Ron Green prepared to contest La Plaine

Ron Green

Although he has hinted that he might end his political career soon, former La Plaine MP, Ron Green, said he is willing to ‘step up to the plate’ if a bi-election is called in the La Plaine constituency.

The nation is awaiting the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court  judgement in a dual citizenship matter involving MPs of La Plaine, Petter Saint Jean and Vielle Case, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit. The United Workers Party (UWP) having taken the matter to court claiming that Saint Jean and Skerrit contested the last general elections illegally, have appealed the High Court decision which went in favour of Skerrit and St. Jean.

According to Green if the court rules in favor of the UWP, he will definitely be on the ticket to contest a bi-election in La Plaine. “I will definitely be contesting if there is a bi-election as a result of the court’s decision, which we expect soon,” Green revealed.

He said although the decision for selecting a candidate for any election rests with the party and the constituency association, the matter is a “fluid one,” and he thinks he is the best candidate to take on the challenge. “I have contested five times, 1980, 1985, 2000, 2005, and 2009. I think should there be a candidate that emerges, that is prepared to step up to the plate, certainly I will be prepared to provide 100 percent support and take it from there,” he said.

He said possibilities of the UWP winning La Plaine are bright. “It has been bright for four consecutive contests, including the last one which was claimed that we lost,” Green remarked. “I think this constituency is strongly supportive of the United Workers Party. So I believe the prospect for the future is still bright.”

When asked about talk  of ending his political career, Green said although the time is coming he cannot give an exact date. “There comes a time when the person who has been seeking political office  may step behind and allow others to step forward,” he noted. “I believe the time is coming but to tell you when it’s coming, exactly what date, is something I cannot do at this time.”

Green also said the UWP on a whole is busy preparing for the possibility of bi-elections in both the La Plaine and Vielle Case constistuencies.

    January 8, 2013

Would someone please advise this poor man to go enjoy his retirement??! He is almost 100 years old! People like he and Eddison James are holding back the UWP and the strength of the Opposition by refusing to let go! Right about now we should be hearing about a new generation of Politicians; Mr. Green should be talking about handing over and passing the torch and not remind us of how long he has been on the earth.

For what it’s worth, Mr. Green has been a hard working Parliamentarian and his efforts should not go unnoticed. But, alas, give it a rest!

What you should be considering if UWP wins that case is for the Government to pay you two the salaries from December 2009 up to this time. I hope that is what the Judges would consider and stipulate if is in your favour. A byElection may not be what is necessary, but if I know the PM, a General Election will be in sight.

Ron Green , Edison James, Lennox Linton all of them trying a kind of strategy on the nation there it not working. the ruling party is giving them enoooough time to become a good opposition but no the want to see a brother fall to his face. No!!! that is not opposition. they have to realize is one country and their brother, sister, uncle, neice, nephew paweh nenen have benefited from the Dominica LAbour PArty ok. We too ungrateful in that country. Go by Jays bookstore and ask them for the governments bill on texxt books and so. y they could not do that to Deceased Eugenia Why?!!!
there are many people who benefit and stay quiet that is why they got the shock of their life with 18 to 3 seats. aand this time we sweeping marigot. listen to matt in the morning there are about 8 faithful callers and each of them call fifteen times to repeat what each other has said. the only time he gets extra callers is when he have a nice interesting programme but other than that is everyday same shit, ok lets face the reality of it, roosevelt skerrit can never be perfect, one man is erfect is d creator, but who else has done what he is doing and willing to do for Dominica. Mr.Linton jump infront to say is Tony that leak out the IPO story but doh worry with him he know well who leak it out and who hacking for them but in Dominica we dont like to see a brother rise. Crabs in a barrel. Be like chinese u see a brother doing something help he will finish faster to have enough time so he can help u with yours in return. we too like to hold our fellow brothers on heart for nothing. A house d man have, many little people on the streets have houses bigger than the man own y no question. Me that is skerrit i building a sky scrapper , build it or not we will still talk so is just build it boy. But Ron Green if u feel you can win, give it a fair go. I wish you well. I dont hate the opposition not at all i see them as human beings too.

DNO check the dates he contested, it reads 1980, 1985, from my recollection it was 1990 and 1995.

UWP cannot attract good candidates so it will have to be you Ron in any bye-election

  26. FYI
    January 8, 2013

There were two bi-elections in july 2010, Salisbury and Marigot. Skerrit didn’t impact any of them. Infact they both won by bigger margin. On several ocassions Spags invited Skerrit to the block in Salisbury and he never came. His days are numbered.
