No reduction in public servants’ salary – PM Skerrit

Skerrit said there will be no reduction in salaries
Skerrit said there will be no reduction in salaries

Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP), prime minister Roosevelt Skerrit, is assuring public servants that their salaries will not be reduced under a DLP administration.

Rumors were rife over the weekend that salaries of public servant will be reduced following a job re-classification exercise.

But speaking at a DLP rally in Pottersville on Sunday evening, Skerrit said this is far from the truth.

“I can say here tonight, as the next minister of finance and the next prime minister of Dominica, that no public officers’ salary shall be reduced…” he said.

According to Skerrit, his government has managed the country’s finances in a “good and prudent” manner and over the years has actually increased the salaries of public servants allowing them to have more disposable income.

Additionally, he said, the DLP has increased the tax threshold and because of that, many public servants do not pay income tax.

“It is because of Labour most public officers do not pay income tax in Dominica because the Labour Party increased the tax threshold to $25,000, so any body in Dominica making about $2,000 a month do not pay any taxes in Dominica,” he said. “There are many people, when we came into office, who were making less than a $1,000 a month as full time employees and the Labour Party took a decision that nobody who is working full-time should make less than $1,000 a month…”

He noted that when the DLP came into office many public officers could not build their own homes and with assistance from Venezuela, they were able to get loans with interest rates as low as 4 percent.

“And many public officers have homes today because of the DLP,” Skerrit said. “And as minister of finance I have control over the resources, I could have said who should get loans and who should not get loans but everybody who applied got qualified, got a loan and build their homes.”

He went on to say there are many United Workers Party (UWP) supporters who have home because of the DLP.

“My view about this country and a government is we are a government of everybody,” Skerrit said. “Not over one set, it is for everybody.”

Skerrit is like as school bully master who took away childrens’ toys but reassures them he will not beat them, and for that they have to rejoice and be grateful. Only a warped mind can come up with such a stratagem.

PM said no new Taxes i remember George Bush senior said that read my lips no new Taxes and he did bring new Taxes. I do not understand why we black people have to be so backward? You look everywhere there are black people, and there are so many poor black folks and they are being taken for a ride by promises one PM after another. Who can we trust? What has he Skerrit done for the poor folks in Dominica? They were poor when Skerrit first came in office 15 years ago and they are still poor today 15 years later. What is the difference between yesterday and today? Skerrit is a Millionaire and he was not a millionaire when he first came in office. The roads are still not kosha in most places.Dominica needs a change from 15 years with someone who did nothing but for himself. Dominicans are tired of suffering. The Island is so small. Everyone should be working because of the amount of the population. It is too small to have that much of unemployment.

The writing is on the wall that is if you can read between the lines. Come the 8th of Nov.2014 we will see a 10-11 seat outcome of the election results. Sorry I can will not reveal who got 11 but I can tell you that politics will never be the same again in Dominica as with this 10-11 outcome the true colours of our politicians will be revealed. In other words who you thought was red is really blue and vice versa.

roosevelt no reduction in salary? well thats comforting. comforting that there will be no increase in our salary? that i cant afford to pay all my bills without going to western union? ahem

roosevelt, you and your ministers need to recieve 1400 dollars a month after getting a degree and working everyday., all day. then going home at nights to prepare lessons for many hours, correct papers. wake up the next morning with dark puffy eyes to do the same over again. let me see how it will pay your bills. and please note, you will not be able to touch the millions that you stole from the government.

roosevelt, the public servants are not going to vote for you because we cant survive on our salary. you know how many votes that is? in every village?

roosevelt, would you like your wife to live with the salary we recieve and the conditions we work in?

god is watching you roosevelt. and god sees how much we suffer

and if you know whats best for you, take your stand as prime minister and stop your communist ways, why the hell should you be minister of finance and whatever else you are?

Does anyone else find it strange that the PM is also the minister of finance?
That is one position within the govt which needs complete transparency and someone beside the PM (whoever is elected) should be in charge.

You do not ever keep tp promises and cannot be trusted. Where is the monies that you took from piblic servants and promised to give back? Yet you find it fit to employ the foreigners Charles Jung and Hartley Henry; paying them endless monies. All we are seeing is insults added to injuries. You and your poppet master and your chronies have a lot to answer for. Say hello to Beris Hamond and Destra. They have got a good share of the PIE.

You people can dislike how all you want..No Human Being can stop a Leader like our PM..Head Strong and a the Will of Samson.Put more dislikes but the LABOURYOUTH will keeping pushing for the best to lead us. I don’t Know the other guy personally and I chose not to judge the guy.

However; I can remember the first time I heard the PM gave a speech and so much Dominican Pride was in that voice. Over the years I have to say we as a people have not stood by our leader. We could have done a much better job than allegations and accusations of evil. Turning and twisting everything this man say to suit our live style or our political bias. He stole so much money I surprise it still have more in ECCB for banks.

When are we going rise-up and support our leader, “give the young man a chance” now the young man has become a Great Leader and all we see is tales of 666 and allegations of 73millions in Cayman island.
What next? Our PM have a Space Ship, he was acting in Space Jam. Now he say don’t take a bath, smH.
People I am disappointed in Dominica, I have heard alot of stuff as a member of @LabourYout I take that as a personal disrespect to my Leader and Catholic faith.

UWP and Team Dominica stop spreading this kinds of filth to the public. When Lennox Linton speaking he sounds educated enough. However; to have supporters that thinking so silly and entertaining it, speaks for itself. Lennox Linton you are not half the man Skerrit is and will never be, your calling was to be a Journalist and even that was bought with confrontation from Foreign Leaders. You were deported I read the article and all your quotes. You said you called our Leader and he tried his best to help you a fellow Dominican. That same man you calling names, and all his plans you want to steal and “re-vamp” under another name.

You have alot of ideas but none can be translated into self sufficient systems. Sir, with all due respect you are not good for this job. Your team is not strong, they are educated I will give them that.
How creative are this guys? they have yet to provide details to that public. is just “I WILL ‘I CAN” “I GOING TO” at what pint is this Pathetic. You want to come in power on another man work..what does that say about you? UWP leave Dominica in the hands of people that are following a vision for Dominica Please and not a plan they think that will work. This vison started in 2000 and the Travay continues dough interrupt that when you know the truth. Skeritt IS THE BEST MAN FOR THIS JOB RIGHT NOW..if you arguing that leave your comments for next election..

Well sir, you sound like you are a well educated man i may say. And it also sounds like Skerrit has landed you a big promise or has given you a good job. He Skerrit has been in office for way too long, someone else needs a chance this is not Cuba. You do not enter into office and stay there till God knows when. For eternity. No. Its time to go pal. Its time to go. Bye Bye Skerrit.Bye Bye.

Sir I read not all of your comment but i went back and read all of it and it is pissing me more off. What does your stupid Catholic faith has to do with politics? What does it has to do with people suffering? In the begining, people thought that Skerrit was the person who would help change the Country, but appearantly he is not. He is a greedy pig. He is all for himself. How do you like that.Their eyes were closed, now it is open. There is a seperation between church and country. You cant put church in it.Who cares.

    Dear Mr.Skeritt,

You are the strongest, smartest, and most dedicated PM we have ever had after the great Dame E.Charles. Few people have the “guts” to make the tough decisions that you make on a daily basis. You have to suffer so much criticism and family embarrassment, yet you put your cap on and you constantly save this country.
Labour took over Dominica in 2000 at a time when the entire world was in a ECONOMIC depression.

Flight industry took a hit , no visitors, and every sector of world economics had to be revised in-light of this disaster. I didn’t vote you at that time because I was a skeptic since I thought a job like that cannot be given to a guy that was on the same bus with me going college. However; I was wrong you did a hell of a job sir. I am impressed with your vision, I am impressed with the logical way in which you address this problems. Any educated person could see you were taking advice from powerful men but you were your own man in making decisions.

You inherited a problem but you saved this land, you saved education, you saved the minds of young people and that is the most beautiful resource in our land. Being a college teacher you knew what was needed for education and you did a great job. I always thought the next big thing after the internet is an genius idea for alternative source of energy and you always spoken about that even in your young years.

We elect you to make tough decisions like the one you are faced with right now. You were a former teacher I know you will not purposely not want to pay teachers. We know you know the struggle of teachers. You have come a long way from “bumming” ride to go up in the college to hugging and taking Selfies (lol) with some of the world most powerful men. THESE KINDS OF CHANGE ARE THE HARDEST because they not only demand a change in dress code but it requires paradigm shift. You are an inspiration to me and most of my friend @LabourYouths and none of them can vote this election.

Keep your Faith, Stay Strong, keep on Supporting Dominicans even though you have your personal feelings about some of them, you are human. You have everything a man could want sir, beautiful wife, beautiful children, a healthy mind, and a country that loves you.

Peace and Love 2 all LabourYouts and DominicanYouts but WE GOING LABOUR..
“Call me LabouRITE or Call me LabourLeft without de Labour Party where would we really Go”. A calypso I hear in Canefield that was the hook..lol..

    December 1, 2014

SERIOUS DANGER AHEAD!!! Fellow Dominicans, we have heard the arguments, we have listened to the real issues. We have seen the motor cades, rallies, foreign artists for free and DNO has provided us with the profiles of both UWP and DLP candidates almost throughout the country. It’s now down to 8 more days to save our country or allow it to become another Iraq or Venezuella. Let’s put aside all of our politics and go through what we heard, what we saw how we feel. Furthermore, examine each of our 44 candidates constituency by constituency, and tell me if any of the DLP candidates have anything to give us hope for a better future. Based on the profiles/ biographies we saw, they have convinced me that if elected DA will be worse off in the next 5 yrs than we are today. Is that what we want for our country? Its all about Skerrit and his social programs they running on. What if Skerrit departs, God forbid like Rosie and Pierro? Who do we turn to folks? Ambrose? Timothy? Blackmoore? Sure not Austrie! You see the trouble that lies ahead if we vote the DLP back? On the flip side, UWP candidates really have me inspired by their vision for a better tomorrow for all of us. A vision that tells me that even if Lennox Linton were to depart God forbid, the vision would still continue because of the talent seen in the 21 strong team. I see true leadership in Sandford, Dr. Fontaine, Baptist, Joseph Isaac, Joshua Francis, Eunica Victor, Mr. George, Mr. Burton and others who can really step up. Can we truthfully and honestly say the same about DLP candidates. Dominicans, let’s take warning and behave ourselves you hear.

You always say what you know your people want to hear but your actions are quite different. If you are with meeting with Muslims you will tell them Jesus is not God, but when you meet with Christians you say something different. With Peter R and rest of spiritual leaders, you will tell them you are born again and spirit filled; when you meet with the bishop and priest you will tell them something different. Right now you are in trouble and your back is against the wall, Dominicans and public servants expect should expect you to promise them heaven on earth.

We know evil men by the things they stand for:

2nd Peter2:9-12, “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption.”

@ Taking notes, I do not know which god you referring to. Please take a look at these Scriptures and be clear about which god you talking about Philippians 3:17-19, because verse 19 tells us about “their bell god.”
17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
By the way, we also need to expose those Dominican pastors that were behind the gospel artist that performed on the DLP stage. Why did they leave Dominica? Are their not souls to be saved in DA? But because of greed they left and some of them played sick to leave while others stayed illegally. They were always after money and it does not surprise me that they and their followers are behind Skerrit.

James 5 King James Version (KJV)
Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.
2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.
3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.
4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.
5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. 6 Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

I don’t believe that saying “I Love God!” and using a couple thousand dollars to import a gospel singer for a concert would make God just smile and give the labour party a win. Not after they repeatedly battered member of the UWP for things which are not necessary to talk about. Loving God and Talking about him are two completely different things.

I listened to UWP event online, most all the statements untrue, to stated the dlp has done nothing for Dominica and dlp has no plan for Dominica totally untrue, by the way the uwp has overshadowed the dlp by coverage, uwp can be seen live on streaming dno, cbn4.com,other network as well and Q95 radio online, the dlp are isolated by coverage to Dominicans who lives aboard, I tried to tunein to dbcradio and Kairi fm for the pass two weeks, it shows connection error, when I tune in Q95 fm and other stations is okay, I would like to know whats the problem something is not right.

The people want a salary increase. Tell them about de increase. Civil servants should apply pressure by voting against labour…
Mr skerritt what about minimum wage? Increase the minimum wage so that Dominicans will stop slaving for those rich labour businessmen in de city..
You spoke about houses n so forth,, please come clean with that old talk.. You are acting as if its your money you gave to the civil servants…The money is dat of tax payers so stop making these honest n hard working Dominicans feel obliged to vote you…
The word on the ground is that you all run Dominica as a labour state n not a government for the people and by the people. You all are not for every Dominican, you all are consistent with a labour bias which is loud in pull stribg jobs, favours, unqualified labour supporters in high office, pick n chose system n a nasty attitude of labour supporters which is pregnant with arrogance n ignorance. As you speak of the government for everybody, it is alleged that some of your ignorant supporters are moving around looking for civil servants who doesnot support labour n threatening to fire themmm… My view is this government is for one set n not for everybody…Actions show dat…
Mr Skerrit getting mentally tired based on his inaccuracies n terminolgical inexactitudes. Rest your self comrade….
