PM Skerrit describes UWP protest actions as ‘laughable’

There are about two weeks left before bye-elections are held in the Marigot and Salisbury constituencies, an election that follows the United Workers Party’s boycott of parliament.

There are questions as to whether the UWP will boycott Parliament again, if it comes out victorious at the July 09 elections.

The UWP stayed out of parliament for three consecutive sittings after the last general election in which the ruling Dominica Labour Party obtained an 18-3 victory.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit told a program on state owned radio recently, “nothing in the constitution” says the UWP cannot stage a boycott; but according to Skerrit, Dominicans will be asked to advise the government on its course of action if the party stays out of parliament once more.

“This is something that we would certainly put to the people of Dominica to determine what we do in a case like this,” Skerrit stated.

He has described the UWP’s actions as “laughable”.

Ashlop, now I know that their are some very sick people in Dominica to say that the PM is a man of Jesus and to indicate that Edison is a man of Jesus is so rediculous you sound foolish. I would suggest you pray for the country and all it's people instead and since you open up the sudject your faith should not be in man it should be in the Lord Jesus always, so think before you post your comments..

Even the PM supporters know that of election of Dec..18 was not legitimate….on the other hand the UWP supporters understand that the action of boycott is appropriate since a lot of questions are not answered in parliament …have we not seen the dictorial aproach of Alix Boyd Knight? Dominica is for a few at the moment…some disciples of the DLP ..let me notify you Pm .. star issuing more writs for by-election becuase policy about quality is to do it right the first attempt so avoid trying to do it right in future attempts..
you are not a fair man and your action has effected in diminishing morals in Dominica,
only time will tell… Go is in control at all time, you are just passing

A good man is never honored in his own country. Some Caribbean islands wish they had a good man like Skerrit to lead them. The people who wish Jail and Death for that great leader are the same ones who try to bring down the great late Dame Charles. We never know what we got til it is gone…Skerrit is a man of Jesus and will continue to walk with his head up high over evil minded critics.

Skerrit himself is talking nonsense now. What he is saying is laughable, the rule of law has to prevail. This is not a matter for consultation the rules are there and they are clear, they just have to be applied. The UWP are the ones who should consult their supported for their next course of action. Skerrit should stop his demagogy and making Dominicans look as if they are ignorant!!!! Contradicting himself, he has no prerogative over the law and the rules of Parliament. These reckless statesments speak volumes!!!!

SVBaker, you might see the face of a prison before my Prime Minister. I know that is what you all UWPites praying for. But there is a God above. What the PM did to you was real bad. But he is still there working for Dominicans and we are grateful for this GOD sent Prime Minister. I pray everyday that the Good Lord continues to protect him from people like you.

It is a known fact UWP after losing the Election to the DLP of Rossie Douglas, has never given their Supporters full representation in Parliament, The Member for Wesley won his seat knowing he had a job to the USA where he spent for the 4 years before the December 2009 Election, he got a salary in the USA & a salary from Dominican each month, he only came to Dominica to attend Parliament so he would not lose his seat and salary. The Ex member for Salisbury now living in the USA made sure he sent a sick note to Parliament so he won't lost his seat or salary too, so this is nothing new to the UWP, these sorry excuses for men needs to grow the HELL up!

They cannot be more laughable than that MR. PM. They are ashame and right now they are going about telling the people that they will go to parliament if they are voted in.

I have never seen a bunch of educated men that are bent on wickedness and bound to shelf destruct. Shame you are my friend, but shame on you, for following a bunch of politically blind bunch. I know you can do better, we have had several sessions discussing and I know you do know better. Please move on and leave the guys in their mess.
