Ruling party marches on

catsROSEAU, Dominica, CMC – The ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP) stayed on course for a third consecutive victory after it won the Castle Bruce constituency, according to preliminary figures released here.

Chairman of the Castle Bruce Village Council, Johnson Drigo, 42, beat back a challenge from environmentalist Bernard Wiltshire of the United Workers Party (UWP) to win the seat by a 849 to 689 margin, and give the DLP a 3-1 lead in the seats so far declared.

Independent candidate Jacqueline Theodore received just seven votes.

The DLP has won the Morne Jaune/Riviere, Salybia and Castle Bruce constituencies, while the UWP has won the Salisbury seat.

A total of 62 candidates are vying to take control of the 21 seat Parliament, and the preliminary figures show that the DLP is leading in Vielle Case, Colihaut, Mahaut, Roseau Central and Portsmouth.

The Dominica Freedom Party (DFP), which is the other major party contesting the elections, is not fearing well, with its leader, Judith Pestaina, a former international public servant facing a huge defeat in the Roseau Central constituency.

i see noone was able to respond to tarcious parquette when he asked who if not the dominica labour party and why?i would like to add that the reason i voted labour is not for handouts cause i doe even kno what skerrit office looking like but when i see the amount of progress taking place throughout dominica then i had no doubt….also the uwp plans were to remove corruption and 20 unattainable pledges which only fooled marigot, salisbury,la plain(maybe) and roseau central(maybe) people.i am pround to say that i have voted the dominica labour party

We the people of DOMINICA love to say,”LETS WORK TOGETHER” but what i do not understand is that, when our LEADERS are told they are going the wrong way they intend to think we are not on their side. Where there is wrong say it is wrong, vise verser. God gave us a choice and so, who ever is in power it is us who made it happen, not God, He only allowed our choice/s to be seen one way or the other.

I am a Dominican living abroad and I would like to extend congratulations to the DLP and the people of Dominica on the election results. Obviously, the voters are satisfied with the performance of the government. Democracy should be cheerished and praised. The people have spoken. So, let it be respected. Once again, best wishes to Prime Minister Skerrit and the people of Dominica.

My friend when you say Dominicans satisfied you need to make it clear which set of Dominicans. Is it those living in Dominica or is it those who came in by the Plane load and boat loads. Those who Skerrit provided transportation for from the Seaport and Airport and dropped them to the polling stations to do his dirty work. If at all they had not arrived, the results would have been different. Anyway the reality is they came, they did what they had to do and starting today they will begin to return to their homes in the US Canada, U K and the many Caribbean islands. And guess what you and I will remain in our naiive state waiting for hand outs from them and from Skerrit so MORE POWER TO THEM AND SKERRIT. But remember EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY. Today you are happy even more you are ON TOP OF THE WORLD. but the day of reckoning is coming. I KNOW THE GOOD LORD WILL WORK OUT HIS PLAN.

Stop being a sore loser, the best thing to do is to congratulate the winner and work together for a better future for all of us, it’s hard all over the world with the economic times we are living in, but if we all work together regardless of who wins, we will keep our Country with a strong economy. Congratulations to all the winners and to the Dominica Labour Party.
