response…… concerned citizen

So the PM has now turned Chief Negotiator and spokesperson for Venezuela. This is exceedingly hilarious. I wonder if he knows what he’s talking about. Venezuela doesn’t not stand alone, eh

Looks like it but Dominica will be next if he keeps opening his mouth. Who is Skerrit, to get involve when he has to depend on the USA even to have his son born there. I wonder why he did not send his wife to Venezuela to give birth there. Soon Venezuela will run out of money and see who he will be go begging to.

You are too unlearned and naive to know this would be a punishment for people as you. You will not escape for by your comments you will have brought it on Dominica and yourself.
You have nothing good to state. Do you expect to reap goodness from your comments which spew hatred?

    March 18, 2015

Roosevelt if you know the measures taken against Venezuela by the United States is unfair, why don’t you do something about it?

Perhaps you can take your own measures against the United States; perhaps you can impose sanctions on the United States, or maybe you could invade America, with the China trained paramilitary boys you have protecting you.

You know I am ashamed of myself for the idiot I was when I supported you in the past, I was warned. I defended you only to realize everything I was told about you is true. You look like a fool sticking your neck out for a dictator who tramples on the rights of the opposition and poor people of Venezuela, the same as you are doing to the opposition and poor people of Dominica. You playing big shot, but your petty stupid childish talk is of no consequence to America!

If I was Mr. Maduro, I would be pleased at Skeritt’s big man talk concerning the unfairness imposed by President Obama, but I would be concerned about the support shown by the Dominican people. After all the money spent in Dominica by Venezuela, Skeritt is showing a handful amount of Dominicans including children with placards in their hands supporting Venezuela. In my opinion, that is a colossus shame. Mr. Maduro should ask Skeritt for an explanation and demand a better or more organized show of support.

All you wanna get involved in big man ting when all you are little fish. The US considers Venezuela a threat to its national security, who are you to tell the US that they cannot do this. The US have a right to look in its best interest even if you are not in the best interest of your country. Have you found out why the officials of Venezuela was blacklisted? is it for drug trafficking offences, money laundering, the financing of terrorism? Are the policies of Venezuela impacting the national interest of the US creating a risk that there may be attacks against US interest.

You will support Venezuela because of your personal interest, not the interest of the people that gave you a mandate.
