Political parties hold major rallies this weekend

party symbolsThe Dominica Labour Party (DLP) and the opposition United Workers Party (UWP) will be holding major rallies this weekend as campaigning for the by-election in the Soufriere Constituency gathers momentum.

The DLP will be holding a rally in Scotts Head on Sunday while the UWP’s rally will be held in Pointe Michel on Saturday.

The UWP’s “Rally in the Colour Purple,” is said to be against the abuse of children in Dominica and supporters are asked to wear purple for the event.

“Be sure to join us on Saturday for our rally in defence of the children of Dominica in the colour purple,” Leader of the UWP, Lennox Linton said while addressing a meeting held at Scottshead on Thursday night. “There is an important responsibility ahead of us.”

Meanwhile, the DLP is urging supporters to get on board with its “winning candidate” for the major rally on the Scotts Head main road.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is expected to be in attendance.

Entertainment for the DLP rally is expected to be provided by The First Serenade.

The UWP rally is expected to begin from 5:00 pm, while the DLP’s is to begin at 3:00 pm.

I cannot believe how Dominica has become.
I was in town and Point Michel on Saturday and one in every three men I greed asking me for money even before they answer back. Sometimes they call me first then ask for money.
What has this country come to.

A nation of beggars that’s all the DLP regime has to show for being in power for 15+ years. What a sad story!!!

Those in Toronto do the same. One gave me a story that he was thrown out of his house. A real liar!
There was a time I would give; no more. If everyone they ask for money gives them one dollar, at the end of the day they will have more money than those who give them.
On Saturday, as I was entering a store in a mall one asked me for money. I told him I do not have. When I entered the store I told the owner. She immediately telephoned the security. The beggar had left the vicinity. They are not allowed in these areas. They could be arrested.
The fake stories they give is something else. Once they have an address they get a monthly benefit from the government. They buy booze, illegal drugs and whatever else with it. Some of them give some of their money to prostitutes, if you know what I mean.
Today I am smarter and they will get nothing from me. There are times I pretend I do not see/hear them.   You should do likewise.

Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has presented the Soufriere/ Scotts Head/ Gallion Village Council with a cheque totalling $597,000.00 which has been ear marked for community projects.
PM Skerrit announced on social media site Facebook.com, that he presented the cheque to village council clerk Celia Tavernier this morning.
He hosted an office day at the party’s office in Soufriere where he met with almost 100 people.

$$$$$$$$$- the elections are over before the day of voting you’all.

It is a political rally. What are his plans for the constituents? We have not heard what he has done for the Marigot people since he was elected.
Linton used that logo of protecting the children to drum up voters. Protection of children commence with parents. Lennox cannot protect the children. If he wants to protect them he should have a serious talk with the parents. With no prejudice to parents, some did not nurture their children appropriately. Some are incapable of doing so; some do not know how. Some of these children live with one parent. The issue is greater than Lennox believes, using it as an election issue. Wrong!
Lennox, there is a time and place for everything. This is not the platform for this issue. Maybe you should address unemployment, There are some who genuinely cannot obtain a job There are others who are not interested in working. Take a walk around the area and meet and talk with the people to find out their interests.

This should be totally illegal for this prime mistake to be allowed to make any contributions of such nature to any institution at the time of an election! This little island under this illegal rogue government, has done everything wrong to remain in power! Then again, when one is a country of gullible people who refuses to be educated and can’t see right from wrong because of their low self esteem, anything goes!

A PM in Canada did the same thing. Few people made a fuss about it, if none at all.
You must cease calling people gullible. They have the privileged right to support their choice of Party. If you support a Party, this does not mean everyone has to support the same Party and vice versa. This is politics. The sooner that some people get this into their heads, the sooner they will appreciate each others’ choice and get along.
I have family and friends who do not support the same Party I support in Canada. We speak to each other and have relevant discussions. We do not argue. Maturity dictates that we must accept people’s choice. It does not harm me in anyway. Why should I get personal and angry about it?
If the Party they support did something wrong, I will say, “You voted for him and I did not.”
Hey! I consider myself a smart person, smarter than them who did not vote for the Party I support.   We do have fun over that.

Are you not tired of ranting making nonsensical statements, as though they facts. Why would you call a Government that is duly elected with a majority an illegal Government.Do you think an illegal Government would be welcomed by international Institutions and Countries around the world.Do you think that the head of an illegal Government would be allowed be chairman of The OECS and CARICOM.

You are entitled to your partisan political beliefs, but making silly comments and statements, ignoring facts, does not support your argument for what you believe.

Which is more important, the protection of the young children or the red sewo. Dominicans in particular the Soufriere Constituency, I hope you will make the right choice, which should be very simple. Do you care about your young children or would you prefer to jump and wine with the red politicians who have given their support to a man who was arrested and charged for inappropriately mishandling your child.

How silly are you to say that the by election in Soufriere constituency is about the protection of the young children or the red sewo.Where has this nonsense originated from. Ian Pinard is not running for office so why such foolishness. There are so many issues to be addressed in that constituency why would UWP chose to focus on the protection of children or red sewo, it only shows they have nothing to offer other than manipulating the emotions of people.

Reginald Austrie should be flogged for his despicable comments against Monelle and the children of Dominica..Some big men in positions of influence need to watch their mouths..
Purple rally is such a meaningful rally, hope Dominicans can begin to see through the thick fog of foolishness going on in local politics recently, where only to secure a political win, children’s rights are being thrown under the bus by the party in gov’t pledged to protect these very children.
They hail a man charged for the crime of indecent assault on a minor as a HERO and a REAL man..C’mon!!! Dominicans. stop letting these people throw dirt in your face..they think by now they have unbridled power to do as they please, whether they break the law or not.

  13. I buy local
    May 20, 2016

What is clear to me is, Skerrit CANNOT get good Dominicans to run for him so he now has to import candidates. In 2014, he got one from Canada and presented to Wesley but she was rejected by the people. This time he imported one from Grenada to present to the people of Soufriere? She too must be rejected by the people.

Skerrit has a foreign magistrate, foreign contractors, foreign ministers, now foreign candidate, foreign Senior counsel who now resides in Florida, foreign children, foreign advisor Hartley, foreign agents to sell passports, foreign bank accounts, foreign this and foreign that. The man is foreign man? He doesn’t like to buy local man? he does not see a future in Dominica man? I guess soon he will have a foreign police commissioner too man? I am Dominica, what about you?
