A recount of votes from the Canefield Urban Council elections has confirmed that Michael Coipel has topped the polls.
He received a total of 187 votes.
In second place is Michael Timothy with 181 votes while third place went to Jefferson McPherson with 179 votes.
The current chairman of the council, Simeon Albert, emerged fourth with 178 votes. He has held the post of chairman for the past 13 years.
The polls took place on Monday.
ok now allu can come and remove dem flyers all over the place. They already turning into litter
Does all the hooplah really matter since the government has the power to appoint anyone as chairperson?
Anyway Mr. Coipel serve your people well regardless.
Mr Coipel must understand the rules of council election he knows the minister dont appoint a chair man , it is after 3 individuals are selected by the minister , that they sit with the five elected members and vote for a chairman among them the minister have nothing to do with that , I voted coipel ,but he is uprising me ,he must remember he could not keep C A H U R together it failed, NOW HE IS TALKING ABOUT PROTEST, SIMEON DID NOT LOST AT THE POLES COIPEL GOT 187 VOTES SIMEON GOT 178 VOTES so why mr coipel u are saying canefield people rejected him and he won, can u explain, U BROUGHT POLITICS IN THE COUNCIL STOP YOUR BITTERNESS ALWAYS REMEMBER C A H U R WAS A FAILURE UNDER YOUR LEADERSHIP, I VOTED YOU MY FAMILY VOTED U BUT I REGRET I EVER DID
weh weh weh weh weh weh weh weh weh weh weh
congrats and hope u will serve ur commuinty and people well. i no u can do it. all the best waiting to hear ur plans . but i still believe u should be the chairman the votes justify that the people want u .
Congrats to mr. Coipyyyyyyyy and his team. Remember to tie your waist and to pull your socks.
Remember people that at a Council election people vote for 5 candidates not one. 187 for M C,181 M T
179 J M P and Simeon Albert 178 Copiel lead by only 9 votes so how did Simeon lost 187/178 is the same amount both of them have a 1 an 8 and a 7 so any how you turn it is Albert and the M C that tie so Albert should continue as the chairman The M C cant lead any thing he killed CAHAU he could not even organize a demonstration if is on that those greedy for power thinking they going to win election think again for not even dream the UWP can dream they are in Government.
what people that hvae spoken you winn by 8 out of more that a thousand people, i am a labourite but i still voted for michael because he is a friend and that is not national politics so if that what you are using to determine who wins next election you have a rude awakening
They DISCARD SIMEON. It was about time.
Congrats to you Coipel!
The people has spoken and their decision must be respected! If someone is not performing they must be dicarded..That is our democratic right
congrats to Coipel for topping the polls.
but wait a while. . i hope the readers know that this is all he did. top the polls!
So
congrats to the old/new council chairman, Simeon!
I’m sure Simeon now wishes that he had allowed a certain sexual molestation case to see the light of day!
we are looking at coipel and what he is going to do for canefield.i hope he do not do the same thing he critisizing simeon for
Wow simeon albert lost. Better luck next time buddy.
come on this man seat there for 13 years you can see the people that vote for him is red people not for nothing that he did after 13 years if it was me I would take a rest but you can see its free money so his holding on to free money thats what the pm is all about free all this starts from the top
But wait! You mean to tell me less than 200 people voted and that is a victory for UWP? How many persons are on the voters list in Canefield? We need to hear statistics. Local government must be separated from central government. Too much party politics.
Simeon could not convince the people to turn out and vote for him? SHAME ON YOU SIMEON!
CONGRATS TO COIPEL!
petter made a whole motorcade on a two vote margin
If I am right I think I counted 725 votes there, and I presume that there were more, so were do you see only 200
Hmmmmmmmm way papa mi more row row, coipel we going to see change, i am waiting.
There is always a recount. Be it a council or national elections. Check the laws governing such.
One vote can make a difference between winning during General Elections so why isn’t 8 votes significant enough to say the people made their choice?.
If I was in Skeritt’s place, I would take those results very seriously. A member of the executive, a persons who has been trying to convince Dominicans regularly how great the labor Government is performing and to have lost a important election just before the next General Election, must signal a serious alarm. I must caution Mr. Coipel, expect the going to be rough until the UWP gets into office. Three strikes for Mr.Lennox Linton because, we know on which political party’s ship Mr. Coipel is sailing . First, the discarding of AliX Knights, second, the massive crowd in lagoon and third, the defeat of Simeon, executive member of the DLP.
Bonjaiiiii – is change coming?
dat result is no different from the others in the canefield urban council
canefield is the capital of the blues in the mahaut constituency ok so dats expected….the DLP is not very strong in canefield…last elections blackmore got the fewest votes there…so dats no swing…my word …y is it dat some people get so carried away nuh…swing/trend my foot….lol I shivering…….
@Fool ur Selves: I believe you are the one being fooled. What has the urban council elections to do with blue and red and blackmoore? Urban council elections is not about party politics.
If it was the other way around you would be singing
a different tune.
They can’t stop the change that’s coming. Go Copiel go!
Sadly the government have perfected a system of installing losing candidates as chairperson. People better be vigilant to prevent them from hijacking…
That system started under the Freedom Party, it was used in Portsmouth Town Council Elections back then.
It was also used in the Roseau City Council when a famous Grove Lady became Mayor. Remember, it was between 1995-2000. We have selected memories, don’t we?
Who did the Freedom Party instilled as Mayor of Portmouth. Please backup your statement. Stop blaming others and examine your own actions.Freedom Party was 39 years ago yet we justify our failures on we what Freedom Party did 30 years ago .
My friend it seems like your party is emulating what is to you the bad things done by the Freedom Party what about the great thngs that was done by the Freedom Party. Thus far your party has not met a fraction of the economic prosperity that Freedom Party brought to Dominica.
After how the people stood up against the nomination of ABK as president, I don’t think Gloria Shillingford would want to test the waters by…

Is P.M. Skerritt from Canefield. DLP has nothing to do with this. The canefield residents wanted a change here it is.
They do because at the last elections Mr. Albert did not get the highest votes but was installed as the chairman by the Minister for community affairs Mrs G. Shillingford which totally went against what the people wanted. This time the people have spoken, so let’s see what the next move is in this chess game…
Sadly the government will turn around and appoint Simeon like a bridle on the people of the Urban council and Canefield, refusing to take a hint…
Congratulation to Mr Copiel and his team, indeed change is a must not an option, now let me see what Gloria going to do this time around we waiting…
