PM Skerrit predicts election day landslide victory for DLP

Skerrit greets supporters in Grand Fond on Sunday

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is reiterating that he is ready for general elections and is predicting a landslide victory for the Dominica Labour Party (DLP).

“I am not prepared to leaving not one seat to the United Workers Party at the next election,” he told the launch of a Labour Youth Organization branch in Grand Fond on Sunday night. “Not one seat ladies and gentleman. We shall return to office because you the people of Dominica will decide and make the decision to vote back a working government, a working party, a party and a government that cares about you the people of Dominica.”

The prime minister did not give a date for the elections, only saying, “in respect to the election date, I am saying to you in Grand Fond and Dominica that you must place your eyes on me and you will get a hint at the right time about the date of the next general election, but all I will say to you tonight is that I am in the best health, I am ready, I am ready, I am ready, I am ready.”

The Prime Minster stated that the Government has demonstrated love for the people of Dominica and the young people of Dominica.

General elections are constitutionally due in 2015.

Meanwhile Skerrit has said that the record number of young people registering to vote for the next general election is favoring the DLP.

In early February Chief Election Officer, Steven LaRocque, disclosed that data shows more young people are signing up to be eligible to cast their ballot whenever the election date is called.

He said from December 1, 2013 some 600 people have registered to vote, with ‘young people’ making up the majority.

According to Skerrit this is happening because many young people are beneficiaries of the government’s policies.

“When the young people are saying that when elections are called they are voting the Dominica Labor Party, they so by choice because they are beneficiaries of the programs and the policies of the Dominica Labor Party,” Skerrit said. “That is why we’ve seen a record number of young people registering.”

The Prime Minister further dismissed what he described as claims by the opposition that the young people are registering to vote in their favor.

“I heard the Workers party saying is for them they going to vote … for them they going to vote?” he noted. “Young people are saying to us in Dominica that five more years for Skerrit, five more years for Labour and five more years for them here in Dominica.”

He added “you going to leave what you know for what you don’t know? You going to leave what you see for what you cannot see? You going to leave what you have for what you don’t have?

Time for change! 14 years is enough! Dominica is not a one party state! I do not want to live in a one party state! Change is a must!
Labour needs to be in opposition!

One other thing Skerrit have a debate! Don’t be afraid!

I say all these in Jesus name! There is Power in the name of Jesus.

sense of improvement–not that sense of deterioration because of the attitude of laziness in the majority of people? “Elizabeth Xavier).

Elizabeth, this time I’ve had it with you, I mean you can say anything you want about Dominic politics; however, when you decide to call any of our people lazy, I am not letting you off the hook lightly. You never work one day hard in Dominica you know!

All the work you ever done in Dominica in all of your born natural life was teach school at age twelve, so I (doh) know if you know what hard work is all about.

Perhaps you need to go back there and plant some green fig so that you can experience what hard work is all about, I am going to E-mail you and tell you something you will not want to hear, but wait till later!

Dominica and Dominicans are generally better of as per the IMF and world Bank and most of all the majority of Dominicans on the ground. The Dominican people agreed when they voted the DLP last general Election, by a landslide. We see it every day in our Education programs, development of our infrastructure, the housing programs, our new hotels, coffee plant, abattoir and most of all our geothermal energy program. Things are looking bright for Dominica under the Dominica Labour Party. International airport, you say? Don’t get a heart attack when the announcement is made. And, of course, the soon to be built state of the art hospital.

When this visionary leader predicts he will win the next General Elections, I see absolutely no problems with his prediction. Apart from allegations of corruption, their is no other case of dissatisfaction they can produce. Maybe the DLP might not win as many as eighteen seats, but will certainly win the next General Elections.

Look deeper beyond roads. Roads has always been done, surfaced and resurfaced….Frank Baron made noise with the British to build the Castle Bruce road….Miss Charles did a complete national road project in the 80`s island wide….the rural water project was massive in the 80`s……UWP opened two new routes, Jimmit and Pte.Savanne…, created the World Music Creole Festival…the DLP created, illegal prime minister, bin bobol, corruption, questionable passports sales, French citizen, abused the constitution, . The Skerrit led government tarnished Dominica`s names worldwide with lies and associations that ridiculed us day after day.
I agree with Trevor Fabien – please look deeper. Roads will always be built and repaired, it has been done for years now. Now tell me where are we now as far as meaningful development is concerned. Where are the bridges taking us, where are the roads taking us. Where, …? Please tell me people in 2014, where are these monuments taking us? We have to maintain it including this $27million Palace Malice burning electricity every day and night…..we have to pay for the electricity, not the Chinese…so I am with Trevor Fabien’s cry to please wake up, just like his Father,(may he RIP), says how deprived Dominica is, its in a state of decadence.
These projects have NOT created jobs and opened opportunities for we Dominicans, only the Chinese and that is what Trevor is saying to us, asking of us. We need investments, we need jobs created and this Skerrit lead government only hopes about the world as principle beggar to all governments giving Dominica a bad name. This is NOT good. Not good at all. AND GO TELL THIS CHARLIE JONG TO GET LOST…..NUISANCE……
Our leadership is weak, visionless, lack strategic direction, Knows nothing of development.
We need CHANGE…WE NEED SOUND LEADERSHIP…..WE NEED DECENT PEOPLE, WE NEED A TRUSTED GOVERNMENT AND A TRUSTED LEADER…I AM NOT SORRY TO SAY THAT WE DO NOT HAVE THIS IN SKERRIT AND THIS LABOUR GOVERNMENT.
CHANGE IS A MUST……TEAM DOMINICA IS WELCOMED

Among other things, the so called state palace uplifts the image of Roseau, which is good for tourism. The other things you talk about which you say will always be done are being done. The road to the airport which is so important, was a massive undertaking no other government saw fit to undertake. The DLP did that. Do you know we will soon be the first country to have 100% running water. Quite an achievement. Unemployment and poverty was drastically reduced under this administration. Read reports by the world bank and the IMF. If you want to know what the man on the ground feel about these claims wait till elections when the people will speak. The good governance and transparency thing uwp tried to make their campaign platform has failed miserably. Too many complaints of alleged corruption and also the ones that can be substantiated like the Thomson Fontaine transfergate fiasco. Uwp need to come clean and deal with this matter. It is not going to go away any time soon because more information keep coming to light. This might go further than we expected.

Excuse, what economic benefit does the palace brings to the country? You said the palace uplifts the town. First of all Roseau is nasty and smells! So that palace does not uplift Roseau. Second of all I prefer to see people employed than structures are being built. Many other sustainable development could be used with the money instead of constructing that building!

I would really like the Prime Minister to carry himself as a PM suppose to do. But I guess, he does not have that statesmanship in him, its rather too late. The man is behaving like a fam dayba on the platform.
I thought Savarin would have instilled some in him, but alas.
The biggest mistake he made was not to have embraced one of his community leaders who was Parl Rep. MJ was the best mentor for Skerrit, very honest politician; but instead he surrounded himself with a set of greedy and dishonest people. It is clear that was not this man’s intention…..too greedy.

It is a bit deeper than just good roads. It is all good but we do have to look deeper than that. I am grateful for the new roads and I am sure all other Dominicans are as well.

I need people to see to start thinking a bit deeper and not just look at my comments at the prima facie level.

Secondly, that government just need to go. Dominica is not a one party state. IT is time for change. Change for the better!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Trevor Fabien
    February 19, 2014

The worse thing anyone can do is to continue dismissing reality as purely a figment of their imagination.
I came home in 2012 and realised that the first thing you see after leaving Melville Hall airport is this dilapidated red bridge. WoW this bridge is still there after all these years and does not look like its going to be repaired anytime soon.

Just imagine what the first impression of someone visiting Dominica would be when they see this Bridge. Remember people, You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Once you mess it up once that’s it.

I then get to Roseau and see this huge state house being built and again thought, WoW but remember you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. So when we have a government doing things back to front how are we ever going to progress. Now the leader thinks that that he is going to have a clean sweep at the poles.(Laughable.)
Most importantly though back in 2012 UWP seemed inept but somehow they seem to have gathered momentum and are now a juggernaut who has ruffled the feathers of the PM and his clan. It doesn’t matter if you are DLP or UWP. This is very healthy political for us Dominicans. Systems and people needs to be kept in check and the Dominican people must commend themselves for challenging the authorities.

So when any party be it UWP or DLP says that they are going to have a clean sweep it is merely pie in the sky and flying pigs. ha ha.

A Clean Sweep :-D :-D :-D Very Funny but no ones laughing

Let’s continue our rap session laborites and let us take the PM advise to separate truth from friction and fact from gossip. So in employment we saw that he DID NOT CARE about us because he never created employment for us so that we could plan our future.

    1. His Mansion: When we voted him as PM 10 yrs ago, we know he did not have anything. 10 years later, he was able to build a debt free house worth over $2 million dollars. A house with 8 BR and 6 Bath rooms. On the flip side, we were not even able to build a shed let alone with pit latrine. Do you care about us Skerrit?
    2. 10 yrs ago, most of us hard our little farm, selling our bananas and ground provisions on a weekly basis. Now this is a thing of the past. WE have nothing to sell, he killed our farms and we were reduced to begging and handout? Does he really care about us?
    3. 10 yrs ago, most of our businesses were swinging in Roseau. Today, most of them are closed while Mr. Skerrit and government ministers seem to be opening secret businesses all over. Is that how you demonstrate care?

You FOOLED us once, you FOOLED us twice and you will not FOOL us a third time

“We shall return to office because you the people of Dominica will decide and make the decision to vote back a working government, a working party, a party and a government that cares about you the people of Dominica.”

Let’s talk Laborites. Let us take the PM’s advise and separate truth from friction and gossip from actuality. The question is, Does Mr. Skerrit really care about us? Care is NOT just in word but in action. Let’s see: We the people of Dominica voted Skerrit for two consecutive terms as PM. Since we voted him and I included because I voted him as well until my last visit to Dominica in 2010 when I stayed here for 5 weeks during the illness and death of my dad and that’s when I had to ask myself some real honest questions.
During his 10 years as PM, no doubt we see him building Windsor park. But the question is, how many DOMINICANS were employed? Or better yet, what percentage of Chinese were employed? It’s fair to say 99.9% of them. Who pays the loan? Us.
2.He widened and resurfaced the Roseau / Portsmouth road, although I am disappointed because we were promised a 3 lane highway. Nevertheless, he built it. How many Dominicans were employed? Then what percentage of Chinese were employed? At list 97% Who pays the loan? Us.
3.The $27 Million dollar State House. Because you care for us, how many Dominicans are employed? What percentage of Chinese are? 98%. Who pays the loan to China with interest? Us! The facts speak for themselves mr. Skerrit

    • me
      February 20, 2014

      The facts are:
      1. Our economy has grown
      2. Poverty have been reduced
      3. Standard of living improved
      4. Dominica is rated higher in the eastern Caribbean than it ever was.

For source of information check the IMF and world bank. sometimes you give up something to gain something else. Agriculture go down, tourism go up. Either way we are doing something right. We have big things in the pipeline like our geothermal energy, our abattoir and our coffee plant.

Why is UWP being so unrealistic?
Are they just setting the stage for another 5 years of post election political campaigning?
Even if UWP is correct and a couple of the DLP seats were won because of overseas Dominican voters, what analysis gives the DLP less than 11 seats in the next election ?
    For example:
Maybe Dr Fontaine would be a more effective rep than Mr Stephenson for the Grand Fond/ Morne Jaune constituency, However the fact that Linton, Matt and others are willing him to beat the incumbent, has little bearing on the election day results.

I like to analyze speeches so I could have a clear understanding of what is coming from the heart of the speaker. I did just that with Skerrit’s speech and here is what I got:

The man is confused, afraid, desperate and maybe sick up there. Take for example the first paragraph where he predicted landslide victory. As we get into the second paragraph, he said he is not prepared to lose one seat to the UWP. By the way he has all but lost Grand fond already to the good doctor he is trying to set gallows for. By the time we go deeper into the second paragraph, we could see and feel the drop in his tone as the reality begins to hit him. Hear him now: “We shall return to office.” So from landslide to just a mere return to office. Big drop in tone and confidence. Then he tells us why he thinks he might win “Because you the people of Dominica will decide and make the decision…” Now he is basing his hopeful wishes on… “A working party, a party and a government that cares about you the people of Dominica.” He killed himself right there. How could you care for the people when in 14 yrs you killed their agriculture, their sports, their pay check and their jobs? How can you say you care for the people when you built Windsorpark and did not employ them while you employed Chinese? You surfaced the Roseau / possie road and did not employ the people you care for? You built a $27 million palace and did not employ them? Your actions demonstrated who you care about because you created jobs for them and not for us.

This speech prooves that Skerrit has been surrounded, cornered, defeated, and all he remains to do is to concede. If he is confident of winning then why not call the election Skerro? Don’t you understand that the longer you stay before calling it the more difficult it becomes for you? I remember after the citizenship court battle you prepared your supporters for an election. If you had called it at that time, I have no doubt that you would have won. But the moment you allowed UWP to make Lenox the leader of the party, you have been in trouble and everyday thing getting worse for you. You intended to replace five candidates for the upcoming election; but you cannot even get one good replacement while UWP is getting loaded with brilliant new candidates. That’s a sure sign of defeat for you.

    • Channel 1
      February 18, 2014

@Help us Lord – Concerning those five candidates Roosevelt wanted to replace, it is alleged that dem fellas tell Skerrit that he had better not replace them or else………..

Skerrit is even losing control of the Labour party. Just observe what is going on. He want to replace the one from Cottage, Portsmouth, Laplaine and the Carib Territory……(and maybe some others we ain’t know about as yet).

In the case of the Territory, dem apparently cannot find somebody else so they go back to Graneau. In the case of Cottage, Portsmouth and maybe Laplaine, dem fellas tell Roosevelt no way he gonna replace dem. So dem fellas calling the shots now.

Roosevelt, your reign as Prime Minister AND as leader of the Dominica Labour Party is drawing closer to the end. Bye bye….

They can begin doing work in their communities or with social groups. Lend themselves as mentors or work with the disabled. Develop and implement programs that will impact the youth or the environment. WORK WITH THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT to get initiatives rolling…there is so much to do here. These so called leaders need to do more than talk. Make their presence felt in the communities not just on radio. IF this was done from day one half their battle would have already been won. But their ammunition is with their tongue. that is why i cannot definitively stand up and say yes i want uwp. because i know nothing about the work they will do. The talk about grand schemes and projects etc. But who isnt? who doesnt have ideas to make money and development? yet i see nothing from them. Now look at those who actually put their ideas into motion and start the ball rolling. Politicians, not just those in power should strive to work and give themselves to the people. Serve! before you are elected…so that we can be confident and sure about electing you. Lennox doh even have a damn job for years apart from running his mouth on the radio. What should i expect from him? what social work has he engaged himself in wholeheartedly? what has he done for his community – the one he is from and the one he lives in? nothing to my opinion.

    I know where I am voting I know x 2

while Novice L is travelling and running away and campaigning outside of the political ring and comes now and again to Lagoon to see the extent of his support growth my mind is already made up to put Skerrit and DLP back in office again.

One cold drink follows with my other song:

Boss tell us why u do dat, take Das money and open in ur name, you just like MA Domnik grandchildren and making mistakes wosh; and making mistakes wosh.

“The prime minister did not give a date for the elections, only saying, “in respect to the election date, I am saying to you in Grand Fond and Dominica that you must place your eyes on me and you will get a hint at the right time about the date of the next general election…”

So the one who takes credit for being Jesus, now is calling on Dominicans to keep their eyes on him.
Other similar quoates: “I have a biblical responsibility to help the poor.” “Why should I tell people to go and pray to God for help when I can help them?” ” God is good all the time.” But in the same breath, “It’s not your damb business… Go to hell, go to hell, go to hell…” However, the real Jesus came to save us from hell while this so called man made jesus sends people two hell.

That jesus had some oil in Venezuela but when Chavez died the oil died too. That jesus is the one that giving chairperson of penville $100,000 as if it is money his father left for him. You remember Satan told the real Jesus that the kingdom was delivered to him and he would give it to him if only He would bow down and worship Him? @Help us Lord February 18, 2014

Peter had just declared that “Jesus was the Christ–the Son of the Living God”–and Jesus had commended him for the strength of his faith, by which he spoken those words. He told Peter upon this Rock (Faith like that of Peter) I will build My Church.

However, right after that; when Jesus told them that He would “die and be resurrected after 3 days and 3 nights, 72 hours–the message tells us that: “Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; that this shall not happen to You!”

But Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.” Matthew 16: 22-23

Did Jesus speak to the Peter himself? definitely not! Jesus rebuked the devil who tried to play with Peter’s causing him not to believe what Jesus had said about Himself.

“Go to hell” from the PM, who was provoked into anger is no difference from “Get behind me Satan” from Jesus to Peter, who would not believe His words.

Those “exclamation” are both rebuking the mind of a person which is plagued with the ways of the devil against another person–the person who is being “antagonized” has the right to defend his sanity–don’t your think so?

If someone asks for help and you are able to help them, should you send them home to pray or would you render that help? Perhaps you are the answer to the prayer they prayed a few minutes ago … so what is wrong with that?

If Dumbinicans become Dominicans again they will realize why Skerrit want to win all seats….It will be to simply not have democracy in this country and impose his already dictatorship rules on us. Wake up Dominicans., what do you see? Road improvement are things every Government has to do regardless…What sustainable Job creation has the DLP created? Please i really need to know that and please don’t tell me jobs that are temporary or have a timeline for completion.Wake up…i was very quiet before but now i must speak

    • Gary
      February 18, 2014

I would like you to list some of the dictatorial rules we have been under since The DLP took office. The DLP won the last election 18-3 didn’t they have a majority in the Parliament, so why would you think that they need to wait another 5 years to get all 21 seats to start a dictatorial regime when they could have done so since they won the last election with a majority. You tell me a Country ruled by a dictator and he allows his opposition to take him to Court for violating the constitution. You tell me a country ruled by a dictator who allows his opposition to have free access to a Radio station and say what ever they want against the Government.I wonder who is the t “Dumbinicans” you are referring to.

Are you telling me the Government of Dominica never created sustainable jobs for Dominicans since being in office.I do not know how to categorized such belief as someone being ignorant or Political bias.Your quote “please don’t tell me jobs that are temporary or have a timeline for completion.” Have you not seem how the world economy has changed do you think businesses operate on the same principle 30 yrs ago.Yes,I understand when you said that you were very quiet and now you have to speak up but when you speak up do to not just say what you want without thinking even though you have your political beliefs.

      • February 18, 2014

That is the reason I will continue to believe our people of Dominica do not have a mind production of their own.

They do not know anything about what is going on around them; the are simply copying or repeating what someone else or a group of people are saying and doing–the result is till “nonentity”; especially that so many of us are living outside of Dominica–with no intentions of returning home; but they are the one crying down our Dominica. And so our homeland remains at it same level of development for years and years.

Where in the world, for example, can a “people” solely depend on its Government for job creation? Nowhere! But that is what I am reading from the minds of Dominicans, who are lead to believe that job production must solely come from the Government.

They are complaining about investors who come to Dominica to invest their money; they are complaining against people who come to work the land for food production–while they are putting pressure on the mind of the government to create jobs. If every job is a job for the government where would revenue come from?

We have 3 of the major banks of Canada in Dominica, plus our own banks–doesn’t anybody think investment through those banks? We are not supposed to be a people working for the Government–the Government must be working for us–the obligation is to guide us in our plan for investment and development.

All of those who are talking: Change must come blah! blah! blah! This change that is needed is not about changing seats of human beings. They will see no change even if God Himself would be the “Primary Leader” of our country–in the physical–because change must take place in the minds of the people, first and foremost, before there will be any physical manifestation of change.

The mind condition, which is productive and fruitful, will know that it cannot just sit around talking things down, but that mind will want to see improvement in its surrounding.

The desire to improve ones surrounding will provoke the desire to improve the whole land–imagine that we have even a very fair percentage of minds with the sense of improvement–not that sense of deterioration because of the attitude of laziness in the majority of people?

Politician or not–that mind will not just wait on the Government to do things for the better–ness of its country; they are just a few men and women, and they definitely need the co-operation of the majority of the people.

Dominica is hundreds of years older than Canada, where I now live–but Canada is now one of the richest countries in the world–because her people did not wait on the Government to do the developing works for their country–they were and is still is hard working people–even if they now need the help of immigrants.

I thank God for the attitude of the people of Canada–I was employed with a business in Toronto for 30 years, this is because Canadians invested their money, which provided jobs and at the same time they made their profits–not waiting on the government jobs to cause them to become rich–that is not possible.

But please understand that with or without Thompson (although you all cannot stop Tomo) DLP CANNOT win Grandfond. Not only that, but if Skerrit and the DLP continue to try to damage the character of a well loved son of the soil, the DLP would run the risk of not even getting 10% of the votes there. So don’t think you all could destroy the reputation of a well loved son of the soil and think DLP stands a chance there. Grand Fond people are very intelligent and if you doubt that ask Curtis M.

In the last ten years this is the first time I have not heard the following cry, “if not Skerrit then who.” Since September, Skeritt and the Labor Party have not been able to find a solution to curb Mr. Lennox Linton’s popularity. I suspect, in time to come, Skeritt is going to ask Mr. Linton to present his medical report to Dominicans. No one has questioned Skerrit about his health, therefore why would he mention his fitness. It is crap and no advancement and we will rather move on to change for the possibility of somthing better. This is the philosophy that keep black man in chains and our pm is using it to keep us in chains. Only i can make you better no one else. Gary your government had 14 years to come up with a sustainable development plan which should include employment for the youth. You coming here and tell me the dlp working based on a recently set up program that was put together in a week to calm down public sentiments on the state of youth employement. It took 14 yrs to come up with a two week idea which is for short term purposes. The funds are coming from the government and not from growth of the individual business
The supreme leader has no private experience for the ministry which he ownes and his programs are geared at touching sentiments and not the development of Dominica. I will ask you this, if you owned a bank and was looking for someone to run and skeritt came with his qualification and an economist with a phd and first class experience on economics who would you trust to run your bank and make financial decisions for growth of bank.

        To shaka zulu

Let’s not be Politically bias, which you are.Are you telling me that this DLP Government has never created any sustainable jobs for young people since coming to office. What about the jobs created for young people through the Call Center Industry, over 500 jobs created through that initiative from the PM.If you know the history regarding your country there has not been any Government in our history who created that much jobs for young people. Are you telling me that young people are not employed in the Tourism Industry having sustainable jobs,an Industry which this Government has grown since coming to office.Your criticism regarding the latest efforts of the Government is based on time frame in which it is done not seeing the overall picture of such program and the impact it is going to have.I call this type of criticism negative and Politically bias. The reason the funds are coming from the Government and not from the growth of the individual business shows that the Government is willing to invest in the future of young people. Now you tell me how this could be done without the help of Government funding. Why are you making your political partisan put blinders on you.

Another of your silly criticism. The PM is not qualified to Manage The Portfolio of Finance Minister.Have you not seen the acolytes given to the country for it’s prudent fiscal management.Where did you get that foolish idea that he owns the Ministry of Finance, you have just displayed ignorance of how your Government operates as to your quote “his programs are geared at touching sentiments and not the development of Dominica” Do you know Public sentiment is everything, with public sentiment, nothing can fail, without it nothing can succeed. As to the development of the country that speaks for it’s self to say that nothing has been done is somewhat silly.

Before I answer your question, this is what you should know about Economists.A quote from Rupert Murdoch.I’m not an economist and we all know Economists were created to make weather forecasters look good.An economist is an expert who will know tomorrow why the things he predicted yesterday didn’t happen to today.

The curious mind embraces science; the gifted and sensitive, the arts; the practical, business; the leftover becomes an economist. So why would I hire an Economist to run my bank.

        To welsh

Why are you talking such nonsense.I mentioned The National Employment Mentor-ship program which of course is geared towards employment. You ignored it because of Political convenience, it is the same way some people ignore what the Government does regardless of what is done.

The mere fact that there is a mentor-ship aspect to the employment program says a lot about the Government caring for the youths, at some point young people need to take responsibility for their actions. The Government is not a babysitter.

        @ welsa
Housing for the poor equals jobs
        Hotels being built equals jobs
care for the elderly equals jobs
coffee plant and abattoir being built equals jobs
geothermal plants being built equals jobs
        calling centers equal jobs
mew roads and infrastucture equal jobs

Note that the IMF and World Bank has said that unemployment and poverty has reduced significantly under this DLP administration.

      February 18, 2014

Gary nothing you said there says sustainability to me. We all pay taxes why not give civil servants a raise so they have more spending power then they can purchase more in these businesses in turn the business can hire. Instead government is setting up these programs to give the impression care where is the welfare department where is the youth division. It seems we are using systems that should be already in place and making it political.
This past christmas pm anounce no taxes on barrels from overseas. Makes people feel good but bad for local businesses because people get all these groceries from overseas and will not spend at home. Political gain but not in best interest of country
No other government has gained so much personal wealth. And if you agree so much in public sentiments you agree with the corruption, disrespect, dishonesty of this administration and the authoritarian behavior of your PM. You sound like him. Full of crap

      • me
        February 20, 2014

A raise is not as easy as you think. President Obama is planning to raise the minimum wage in the US and already the Republicans are claiming that over a million jobs will be lost as a result of this. It is quite a balancing act that have to be thought out carefully. Do you want to lose a number of jobs in order to give a raise to the workers?

Still, in most Democracies, any Government which gives the masses FREE house, land etc, should feel confident that the people will keep voting them in.

Here are some interesting facts you need to know. Do you know that Melville Hall Airport(5761ft) has a larger runway than the Airport in Anguilla Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport(4642ft)and it is classified as an International Airport.Do you know that Melville Hall Airport also has a longer runway than the Airport in Virgin Gorda(3100ft)DO you know there are 5 countries in the world without Airports and there is no lack of economic progress in some of these countries as you would like to think,Monaco is one such country another is Andorra.I hope this dispels some of the misconceptions you have about your Country.
