Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has described the expected appointment of talk show Host Lennox Linton as political leader of the Opposition United Workers Party (UWP) as “backward and inappropriate”.
When the UWP holds its delegates conference in Castle Bruce on Sunday, it is widely expected that Linton will be confirmed as political leader. He was nominated for that post by the Nominations Committee of the UWP on August 16.
But Skerrit, who was a guest on Kairi FM’s Heng Program on Friday, said “the pitch forking of Linton to the helm of the UWP at this time is an insult to other competent qualified and hard working well enabling members of the UWP and a sad commentary on the state of opposition politics in Dominica.”
The prime minister questioned whether Linton has what it takes to move the country forward.
“Surely, if Roosevelt Skerrit is not the solution to Dominica’s problems today as stated by the UWP, Lennox Linton most definitely cannot be the solution to the country’s problem,” he said.
Skerrit said the Dominica Labor Party, “will not anticipate anything but wait for the formal crowning of the new prince of opposition politics in Dominica and highlight the outrageous nature of this development.”
The DLP delegate’s conference is carded for September 15th at Point Michel, at which Prime Minister Skerrit said “the full take on this clearly backward and inappropriate move shall be articulated.”
He also views Lennox’s imminent appointment as an “insult to everybody,”
The UWP conference on Sunday will be held under the theme “Change is a must.”
