PM stresses character in leadership; described Linton as a fraud and bastard

The prime minister did not mince his words in describing Linton

Prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has made it clear that character and integrity must take center stage as Dominicans make the decision to elect a government for the next five years, while at the same time describing leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), Lennox Linton, as a fraud and bastard.

He was addressing a public meeting of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) on Thursday night, dubbed “Dominica deserves better, Lennox Linton must go.”

“The issue for me at Lagon tonight is one of character,” he told the crowd. “An aspiring leader of Dominica of the second decade of of the 21st century must have character, must have integrity, must have vision and a concept of development of his own.”

Linton is presently embroiled in a controversy in which the DLP alleges that he has plagiarized the work of his colleague from St. Lucia, Allen Chastanet.

Skerrit said the controversy is not only about plagiarism but also about character.

He noted that Linton has no character, integrity, vision or a concept of development of his own.

“Lennox Linton has none of the above,” the prime minister said. “This current leader of the Workers Party seems bent on proving generations of infinite wisdom wrong. He wants to make it through life the easy way, not learning, not working hard and not going about things the honest way, not even to sit with his colleagues and formulate a vision and plan for Dominica.”

Skerrit described the allegations of plagiarism as disgraceful.

“He took a disgraceful route of lifting ideas from the speeches of others and reading them verbatim as his own and that is the man who offers himself to you tonight as a wannabe prime minister of Dominica,” he said.

The prime minister did not mince his words when describing Linton and stated that the general election will soon be called.

“I am very upset what is happening in Dominica and the kind of fraud that has been parading in this country called Lennox Linton,” he noted. “I will give you the opportunity for you to go back to the polls very soon from tonight to tell the Workers Party and to tell Lennox Linton and to tell Edison James we do not want them to lead Dominica now or in the future.”

He told the cheering supporters that they should go home with a clear message.

“So I want you to go back and take this message home, my dear comrades and friends, because this country is too important, this is the future of Dominica is too important for us to put it in these bastards’ hands called Lennox Linton and the Workers Party,” he stated.

The prime minister told those in the crowd that they should prepare themselves for the upcoming polls.

“So I say to you prepare yourself, get ready because very soon we will go back to the polls in Dominica to choose your government to lead you for the next five years.” he said.

Ambrose, are you going to call that meeting now to take Roosevelt Skerrit to task? I supported that young man in 2005, with great hopes . Now he has become a liability to the Labour Party and a threat to your own future Ambrose. Act now. Cut him out before the cancer spreads but I guess it is already to late and the disease is terminal?

Those of us with glass doors should avoid throwing stones. When your neighbour’s house is on fire water down your own. When you go to court make sure your hands are clean. The PM used others words at the UN. what a shame ! where are the ideas ? is Ambrose George convening a meeting to discuss the fact that the PM used others words at the UN. I did not leave the DLP. The DLP left me.

“Dr” Aaron is the P.R. Officer for the Labour Party. P.R. (Public Relations) is all about managing and building the reputation of the person, body, organisation you represent.
The manifestation organised by “his excellency” on thursday evening had exactly the opposite effect. It was a disaster. I don’t know if that was by design or default but my conclusion is that Philbert Aaron is a failure, even in that position. Even that he can not handle properly. May the good Lord save the Labour Party. Get rid of Skerrit!

Plagiarism. Please enough on this same old topic. When did politics become personal? Does the PM not have a speech writer? If so they should have written him one omitting the word he used to describe Mr Linton. Mr Linton has shown himself to be stronger by not responding.

I listened to part of the PM’s speech, and it came across as something more designed for enticing a riot.

I hope DBS – the NATION’S STATION -give UWP leader air time to tell Dominicans about all the great accomplishments of the UWP in FOUR AND A HALF YEARS!!
    Just to list a few:
    Pierre Charles Secondary School
    North Eastern Comprehensive School
    Castle Bruce Secondaryn School
Funding already sourced for construction of an international airport and multi-purpose stadium
Bringing water to Gallion in Soufriere …..
and the list goes on. All this was done in four and a half years.
Skeritt’s Labour party is in power for almost FIFTEEN YEARS
and all they’ve accomplished is giving jobs to Chinese and giving people concrete to eat.
Skeritt you too bold-faced. You’re running scared.
Lennox is an articulate, dignified and honest young man.
All the way with Lennox Linton and UWP -Team Dominica.
We will listen to and follow Lennox, NOT Hartley Henry. Why is he not advising the Pime Minister of Barbados? Ask yourself the question.

Dominicans, you must stop cheering/clapping when Skeritt and other ministers try to bring people down. Remember, we are all Dominicans. Don’t encourage base behaviour.
    Shame on you.

I am certainly speechless at the words uttered by the Prime Minister. He has certainly sunk to a new low with the use of words like bastards.
Those who are in the PM’s inner circle should certainly have an honest conversation with him – he needs some tough love, with honesty and sincerity. Although the country is in campaign mode, he is still the Prime Minister of the country, and should exercise a certain degree of decorum. He is the one setting the stage for the type of campaigning that needs to happen. He needs to take the campaign to a higher level, not drag it down to the gutter.
I am truly disappointed in this childhood outburst by the beloved Prime Minister, and if I were one of his advisers, I would recommend a public apology.

  30. September 13, 2014

Hello and good morning my people. Well I am coming home for the fest and Independence but I have never voted and have no intention of voting in Dominica because I don’t have to live with the consequences. We need a one on one debate between the Prime Minister and Mr Linton so both leaders can put forward their party platform so our citizens who reside in Dominica can compare and make their decision. We are building our retirement home and I want to know that my investment will be safe and secured regardless of which Political Party is in power. We are all Dominicans and we must learn to respect each other political views even if we don’t agree with that person position. We are a Democratic country and Demacracy is trouble some because everyone views are tolerated.

Referee! For a moment I thought you were me and I was you. You expressed sentiments was about to comment on this midmorning when I had read this guy’s disgraceful contribution to the low D/can politics.
First, I am D/can by birth/blood your choice readers. Am no Denizen nor Economic citizen of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Let me get this out of the way before delving into material. If anyone disapproves of LL more than I do, then I can end here. I have had my experiences with this guy and he is a sample as we say in local parlance. Stanford stated, the impact of LL’s on the political landscape of Dominica.
This is amusing to the max knowing all the facts. Let’s be honest here. Every being on this planet has his /her/shim talents some may venture as far as saying God given. I have no problem with that it could be Marx or Lenin given as well. When it comes to the fundamentals of language, syntax, intonation, etc., etc. very few can hold a candle up to this guy. After all he is the son of two educators of my time as they both taught me at the primary school level. I expected no less of him or any of his siblings however contrary to expectation some were not as fortunate. (They know selves loll!)The guy is good in that regard when it comes to other aspects it a whole new kettle of fish.
He has been and continues to be attacked by, even people who tried to fool god (recall Bagdad Bob?) This Portsmouth Bob amongst many/others ej the one with the audacity to comment The Roseau South guy who has let down even his family in what he morphed into. He was Fired twice don’t we know that well he should not throw stones. Funny I listened to Kairi FM to hear Gobbles but was absent. I will certainly be listening out for him on the Animal show.
His failure to complete high school due to juvenile indiscretions. Did not define who he has become.
There those who got scholarships to Southern Universities in the USA and have only made fools of themselves. They lack the aforementioned qualities which seem as reflex acts to LL. (Sounds like am defending my old buddy loll!). Medard mention honesty so here is some of it.
Prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has no place uttering these choice words ,character and integrity, while at the same time describing leader of the United Workers Party (UWP), Lennox Linton, as a fraud and bastard.Remember that ad on TV on Ocean spray Juices where the old man talks of no sugar in their juice? Then the young guy pours sugar in the juice? Medard poured corruption in DA’s political juice. In another ad with the same guys .The old man said their juice is as old as history. The young guy adds you should know!!! Loll! Skerrit should know about corruption.
Referee, he believes what he is saying. There is a saying, those the Gods want to destroy, he first make them mad. minister Medard is delusional the issues relating to the import of garbage bins, his association with an attorney at the center on an attempted murder of a magistrate, his 2 million dollar house in the context of his salary, his alleged ownership of the Villas covered up by the laundry Mart guy who caught millions of crabs to pay for it.
Dominica, some think need prayers, some think the minister’s & opposition alike need to go take a bath in a male current up river. I say this election ought to be boycotted and an interim gov’t comprising of a few good men & women( we still have a few despite the evil we have been surround with for the last 30 yrs. Ej must be made of these Charlatans and quacks by imprisonment.

Dear mr. Skerrit. The headline on News.DM of 16 July last year ran: P.M. Skerrit not bothered by Lennox Linton leading UWP”.
You went on to say you were in no way threatened if mr. Linton became the leader of the UWP. But last night you devoted an entire rally of your party to that same mr. Linton, denouncing him in a frenzy that totally contradicts the opinion you gave only just over a year ago. Did you perhaps underestimate mr. Linton’s impact? When a ship has sunk and captain is in trouble most times he will look to bring down his challenger too. That’s exactly what Skerrit and the DLP are trying to do. In 2008, when Hillary Clinton realized she was sinking didn’t she use that same technique against her opponent, Barrach Obama? Didn’t her campaign accuse Obama of plagiarism for a speech Obama gave in Milwaukee and its similarities to a speech by Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick. Here is Obama’s speech: “Don’t tell me words don’t matter! ‘I have a dream.’ Just words. ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’ Just words. ‘We have nothing to fear but fear itself.’ Just words, just speeches,” Obama said in his speech. Patrick used many of the same phrases in his speech. But here is how Patrick responded: “Patrick said in a statement he and Obama are friends, and said the allegations were just attacks by Clinton.” Patrick announced his endorsement Obama in October 2007. That’s exactly what Allen Chastanet of St. Lucia responded. Take that Skerrit! Obama is now the president of the USA and Lennox will soon be the next PM. The only difference is Hillary was able to swallow her pride and serve Obama for 5 years while Roosevelt Skerrit will be locked in jail for 50 years for crimes against the country

Let’s get down to the root of the problem. Why are there so many poorly educated people commenting on here. People, have your grammar and English in check before posting a comment. Also have your facts right.

A “bastard” is not a fatherless child; a bastard is a child born out of wedlock. It can also be used to describe a person who disgusts you.

If the Prime Minister is disgusted by Mr. Linton then his use of this word is quite appropriate and in context. The United Workers Party has been bashing Mr. Skerrit, for the past ten years. Now, it’s time to return a favour. That’s politics.

    • Papa Dom
      September 12, 2014

What exactly do you mean “bashing Mr Skerritt” has any of the the information revealed about “Mr” skerritt been proven to be untrue? Do you really believe the skerritt didn’t know the the values stated for his properties were false? Do you honestly believe that all the information relative to the villas are cut n’ paste? Do you genuinely, as a God fearing individual, believe that skerritt didn’t have a French passport which he obtained as a minister of government and travelled on the said passport? Search your soul my friend and tell us who either definition of the word ‘BASTARD” fits best.

It was not my intention to comment, but Roosevelt Skerrit suffers from a serious inferiority complex and other personality disorders.
I listened to him last night and it took him great pain to mention that he was raised by his grandmother and aunt. This is something that he really would like to erase from his life, thus his propensity for calling people bastards.
The poor bloke does not even realize that he is a bastard in the literal meaning of the word.
I also listened to Skerrit’s reference to Chastenet and I shook my head.
Why does Skerrit have so much anger? Without an iota of political experience he exploded on the political scene in Dominica through a series of unfortunate and questionable events, which includes the death of Roosie Douglas and the suspicious death of Piere Charles.
Skerrit was an under performing minister of education, who attained this post through rebellion and disrespect. Then he becomes Prime Minister under a cloud of suspicion and betrayal.
Skerrit is one million times richer now than when he took office, he is the only Prime Minister in Dominican history who was able to become a millionaire in office, so why the anger?
Skerrit needs help, and before the campaign ends he will burst some veins.

  97. Referee
    September 12, 2014

Did I read this correctly? Did the prime minister talk about character and integrity in politics? It’s like Madona , the sex symbol, talking to young girls about the merits of virginity and abstention from sex. Or an alcoholic conducting a seminar to the youth on the wisdom of sobriety.

Now this is taking political dialogue to a new ridiculous level. And the worst part is I am not sure whether the prime minister wants to be taken seriously or that he is merely delusional. In any case there are reasons to be very concerned.
First, assuming the prime minister is not delusional, and he really believes what he is saying, one is left to consider his motives. Is he trivializing the many instances in which he has been found wanting on issues of integrity, and honesty? I mean the issues relating to the import of garbage bins, his association with an attorney at the center on an attempted murder of a magistrate, his 2 million dollar house in the context of his salary, his alledged ownership of real estate etc. etc. If the leader of a country who has been under an ethical cloud for so long on so many consequential issues, would attempt to make light of them by pointing the accusatory finger to others, we have to wonder whether we are dealing with a leader who is in control of his faculties or whether we are dealing with someone who is not just ill informed, but a pathological manipulator who is incapable to differentiating between fiction and reality.

I do not wish to sound alarmist but based solely on the prime minister’s irrational outburst in Lagon list night, every sober citizens in this country should begin to wonder about the fitness of Mr. Skerrit to seek another term. A fair and accurate assessment of Mr. Skerrit is that he is a man who is at the end of his rope; he is finished and he is running on empty and it would indeed be suicidal for the population to continue trust his leadership.

In conclusion I declare that this country of ours is in deep trouble and has the potential of slipping into anarchy. And in moments like this, not unlike America in 1974 when a group of Republican lawmen approached then president Nixon who was undergoing impeachment, to resign and save the country the trauma of an extended constitutional crisis.
If there is an ounce of patriotism left in Mr. Skerrit , he should offer to step aside, or his cabinet colleagues should do what is necessary.
I honestly believe the prime minister has gone off the deep end and it is difficult to see him coming back. The country deserves better..

One last thing. I trust the wisdom of the Dominican people to come to the right conclusion from the tragic performance of the DLP in Lagon last night. The evidence suggests that this is a party in desperation and men who are acting in desperation are capable of literally doing anything.
Commonsense suggests that men who are acting from desperation cannot be rational and it would be even more irrational to continue to trust them.

His dislike for Mr. Linton should not reach the stage when Mr. Linton is called a bastard, a human tick. Parry should also tell the Prime Minister, in order to be a great statesman and maintain the praises of being one of the wisest politicians in Dominica, he cannot be dehumanizing his people.

I guess you were not around, or your ears were blocked with cotton balls all those years when Linton muddied the PM’s name, in his veiled attempt at playing objective critic. Now the shoe is on the other foot and you bawling.

I don’t condone public vilification of that kind in public, but I also know that karma is a b>>>>. If you don’t like the hear, get out of the kitchen. That’s politics!

it was a sad night for the image of Dominica. If ever I thought Roosevelt Skerrit would lose the plot he definitely did so last night. There was no dignity in this performance, something we would all expect from a leader whether we agree with his political view or not.
But I think the problem with mr. Skerrit goes deeper than that. It is a psychological one, which stops him from accepting that someone else may actually be preferred above him. He literally can not comprehend that. Angelo Allen has already alluded that our P.M. may be suffering from NPD, which I’m now convinced he does. There is something called the “Messiah Complex”, which is a manifestation of this personality disorder.
I hope the P.M. will receive the treatment he needs but in the mean time the country continues to suffer from his delusional behaviour.

      Indirect Quotations

Indirect quotations are not exact wordings but rather rephrasings or summaries of another person’s words. In this case, it is not necessary to use quotation marks. However, indirect quotations still require proper citations, and you will be commiting plagiarism if you fail to do so.
Mr. Johnson, a local farmer, reported last night that he saw an alien spaceship on his own property.

Many writers struggle with when to use direct quotations versus indirect quotations. Use the following tips to guide you in your choice.

Use direct quotations when the source material uses language that is particularly striking or notable. Do not rob such language of its power by altering it.
Martin Luther King Jr. believed that the end of slavery was important and of great hope to millions of slaves done horribly wrong.

The above should never stand in for:
Martin Luther King Jr. said of the Emancipation Proclamation, “This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice.”

Use an indirect quotation (or paraphrase) when you merely need to summarize key incidents or details of the text.

Use direct quotations when the author you are quoting has coined a term unique to her or his research and relevant within your own paper.

When to use direct quotes versus indirect quotes is ultimately a choice you’ll learn a feeling for with experience. However, always try to have a sense for why you’ve chosen your quote. In other words, never put quotes in your paper simply because your teacher says, “You must use quotes.”

i am sitting and am listening to thus meeting from the dlp and i cant believe that pm can have a meeting and the meeting is based on one (1) man? the prime minister does not tell the peopld how does he intend to combat poverty. lack of employment for the youth on the island. he does not talk about making beter the life of people on the island but instead the pm and the other members spend more than 2 hours blassing a man they say that has no education, no integrity, no moral value ? i mean tgis is so unprofesional of a leader. calling people bastards live on the media?? really??? what is that? mr pm u should be an example. i personally think that people should think about this party and whether they would want to vote for a party like that. i mean its been 14 long years and dominica economy has gotten worse and cost of living is skyrocketing. if the labour party win this general election then i am sorry for dominica. dominica finish.

I fully concur with Roosevelt Skerrit that character and integrity should take center stage as Dominicans make the decision to elect a government for the next five years. The problem is, he and many in his cabinet do not have the character and integrity to enter the race.

In reference to fraud and the word “BASTARD,” I am confident the Dominican people know who’s fraudulent and who’s a bastard. Such recklessness in words, the disrespect, arrogance of Mr. Skerrit clearly depicts a man who’s desperate and ready to take whatever measures to stay in office.

I gave Mr. Reginald Austrie thumbs up for telling the faithful last night, “Once you are paid to run you cannot be a good parlrep. No doubt, he was sending that message to the parlreps who were paid by Skerrit to run in the last election.
He also told them that if Skerrit tells you something, you must believe what Skerrit tells you. Doh! That’s the way to enforce a liar’s lies.

Dominicans, you are wise and politically savvy enough to know that this Labour party has ran out of ideas and is now trying to convince you to give them five more years so you can remain in poverty and continue begging at the Red clinic. The time is near to tell these corrupt politicians that you’ve had enough. Therefore, you must vote them out. CHANGE IS A MUST.

When we’ve seen the dictatorial form of leadership Where What Mr SKERRIT says goes? YOU should be upset about what’s happening in our beautiful island nation because you are the biggest perpetrator of the illigalities plaques this country. Constitutionally the general elections should have already been called but you Mr. Chavez ooops I meant Mr. Skerrit are the obe who determines When What Where and How the constituent thinks and dare him express his displeasure for What he sees is happening in his country which is rewarded with threats. It’s time our people wake up and see What happening. Case in point ” i will give you the opportunity for you to go back to the polls very soon ” Mr Skerrit you aren’t the one giving the people the opportunity, the constitution of the Commonwealth of Dominican furnishes that right that you have nonchallantly and vehemently tried to stripe the people of by your political grandstanding.
